Out of curiosity, does a necromancer have his Critical Hit multiplied by 0 or 1 if he has no undead army?
-
"Any intelligence you may have is invalidated by the last pieces of humanity festering within you, Necromancer. It really is that simple."
-
QM Note: Am I forgiven for allowing you to summon up a kamikaze squad? "Strategizing is futile, Witch. Don't you get it? You can't win! Nobody has ever escaped from my clutches... What makes you think your little band of rodents is the exception?!"
-
QM Note: First of all, added the Amalgam's hex immunity. Sorry about that, folks. Special Mirror Breakdown: Dark Wave: All enemies take damage equal to their level. Succumbing Sonar: One random enemy is hexed, and another is confused. Bomb Ring: Karie spawns her own bomb squad. If the Amalgam's squad of Blast Satellites is defeated entirely, Karie's bomb squad kamikazes the Amalgam, doing 5 damage disregarding row and SP for each Blast Satellite. (The Amalgam's bombsquad blows up before karie's basically.) Tree Topple: I'll count it as a critical hit, I suppose - can't have you nuking my boss monsters down to 1 HP instantly. (Note that Tree Topple will be directed towards a random hero if the Technique Satellite triggers it.) Vigor Boost: Karie gains 1 level for the rest of the battle. Defense Boost: Karie gains 2 SP for the rest of the battle. Speed Boost: Karie is hastened next round. Special Boost: Karie gets to use her shield. So all of them function pretty normally, except Tree Topple. Yes, karie could theoretically summon a squad of Satellites to kamikaze in her name.
-
QM Note: Note that I've made an error for enemy types. The Reinforcement Satellite is meant to be Rock type, and the Blitz satellite Fire.

"So... You choose to fight. You choose to oppose me? Hear me, heroes: None of your verminous kind has ever escaped my wrath, and you are no exception! Allow me to demonstrate to you the power that we Oculoids weild! EN GARDE!" The Oculoid Amalgam drifts towards the heroes, ready for battle. A ring of satellites surround the collosal inky beast, ready to aid their master... As the party draws their weapons to strike down this absymal monster, they knew that this was the final battle. The fate of the documents... Arnold Keolo... Taurost, and perhaps even the entire forest was staked on this bout! Prepare For The Final Battle! "You shall pay the price for your meddling!" Oculoid Amalgam, Level 50 Ancient HP: 2500/2500 SP: 0 Immune to all Scroll Effects and Hexed! Specials: Dark Wave: The Oculoid Amalgam shoots beams of darkness out of its tentacles, sweeping the party with them. All heroes take damage to their level, disregarding row. Succumbing Sonar: The Oculoid Amalgam emits an odd signal, Hexing 1 random hero for 3 rounds. Another random hero is Confused for 1 round as well. (Both can be remeided or removed for 3 ether.) Bomb Ring: Instead of spawning Satellites next round, the Oculoid Amalgam gains 2 levels, 2 SP, and spawns 6 Blast Satellites to surround the heroes. Tree Topple: The Oculoid Amalgam knocks down a tree, crushing the hero who rolled Special Damage. That hero takes damage equal to their level x2 and loses one of their positive effects. Specials decided