... And, they're already out of stock. Still, they're here, and eventually stock levels will probably even out to make them more readily available. -

Nice to see that there are no stickers in that set! It's not a set I can see buying personally, but I highly respect it and think it looks good. Hopefully the aftermarket for those minifigs (and maybe the film strip) will be reasonable... I do wonder if the strip might be teases for future minifigs/minifigure designs. For example, Cinderella has the "wide" skirt piece instead of the smaller one she has in the castle. Simba looks to be in the exact same pose as the standard "big cat" mold, including the stud on his back. And several of the minifigs (including Wart, Mowgli, and Mirabel) don't have their hair go below their torso - that extra level of detail makes it feel like someone thought about how those characters would actually translate in to real figures, as opposed to simply being a lego-ized drawing. -

If Lego/Disney wanted to, they could potentially make a new "mouse head" mold with a hole for pin-in accessories, similar to how they made the Donald Duck head mold and used it for both him and Daisy. A similar mold for mice could potentially get reused for the Cinderella mice, Timothy, The Rescuers, and maybe even The Great Mouse Detective. It wouldn't be a perfect fit for all of them, but it might work... I was finally able to crack open my Villain Icons set this evening, and it's been pretty fun to build! I've gotten up to the Maleficent VHS case. There have been a lot of building shapes and techniques that have really interesting, though I have come up with a few issues. One, I'm missing my Evil Queen head and had an extra red corner piece of the apple... I'll make sure all of my other parts are present then get a replacement from Lego. I also noticed that there have been some issues with some of the tiles on the edge of the VHS - sometimes, they leave a noticeable gap, so I have to shuffle around the pieces to have it looks more smooth. A bit annoying, but I can live with it. I also misplaced two of the stickers, but thankfully I was able to reapply them without too much damage besides some scrunched corners. My biggest issue, though, have been the minifigs - specifically, the printing on Gaston's legs. The prints don't go all the way to the edges of the legs, which looks really sloppy. I'm even starting to look around to see what other options there might be... But sadly, the only "black upper legs - dark brown lower legs" I could find were a part of Apocalypseburg Batman... I tried these legs, but they didn't look quite right... maybe Santa legs would look better? I also tried some plain black legs, but I feel like Gaston needs some boots. If anybody else has any ideas, I'll take them! -

This is exactly how I feel. The Fantasia, Dumbo, and Bambi ones don't look bad, but I don't see any of them doing well as $80-100 retail sets to the general audience; that price range and "displayable object" niche are already covered by the camera and Villain Icons. The Sorcerer Mickey one doesn't even look that good to me - Mickey looks fine, and there are a few fun references, but then the rest is just badly photoshopped stock photos of previous Disney minifigs. It also looks like it would need some big stickers to have it work - as-is, it looks like Mickey's eyes go across multiple parts, which is already a no-no. The right side of the model doesn't even look like it would be stable if built in real life. If that model were selected, I doubt many (or even any) of those minifigs will be staying. In some ways, it's honestly my least favorite of the five. Tinkerbelle, who would probably be closer to $20-30 in price range, feels like she compliments the Villain Icons/Camera sets in a way - a "display piece" that has some fun charm to it that appeals to both "Disney Adults" and AFOLS, but with a lower barrier to entry in both complexity and price than the other two. There were other ones in the general vote that would have been better, but out of these five, I think this one is the best. The only issue with Quasimodo is that he would require a new mold to do him justice, and the Villain Icons didn't make any new molds. I don't know if that would be a "rule" or not, but it could potentially exclude him. That being said, I think he could probably fit in a "Heroes Icons" set, with a large bell being his representative object. If not there, then maybe a future CMF, with his accessory being a bird. I wouldn't say no to a full set with multiple characters, but I don't see that happening due to the "religious imagery." Wart... Eh, not my favorite Disney character. I feel like Merlin might be more iconic. Then again, Genie Jafar got made, who probably isn't super iconic (in that form) either. I probably just have different tastes. I'll join you in your wishing! I could see that set potentially releasing sometime in December as a bit of a "Christmas release" for Disney. For the rest of the year, it might look like: nothing in August, camera/Peter Pan in September, Agrabah in October, Wish in November, and maybe the ballroom for December? That's all just speculation though. -

Ooh, smart! I wasn't sure what the order was. I was also thinking that everything on the reel was only from the 2D movies, but Frozen and Encanto make sense for those top two. I'll go back and edit it with the years in case anyone would want to see it. The only thing that came to my mind was the stock image when you take an eye exam and get air blown into your eye. I'm at a loss as well... -

