"We have company!" I whip out my bow, crining as the mummy rot once again takes hold. I aim, struggling to keep my arrow steady.... "Damn infection..." I mutter. "Elgar, you're a druid. Any idea where you could find a sunshine shimmer?" I attack the Lietunant and Sword B, back.- 418 replies

Of course if a questie/enough people objects to an element, I'm always willing to reevaluate something. I try to stay a flexible QM. You folks were correct: I was 100% wrong on the Tree Topple thing. However, my philosophy on this boss battle as a whole: I actually looked towards survival horror genre for this one. In most survival horror games, you are only given a limited number of ammunition to use throughout. You have to make every shot, every encounter count, or you're going to be in for a rough time. Here, the Amalgam has put some limits on the heroes. This battle was designed so the party had to make effective use of what they've got. Every round and action mattered - One poorly strategized round and the Amalgam could turn the tables. Even before battle order and who attacks who can be decided, the priority of which satellites can be allowed to live and which need to die have to be determined before the party can really do anything. Of course, even then, the battle is salvageable if they mess up - the party has quite a few Pheonix Essences, and a weapon that can nerf the Amalgam - but they must tread carefully. There really isn't a single round in the boss that can be uneventful. Something similar in concept and strategy could've been pulled off with no limitations, but it'd require even more fine print, even more passives, even more complications to get across what I wanted to. I streamlined the battle so it'd be easier/more enjoyable in general, but if anyobdy in 79 feels like their class is getting stepped on, don't be afraid to tell me. I am willing to make adjustments, and there is a portion of the battle where you will get to use your full arsenal freely. Sorry if that is a bit wall of text-y/rant-ish, but I'm just trying to share my intentions for this battle. Your QM is a human (or at least, a computer resembling one, as Danny would have you believe), so don't be afraid to talk to me.

"Hmph. I could've mentioned your sister, your mother, your father... But I chose to go easy on you. I figured mentioning these people would just dredge up your dreadful past, wouldn't it, you attention-seeking street urchin? Isn't it amazing? Even if - By some anomaly - You do win here... The pain I've caused will never really leave any of you, will it? The dead carry no scars... The living must carry them forevermore! Even if you beat me, I will still have completed my job and duty to the letter." >Althior uses a Grand Potion on Johon (back) >Johon VS Blitz Satellite A (back): Damage Critical Hit (8x3=24+25=49/2=25 damage) >Karie VS Blitz Satellite C (back): Miss Shield: Mass Illusion (A hexed, B not hexed, C hexed) >Althior VS Oculoid Amalgam (back): Shield Shield: Raise The Dead (3 Undead Satellites join Althior!) >Johon VS Haste Satellite (back): Special Damage Steal (No gold earned) The Oculoid Amalgam Devours: >Blitz Satellites A and C: 40 damage! >Blitz Satellite B: +1 Level >Haste Satellite: Hastened for 1 round! The ground seems solid enough, if not a bit sandy form being sucked dry by the Oculoid Chief.
-
I actually did that to beenfit Althior. This way he gets a minion he could actually use to fight off the Satellites rather then just get a multiplier. (A multiplier he would contantly have to put himself at risk with the Amalgam to use to its full extent, putting his army at risk anyway.)
-
It's a secret to everybody.
-
46. It was my second quest, and my first time hosting Advanced Classes. Needless to say it did not end well. I'm hoping you're enjoying 79 more than 46.

QM Note: I chucked Johon off a building once and trapped him and his party in a battle with a raving emperor while suspended in freefall, only a few turns away form falling to his doom. This boss is nothing compared to that.
-
QM Note: You'll see. The Amalgam cackles once more, a chilling laugh that riccocheted off the dead trees dotting the barren wasteland. it seemed to fill the entire arena in an instant, omnipresent. The afternoon sun casts an ominous silhouette over the party, both their aversary and his shadow towering over them menacingly. "What? And waste precious troops masquerading as your kind when we could be using our true forms? Oh, no, I was referring to my ability to hex, urchin. And we all know how much you hate that. I don't have to "assume" anything, little girl. I've read your mind like an open book, several times over. Isn't it amazing? How a being you hate knows you better than your own lover?!"
-
QM Note: This only applies when the Oculoid Amalgam is present, however. There will be portions of the battle where he is absent.
-
QM Note: You can only reap gold from enemy's that carry it. (That, and they were level 0) Luckily, the Oculoid Amalgam will constantly increase in Level, so you should be able to make a good amount of profit this boss fight.

QM Note: Hey, I'm the man who has to run that labyrinth of a battle order. >Johon VS Blast Satellite B (back): Steal Shield: Ravage (Blast Satellites A, B, and C destroyed) >Karie VS Blast Satellite E (back): Special Damage Special damage (Detonate: All heroes take 7 damage, disregarding row and SP... Mirrored back at the enemies, all enemies taking 7 damage disregarding row and SP. All satellites destroyed.) >Althior (Light) VS Oculoid Amalgam (back): Damage Hit (12+35=47x2=94-2=92 damage) >Johon VS Oculoid Amalgam (back): Special Damage Shield: Ravage (8+25=33/2=17-2=15 damage, 52 gold earned) >Althior (Light) VS Oculoid Amalgam (back): Meditate Critical Hit (12x0=0+35=35x2=70-2=68 damage) The Oculoid Amalgam Devours: >Nothing! The Oculoid Amalgam summons: >Haste Satellite, Blitz Satellite, Blitz Satellite, Blitz Satellite, Blitz Satellite The Amalgam's leagues of Satellites close in, hissing, ready to explode...Johon destroys three with a ravage. Karie rushes towards the others, ready to swat them down with her whip, but only manages to detonate it. However, now used to her witch powers, she reflects an explosion of equal might back at the enemy party, annihlating the rest of the Blast Satellites. The Amalgam looks on, amused. "Perhaps recruiting a street knave into our fold wouldn't be such a horrid idea... I was unaware they could do that. I'm assuming you wouldn't join me willingly, would you? HAH HAH HAH..." he laughs a horrid laugh, his eyes glowing with a bewitching glint. The party jerks their heads as they catch a glimpse, not wanting to lose themselves in that fleeting moment of weakness. Althior and Johon bombard the demon in retrbituion, the Amalgam summoning another wave of satellites. "Hm." Hey, at least you are almost guaranteed to not get blown up at all with that plan.
-
Maybe I'm just really passive about that, then. I think having the 1st/2nd highest WP weapon in the game contributes to that. I've always seen assassins as pest control, anyway. Also, sweet merciful batman Kintobor, that is the most conditional actions I've ever seen for a three person group.
-
QM Note: Skeleton decoys only absorb free hits. (The detonation I wouldn't classify as a free hit, because it doesn't utilize the enemy's level and it can still happen, even if targeted.) You could stall the Amalgam for a single round by putting one up, but that is pretty much the extent of it.
-
I was honestly under the impression that changing the special would get more backlash than changing the mirror! I suppose people prefer having an enemy altered instead of having themselves altered, which makes sense logically. Something I'll definitely keep in mind.