by RNG. Passive Specials: Toxic Tentacles: Rolls of Damage or Free Hits of a 1/6 chance of Infecting the hero who is recieving damage for 3 rounds. (Can be remedied or removed for 3 ether.) Tactical Formation: The Oculoid Amalgam spreads out his allies almost flawlessly. Area of Effect attacks only affect the enemy that is beaing targetted, as well as the enemies above and below them in the enemy list. Endgame Syndrome: ??? (Occurs when the Oculoid Amalgam drops below 1000 HP) Satellite Summon: At the end of every round, the Oculoid Amalgam summons 5 satellites. The die is rolled for each one to decide which Satellites he summons: -Blitz Satellite: 1/2 chance. -Reinforcement Satellite: 1/6 chance. -Haste Satellite: 1/6 chance. -Technique Satellite: 1/6 chance. Drops: Ectoplasm x2, Emergency Essence x2, 120 gold, Oculoid iris, Amalgam Claw, Lifespark Documets Blitz Satellite A, Level 0 Fire HP: 1/1 Specials: Devour: The Blitz Satellite gets eaten instantly, transferring its boost. Passive Specials: Vigor Boost: At the end of the round, the Blitz Satellite gets devoured by the Oculoid Amalgam, removing it from battle. When devoured it boosts the Oculoid Amalgam's level by 1. Indigestion: If the Oculoid Amalgam eats a hexed Satellite, it will take an instant 20 damage (disregarding SP) instead of recieving a boost. Drops: Nothing. Blitz Satellite B, Level 0 Fire HP: 1/1 Specials: Devour: The Blitz Satellite gets eaten instantly, transferring its boost. Reinforcement Satellite, Level 0 Rock HP: 1/1 Specials: Devour: The Reinforcement Satellite gets eaten instantly, transferring its boost. Passive Specials: Defense Boost: At the end of the round, the Reinforcement Satellite gets devoured by the Oculoid Amalgam, removing it from battle. When devoured it boosts the Oculoid Amalgam's SP by 2. Indigestion: If the Oculoid Amalgam eats a hexed Satellite, it will take an instant 20 damage (disregarding SP) instead of recieving a boost. Drops: Nothing. Haste Satellite, Level 0 Demon HP: 1/1 Specials: Devour: The Haste Satellite gets eaten instantly, transferring its boost. Passive Specials: Speed Boost: At the end of the round, the Haste Satellite gets devoured by the Oculoid Amalgam, removing it from battle. When devoured it Hastens the Oculoid Amalgam next round. (if two Haste satellites are devoured at once, the effect does not stack). Indigestion: If the Oculoid Amalgam eats a hexed Satellite, it will take an instant 20 damage (disregarding SP) instead of recieving a boost. Drops: Nothing. Technique Satellite, Level 0 Demon HP: 1/1 Specials: Devour: The Technique Satellite gets eaten instantly, transferring its boost. Passive Specials: Special Boost: At the end of the round, the Technique Satellite gets devoured by the Oculoid Amalgam, removing it from battle. When devoured it allows the Oculoid Amalgam to use one random special. Indigestion: If the Oculoid Amalgam eats a hexed Satellite, it will take an instant 20 damage (disregarding SP) instead of recieving a boost. Drops: 5 gold. NOTE: Not every satellite can be reivved as an undead. Every 5 satellites killed by the heroes, a necromancer can revive a Level 20 Undead Satellite. Heroica RPG- Quest #78: As Thick As Thieves

