  1. Just found this: LEGO Friends: Brickmaster - Treasure Hunt in Heartlake City Available in October. Too bad it doesn't come out sooner as this would have been an excellent parts pack for the current contest! Oh well. By the way, does anyone know when the summer wave will be available in the US? I'm guessing August, but just want to make sure. Also, has it been confirmed that the Advent Calendar is cancelled? Considering the popularity of this theme, it would be a pretty bad move from TLG.
  2. Great (and fitting) prizes indeed! One question: Can our category 2 entry include a vehicle, even if it doesn't fit onto the entry/baseplate itself? As in can we have a vehicle parked at the curb of our sidewalk?
  3. I think what he meant is: Why didn't/don't they use the 2x4x3 Lego brick which they use for some events and is pretty much the same size as the Duplo brick instead? I've been asking myself the same question. I can't imagine that it is easier to print on the Duplo brick than the System variant, and the latter would be much more useful to most people.
  4. Thanks. I was thinking of using the one from the Aztec Warrior, but I thought it would be too unoriginal, so I made my own, and I am quite happy with the result. True, I suppose. Thanks, glad you like it. Thank you!
  5. Actually, he reminds me more of the Mad Hatter. I think the two would get along quite well. Good job on this fig. Nice customization of the power armor, although the paint job could have been a tad cleaner. Good luck (although you probably don't need it, seeing as your entry already has a rabbit's foot )
  6. I too would have liked to see a return to the System Mickey sets, but oh well. Let's keep hoping that TLG will come to their senses and release some regular classic Disney sets.
  7. Thanks. It's from the South Coast Plaza Grand Opening exclusive: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?M=tls001

    Occupation thread

I thought this forum was about our hobby, which is all about NOT having to think or talk about work. Kidding aside, nice idea for a thread. I am a motion graphics artist, so I make all kinds of animations and visual effects. Right now I am freelancing and creating effects for mobile games. You can see my work on my website. I am always looking for work, so if you need any type of motion graphics or visual effects, just contact me.
  9. All my entries are now posted now, so please have a look. Good luck to everyone else who entered! There are lots of very nice entries out there!
  10. Liz the Punk Girl Elizabeth Constance Norrington, or Liz as her friends call her, is an ordinary teenage girl living in Gotham City. However, the term "ordinary" is used quite loosely when talking about citizens of a city such as Gotham. Growing up in a town crawling with costumed vigilantes and psychotic criminals has been rough on Liz. Her wealthy parents wanted to make sure that she doesn't become one of those criminal lunatics, so they were always trying to control her, establishing countless rules, keeping her under supervision, and basically forbidding her to do anything fun. Their overprotective method backfired however, since this only drove Liz to become more and more rebellious. Ultimately, she became a punk by wearing outrageous, dark cloths, heavy make-up, and spiky hair, and always speaking out against any ideals that her parents (or society in general) support. She may be a normal girl, but she strives to be seen as an individual and to make a difference in society nonetheless. Here you can see her impassionately working at her everyday job at Gotham's go-to store for all punks, goths, and emos, Goth Topic. Here are a side and back view of her. Note the purposely torn-off arm on her shirt and her unruly, brightly colored hair. Cost of Minifig: Purple Exo-Force hair: $1.01 Irina Spalko head: $0.80 Punk Rocker torso: $0.85 Light flesh right arm: $0.34 Black left arm: $0.11 Light flesh hands: $0.31 x2 = $0.62 Skater Girl leg assembly: $0.70 Total: $4.43 This fig was inspired by the term Gothamite, the title of this category, and was originally going to be a goth, a literal interpretation of the term, but ended up as a punk. Close enough, I guess. Let me know what you think!
  11. Thanks. I know what you mean, but that was the idea behind this character - he fills the hole that Batman leaves in Gotham's superhero department. Since Batman mostly works at night and is a rather dark type of hero, it leaves Gotham vulnerable during the day and makes it yearn for a more uplifting hero, and that's where Golden Eagle comes in! In other words, G.E. is the kind of hero Gotham needs and deserves. He wears it around his neck, so it's safe underneath his armor.
