Cardinal Brick has reviewed 7078 King's Battle Chariot for us - head on through!
-
Thanks to Anthony Sava (Classic-Castle)

Oh, great. I do lots of detective work myself, and Matn goes and spoils my triumph! Seriously though, it's a really fantastic layout - with a lot of blue boards! Lots of ships always make these things spectacular. Was it done by one person, or a collaboration?

YES! Not so sure about that - both are cool

What figure represents the castle line?
SlyOwl replied to Tom Bricks's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
The Royal Knights King. He represents classic castle, before it went awry with Fright Knights and Knights Kingdom, has rare parts (the cape and plume), like many classic figures, and is aesthetically pleasing and instantly recognisable. -
Only a little bit, before I part them out. Recently I modded the Skull Mecha from Space Skulls so that the each side flipped out to reveal a flick-fire missile! From the outside it looked the same, and there was no change to the cockpit inside. I love flick-fire missiles I also reinforced and tiled various sections of the set, just to make it more playable and look better.

This MOC is by Russian member Vadim He entered the PTV Contest, but his older MOCs seem to have disappeared... This is a really nice mix of various themes, even if it is pirate/imperial-based - there are definitely castle and ninja influences in there, perhaps even Venetian. On further examination, it looks to be a modification of his Venice MOC, which explains the watery aspect. The stone tower - timbered building integration is neat. I agree about the focal-point, especially as the dual buildings extending into the water mean you can't see what's going on in the middle very well, but this adds to the ramshackle, chaotic nature of the MOC. A great MOC Regarding the poll, is should say "Poll Options: Click here to manage this topic's poll" underneath the thread title box when you're creating the thread. However, would you like people rating your MOC without your consent?...

Pirate King!!! - Temporary title after I won the Pirate Halloween Contest, whilst Phes was waiting for me to decide on a title of my choice (the prize) BBQ King - My title of choice, incorporating the King aspect of my rank - Pirate King - and my tie-breaker winning MOC King of Clever...& BBQ - Adaptation by Hinckley for using the same wheel configuration in a MOC as him (thinkalikes ) Baby Boom - I put 4 turban-halfpin-head babies in 5 consecutive MOCs Made a Giant Poo - This

To me, this is a top-of-the-range MOC. It's well built throughout, contains new techniques (e.g. door awnings), and conveys a nice atmosphere While I normally would advocate studlessness, I like the studs-up approach here And naturally those buildings are superb - and big enough; I always build mine far too small.
-
Thanks all! Normally it's just a black or grey wall, so nothing special Inside it's a bird's nest of technic beams and 1x2x5 bricks e.t.c. for support, though...

Oriental Head decals - Update at 15 july.
SlyOwl replied to Capt. Kirk's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
These are great (and hilarious)! I can just see them being used on Miyagi Sensei from the Karate Kid -
Teddy has got a topic here comparing the three main pirate ships The SES is marginally longer and wider (the jib width, not the hull width), has more weapons, more parts, more sails, more animals, more cannons (including the two brick-built carronades) and more figures. What's not to like? If you're looking for an SES, I suggest shopping around, biding your time. Here in England I spent a year or so getting the best deal on my SES, but even then it went for

Currently I use a mixture of new and old brown, but in the future I'd like to experiment with tan and dark tan, as they are perhaps more accurate. I'd also like to throw in some dark brown to my current style, to add some more variation. Cost-wise, brown is best, and widely available. I don't really like mixing brown and dark tan, or tan and dark tan, as it looks funny, in my opinion, suitable for cobbled-together ships only, maybe. I wouldn't hesitate at using the wood-printed tan tiles in conjunction with normal tan tiles, though. Well-used tiles are much less reflective than brand new ones, so getting them used off BL helps.

It's definitely useful and interesting If you're not getting so many comments, it's because you've hit the same long-running problem as Staudie did - that it gets a bit tiresome saying "Great Interview" to every thread. Sleep-wise, if you did it by PM, you could dream away for longer And actually the pace is about right for me at the moment, as I can only find time to read them every now and again. Keep it up!

Wow! Great tutorial! I've added it to the Index I think I may actually try this, but a purist version, using flex hose instead of bamboo, and the sail from the Emperor's Ship (Orient Expedition), with the thin string from various sets.

Any Idea When the Next Pirate Sets will be announced?
SlyOwl replied to Dr. Steve's topic in LEGO Pirates
It's possible that there could be a repeat of the Dwarves' Mine schedule - a special set (Imperial Ship ) is first leaked in June/July, the first sets become available by October, and are widespread by December. The rest of the line follows a little later (a month or two) behind. -
I agree with all you said, apart from the bolded bit. Many people don't have backup files on their computer, so if BS were to go down permanently, they would have lost their photos. True, it's their fault for not having backups, but BS still has a responsibility to ensure the user is notified that their "property" is inaccessible or lost. (they could have at least sent out emails to every account when it went down 2 years ago). My Pirates folder hasn't been moderated for some weeks now, whilst my Other Stuff one has. I don't know the process of moderation, but it's possible that different people do different "shifts" of moderating, and the un-moderated fiels are in a backlog somewhere. That's just speculation, though. You could try uploading one of the files again, to "bump" it in the moderation queue, if it's got lost...

Super MOC! The bike is neat, and I love the ramp/steps. Could you have made the tree normal/light green instead, to conceal the neck bracket better?

Firstly, I know next to nothing about Lego trains, not owning one, so I'm just speculating From what I can see, 12v trains are very like Scalextric in how they work - the power comes through the two metal strips between the main tracks. The strips are connected to the motor inside the train by metal brushes, and each strip is also connected to a terminal on the power source (which is a stepped-down mains current). The speed and direction can be controlled by increasing or decreasing the current. Assuming all that is correct, I'll begin. With your MOCing capabilities (and I've always assumed that you're technically minded), surely it would be possible to build a train that runs on a standard non-train motor (power function motor or otherwise)? And to connect the motor to the track, two bits of standard insulated wire, each with one end (stripped of the insulation) curled around one of the stud connections on the motor/lead (the black studs on the motor below). A brick on top of this (or maybe blutack e.t.c.) would keep the wire in place on the stud. The other end of the wire would come out the bottom of the train. The end should be splayed out, to make maximum contact with the track (wire with multiple copper strands in the middle would be best for this), like in Scalextric - And that should save you buying a motor. The voltage of the motor here could be 12v or 9v - it doesn't matter. That leads me onto the transformer. I use a simple AC-DC adapter for any Lego power I need, which can be set from 3v to 12v. A wire connected to each side of the track and to the adapter's terminals should work to provide power that is safe and variable. I'm not sure about it, but a mobile phone charger might be modifiable to act as an adapter. And thus all you need to buy is the track (and any extra switches e.t.c) Hope that helps I've got all excited about trains myself now

Community Castle Build Contest Winners!
SlyOwl replied to Sir Dillon's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Congratulations! I must say, Thrash, you're very lucky with those 2 wolf heads - they're pretty rare and expensive now (both bley and dark grey). It looks great as a headdress I was looking into getting one for the current project, but I'm skint, so a Fenris Wolf head will suffice. -
Great review I seriously considered getting this set when it came out as a Legend (I wasn't bothered about Western the first time round), but the price tag put me off, as it looked rather unsubstantial. If it had had a carriage (like in Gold City Junction), I would have got it for sure. However, the exploding wall inspired many improvised versions, without ever knowing how it was done officially, so iy helped that way.