I look down at my barbed hand, the pieces of glass shimmering with a sharp glint. Sore wasn't even close to describing the sensation... My entire hand felt like it was on fire, slowly burning away. "So this is the price I pay for my penance... Hm. Thank you, Costello. I'll be keeping an eye out for that herb, rest assured." I turn to Grimwald, smiling sadly... Even though my hood concealed it. "Yeah, it doens't look too good, does it? I'm already old enough, I don't need to be walking around with no hand for my last couple of years. However, even if I do cure the infection... I'm leaving the glass in. It's the price I will pay for killing... her. Thank you for the kind offer, Costello. Now, where are we heading next? And before I forget..." I down a Mead, Nostrum, and Semlling Salts.- 418 replies

And now for the final boss of 79... The Ultimate Eye of Sauron The Oculoid Amalgam! I'll allow some more roleplay/last minute preparation before I kick off the boss... But this is the end of the road, 79ers!
-
"The same cohort that is currently splattered all over the witch, I presume. But no matter. I assure you, Necromancer, the Spark is as real as I am... And our Master is only months away from full control of it. It'll be glorious, Necromancer, that I can assure you. The last pieces of humanity that remain inside of you may deny our Final Solution's beauty, but when the day comes you will see just how wonderful our plans truly are. The irony is amazing, isn't it? The Spark of Life will spell the death of mankind! But enough of this inane bantering... As the Necromancer said, heroes, I am the Oculoid of Wrath. Hundreds of humans have died at my hands before... What makes you think you'll be any different? Perhaps a demonstration of my power is in order, heroes..." The inky markings on the ground begin to glow and hiss, pulsating loudly. Even the Oculoids, arranged in perfect formation, do the same. "We Oculoids have our differences, our power struggles. We all have different vices. And yet, at the end of the day... We all are born from the same spark. We all serve the same master. We all have the same goal. At the end of the day, heroes... We are ONE!" Black light bursts out of the markings now, the Oculoids diving into the dead soil. The runes slither about the dead land, seemingly grabbing the other Oculoids and pushing them into the center of the formation. The Oculoid Chief absorbs the power of his cohorts, all joining into an inky mass in the middle of the barren wasteland... The massive mound of plasm hisses and sparks, jolts of black magic surging through it. It emits an aura of power, nearly the pushing the heroes of their feet. It becomes obvious what the Chief's incantation on the ground was: A spell to join their collective might! As the party comes to this horrible realization, four horrible tentacles shoot out of the mass of darkness. The plasm begins to take shape, beginning to hover into the sky... And the Oculoid Amalgam was born! The beast was a terror to behold, hovering menacingly over the party. He was a colossus of ink, trails of color and darkness flowing through his black body. His barbed claws gnash and spark with dark magic, seeming capable of tearing the heroes in two effortlessly. The eye seemed to hold great powers of its own, the heroes feeling their wills slip just looking at the purple iris. The giant barbs in the Amalgam's back spread out like wings, making this nightmarish beast much faster then his subordinates. Small barbed orbs of darkness orbit the beast, seemingly ready to join their master in battle. The demon speaks, his voice omnipresent and menacing... it seemed to echo off of everything in the forest, filling the heroes with a sense of dread like none other. "It's amazing, isn't it? The mind of a single Oculoid, controlling the powers of an entire horde... I'm more than powerful enough to destroy you all utterly! Do you still wish to fight, heroes? Or will you die at my hands, just like the rest always have and always will?!" It seems although this beast was the collective strength of the Oculoid horde, only the Chief was controlling this inky monstrosity.
-
"You delude yourself, Necromancer! With every word you delude yourself, trying to deny that we are like mirrors to our own soul... A mirror you are desperately trying to shatter, but to no avail. Each word you speak trying to separate yourself from our Master, while it actually drives you closer. Our Master? he weilds fathomless power. he could destroy this entire forest in a minute if he felt so inclined. Would not last a single moment against him in combat. And yet... You are similar. Creatures born of suffering. But you cling to your last bit of humanity, Necromancer. There is still an iota of suffering festering in your soul, but you don't want to admit it. Our master is anything but human, nor was he ever... But he decided long ago that humanity must die. You misunderstand me, boy. The documents themselves peak only of a myth about how the Spark came to be... A fairy tale, virtually. However, the spark itself is anything but... Do you want to know why, Necromancer? Because we Oculoids were BORN FROM IT." The Oculoid Chief chuckles once again, drifting away from the party and back into the center of the formation. The inky runes he had etched onto the ground begin to pulse and glow, the Chief still cackling. "As the Necromancer already knows, we Oculoids are only created with two things: our purpose and our vice. Can you guess my vice, heroes?"

It's nearly Boss O'Clock, 79ers! Endgame style!

"Give any other creature free will, and they benefit the world - or, at the very least, don't destroy it. Give a human free will... And they do nothing but war with their own kind, dragging everyone and everything down in the process. I may have no name, no possessions... But I am actually benefiting this world. What good have you three ever achieved? When have you ever done something that will truly stand out, not get swept up by the passage of time? Just try and give your lives meaning. Find your soul mate, save your wretched little city, raise an entire army of undead. You'll never find it."

I split the lock with a bolt from my crossbow... Outside of the heat of battle, the pain my mutilated hand was in became glaringly obvious. Hopefully the infection would subside soon enough. I put my bow away, addressing my fellow heroes. "Good job out there everybody. Failked to assassinate the more important targets, but... I guess I'm just getting old, aren't I?" I look down at my feet for a bit, pondering, before I address the freed men. "I'm assuming that your premonition involves your mind control chemicals?"- 418 replies