  12. Nice Clark Kent. I don't think it has been done before. Uh, yes, on the old Robin.
  13. The Golden Eagle Backstory: Rafael Aguilar is a young man who grew up in an orphanage in Gotham City. He has no memory of his parents. He spent his childhood among other orphans and poor people. One day the orphanage he was living at got robbed, causing it to operate on a very tight budget from then on. Seeing how unfortunate and miserable his friends were, Rafael dearly wished he could help them somehow, but he never had the means to do so, until one day he was approached by an old man, who told him that he was the descendant of a great Aztec warrior and that it was his destiny and duty to guard the ancient treasure of the Aztecs. The old man gave him a talisman and then disappeared. Rafael soon found out that the talisman had magical powers and could transform him into the mighty warrior who once wore it, giving him enhanced strength, sharpened senses, and a nearly impenetrable golden armor. The magic extending wings of the armor give him the ability to fly, and the helmet gives him access to the vast wisdom of the Aztecs. He realized that he could use these new powers to help the unfortunate citizens of Gotham, so he adopted the identity of the Golden Eagle, a.k.a. The Bright Knight or Eagle Knight. With his shiny armor and heroic image, he represents hope, justice, and all that is good. Unfortunately, the Aztec code forbids him to distribute any of the treasure, but he can use it to fight evil doers. And so, he keeps the amulet on him at all times and leaps into action whenever crime is afoot! Here you can see him in his secret hideout, the Eagle's Nest, where he keeps the Aztec treasure safe, which also doubles as his armory as it includes various golden weapons. Golden Eagle is skilled in the use of many weapons, including spears, swords, daggers, etc. The Eagle's Nest by Oky - Space Ranger, on Flickr Here's a side view: Golden Eagle Side by Oky - Space Ranger, on Flickr The only non-purist part of this custom fig are the wings which are made out of gold-colored paper. Golden Eagle Back by Oky - Space Ranger, on Flickr The Golden Eagle is basically the flip side to Batman. One is dark, the other is bright. One operates at night, the other at day. One fights evil by inducing fear, the other by being the personification of hope. Because of this, the two Gotham Knights don't always agree, but they have worked together on occasions. For example, Batman often calls upon Golden Eagle's help when he is attacked by Nighthawk, which usually results in a fight between the two birds of prey. Golden Eagle VS. Nighthawk by Oky - Space Ranger, on Flickr Cost of Minifig: Aztec Bird headdress: $1.66 New Robin head: $3.15 Pearl Gold Armor Breastplate with Leg Protection: $0.59 Poseidon torso: $1.57 Poseidon legs: $1.23 Pearl Gold Lightsaber Blade: $0.35 Pearl Gold Telescope: $0.22 Pearl Gold Flexible Spike: $0.73 Gold paper: $1.99 Total: $11.49 Fun facts: This character was inspired by the CMF Series 7 Aztec Warrior, who is referred to as an "Eagle Knight" in the online biography and is meant to be the ancestor mentioned in Golden Eagle's backstory. The name Rafael Aguilar is a reference to the term aguila real, which means golden eagle in spanish. This Golden Eagle is not to be confused with Golden Eagle, Hawkman's son. Thanks for reading, and please leave any comments you may have!
  14. What new cartoon?
  15. Fun thread! I guess I'll have a go. I hope these aren't too easy. 777
  16. Looks like Hawkeye got into Nick Fury's wardrobe. Nice entry, KDM! Although it's surprising to see you post a purist entry. I like the look and backstory of your villain, and the presentation is great as always! He seems like he would fit into Gotham nicely. If there's anything I would add to it, it would be a lightning piece for his electro-staff (since it already has a clip for it). Good luck in the contest!
  17. Thank you! Anything in particular that you like about it, or any suggestions for improvement? I understand your feeling, but let me assure you that I had no intention of stealing your character's name. It was just an odd coincidence that we both chose that name. I guess it's because it's one of the few cool-sounding names that haven't been used in the Bat-mythos yet. I already had everything ready to post (including the name) when you posted yours. I was considering calling my character something else (like ShadowHawk or Night Falcon) but I thought that Nighthawk still suited my character the best, and since yours was entered in a different category and is a completely different character (as pointed out by natelite in your topic) I decided to keep that name. I hope you can respect that and wont have any hard feelings. Your NightHawk is awesome by the way! Very well done! Yeah, that would be awesome. Thanks. Yes, it's completely purist. I didn't even use any stickers, so you can make the exact same fig with the listed parts! That would be hard to do without painting over the hawk face print. And yes, I'd like to keep it purist. Besides, I think the dark blue gives the outfit a nice accent and goes along well with the dark bley wings.
  18. True, you have indeed achieved that look, but most of that look comes from an already existing minifig. All I'm trying to say is that it could be customized a bit more to make him more unique, this being a minifig customization contest, by changing up some of the pieces. For example, you could use a different color of gloves, scarf, or hat. Or perhaps you could use a different leg assembly. I think Indiana Jones' or Han Solo's legs would work nicely since they also have holsters. These are just some suggestions and it's completely up to you if you want to use them. I'm just providing some constructive criticism. And I meant no offense when I said the sticker looked slapped on. I was merely referring to the fact that the star is crooked, whether it was intentional or not.
  19. Not bad. The idea of introducing a Western themed villain into the Bat-mythos is certainly interesting. However, I can't help but feel that your entry is a bit lacking, especially after your excellent Cat. A entry. It's basically just the CMF Bandit with a cape and a sticker slapped on his face. Also, the backstory is kind of unsatisfying. I know he is supposed to be mysterious, but it would be nice to at least know why this guy has chosen a desperado theme for himself in these modern times. It's a good start, but I think you can take it further.
