LEGO Star Wars 2024 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
JohnTPT17 replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Minecraft head it is then! It doesn't get any flatter than that! In all honestly, I think it's probably just the Stormtrooper helmet with a little bit of gold added on. Heck, this could even be another case of "early concept art in the official set," and he could look very different to the on-screen version. -

I don't think there's quite enough evidence to get a dedicated Zelda thread yet. I mean, now that we have set photos, there's probably not much more to say about the Deku Tree until we get reviews/people get it in-hand, which won't be for another couple of months. If we ever get wind of any more Zelda, though - Let's do it! -

"The Deku Tree was the first element from The Legend of Zelda we wanted to represent using LEGO bricks." - Eiji Aonuma, Producer of the Legend of Zelda series in the press release for the set. Hopefully that means there will be upcoming additional elements from more Zelda stuff! That and it having it's own section on lego.com means there's a chance... Slim, but I'll take it for now! -
LEGO Videogame Tie-Ins - Rumors & Discussion

I find it interesting that most of the conversation about this set is now revolving around it's price. Funnily enough, it kinda reminds me of that recent viral "Star Wars Hotel" video, in a sense. Just looking at one point, there's a poll on Nintendolife about the new set, and while nearly 2/3 of the respondents have positive feelings towards the set, just as many people (62%) think that the set is overpriced. Now, I don't fullly agree with that - some people are saying that the set should cost between $90 and $120, which is ridiculous - but it does sound like the price is a major sticking point for most people. If they are able to pull a Sonic out of this and adapt it into a cheaper playset series, anchored by this big D2C, then I think it will be a lot more successful in the long term. It would definitely help with this particular branch of the fandom: Good point! Hopefully that does mean we get more things to come. Heck, even if it is just some Brickheadz, if they include the new Master Sword and Hylian Shield molds, that might be enough to keep it on my radar. -

Unless you Bricklink the minifigs/new parts - and Lego has access to all of that data since they own the site. Though I do agree with the above points - I don't want only large, expensive Zelda sets; I also want (and would prefer) smaller ones, especially now that new molds have been made for the important parts (I can only dream of reusing the OoT Link's hair/hat for a darker green Twilight Princess version...) It is worth nothing that 26% of the voters on the poll on brickset have said that they won't get the set because it's too expensive, though. So it will be interesting to see how much this set sells... -

I also noticed this little blurb on brickset: "It's worth mentioning that regardless of which version you choose to build, you will have the ability to construct both the Master Sword pedestal and Link’s House as smaller models." That does feel like a nice consolation, so no matter which build you go with, there's somewhere for the other minifigures to hang out. It really does help the set feel very premium - it's just the less interesting subject/high price that are holding me back. -

Dang... That is a nice looking set. Great looking minifigures. Tons of new molds for the Master Sword/Shield and Occarina. A bunch of new prints (I can't even see any stickers anywhere, which is a huge plus). In principle, it's almost the perfect set. But, man, that price... If this was an ultimate $300 Castle, even with 2500 parts, and maybe switched out a Link for a Ganondorf, then I would get it. But I don't really want a $300 tree. Maybe $200, maybe even $250, since it's a new license/molds/prints... But I don't care enough about the tree to spend $300 on it. So, either the subject or the price would need to change for me to be fully onboard with this project. I also shudder to think what the prices for all of the minifigs/Zelda parts will be on Bricklink... -

If Lego was really nice, they could have given us some of the shield designs in the MTS set instead of the stickers... Alas. -

I went for the Griffin Knights and Reddish Violet Spaceman. Out of the two "new" factions of knights, I like the color scheme of the Griffins better, and I think they would blend in more easily with the knights I have. The blue of the Kraken reminds me too much of Nexo Knights for comfort. My second pick would have been Crows, though - yes, it's an existing faction, but that minifigure, as great as he looks, is ridiculously expensive. I was thinking about the warm gold spaceman, but the couple of gold minifigures I've gotten have had odd streaks in the gold, so I don't know how it would look in a real minifigure. Here are the Castle emblems, if anyone is having trouble viewing them or can't see them now: -

I watched through those, and there are some good ideas in there - but I also don't see any of the Cars characters fitting in a CMF, or some of the other more non-human designs, so I don't fully agree with most of them. If the series were to be Pixar, I think the chances of each franchise would be roughly: Toy Story: Unsure. They've been done a lot in pervious sets, and most of the characters that haven't been done (like the Potato Heads) have licensing issues. At the same time, Woody and Buzz are the poster children for Pixar, so I can't rule it out entirely. A Bug's Life: Possible. It doesn't have a lot of lasting impact like the earlier films, but I think Flic or Hopper are certainly possible. They could also be some of the only "army builders" in the series. Monsters Inc: Boo would be easily enough, but the titular monsters would need a lot of new molds and might not fit into a regular minifigure "template." Finding Nemo: Maybe Darla? Probably skipped, though. The Incredibles: Same boat as Toy Story, but it's been longer since those sets came out. I won't but any money one way or the other though... Cars: Nope Ratatouille: Linguini with a Remy accessory would be fantastic. You could even possibly do Skinner or Colette with the cookbook, but I'll lean towards Skinner so there's some villains. WALL-E: I would love a minifig-scale WALL-E and EVE, but I think they would make more sense in a set with WALL-E's truck. So, probably a no. Up: I guess you could do Muntz, and maybe Ellie? But we already got Carl and Russell with the house, so it's probably a no. Brave: Merida's been requested for a long time, so this would easily be her best chance. Not sure who else would be best with her though... Inside Out: We've gotten a few minidolls, but we could still get minifigs easily enough. Joy and Sadness would probably be the two they would start with. The Good Dinosaur: This movie bombed, so I doubt Spot would get in. Coco: Already represented in the Disney 100 series. They could maybe move to some lesser characters, but I doubt it. Onward: It would probably work. You might even be able to get away with the Avatar head for Ian... Maybe. Barley would also probably be there. Soul: Either the "soul" version, or the human version of Joe. Or both. Luca: The sea monster forms would be more interesting, but, again, they could go either way. Turning Red: Another one where the main character could potentially have two different forms? Yup! Elemental: Ember and Wade are easy picks. There's also a chance they could do something from Elio (out next June), or something from one of their shorts, but I don't think the chances of either of those are super high. So, just looking through it, a possible series could include: Flic, Hopper, Boo, Linguini, Skinner, Merida, Joy, Sadness, Ian Barley, Joe, 22, Ember, Wade, and some variants from Soul, Luca, and Turning Red. It does lean a little bit towards more recent Pixar movies, but they could do some repeats/new variations if they wanted some of the older films. Either way, I think that there's enough logical, new minifigures they could use for a Pixar series, if that's what the hint is getting at. Or I could just be off my rocker, and it's something else... -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours

