Lego Icons 10332 Medieval Town Square Discussion Thread

Where are they getting the wool for the tapestries? The squirrel? Or is one goat stimulating the economy of half of the town? Also, there's a roast turkey and other food items in the inn area, so you could argue that a few chickens could tie into that. -

My guess is that they didn't want the Bricklink Designer Program to overshadow the announcement, and so they pushed it back a day, possibly two? Some people on here even reported on Brickset publishing a press release, then quickly taking it down, so it sounds like it's ready to go. That's the only reason I can think of to keep delaying it at this point. -

The Icons Spaceship was a retail (Walmart) exclusive, though - ergo, less of those would have been made. Compare that to the more widely available Eldorado Fortress: those pirate and soldier pieces and fairly consistently in stock now. -

I was referring to the Medieval Town Square getting a lukewarm reception - Mountain Fortress seems to be pretty well liked, based on the sales (I even got one myself). Sorry if that was unclear! -

If you got the order confirmation e-mail, you should be good. The pre-orders for these send odd messages (you may even get an "out of stock" email - I did with previous waves), and there may be some weird shipment changes as July gets closer. I would just ignore most of them, until your credit card gets charged or you get a shipping number. I do wonder with as lukewarm as this set is being received here, if that will trickle down into less sales of this set. I hope Lego doesn't take the wrong message in that we don't want medieval peasant sets - just that this done did not match out year-long pent up expectations. -
I just got the Bricklink landing page to load. Mountain Fortress is about 1/3 of the way funded already, or roughly 1000 copies sold. Snack Shack and Old Train Engine are the runners, up, then the general store, and then Partisian Street. I'm sure everything will be funded, if not sold out, by the end of the say though. 9:28 update: Mountain Fortress about halfway to funding goal. 9:37 update: Lots more orders in. Mountain Fortress about 1/3 sold out, so act quickly!. Snack Shack and Old Train Engine almost funded. General Store a little over halfway there. Parisian Street about 1/3 to funding. 9:39 update: Either my computer was slow, or Bricklink had an update, but everything is funded. Mountain Fortress close to half. Old Train Engine in second at about 1/5; Snack Shack in third at just under that. Parisian Street and General Store are very close for 4th, at maybe 1/8 sold out. 9:46 update: Mountain Fortress over half. Old Train Engine and Snack Shack still look close, and are about 1/3 sold out. General Store (1/5 sold out) outpacing Parisian Street (no major changes). 9:54 update: Mountain Fortress about 2/3 sold out. Old Train Engine and Snack Shack a little under half. 10:00 update: Things seemed to have settled a bit, though they are still selling quickly. Snack Shack might have pulled ahead of OTE, but it's hard to tell. I also cracked and ordered a Mountain Fortress and a Snack Shack - I'll have to decide what to do with them once they arrive, but I thought I ought to at least get my foot in the door. 10:05 update: Mountain Fortress about 3/4 sold out. It might be hitting some region limits soon. 10:32 update: Mountain Fortress almost sold out. Snack Shack and OTE both over half, with Snack Shack at a slight lead. General store a little under half. Partisian Street about 1/3.

Lego Icons 10332 Medieval Town Square Discussion Thread

Bah... Well, these high-res photos are a bit of a mixed bag for me as well. While it does look like the rooms are nice and full, I feel like too many compromises were made. Missing animals. Stickers galore. Exterior details that feel thrown together, or are just missing. I think a lot of people hit the nail on the head when they saw that the old MMV had a lot of exterior details and play areas - all this one has is a sad tree, a small stand, and a cart, while the old one had a much larger tree, an expanded stall area, and the feasting table, let alone all of the critters. The goat and the new torsos are nice, but those will all be coming to Pick a Brick anyways. The set is by no means bad, but it's not a slam dunk by any measure. Hopefully this goes for a wider release eventually and I can get it at a bit of a discount... I think $180-$200 (which isn't completely unreasonable, at that's about the PPP of the Viking Village, which is all printed and had new torsos) is about what I value this at. I would have been willing to do $230 if it did have more animals, prints, and more exterior details. What a shame... -