  20. I agree with Cloney, I think your entry is great. One of the best so far, even! Your minifig looks very mime-like to me and there was no doubt about who the villain and who the henchman is. I like his backstory and the fact that you based it on an actual event from the Bat-mythos (the hospital explosion from TDK). What I like most about it, though, is his weapon. The idea of a villain who can take away half of your senses is quite disconcerting. It reminds me of the B:TAS episode "Blind as a Bat" where Batman was temporarily blind while fighting the Penguin. In that episode, not being able to see was quite a handicap for him, so I would love to see how he would handle being blind, mute, and deaf at the same time! However, Mutie has a point, it would be good if you would omit that last picture from your entry since it would make sense for The Mime not to speak, and it would make him an even more mysterious villain as well. Nice work, and good luck in the contest!
  21. Very cool, ADHO15! I'd have agree with JaseTJ and The Penguin, the version with the Cole ZX mask looks the best, since otherwise this is just Darth Maul with a different cape. I would make that the main version of the fig. Good luck in the contest!
  22. Sorry, but you'll have to wait a couple of months for it since there wont be another CB until the current contest is over. However, if you are so eager to recreate something from Revenge of the Sith, you could recreate one of the scenes featuring R2 or one of the other astromechs from that movie and enter it in the contest!
  23. The Nighthawk Backstory: Hank Nightingale was an ordinary man living a good life in Gotham City until one fateful night. He was working inside a Wayne Industries warehouse when suddenly Batman and the Joker crashed through the window, fighting. Hank watched them fight each other throughout the warehouse until one of them accidentally set off a huge explosion. The Joker and Batman were unharmed, but Hank was injured very badly. Batman saved him from the burning warehouse, but he didn't know that since he was unconscious. When he woke up later in the hospital, he found out in horror that he was now blind! Apparently the explosion was so bright that it blinded him permanently. He lost his job since he couldn't perform it anymore, and his life went down the hill from there. It was then that he swore revenge against Batman for taking his eye-sight. Billionaire philanthropist Bruce Wayne felt responsible for Nightingale's loss since the accident happened in one of his warehouses (and because it was him who caused it), so he generously offered him a job at Wayne Tech where he could help develop technological aids for handicapped people like him. Hank accepted the offer, and soon he developed a helmet with built-in hi-tech cameras which hooks up to the wearer's brain and gives them incredible vision. But instead of using it to help people, he decided to use it to get his revenge on Batman, whose image has been burnt into his mind and has been haunting him as it is the last thing he saw before he went blind. Once the first prototype was completed, Hank stole it, along with a winged jetpack. He designed a costume for himself that resembles a hawk since hawks are one of the bat's natural enemies. He now goes by the name Nighthawk and commits various crimes in order to get Batman's attention. In addition to his razor-sharp wings and vision, he also has sharp claws, much like his namesake. Also, his helmet can emit an ear-shattering shriek which renders his prey disoriented long enough for him to strike. These along with his ability to fly very fast and quietly, and his burning hatred for the Batman make him a very formidable foe! Here you can see him ambushing Batman while he oversees a money transfer to the Gotham City Bank (Click here to see it without the edited background). Nighthawk Ambush by Oky - Space Ranger, on Flickr Here's a front view of him with his wings in their folded position. Note the scars on his face from the explosion, his blank eyes, his pointy armor, and the straps holding the jetpack on his back. Nighthawk Front by Oky - Space Ranger, on Flickr He looks most like a hawk from the side. Nighthawk Side by Oky - Space Ranger, on Flickr In this back view, you can see his winged jetpack. Note the similarities to Batman's jetpack which (unbeknownst to the world) was also developed by Wayne Tech. Nighthawk Back by Oky - Space Ranger, on Flickr Cost of the minifig: Flying Mummy headdress: $1.59 Zolm head: $0.85 Dark bley neck bracket: $0.26 Spiky shoulder pads: $0.94 Racer X torso: $1.23 Wolverine claws: $0.42 x 2 = $0.84 CMF Series 7 Evil Knight leg assembly: $1.12 Black Brick, Modified 1 x 2 x 2/3 with Studs on Sides: $0.19 Light pearl silver bladed claw weapon: $0.20 Trans-Light Blue Round Plate 1x1: $0.03 x 2 = $0.06 Dark Bluish Gray Tile, Modified 1 x 1 with Clip: $0.04 x 2 = $0.08 Dark bley Hippogriff wings: $7.07 x 2 = $14.14 Total: $21.50 Hope you like it. I had the idea for this character while researching natural enemies of bats, and the villain Vulture from the Spider-Man comic/cartoons may have been an influence as well. Please note that sok117's Category B entry of the same name had no influence on this entry. Any comments or criticisms are welcome.
  24. Thanks for this excellent review, Cloney! It has exactly the type of entertaining and informative commentary that we know and love you for! I have one question though: Do the eyes and teeth of the zombie GITD too? I know it's not advertised on the box, but they look like the sort of GITD color. I think it would be pretty cool if they were. If only they would have had GITD printing in the Toy Story line...
  25. Wow, I knew Embo is a badass, but this is just... wow. Color me excited for this episode!