The Chief drifts over to Karie, staring her down. The Witch closes her eyes, not wanting to leave herself exposed to the demon's bewitching powers. "Bold words for someone I could bend to my will whenever I desired. Hollow words, as well... Your fear surrounds you like an aura, Witch. There is no escaping my wrath." "You over estimate yourself, Necromancer. I can see the fury in your eyes, the weariness in your posture - Your undead army is gone, as well. You are alone, and the only lifeline you have now is the two idiots before you. You shackled yourself to them, and your power paid the price for your ignorance. It is a shame, really... You truly are similar to our Master. I will strike you down, though, Necromancer. No human has ever gotten away from me and lived to tell the tale. Do you hear me, spellslinger? Not one. Pitiful horde? Hah. I could say the same about you. Strength comes in numbers, Necromancer... But in this case, you'll only be facing one Oculoid. Heh heh heh heh. That purple smoke? An incantation of mine... A lure, to wayward Oculoids. For centuries upon centuries our Master has been using us to reap information from all over the world... When he rounded us up for his Final Solution, some were too slow to hurry to the Citadel. Fortunately, I have managed to call upon each and every wayward Oculoid in the area. They work for me, for the time being." The Chief looks away. "Strength is numbers... Hmph. That is how you humans have gotten your way. It was always been how you got your way. Your ilk is like an infestation... Do you see this barren wasteland, heroes? This is what you will do, and what you are doing. At least I can pump back some life into this area when I have destroyed you. You don't have the intelligence to return the lives you destroy and ruin. I have peered into the hearts of so many humans over the years, heroes. And do you want to hear the truth? For a time, you scared me. You really did. It was terrifying to see the desires and lusts that each human held in their heart. I have yet to find a single human not bent on ruining the creatures and the world around them. The hearts and minds of mankind were terrifying to behold. All you do is destroy. Nothing more. Yourselves, and everyone else around you. To you people, the world is just collateral, something you try to destroy while you seek to take the lives of those who oppose you. Only humans house those thoughts, those desires, those cravings. Only humans. The other Oculoids here are little more than disciples of our Master, just reflections of his will. Nameless creatures, following their lord's wishes to the letter. I am too, to a degree, I suppose... But I have lingered long enough on Olegaia to see why my Master does what he must. Allow me to make myself clear, heroes... Do you know why we're here?" The Chief reveals a set of papers... The Lifespark Documents! "Do you know what this mission has been, heroes? Information suppression. Nothing more! All we have been doing is keeping knowledge of the spark away from you, to keep you from meddling in our schemes. There have been dozen of these operations over the past few months, and not a single human made it out. Dying for what? For knowledge worthless to them! I've taken the liberty of reading these documents I procured from the archaeologist... These papers hardly describe anything you don't know - For you and your insidious little employer, it is little more than a fairytale! You're dying just to read a description of something you've already heard! I do not fear death, heroes. I am not an individual. I am merely a pawn, a tool for the future. But are you willing to die at my hands? Just to save a complete stranger, just to obtain some ultimately meaningless documents? Are you humans really foolish enough to face me?!" The Chief bellows with laughter, shaking the entire party. Even Althior is slightly disturbed by the demon's rambling... This beast was dedicated to the heroes' demise, and even if they did win... Their agenda would not be hindered in the slightest.
-
Karie searches the are, finding nothing of use: it seems that the Oculoids thought ahead (or, more likely, the Blue one did when while the Red one obeyed his commands.) However, they failed to anticipate Althior's extensive collection, the Necromancer forming a temporary bridge of rock over the gap. The party traverses, treading carefully... Every tree could hide an oculoid, and now the party knew there were more lingering around the forest. The party was the forest's only hope of purging the demons from inside of it. The path grows more and more convoluted, twsiting and turning, sometimes even looping before the party discovers the correct route. The flora and fauna ge drearier and drearier as they walk, this part of the forest lacking the normal life the rest of it was bustling with. Finally, the party comes to a clearing, and they almost gasp at the sight: The change was drastic as they stepped into the makeshift arena. Even the path they travelled along was at least somewhat lush and green... Here, there was no traces of life at all. Everything had greyed and withered, turning sickly shades of green and grey. There wasn't a single trace of life in this demonic clearing: every tree, plant, and blade of grass had been sucked dry... The party could see the corpses of smal animals scattered about, sucked dry of their souls. Not a single living thing dwelled in this clearing anymore, the entire area withered beyond salvation. At their feet an intricate pattern of spirals and symbols lined the ground, the ink seeping into the dead turf and staining it black... An impressive assembly of oculoids were before them, all of them staring malignantly at the heroes. the party shrinks back as they take take in their morbid surroundings, the demons' chilling gazes shaking them to the core. Behind the horde of demons a man sits, unconscious: the awareness hexed out of him. Was that Mr. Keolo? The Oculoid Chief chuckles menacingly, his snickering growing into a chilling laughter as he notices the party's fear. His wounds had been healed from all of the life he had drained from this place, now brimming with power. He speaks, his words resonating around the dead forest. "So you have arrived, heroes."