Um... Surely there are some animals hiding inside one of the buildings... Right? They didn't just kill the cows and stick their horns in the chimneys, right?! Besides the goat (gold star there), the animals are SEVERELY lacking... one kitten, one squirrel, and a few birds and frogs, all of which are fairly common, is a bit insulting - especially after the past medieval peasant sets were havens for huge numbers of animals. Lego really cheaped out by not giving a cow or two, a horse to go with the cart, or at least a second goat. Major disappointment on that front. Also, that tree in the back looks kinda pathetic - would have either gotten a well, or a different style of tree. Otherwise... This is basically all I wanted. It looks like there are several new torsos and faces of the peasants, and the buildings look good from this front angle. It looks like there is a lot of potential for all of the rooms - I can already see a pie on a windowsill, a broken cart wheel, and more. And hopefully some of those signs are printed - having them all be stickers would be a pity. Excited for clearer photos (and interior ones!) tomorrow, though! I'll still be waiting for either a small sale, or at least a good GWP, but it's on my wishlist! -
Voting for Wave 4 is now live! Overall... I have mixed feelings. There are a lot of repeated ideas in this wave, either from previous waves, or within the same wave. Lots of Modular buildings, medieval scenes, ships, trains, and nondescript spaceships. Lots of resubmissions from previous waves as well, for better or for worse. After a quick look, here are some of my personal favorites (with a strong medieval love), with no particular order: Under 1000 pieces: Either Viking Longship or Viking Dragon Ship. The designs are very similar (like I say, lots of repeated ideas!), but I think I like the first one a bit more. Automated Side-Loading Garbage Truck. Another one of those "how is this so many pieces?" kinds of sets, but the function is unique. Grand Medieval Joust. Probably one of, if not my absolute, favorite. Reminds me of 10223 without the castle bit, with some clever building techniques with the tree and the chairs. Simple, yet effective! The Medieval Duel Hall. Similar to the one above, but "indoors." Looks like it has some size, despite being only about 900 parts. 1-2k Parts: The Market. Another simple medieval set, but I appreciate the good size/cost ratio and the winter theming. Imperial Sloop 'Neptune.' This one feels like a great love letter to pirates/Imperials, even including attachment points for cloth sails. Another excellent example of having a good set without an overload of pieces, and my other favorite with Grand Medieval Joust. Winter Village Town Hall. The building itself is not very deep, but it still looks very cozy, and would be a good centerpiece for winter setups. 2k+ Parts: Countryside Mill & Bakery. There's a bit of a debate of what size to make medieval buildings, but I think this one splits the difference quite well. The ox-driven plow is a great mini-build. Seaside Market. Looks complete on both the "seaside" part and the "land" part. Lots of nice looking sub-areas. The Riverside Scholars. I know for sure that this one is a resubmission, but I still think it looks good. Would probably be well out of my budget, though. Imperial Frigate Minerva. A modern recreation of 10210, and it looks beautiful! Well out of my budget, though, which is why I would rather get the Neptune. Elven Castle. Another gorgeous set, with the only downside it being out of my budget yet again. I really like how it opens in the back, and the details look very nice. There might be some that I missed, but those were some of the highlights for me! Anyone else get to early voting? Edit: I also noticed that Series 7 was soft-announced with this wave! Series 5 submissions are due in May, Series 6 in September, and Series 7 in January 2025. I'm glad that Lego is going to continue to support this program!

Solid review! I also appreciate that it shows the shed in comparison to some of the locomotives - it's probably a big factor for all of the train enthusiasts looking to get this one. Also, I found another review - this one a written one about the General Store, curtesy of Brickset: https://brickset.com/article/105883/review-bricklink-designer-program-general-store And I'm with you, @RichardGoring; these reviews have been really good to help showcase these sets a bit more, as well as spread some awareness about the program. I wonder how many more might trickle out over the next few days...
-
Okay, now that I've had some time to sit with the reviews, here are my updated thoughts and list of possible buys: Surprisingly, the Snack Shack went up a lot for me with the reviews. The overall footprint is much larger than I thought, and I can now "see" where the pieces are - even though I think it's still a little overpriced (I think $40 would be a little closer to it's "value" for me). Still, it might be worth a slight premium for this set, and I think that it's budget-conscious enough that I will try to get one of these! Mountain Fortress is a beast of a set - the side-by-side with the Lion Knight castle really helps to show that. While the interior is lackluster, and the minifig count feels low in comparison to Lion Knight's Castle, it looks great on the outside and has a lot of great building techniques and details (like the jailed lion knight and mini Lion Knight's Castle). At the end of the day, though, it's still the most expensive set of the wave, and it might be hard to convince people to buy this one over the more richly detailed and more minifig-dense Lion Knight's Castle. I can see the appeal, but it just slides out of buyability for me... Unless I get a bad case of FOMO on Wednesday. My opinions on Parisian Street have changed the least: I still think it's a solid, charming set. The reviewer in the video was pretty critical of the set, but I think a lot of his points were either a bit overblown, or were out of a lack of awareness of the source material. I think that this set would look good on many an AFOL's shelf (especially a narrow one, since it's not as deep as the standard modular), but it's just not for me. It saddens me how much General Store went down for me with the firsthand look. I'm not a huge fan of the color on the outside (it's a little brighter than I thought they would be), and the interior walls with the backsides or the bricks visible just look ugly to me. I also think it suffers a bit from the Medieval Blacksmith syndrome: A good set, but not necessarily something that scales well with other builds. I do like the wagon, though - I might need those instructions at some point. The Old Train Engine Shed is a weirdly niche set - it's basically just a big, empty building to hide a train in. I could see it being popular with train enthusiasts, but it doesn't work great as a stand-alone set: you would basically already need to have other trains/tracks in order to make this work. If any of these five struggle to get to 3k buyers, I think it will be this one - though I think they should all reach that threshold without any major issues. Anyways, I'm excited to see what will come on Wednesday! Hopefully there won't be any major bugs and people can get the sets they want from this. My favorite ones are still yet to come, but I think this wave should, overall, give a fair number of people something good to look forward to.

