Thanks for the review Lucky so-and-so Not being a Townie, I'll pass on this. The modular houses really put me off; I've no problem with Cafe Corner style modularity, but when it's just a plate with some sky-lights? Come on The "glass" ground floor also makes the building look like it's floating... The bus, however, looks great, as good as it gets. Good to see Octan is still at it. I would assume that the 1x2 cheese slope is purely for the purpose of putting stickers over the top, to avoid them tearing in the middle when you take it apart In this instance, it would seem that there was originally a sticker for the dashboard, but got scrapped. My two cents

Aw, c'mon, Docter Seuss is incredibly challenging to read! Ah, so just generic flying ships? Check out the index in the Pirates forum There's some more in the Steampunk index

That's one huge army, and a neat fight scene going on! I love Epicbrick's landscape - it's perfect farmland, ready for an invading army. What we don't often see is properly deployed troops, in units, during a battle, which is a nice change. The last one looks to be by member Alexandertam He posted about the Greencoats here.

Generic minifigures vs. named minifigures
SlyOwl replied to Lord Admiral's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I prefer the semi-named characters, like Knight's Kingdom 1. Only King Leo and Cedric the Bull's names were widely publicised (in set names), but in the magazines and comics, you find out about Queen Leonara, Princess Storm, Richard the Strong, John of Mayne, Weezel and Gilbert the Bad. Of course, there are variations on these figs between the sets, so that unveils a wider range of names possible, unlike, say, Vader. -
My FRS Shakespeare had some Edge Chronicles input (along with Stardust); I haven't actually read them, but I saw some of the drawings in a friend's book)

My Magnum Opus - Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian The Old Narnian Army charges out against the wicked Telmarines outside Aslan's How! The dwarves cut through the supports of the underground tunnels, causing a sink hole, into which the Telmarines charge, to be destroyed, and the trees come to life, attacking the men of Telmar. All the while, the men of Ettinsmoor, allied to the Telmarines, operate deadly ballistas and catapults, to put pressure on Susan, the dwarf archers and the gryphons. Meanwhile, inside the How, Nikabrik the black dwarf's friends, a hag and a wer-wolf, begin their plan to restore the White Witch; Edmund is about to give that one drop of blood she needs to return, whilst Peter fights the wer-wolf, the hag casts a spell to form an ice-wall and Trumpkin disposes of Nikabrik. (find the actual precedings here - the MOC isn't movie or book accurate) N.B. - I would have landscaped the grass proplerly, not used baseplates, but I ran out of time and bricks... - Forgive the BURPs and LURPs - my collection of bley, dark grey and brown doesn't stretch far - Notable omissions include a clearly depicted Reepicheep (I would have bought a Scabbers, but couldn't be asked, and my brickbuilt versions flopped), the Bulgy Bears (no time or bricks) and Miraz (dunno why) - This thing used up every black, grey, bley, dark grey, brown and green brick I own... - It's also hollow - my sister unleashed the hamster on it, and it was 10 minutes before he emerged... For more photos, click here and change the final number, (outside of MOC 1-38, inside 39-42, figs 43-47 (centaurs here, decals 49-51), or visit the gallery. Here's the thread You'll be lucky to get one cheap nowadays ($30+ on BL), although at one point someone (Magicbricks, I think) was selling them for $2 each, so some people have multiples...

They say dogs look like their owners

Thanks for doing this If you've got them, mine tends to have brown epaulettes, or I could "borrow" CGH or Shadows' (Sorry, forgot to put that in my original post )

Those look great! I've saved them to Photobucket, and added them to the index

The A-Z of things to build has some good ideas in it. I'm often inspired to build things from the POTC films, and I know other members draw on Hornblower and Sharpe etc. for their MOCs. I get the basic idea, and develop it from there; for example, Laffite's Landing started out similar to Tia Dalma's shack from POTC2, but was mixed up with Lafitte's Landing from the POTC Disney ride.