I'm in the exact same boat. There are far too many hotter irons Lego could use right now that reawaken a decade old theme that didn't sell super well (though if someone else really wants it, more power to you!) Good idea! Or maybe it's Pixar in general... -
Could Simpsons line of Minifigure series or Sets return?

This has already been brought up in the Star Wars thread. TandNBricks said directly that "I never said Simpsons S3 is coming." So, I think this is a misread. -

Frankly, I don't like the colored eyes on most minifigures, even if they are an alien. The only exception to this for me is if they're white, showing they're blind, or if they're some other color to show they're possessed/doing something magical (like Frodo or Merry Rumwell from the D&D set). And, if you are going to have colored eyes, be sure they have some kind of black pupil, unless, again, you're going for some kind of blind or magic effect. I think the plain black and white eyes feel much more "classic Lego" to me, and look better in the vast majority of cases. I mean, just look at the difference between the 2016 Emperor and the 2023 Emperor. You can't tell me that the face is an upgrade. Just adding in a pupil does a LOT for the eyes, and Lego really needs to add them back in. -

Why stop at space babies - why not have some knight babies or pirate babies too? Sure, that might mean new mold, but the space babies got new molds too... -

Hmm... How that it looks like New Thrawn's uniform isn't dirty, I wonder if I should sell off the old one that I have and replace it with the new one... If someone was able to get Thrawn and Ezra, though, there's a good chance they have the other minifigs - and they could just be staggering their leaks for more "content." So, we might be able to see the rest soon! -
Marvel Superheroes 2024 - Rumors & Discussion
JohnTPT17 replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
I imagine it's probably a combination of: 1, MSH2 and Avengers not meeting sales expectations; 2, the high cost of making another Avengers game, especially if they had to pay for even more likenesses/voices, or 3, not wanting to compete with that other Marvel game that came out in 2020. All of those are just guesses, though. -
LEGO Videogame Tie-Ins - Rumors & Discussion

It's available with the basic Nintendo Switch Online subscription. You can even probably get through it during one of the free trials they give out every so often. This was my childhood Zelda, and I absolutely love the game. It's honestly one of the main reasons I got my Wii U, so I could play it again. -
Shame it's minidolls - unless they're going to try to use this to make minidolls more appealing to adults/teens? Even then, I don't think it will work. Hopefully the builds follow the trend of recent Friends sets and has solid builds, even if there's no traditional minifigs to go with them.
-
I think the closest Lego has ever gotten to something like that was the "VIP Top 5" set, which brought back some popular picks from pervious series due to a fan vote (though there were also some odd inclusions in there). That was well over a decade ago, though, but Lego could always have some other "allstars" pack again if they wanted to, at least in theory. Agreed. There's several sellers on eBay, and even a few on Bricklink, that sell full sets for MSRP - sometimes even with free shipping. It's a lot easier to do that than the old series, which had uneven numbers of minifigs in each box, so I imagine that's why it's a lot more common nowadays. It is trickier to army build or get in-demand individuals, though.
-
It's not impossible - Pippin's torso ended up on there eventually - but I think the chances are very, very low, as they are for most licensed parts.
-
Nice job! But I'll go against the grain and say that I still think the regular sized one looks better. He looks far too much like a lithe Barbie/Friends minidoll with the big limbs for me. I think the helmet alone makes him tall enough to be imposing, IMO.
-
It really is bizarre that Lego seems to have gotten allergic to traditional Battle Packs over the pack decade (with a few random exceptions here and there). If anything, I would think those are fantastic "gateway" sets to getting into new themes. And if they wanted to test the waters/limits the releases, just keep the packs exclusive to lego.com and don't do full retail releases with them (which they kinda did with some of the Build a Minifig options, but that doesn't work for those of us who live far away from stores). At worst, Lego could just go back to the old minifigure chessboard strategies, especially for something like Castle. 32 minifigs, even with repeats, if a great way to quickly fill out numbers. But, no, we have to play the Pick a Brick restock waiting game to maybe be able to get the figures...
-
Maybe, but there's lots of hard plastic spikes/horns/claws on lots of current Ninjago sets - which do target kids. So, in this instance, I think it's moreso about getting details on a complex piece that about safely.
-
The set's not being targeted to little kids, though - this is clearly an 18+ set. Though Lego has rubber-ized plenty of other mold like horns and spears though... I think it's moreso about the details on the molds - either of those might have been tricky to make using a standard hard mold. Not impossible... Just harder and more expensive, which it seems like Lego didn't think was worth it.
