Very nice mini-build. The ship and all the accessories are the right proportions. I especially like the cannon fire and water splashes! My only critique is that it appears quite busy from some angles. Maybe a larger diorama base would have helped with that, but I wouldn’t change anything, it is very well designed!

That statue helps explain the inspiration. Thanks for sharing the link! -

I must say, I was quite confused at first, however the more I read and looked at it, the more I fell in love with it! Well done matey! -

That’s a brilliant little mini ship in the background. And I like the sunset sky! May I ask how many pieces you used? I would also like to see a couple more photos. -

You solved the mystery of who Steve is by making everyone a potential Steve! I don’t have any real criticisms, however that brittle brown table is making me a bit nervous without some support in the middle -

Very good, you made some nice decisions with the limited space! 🏴☠️ -

Thank ye! I will tell her that while she continues working on another entry. It’s just the encouragement she needs! With these micro scale builds, it can be easy to go over the 200pcs limit. I tried to help her find a balance of detail and piece count. -

Always good to see your MOCs Hun! I follow you over on other socials so I knew I would see you participate over here. I like the retro fell of your build. I like all the accessories in the barrels plus the fish and cloth canopy make the hideout look like someone really loves there. My only critique is I wish the build was a bit bigger, and maybe Steve wouldn’t wear his nice clothes to go swimming, lol. -

Very fun build! I like how you fabricated your own sails and the real world environment really helps tell the story. I would just like to see some more closeups of your ship, maybe even the interior is possible. -
[ENTRY][SMALL] Steve meets Cap’n Tongs!
SevenDeadlyStreamers replied to SevenDeadlyStreamers's topic in Pirate MOCs
Thanks Captain Crit! Notes on the studs, and BrickLink Studio’s built-in rendering is limited. Some people use Blender with Mechabricks to achieve a more polished render with better lighting, but that’s a little beyond my skill set at the moment. However, you encouraged me to do a little more research and I might try my hands at it with one of these small builds! Thanks again matey! -
This entry is mostly for fun, and to let people know about the little game we play here at Classic Pirates called “Brethren of the Brick Seas” This is my sigfig from BotBS who goes by the name Cap’n Tongs. And he is serving up some delicious seafood to our friend Steve! This small diorama is built with 117pcs (not including the 2 minifigs). Cap’n Tongs is a member of the Sea Rats faction, so it’s no surprise he would be socializing with a nefarious character such as Steve!

Thank you for all the kind words, and I’m glad you looked over the build thoroughly. I could try to add more variations of green and some splashes of colour like another critic suggested. And now that you mention it, the skeleton does looks pretty stiff, even for a dead guy, lol. -

Glad you approve, and thanks again for the suggestion! Thank you, I will let Sydney know and maybe it’ll encourage her to work on another entry. The headlight bricks probably would look better the other way, and I tried to include some red but nothing looked quite right. Thanks again for the critique and comments! I will certainly keep and eye out for it on social media, thank you! -

I really enjoyed the story and all the supporting photos. Steve also looks great in his younger years. For a critique I would say try to use a bigger backdrop, I could see the Starry Night in the background (great set btw). And great job using physical bricks! -

Well done keeping it under 200pcs and I can tell you took some time to develop a good shot. Now that you mention the “lantern” light I do notice it a bit. Excellent job! -

I felt like I was cheating a little by making a couple trees and reusing them, but I wanted to fill out the jungle as much as possible. -

Very cool! I like how Steve has an anchor tattoo, it’s reminiscent of the Cutter’s main sail. Good job with the photography, may I ask if you achieved this effect with a phone camera or a dedicated camera? -

Thank you for the advice. I think you’re right, there could be some more deadly plants perhaps a large venus flytrap and some colourful flowers would look good against all the sand and greenery. I used BrickLink to create these renders. Luckily it has all of Steve’s parts within its library. I just gave him some boots and a backpack plus a machete so he could explore the jungle better! I have another small build in mind where you’ll get a closer look at Steve! -
This was a lot of fun to read, and now I can’t get the image of Steve in a grass skirt out of my head, lol I also like how Steve used the sail and kept his flags flying despite being in a tough situation. My only critique would be to try some extra lighting when photographing, it is just a little dark in places, but I applaud you for making your MOC with physical bricks!

I’m so glad you noticed all of those elements. It took quite a while to find the perfect pieces! Thank you for the compliments and criticism. My daughter wanted to include the minifigs, but I convinced her to leave them out (my fault). And the top of the ramp did feel a little lacking to me as well. I’ll give her this feedback and maybe she can try an upside-down building technique at the ramp and see what we can do about Steve! -

Thank ye, and she says thanks too! I should also mention the piece count was 156pcs and there were a few re-colours such as the sails for the Cutter. LEGO is one of our family‘s favourite hobbies to do together. Every so often we’ll get a big set to build together. I hope they look back on those memories fondly just like you did with the Trading Post! -
NEW PHOTOS BELOW Long before the Merchant Steve sailed into the Imperial Trading Post aboard the Cutter, he was a poor man down on his luck. He acquired some information regarding ruins somewhere deep in a jungle island. Rumours also spoke about hidden treasure, and that was enough for Steve to risk his life for a chance to change it for the better! The journey was treacherous with no shortage of deadly creatures, poisonous plants, and even the occasional quicksand. The ruins appeared to be long deserted. If Steve were to guess, he would say they’ve been abandoned for 500 years or more. When Steve makes his way to the interior, he notices something of interest. A golden crown sits on top of a barrel. There are jewels and gold trinkets along with a skeleton of a warrior who looks to have died defending this place. An interesting image crosses Steve’s eyes. There are two anchors hanging behind the crown. This image stays with Steve even after he returns to port with his newfound riches. Sometime later, Steve uses the valuables to purchase a vessel that he names the Cutter and adorns the main sail with that image of two anchors and a crown placed on top of a barrel. Steve will go on to be a well respected merchant, however he would still occasionally be found asking around about buried treasure and ancient ruins. I hope you enjoy my little backstory for Steve. I had a lot of fun building this MOC. [NEW PHOTOS] I used some of the creative critiques to reimagine this jungle setting. It is more pleasing to the eye, however it is just as treacherous! Please let me know what you think!
