  1. One thing I'd add is that if it happens that you'd have to sell your ship – the value difference between LEGO BP & BlueBrixx QAR on the aftermarkets won't even be comparable in a couple of years, let alone a decade.
  2. This is a good take on the set. I have MOC Your Bricks version of the 2020 BSB, so I knew instantly what I'm looking at when the first better quality 10365 pictures have leaked I have the aforesaid ship, which I've made 3-masted, it's able to carry 2 rowboats on the upper deck (not on top of each other, btw, they're separated by the main mast) & added a string or two of rigging – yes, I can access the lower deck via removing said rowboats, the upper deck panels they're sitting on, the main mast & the entire stern section. Yes – it's a pain to do Yes, I have sleeping bunks in the middle, 10210-like galley in the back, a gun deck, a lil armoury in the front & whatnot. And allat has been sitting behind the glass on top of a build called "Barracuda Shipyard" for 3 years now & I'm only bringing it out once a year for some light cleaning It's not the fact people can play with these accessible interiors of their sets that makes em happy – it's a mere thought they have such interiors that does But in reality, once you're fine with what you have or done to the insides – you'll never touch those again, most likely ever (unless an inspiring MOC pops up randomly & the building starts all over or you're a Stop Motion creator, for example). Adults "play" with the set by getting to build it & rearrange it to their liking – and imo, 10365 provides plenty of such opportunities. Even the technic cannon mechanisms are surprisingly well-hidden, allowing for a decent imitation of a proper cannon deck – something only 10210 has truly ever attempted. Now, what is there not to like about a modern brick-built cannon design? Didn't notice anyone bashing Fortuna's cannon models, in fact people have been adopting & tweaking such designs for several years at this point, because it turns out you can get a convincingly looking full armament WAY cheaper like that. Make no mistake about it – TLG simply wouldn't allow for 10365 to have 16 shooting cannons, we've never got more than 6 per boat in all of the history. I'd much rather have a decent gun deck footprint full of nicely looking brick-built cannons & then swap em for shooting ones myself by using those I have in my possession than TLG would give us 4-6 shooting cannons on a tiny gun deck for the same price and people would have to create ways to lengthen said gun deck in order to accommodate more cannons, as opposed to just putting shooters in the holes previously meant for brick-built ones. 10365 is probably the first ever pirate ship to somewhat successfully try & combine the representative accuracy of a display model with a scale and functionality of a play model – this shouldn't go unnoticed, imo. The price of $300 would certainly help in appreciating the decision making of the designers much more, because yes – it is quite silly to blabber about modifying/rebuilding/swapping etc when we're talking about a set that's priced way above $350.
  3. I don't – 4184 was the set that punched me straight into the dark ages which lasted for nearly a decade On the point about the sails: their curvature primarily depends on the positioning of the beams, but also on the shape of the sail itself. You could straighten out the sails on the OG to look exactly like they do on the new model by just making a couple of adjustments. Jay does mention in the comments that we'd be able to "tilt the yards slightly to make the sails look more curved", but ofc I'd assume not to a degree seen on the 2011 model – for that the structure of em masts has to be changed, I reckon, gotta put the beams a bit forward & slightly closer to each other.
  4. Next year is the 20th anniversary of Dead Man's Chest, and something that's been brought to my attention, in light of the rumours about PotC getting the LotR treatment for the next couple years, is that TLG might apply a LotR logarithm to those potential releases too: Rivendell was the place where the journey of the Fellowship started – so that was the first set of the new LotR wave, in the same way the Curse of the Black Pearl is the first movie that kickstarted the PotC franchise – so (((Captain Jack Sparrow's Pirate Ship))) is the starting point for the new wave of PotC sets; then after Rivendell LEGO's done a dream set that's never been produced before – Barad-dûr, so following this logic the Flying Dutchman could be a follow-up to the Black Pearl; then TLG remade the Shire, hence we could potentially see the Queen Anne's Revenge remake for PotC etc. Given how popular LEGO sailing ships usually are, it'd be plausible to assume TLG could indeed make a trifecta of PotC pirate ships if the rumours become a reality – but honestly, with such a pricing for 10365 it's getting tough to believe we'd see a follow-up set
  5. Tiago's done a fair job & basically voiced the same concerns that are circling around the web, tho the main point of these reviews is to showcase the set live, more or less in a natural lighting, so we can pick up on the quality of the prints & some of the more intricate details of the build not shown on the promo pics. And it seems that some of the figs don't have as detailed of a print on the back as they do on the front, especially Marty. The funniest bit I've spotted so far is that technic sections seem to use a lot of Pearl Gold ingots, while the treasure chest itself only has a Pearl Gold cup in it, lol – that just screams "gut the F out of it all" to me I adore how rebuildable the entire front & middle sections look, accommodating some living quarters & shooting cannons won't be a big problem indeed as even with the cannon mechanisms in place there's still more free space inside than anybody could've imagined imo, which will allow for easier rearrangements. The stern section is where it truly gets tricky depending on what you'd want to change.