Oh, wow, I did not have Dumbo or Bambi on my bingo card for characters that would be made this year! And they both look great! I can only imagine what the price to get them on the aftermarket will be though - I don't really want or need the camera, as well-designed as it is. Looking at the camera reel, I think the scenes are (in reverse chronological order): -2021: Encanto (Mirabel and Alma) -2013: Frozen (Coronation Elsa/Let it Go) -2009: The Princess and the Frog (Tiana on the balcony) -1998: Mulan (Mulan and Mushu) -1994: The Lion King (Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa on the bridge) -1991: Beauty and the Beast -1989: The Little Mermaid (Same image as in Villain Icons) -1977: The Rescuers (on their leaf boat) -1973: Robin Hood -1967: The Jungle Book (Baloo and Mowgli) -1963: The Sword in the Stone (Arthur pulling the sword) -1959: Sleeping Beauty (Maleficent) -1951: Alice in Wonderland -1950: Cinderella (Cinderella and Fairy Godmother) -1942: Bambi -1941: Dumbo -1940: Fantasia (Sorcerer Mickey) or Pinocchio -1937: Snow White and the Seven Dwarves? -1928: Steamboat Willie If any of those are teases for future characters, we still have some whopper sets in the pipeline! -
I'm not really into this theme, but I noticed that the last two Koopalings have been revealed! Set 71427: Larry's and Morton's Airships - 1062 Pieces - $79.99 USD. Preorders are open now, ships August 1st. https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/larry-s-and-morton-s-airships-expansion-set-71427

So does the Winnie the Pooh set, though it's on backorder. It also added the GWP to my cart with Indiana Jones sets, but does not work with Marvel or Star Wars. -

I got my old one sold two weeks ago, just before the official reveal. I'll use those funds to get it, but not Day 1 - I'll wait for either a discount (Zavvi discounted the old one a handful of times, so it's not impossible), or for a GWP I'd really want. I know most people are waiting for the Majisto one, but I'm waiting for the Galileo one to pop up. -

Just from a quick glance, it looks like a lot (though not all) of the castle and viking torsos and some of the legs are Bestseller now, as are several of the newer animal molds (lamb, squirrel, piglet, etc). Interestingly, the Viking helmet that originated from the Sanctum Sanctorum is now a standard part - I'm pretty sure that one was a Bestseller. I think there are also a few new parts that have been added - specifically, the printed leaf tile from the Tinkerbelle Brickhead and the dark orange dog are new (at least from the last time I looked, which was awhile ago). -

I think it's probably some kind of a projector. The box art shows the Steamboat Willey scene on the big "screen," but other photos show it blank. So, I think it makes sense if there was a transparent tile in front of the light brick that would "project" onto the screen. -

The Brothers Brick has their review up as well - it has a lot of side-by-side shots with the old castle, for those wanting to see the comparison. -

I would totally get a Moments/Diorama set of this. Belle and Beast in the foreground, Lumiere and Cogsworth on a piano in the background, a chandelier above, and maybe throw in Mrs. Potts and Chip on the serving tray. That format could be a good way to get several other similar Disney scenes, even if we would have to pay the Disney/diorama tax to get them. -

The Peter Pan set looks great! The use of colors in that set is used really well. Awful price, though. That set also would have been a great excuse to give Peter Pan midi-legs and a micro Tinkerbell. The fact they are exactly the same as the train versions are a bummer. -
I think my thoughts can best be summed up in a comparison of castles: King Leo's Castle and the Fantasy Era Castle. I personally prefer the Fantasy Era castle because it focuses on the outer walls, leaving the interior area open for more free display/play of minifigs and smaller builds. In comparison, King Leo's Castle feels much smaller to me and offers less "play" due to the smaller interior. Same with the Eldorado Fortress: by being tied to a "baseplate," everything gets squished together and it doesn't feel as big/imposing to me. It doesn't have to be fully, densely built for me to like it - I'd rather it have some open space in the middle/back behind that I can fill with my own imagination/builds. (Hopefully that made sense!). That being said, I do think the fortress is very dense with details, and overall it is still a good set. If I were to get it, I would probably display it in one of the more linear/open configurations so it looks and feels bigger.

Brickset's photo of the fortress next to Pirates of Barracuda Bay makes the fortress look almost comically small. I know PoBB gets a lot of volume from the masts/sails, but it would make displaying them together look a bit funny to me. It's now gone from a "get with the right discount/GWP" to "possible pass" for me. Edit: I think Jay's Brick Blog nailed it by calling it "a bit too faithful to the original." Odd dimensions, colors that don't always work, the old school ramp taking up a large amount of space... It does mirror the old one, to be sure, but almost to a fault.

Now that we have both the front and back pictures, I think this new castle is, mostly, an improvement. The outside looks a lot more clean, and I love the green slopes at the bottom as opposed to it being entirely grey. The minifigs are a definite improvement, though I do think most of the princesses could appear in smaller sets over time. The fireworks don't add anything for me, I added a few that looked like that to my mini castle and thought they looked great, but they don't seem to work on a castle this big. I do think I like the ground level interior of the old one better though - that tile floor looked really good, and those statues helped give a lot of life. It should be pretty easy to add those in though! I also was really hoping for Belle and the Beast, but I feel like Disney will release them sooner rather than later now that we have Gaston. -

Hmm... Y'all might be right. I was thinking Snow's skirt might be more tan (to match the look of the movie/the torso printing color), but you're right that it doesn't really look like Belle... It's probably just me trying to look for some kind of confirmation for her and the Beast, if they're in the set at all! -

I think Snow White may have been built incorrectly.... It looks like she has a collar piece in that Castle leak, which isn't in the figure. That makes me think the skirt may be wrong, and it might actually be Belle's! It would be the right color for it. That hopefully would mean that Show White's is a little closer in color to her torso.