LEGO Star Wars 2024 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
JohnTPT17 replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
The 7965 version from 2011 had only Vader, and 4504 from 2004 had only a single Snowtrooper. Not that I'm going to join any of this squabbling. More importantly, I just read that Carl Weathers, who portrayed Greef Carga, just passed away (rest in peace - you were one of the most consistent parts of The Mandalorian for me). I know that actors passing have had ripple effects on how and when characters get included in Lego sets, so I'm curious how this might effect any Mando-centric sets in the future. Hopefully he won't have to be excluded from any future Nevarro sets. -

Welcome to Eurobricks! Any guesses of animals and minifigs is mostly rooted in the old leak pictures. No chickens could be easily seen, but that photo wasn't final. We'll know for sure in a few days, hopefully! If for some reason it doesn't have chickens, though, you can get them from either Lego directly on Pick a Brick, or from Bricklink. -

I think the dwarves have all been unofficial leaks though, so I wouldn't consider any of those official "releases." That, and it's probably more likely that those would be teased early by leakers anyways - more likely to get more clicks and generate more buzz from a well-known IP over "peasant #3" or whatnot. I do hope that we get a tease on Monday or Tuesday though! We got one for Eldorado, so there's a chance we could get one for this set as well. Probably something goat-centric... -
Thanks! I'll have to watch it when I get home. This is one of the other ones I've been thinking about getting, and hopefully a hands-on will help me know which way to go. Interestingly, this was also addressed by The Brother's Brick, though I think they had a better outlook about it: I wonder if this is all just a natural, independent reaction from the AFOL community to the resale market of the first waves of the Bricklink Designer Program, or if this is even something Lego themselves is trying to address indirectly via these reviews. For better or for worse, these sets are a big magnet for "Lego investors," and I'm sure Lego has noticed this by now. There's definitely people who have, and will, use these sets as some kind of investment - whether that be a quick flip as soon as these arrive, or sitting on the sets for a few years. Heck, I would be lying if I said this wasn't something that has crossed my mind with these waves, to at least bring down "my cost" for these sets if I were to get two and resell the second one. Maybe that's me being smart and economical - or, maybe that makes me a bit of a scumbag; I really don't know. All I know if that I'm excited for the 7th (both for these, and for Medieval Town Square to hopefully be revealed), and hopefully I can get some of these ordered without too many issues.

There's also a few other previews out for some of the other sets. - just photos, though: Jay's Brick Blog has one for the Old Train Engine Shed: https://jaysbrickblog.com/reviews/hands-on-with-the-lego-bricklink-designer-old-train-engine-shed/ The Brother's Brick has this one for the Snack Shack: https://www.brothers-brick.com/2024/02/02/bricklink-designer-program-series-1-snack-shack-divey-delicious-or-both-review/#more-382624 TBB might have convinced me to get the Snack Shack... The footprint looks much larger than I initially thought, and it even has a few new things not in the other photos, like a second minifig. Are there any previews out there for the General Store? I tried looking, but didn't notice any yet.

JohnTPT17 replied to BrickJagger's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Oh, I'm not expecting universal praise or anything - I'm sure even I might have some critiques - I just don't want three pages of squabbling over the shading of a particular peasant torso, or something minor like that. I'm optimistic and think there will be a lot of good in this set, and I don't want to have to wade through pages of nitpicks to be able to find the positive reactions. I think some kind of brick-built tapestry is the most likely scenario. One other possibility is that is could be printed in a cloth piece (maybe even the "double cape" hammock piece for something larger), but that could also be expensive and/or not look great. As far as chickens though... I think there's a good chance we will get a couple. The last two peasant-centric sets had chickens, and they're a very common animal overall. I'd gladly trade a couple of other birds to get them - three owls and four small birds feels like a lot. The prelim isn't set in stone after all - things have changed for the other sets that have gotten full reveals. -

That's about all I would want at this point as well - one final guessing game figuring out what the composition of 15 animals, 12 peasants, and two knights would be (or whatever the actual numbers are). I'm fine to wait one more week to get a full reveal (especially if we get a teaser next Monday or Tuesday), but one final round of guessing would be fun! (Though, can we all agree now to not have a complete meltdown about any minifig's printing, like is going on with Fives in the Star Wars thread? Thanks!)