  6. First hands-on reviews have been dropped by Ashnflash & Tiago Catarino, I believe there'll be more to come throughout next few days. EDIT: the first speed build of the set is posted by AustrianBrickFan
  7. Mike Psiaki appears to be the lead designer of 10365 – he's the man behind the Lion Knights' Castle, Galaxy Explorer remake, Saturn V & was a part of the Titanic & Rivendell teams. That'd explain why the hull shaping is so immaculate, TLG did assign one of their absolute best Seniors to it
  8. For scalpers, that is. I believe I've seen the info about the Compass GWP only being available for 6 days initially (12-18 September) – who in their sane mind would wish for a GWP to include a couple of most desirable figures & be available for a starting week only as an addition to an already abominably expensive set? It's a shame we didn't get a couple more figs with the Pearl, but thank God they're also not locked behind a limited GWP that won't even be accessible worldwide!
  9. Don't forget about the 973pb5154c01 This torso was literally waiting for this moment
  10. It would certainly require some overhauls inside, but it won't be too much of a problem in terms of technicality, given the main section of the hull still seemingly follows the footprint of 21322, so for the most part I'd presume it'd be possible to get away with applying PoBB interior techniques to 10365. If you've got the parts from the OG Pearl & 21322 (adding some pieces from the stand of 10365 to the mix will also do), I'd say transforming the insides wouldn't be as hard as it seems – would just require some planning.
  11. Despite the lack of detail, the shaping of the hull & the arrangement of the sails on 10365 is not only superior to any LEGO Pirates ship released to date (and most of the playable MOCs at that) – it's also a great, for the most part movie-accurate representation of the Black Pearl. From the looks of it, modifying the exterior is not a big deal, adding the tiles on the front wouldn't be a problem in the slightest – it's a matter of adding a dozen of parts. Same with mini statuettes, the ornament of the stern etc. The design you've shared on the picture doesn't even come close, frankly – if the stern was redesigned, nobody would be able to tell this model has anything in common with the Black Pearl aside from the colour scheme. Just grab the new set on a sale or with a discount & start from there, add all the bells & whistles to your vision & liking – you'll end up with a much better model this way, especially if there would be many MOCs based on it down the line to draw the inspiration from.
  12. Official LEGO account on Instagram replying to a comment asking "why Captain Jack Sparrow's Pirate Ship and not the Black Pearl?": "The name reflects an internal creative decision by The LEGO Group and The Walt Disney Company". Make what you will out of it
  13. Was precisely on point with the dimensions & Barbossa having a ghostly faceprint Nice silhouette, interiors are nothing to write home about – can't wait for speed builds & reviews on YT to get an idea what's going on inside the inaccessible areas, 100% gonna mod the hell out of it Cute compass, btw, welcomed addition for everyone lucky to have the LEGO store nearby, I'll definitely be getting it off BL once it's available. Not gonna yap about the price: there's nothing I could add that has not been already discussed, it'd be easier for me personally to stomach this price tag as I'm a Pirates collector only, but if you wanna get the Black Pearl alongside some other nice hefty priced sets & then perhaps spend additionally to mod it yourself – yea, I totally feel your pain
  14. Depends on the perspective really. I personally buy exclusively LEGO Pirates/PotC sets & stuff that goes along with em thematically, so I'm not even bothered as much by the price tag of (((Captain Jack Sparrow's Pirate Ship))) as it'd be the first LEGO set I'll be getting since Eldorado Fortress remake But such a model is indeed an enormous blow to the budget of every AFOL collecting few themes at once or just generally buying LEGO sets of liking.
  15. The murmur on the streets is that PotC franchise is about to receive the Lord of the Rings treatment by offering a big set each year from now on, with the Black Pearl essentially getting a D2C release now to test the waters of "is this fanbase still around?". If 10365 does well – this model of yearly PotC releases may absolutely be put into works.
