[CONTEST] Return of the Classic Pirates - Vote Counting
F1stzz replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
I'd say it would be nice to have more options for voting as expanding the selection doesn't affect the total amount of winners in the end, but in theory may smooth out the votes distribution process -
@LetsBrick this is almost a perfect little playset: for it to be completely ideal I'd suggest replacing the shovel with 3841 pickaxe & figuring out the build for a little rock to be put in front of the crate, imitating the obstacle needed to be, well, "pickaxed" U know, so when the pushout mechanism is being used, the first thing moving away is a rock (hence imitating "breaking the stone with pickaxe" type of action) & only then the crate is revealed That would've been insanely cool & imo would've completed the idea perfectly

[ENTRY] 6273 Rock Island Refuge Remake
F1stzz replied to CollinsAnimationStudio's topic in Pirate MOCs
There's a simple way to introduce more colours into your build without changing the structure in its core (if you have the pieces or willing to acquire them, ofc): try swapping some of the light bluish gray rocks to dark bluish gray ones, apply various shades of green for rocks and plants as well (also, there are quite a few colours available both for 32607 & 10884 — it's certainly worth giving a go if you have any in your disposal); add any kinds of flowers (yellow & pink ones, etc.); add barnacles, seashells, sit random crabs on top of rocks — all of it will make the scene much more lively; putting some open crates with edibles (like bananas, baguettes, apples, pineapples, etc.) will do nicely too About the bridges tho: you don't need 'em to be brown, cuz you have your ratlines in dark tan: u can just use 30377 or 2540 (or both even) in dark tan & that'll create a harmonious contrast- 26 replies

Totally, I'm rather hoping for some useful theme-related parts in there

Rumors are circling around about the release of 40710 "LEGOLAND Pirate Splash Battle" GWP in January. As the name suggests, it's most probably gonna be based off the eponymous LEGOLAND ride in Billund. Given that, I'd assume it's about to be a LEGO House exclusive, but we totally need to wait for more info on the matter 🤔

Thoughts on a one of POTC set coming back in the ICONS theme
F1stzz replied to Legoman123's topic in LEGO Pirates
Cuz Tolkien's greatest creation has always been relevant, I suppose? I mean, LOTR universe has a lot more layers to it than simply being a movie based on a Disneyland ride There's a constant buzz around LOTR: first of all, the source material in books gathers more & more audience all the time; quite a few excellent movies were made; count all the videogames too; action figures have never been out of production — long story short, Tolkien's universe is alive & well, despite some streaming platforms cheaply trying to capitalize on it, lol. It will pretty much always be relevant, bcuz it has a great depth to it, millions of fans worldwide (and counting) & most importantly — u don't need "another movie" to keep this universe alive and relevant in the first place. It's sustainable in itself. PoTC, on the other hand... Well, once in a decade a film needs to be made in order to remind the audience that "PoTC is still around", kek. And nobody would even care about the franchise if Johnny Depp is not in it, & dude is pushing his 60s rn, mind u, not to mention everything that happened between him & Disney. PoTC wasn't even meant to be a franchise, but if Disney along with Jerry Bruckheimer wanted to make this thing truly grand — they should've put in a whole lot more effort than simply stamping random movies one after another. Now the opportunity to make PoTC a "larger than life" type of series is long gone, while LOTR has been IT for quite a bit longer than 20 years. -
Thoughts on a one of POTC set coming back in the ICONS theme
F1stzz replied to Legoman123's topic in LEGO Pirates
This is such a beaten horse of a topic, tbh Nothing would be a better UCS/ICONS set for PoTC than Black Pearl or Flying Dutchman. I highly doubt we'd ever get any of those, unless the 6th movie happens & brings Davy Jones back with his vessel, which I, as a diehard fan of the franchise, sincerely wish won't be the case. Then again, it's Disney's choice to decide if they want to promote PoTC with LEGO sets once more or not. Given that we only had 71042 for a limited period back in 2017 to go along with DMTNT, I can see Disney simply not considering it next time at all. Frankly, I don't even consider PoTC franchise to be relevant at this point. There are lots of reasons to suggest so, but that's a whole different convo. -
That's some hilarious stuff right here, lmao, I love it The tricorne is insane, it feels like a grown man could wear it no problem, lol

Lol, this way the crane, being a huge structure already, gets even bigger, but at least starts to make more sense I'd simply make the whole tower twice as wider and the crane twice as smaller (perfect example here by markus19840420). But for people who are fine with everything about the crane design in 10320 except unreachability of the winch for minifigs — absolutely, your suggestion is probably the easiest & most efficient way to fix the issue