Aye, fight and you may die. Run, and you'll live... at least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take... OUR FREEDOM! I'd be interested in a kilt - I envision it similar to the Asaji Ventress skirt, but with a tartan pattern. The shield looks too big to be the skellie/dwarf one, but doesn't have the hole in the middle of the Viking shields - more similar in size to the Brickforge round shield. Here's hoping Everything is a sign of the return of anything here on EB Get with the times!

Thanks for running this, Zorro, and congrats to Hinck and Erdy! I am! Y'know, I use less photos than most people for a MOC that size My collection is definitely smaller than some of the other staff, and at that stage I only owned the Pirate Impulse set. So limiting me will only make me stronger! Strike me down and I will grow stronger! I really liked CGH's entry, but I forgot to vote before the deadline. Whitefang's audacity to give the redcoats a blue building!

Happy Birthday! What, no comics yet?

These look great Personally I prefer Hound Knight's digital versions over the pencil ones, but I love these nonetheless. They're a bit big at the moment (the right width, but too tall), so if you resize them to about 70% (like in the automatic image resizer thing, but it doesn't do signatures), they'll do nicely

I'm a bit confused as to the rules - how does one determine the outcome of a battle? I have 10000000 troops and 10000 ships. Bit unfair, surely? You'll need some sort of mechanism to ensure that the armies are of equal size/strength, such as points allocation: Each member has 2000 points. A ship is 100 points. Each troop is 2 points. Each cavalry unit is 5 points. A cannon is 15 points. Each ship can carry 10 cannons, and up to 35 men, but needs a minimum of 5 to sail, and 3 men per cannon to fire them. So I think you need to do a bit of clarification on the rules, but it's a good concept And I'll move this to Wargames for the time being.

Very nice! I love how Lego uses the same dimensions in a whole load of places which doen't ostensibly relate to each other. (good thing these come in bley too, as there's no Imperial Greencoats yet, hey Sandy? ) I would assume that the 3-leaf plant can also be used in the same way, for fully camouflaged troops

I actually think they're getting stronger. I've recently bent a couple of the levers in trying to remove the base, whilst the old grey ones that I bought new off Bricklink recently have a looser grip... What I have noticed is that the lever itself doesn't have much grip inside the base, and flops around, and partially comes out sometimes.

Air compressor

Yup. I didn't realise it damaged the nozzles, though... -
Air compressor
SlyOwl replied to CP5670's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
If you're looking to keep the tubes on the nozzles at higher pressures, you can put one of these over the tubing on the nozzle, to tighten the connection. It works best with the older, thicker tubing, but I'm not sure if it makes a significant impact at higher pressures. I did a simple experiment by connecting a hand pump to a T-piece with tubing, with both joints secured using the wrench. Then I connected the two remaining nozzles of the T-piece to each other with a bit of tubing, but with only one of the joints with a wrench on it. 4 out of 5 times it was the wrench-free joint that burst off. -
Option C for me. I prefer the blade to be on top of the barrel for all the bayonets though, even if it isn't that realistic. Fat Tony

REVIEW: 5988 Pharaoh's Forbidden Ruins
SlyOwl replied to Alldarker's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Thanks for the review I've always admired this set, and it's one that I'd like to get my hands on at some point. 3 skeletons? Wow. Design-wise, I've always seen it as built into a cliff face, hence the rocky tan BURPs and LURPs - like this so it is excusable, to an extent. The vehicles are lovely, rather Steampunkish, even. 27 euros, you say? I'll look into getting this -
Any Lego Events around the West Midlands?
SlyOwl replied to AwesomeStar's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
Now you've grown a moustache Sugar really does do weird things... On a realistic note (), I might be able to make it, but it's pretty unlikely, given the school situation e.t.c. -
Captain Cavinano has been using bamboo, wire and paper in his MOCs for quite some time, to make the sails - check out his tutorial here. Custom sails and string are a pretty common thing on ship MOCs, although other elements in other materials are rarer; I'd like to see some!