  16. Barbossa doesn't have a single blue element in his clothes apart from the bandana in the trilogy & specifically in the first movie. Dark Blue for his coat or vest, or anything else besides the bandana would be a total miss. The silhouette does seem a bit squarish, I suspect the height of the main mast might be close to matching the length of the ship.
  17. Nowhere near as wild as almost $400 tho €30 could be written off as Disney tax – $80 goes way over that. Then again, who knows how many pieces the stand itself took – I'd assume without the stand this is effectively a $250-280 set.
  18. I have a suspicion that a second "skeleton" faceprint for Barbossa might be hiding behind the new hairpiece. The set is based on the first movie after all & Barbossa can be spotted holding the Aztec coin in his hand on one of the pics – it'd be really cool for him to have that ghostly faceprint akin to Jack's 2011 Isla de Muerta figure, I hope that'd be the case indeed. There's a sash, but I think it looks neither yellow nor grey – for me it appears to be brown. Fortnite version got the sash colour right, but that variant also has the bandana coloured in Dark Tan, whereas in the movies it's always been blue – you win some, you lose some In Euros it's rumoured to be 330. "380" is the USD price tag for the USA market, at least that's what I've been seeing reported so far.
  19. IKR, my spaciest shelf allows for like 65cm in height at best Keep in mind tho – the measurements on the box seemingly include the stand, the ship itself without it gotta be a tad lower.
  20. It reads to me as 64x64cm or 25x25 inches length/height. Could be wrong, ofc, but coincidentally such measurements would also almost match MOC Your Bricks variant of 2020 BSB (the modified version of which is in my possession), so I think it's realistic to expect this as a minimum.
  21. It's 6 hulls: 5 middle sections & 1 rounded front. Yeah, they've seemingly opted for 4697b instead of using the mini statuettes for some reason, tho it'd be a relatively easy fix.
  22. Seemingly I was wrong about flintlocks – on the newer pics it does look like they're Pearl Dark Grey, which is not a problem as it's still a great colour for the piece. New Aztec coin is indeed printed & amazingly looking – can already imagine all the Isla de Muerta MOCs with literally hundreds of these New compass piece can be spotted, still like the 2017 version more, but cool to have this one for variety. Not sure why new Jack's hat is glossy (at least it seems to be so), cheapens the look of a new mold a little – otherwise fine figure, except I can imagine that probably the white on the sash would look brighter on the torso & a bit more washed on the legs due to the former being a white base & the latter being Medium Blue (or perhaps even Sand Blue at last, we'll see) base. I simply can't comprehend the choice of print for Cotton's torso, but speaking of Barbossa – I'm really digging his new design overall, ngl, even if he does miss that yellow sash (the OG fig missed the scabbard, for example, & nobody complained much). He also seems to have kinda Sauron-ish colour to his coat – if that's the case, it'd be awesome Now, the Black Pearl itself only looks better without the stand Like Cehnot mentioned, the moddability is promising here, which we all suspected to be the case & it's great. Few things I want to point out: the capstan is seemingly a 21322 technique reuse & is canonically integrated into the main mast The removable deck is clearly TLG getting inspired by Marooned Marin's design, I don't care what anybody else would say Cannon ports in their closed position look nice & non-intrusive. I don't quite get what's going on with the use of 1x2 log pieces on both sides of the 6th cannon, could've gone with the regular bricks? Looking at the masts from the back, I can't say I'm totally okay with their arrangement – have a closer look at the crow's nest area in the middle & you'll get what I'm on about, I'll wait for better angles to understand what's truly happening there before judging it. Though a new flag seems to be fabric just like the sails, btw, which is insanely good I could nitpick for a lil longer about the exterior & naming, but so far, given the price & how moddable the entire thing seems to be, this set looks 8/10 being the Black Pearl/PotC set & probably 9/10 being one of the nicest pirate ship designs ever produced by TLG (tho I still would love to see the clean mast beams, but I can now agree with the argument about posing the figures on top of em since, funnily enough, this is EXACTLY what TLG did for the promo photos, lol). I didn't expect much after 2011, but damn – she does look fine in both play & display set form
  23. Jack's second faceprint has already been leaked – the skin tones on every body part are matching indeed
  24. Couldn't care less about that theme as a whole
  25. I mean, it literally is a technique taken straight from that time period. Some may find it cute, I personally don't believe it belongs in such an expensive display (!) set. Nothing has been officially announced by TLG in regards of this set just yet.