Most definitely, m8, one simple move lifts the overall aesthetics up on a different level -
TY for the photo, even tho quality of lighting makes it a bit problematic to try and spot the differences, but I trust your word on it, m8 Also, good point about the difference between the amount of space taken by shirts on both prints — I think if TLG tried to do things the way it was done back in 2015, that "week white" would've drawn less attention as less of the colour itself would've been present on the print. I mean, as we have the pic of both figures standing side by side, imagine that black+golden design of stripes on 2023 version being applied on 2015 minifig — the only white you end up having on 2015 print in this case would basically be belts & those tiny bits of shirt visible under the coat. That would've been a better solution for TLG to keep an option of saving some costs on white colour density (if they're so desperate about it), while not making it so "in our face" like it's done with current figs. Not that anybody actually cared though
-
Nope, not at all, that's exactly what I've been saying constantly for about a couple of months at this point. The only thing I'm struggling to grasp is why people start actually paying attention to the flaws only AFTER they've already paid a hefty sum for the product, when pictures & reviews have been around all this time for us to study and make all the right conclusions from the get go

LEGO 10320 Eldorado Fortress - MOC / MOD Thread
F1stzz replied to CAESARBLACK's topic in LEGO Pirates
I'm actually thinking about it & even more: I'd like to find a way to incorporate those trademark teardrop-shaped gunports into a sloped wall structure. I mean, real forts had their walls angled a bit starting from foundation & up to the middle at least, so that cannonballs would kinda be ricocheting off of them (the principal is similar to the construction of a post WWII tank armour, "structural angles of inclination" & all that — here's a great example displaying my point by eddo.lego). I really want to take a chance & try to merge the OG design with my own vision of how the defensive walls of the fortress should look like -
Imperial Guard Shako with Red Plume and Gold Emblem Pattern
F1stzz replied to zinnn's topic in LEGO Pirates
There should be TLG's trademark engraved on the inner side of the shakos, if I'm not mistaken (EDIT: I'm not — both 2009 shakos in my disposal & ones that came with 21322 have TLG's engraved trademarks) — is it there? The printing does look perfectly fine tho Also, I agree: it is lovely to have 'em printed shakos on these new soldiers Too bad we don't get those in the set for the premium asking price -
[MOC] The Skull Island - Remake of 70411: Treasure Island
F1stzz replied to zinnn's topic in Pirate MOCs
Best post in the entire topic, apart from the pics of the fantastic build itself Bring it on, m8 INSANELY fine, lad I can already invision my "Barracuda Shipyard" diorama being expanded with your take on the Skull Island Eagerly waiting for the live pics -
With the amount of negative feedback about the printing quality on the figs, I'm getting convinced that in this case it's not just a defect present in a minor percentage of sets, but rather a deliberate shortcut taken by TLG to cheapen out the production at max. Having high quality prints is too much for a premium $220 product within the ICONS line, I guess. Thanks for the pics, really appreciate the comparison & I have a request, if you don't mind: if you have some free time & 2015 Bluecoat Soldiers, can you please make a comparison between those & 10320 minifigs and provide some photos? Just to see how striking is the difference if there's any 🤔

LEGO 10320 Eldorado Fortress - MOC / MOD Thread

BTW, gents, since Marooned Marin has already proposed the Warty Crab as a nice accompaniment to 10320, I think there's another GREAT idea for those of you who own a 31109 Pirate Ship (or maybe just planning to get it ) — I present to you the Imperial Clipper (the creator of this MOC didn't name the ship, so I took my liberties here ), courtesy of sir_bricksafol I'm amazed by his execution of the Imperial Soldiers insignia on sails & I really think this model could serve as a great source of inspiration for 31109 MOCs and possibly Imperial fleet building (thankfully the Pirate Ship is still available ) -

For those who wondered how 10320's looks would've changed if it had some more yellow to it — capt.dark.shark is happy to satisfy your interest Just notice how a single colour swap for a front cannon platform can positively affect the overall appearance of the set. It's a simple cosmetic change — but it smoothes out the whole colour palette & brings this remake much closer to the classic exactly in the area where it's needed -

Here's a nice little upgrade for the governor's office made by ohmbricks Nothing too intricate, but imo this particular area now carries a whole lot more purpose I'd make this one completely monolithic with a removable roof, but then again — my plans for the main tower section are different, while the example provided by ohmbricks should be going along with the modularity of the original build quite well, I guess -
I'd go with the Redcoats as 2009 Pirates reboot was my introduction to the theme

It really is, imo, but I've seen only a couple of such comments, so hopefully it's not representative Here's the review: You can check the comment section to see what I'm talking about. The overall mood seems rather rebellious to me, lol, but I'm using the built-in translator to go through everything, so maybe it's just a warped impression. I've seen another guy with a bigger subs count to seemingly have better feelings about the set, but the audience also shares mixed opinions in the comments:
