  1. Swamp Attack - vegetation, JarJar, Qui Gon, 2 Battle Droids and cheap! I meant to get it, but never did (Same goes for Jedi Defence 2, although that was a bit more expensive for what you got) I had the opportunity in a shop, but instead got Red Planet Protector, which was a mediocre-poor buy, but came to about the same amount. But hey, it looked cool on the box, and Star Wars was so last year in 2001!
  2. Looking good! A little change (if possible) I'd recommend would be to have the brown SNOT coming studs towards the camera, to avoid the tube holes, but that's a minor point. Regarding the treasure chest, why not just use the gold one? It solves the colour problem... I agree about the sigfig looking out of place (the face could at least be changed - he's gonna drown, after all!), but I liked the rock monster - it's weird, but a touch I enjoyed, although I don't know why... BTW, does the scared face on the right come in any sets? I'm guessing it's brassoed/erasered - ? Oh, and it does fit the base area
  3. As everyone else is saying, Adventurers and Aquazone take it for me. Whilst there Indy sets are fantastic, they're too expensive for what you get (and fleshies), so I would buy non-licensed versions, especially down the Jungle and Desert lines. And I'm more of a fan of the older sub-marine stuff, like Stingrays, over the newer Human vs Animal thing. Where was the RSPCA, anyway? Never! Fabuland + <insert that tiresome argument> catapults do not mix Seriously though, I think it would ruin the nostalgia value of them totally.

  5. Count me in! Luckily mine is pretty easy to make - Redbeard torso, crown, new skeleton head, white hands. The parrot and any hooks/peglegs are variable. Alternatively, a dark grey owl with a pirate hat on works, although that avatar only lasted for a few weeks, unlike this rather permanent one.
  6. Brickshelf clocks up the most hits, but there's no commenting function or favouriting e.t.c. With Flickr, the commenting, favouriting, pooling, seeing new stuff from your contacts e.t.c. is all very useful. However, you have a 200 image limit before you have to pay, and the navigation system is questionable. I can't see the appeal of Photobucket at all, and MOC Pages never gained any appeal to me really. I put a few MOC shots on Flickr, and then link to Brickshelf, thus getting the best of both worlds.
  7. That Landwehr hat looks great! The 2 swords look pretty similar to the standard cutlass - could they be achieved by trimming the edges down? (and some modification to the handle)
  8. These could be similar to the older DK books that came with a pouch attached to a book -
  9. Check out the new Dorling Kindersley books and Brick Master Sets - Dicuss here
  10. Welcome to the index, all. And 3 without heads!
  11. All indexed now I agree here - there really isn't anything going on. True, graphic editing has got so much better since then (after all, this is just a photo, nothing added, nothing taken away), but the figures are pretty motionless too... They would often make quite good sets on their own too (like the fort and ship)
  12. I bought the Dino Island issue when I was on holiday in Ireland. It retained some of the educational aspects of the earlier Lego World Club Magazines (there was an article on dinosaur skeletons), whilst being fun at the same time. However, it was a bit expensive, so I only ever bought the one, as there wasn't anything really special about it. I also preferred the actual Lego photos in the old World Club magazines, rather than the drawings in these.

    Steam Battle

It's the best I've got ATM But I'll be using it again pretty soon (next Sunday, maybe)

    Steam Battle

New skeleton arms for the majority An old one just about holds the cannonball on, but it damages the part a bit, as the axle hole is too small

Thanks I just got back from my local LEGO store and got a full cup of PaB. I got many of those tile pieces......now I know what I can use them for. Thanks SlyOWl. One of the best bulk investments I made (along with grey slopes and green plates) The gattling guns are done by sticking 8 bars into a barrel, and then removing the middle one. They stay in pretty well. And it's for the Free-Build Category, so I had a very long leash!
  16. The mast set-up in that Imperial picture looks pretty similar to the BB one. I can't say for certain, not owning the set, though The best way to get set ideas e.t.c. across would to be to post them in the Embassy, this thread in particular. A single email won't have much weight with TLG, and then, after all, what are the Ambassadors for? Petitions don't really work, just like sig campaigns e.t.c. 100 people saying they want a giant warship with 50 cannons and 90 imperial troops won't really convince TLG to do it, set cost and demand aside
  17. Squeaker's kid is an alternative that's smaller than the "stubby kids" - The main problem is that the use of the 1/2pin is "illegal" by TLG's standards, as it cannot click into place, so couldn't be used in a set. (Regarding the origins of the technique, both I and Micahberger used it in December 2007, but it only gained widespread publicity after Rocko did the aforementioned vig. Someone may have used it before that, though) Something like the monkeys. Except not quite like them The problem with this and the turban technique is that they only really work for old-fashioned babies, wrapped in cloth. What about baby-grows, and all things modern?
  18. That was a mess-up on our part Just create a seperate thread, and it'll be picked up for voting.
  19. Nope. 1900 should really be the latest date, approx. However, as furnishings e.t.c. were evolving all the time, the border is a bit blurry here.
  20. Hehe, you couldn't even resize pictures back then Me too! 1. Nope, you create a seperate thread for your entry, which will then be linked to when voting begins. This allows for the Creative Critics to do their stuff. 2. Yes Or you could post it as soon as you're done, get some Creative Criticism, and improve it, before posting the final thing the day before your b-day! But you can do as you wish Sure are! But Ironclads e.t.c. are just about the latest permisable period entries, as otherwise it goes down the Victorian route too much (e.g Titanic).
  21. There doesn't seem to be any point to this, so I'll close it, as it may encourage posting to increase post count Buy, Sell, Trades
  22. The bad guys try to release what is left of their Floating Rock City as the Agents of the Imperial Crown close in Gallery
  23. Really? They and the spars look pretty non-part renderings to me, although they bear greater resemblance to the new ones, it's true. This cool dude -
  24. As far as I'm concerned, the two lines a perfectly compatible. Whilst many people are looking down the route of how the new Imperials fit in with the old ones in military/army building terms, the lines work together, as far as I'm concerned. True, the older sets don't have as realistic a colour scheme, or as useful as part selection, but it's the minifigs which bring them together. No 2 pirates should be identical, in my opinion, so an improved range of faces, torsos and hats (dark green rag hat, new bicorn prints) allow for a more interesting crew. The torsos from the later classic pirates sets are more compatible, as their patterns are more modern than the very first ones, but I think that they can all be used. The new ones also have a recurring "torn" feature, which could be used (along with Ironhook's torso) to have an opposing fleet of more scruffy dudes. The colours can be used together, although there's a discrepency about the underlying colour schemes. In the classic line, it rotates around light grey, black and yellow (for sand), with another few colours for trim between sets. In the new line, there is far more bley, brown and tan, with varying trims for imperials and pirates. I would go with the new colour palette in this instance, but the trim can come from either (green ) The plastic texture doesn't bother me at all.
