Yea, 1x1 pieces is exactly what's been cut down, mate, nothing else happened, bingo. The previous ship was fun to build (zero idea where the nonsense about that build being uninteresting is coming from), was bigger and more detailed at that & cheaper, funnily enough. Still is cheaper on average, btw. Now that would've been amazing – imagine the alt builds in a form of an outpost or some sort of a Lagoon Lock Up tavern style build. Maybe reintroduction of the Bluecoat torsos or new Redcoat designs, or even Conquistadors – 3 Imperial figures & one pirate or 2/2 for more play scenarios. That would've been great & would've went extremely well with the 31109, the stocks of which can still be found all around. But all TLG did was roll out a noticeably smaller, less detailed, more bland & inferior in shaping (historical accuracy wise) copypasta that looks like a beefed up and glorified Pirate Ship Playground at $10 over the initial (and in separate cases current) MSRP of 31109 6 years later – "be glad you've got what you've got" as in the new pirate torso prints that come alongside this release -

Speaking of Bricklink & the aftermarkets in general: the fact that 31109 Pirate Ship was one of, if not the longest lasting set in the Pirates history with 5+ years of shelf life means that as of today there are hundreds of em listed at an equal or lower price than that of the upcoming Iconic Pirate Ship. Hell, not all the local stores worldwide have ran out of the 31109 stocks just yet I imagine, a couple of retailers in my country certainly haven't. So people could literally get the better & bigger build (which already has tons of MOCs for it posted all around) for less than $99 right now locally – and then pick up the new figs some time later after they become available at PAB or elsewhere, if that's the only part of the new set they're interested in. -

Pretty much my thoughts on this, yea. At least the previous ship at its starting MSRP of $100 was colourful (being colourful was not something out of the ordinary for the ships of the Golden Age of Piracy era), somewhat ornate & its shaping did resemble an early/mid 17th century vessel, albeit its minifigs were nothing to brag about (although the blue captain's outfit has indeed debuted with that exact set & was exclusive to it at the time) – the new one, however, doesn't even look the part & has noticeably shrinked in comparison. Sitting at $110 6 years later it has minifigs going for it (even tho I'm not sold on the black torso one – again, looks less like a proper pirate & more like a kids entertainer) and the alt builds are okay – but honestly who pays $110 for 2 sloops sized like a standard LEGO rowboat + a bulk of spare pieces, lol. I could assemble those myself from my own spares & spend virtual zero on the set. Despite people trying to downplay the quality of the 31109 alt builds, those did provide the parts for expanding the land base of 21322 PoBB with a nice tavern (if you happened to have both sets) and the treasure island was a big & visually striking playground too. Then having 2 Pirate Ship copies would grant you 2 different builds that were of a similar bigger size & working well with each other: ship + treasure island or ship + tavern port. The Iconic Pirate Ship, however? It remains to be seen just how well different builds would go together to justify spending another $110 on a second copy. I could imagine the 3 ships would do okay next to each other as a mini fleet, but 2 sloops and a tower or the big ship + tower? Looking at those combos I imagine it'd be hard to believe one has payed $220 for that. EDIT: I've only just noticed it's actually $110 -

So it's essentially 7cm lower, shorter & narrower than the previous one. Shooting LEGO cannon is around 6,5cm long & can get roughly up to 7,5cm long with the spring pulled, so the space under the top deck is about to be quite cramped. I'm repeating myself here, but the main build overall just looks like your typical ship props found in amusement parks or kindergartens, it ain't a true beauty by LEGO's post-2019 ship building standards. Perhaps converting it into some kind of a 15th century Newport Merchant Ship would do it proper justice, because I just don't see how this hull shaping & its silhouette overall passes as the Golden Age of Piracy vessel – it's essentially a Columbus Era looking build with a more advanced sailing armament, in that regard it's inferior to the 31109 Pirate Ship. -

Downgrade across the board outside of the minifigures amount (so far torso prints are giving off the amusement park feel, new print on the bicorne is welcomed), which was totally expected given the rumoured piece count. If this one's gonna be $100 – nah, previous one was head & shoulders above design-wise. The alt builds are cute tho, won't be surprised if they turn out to be actually better thought out than main for the price. -
[OFFICIAL] Pre-Orders for 910059 Privateer Frigate Fortuna HAVE ENDED

The custom cloth sails designed after said templates are already available at BrickStickerShop They also have all kinds of replica sails & stickers for pretty much every Pirates/PotC set ever produced, as well as some customs for MOCs -
It's a damn shame this coincides with Bricklink closing operations in 35 countries by the end of January – it always feels good to support the creator via directly pre-ordering the set, but oh well Legitimately, this is the best treat the LEGO Imperials have gotten in 21st century. This build is out of this world cool, preserving playability & combining it with some outstanding advanced building techniques is what LEGO sailing ships should all be about in the era post Barracuda Bay – and this is a prime example of the ongoing evolution. The swappable stickers for the flags & nameplate is just amazing to have as well Can't wait to pay double-triple the price on local secondary markets just cos TLG couldn't care less these days – but will absolutely be getting it regardless, Fortuna/Minerva is a definitive must have

The hat is small, but is put on the wrong character, I guess it'd look fine on Sloth as he was the one wearing it in the movie. -

Titanic is also a crazy good entry from him, he truly has a unique feel on how to make some fine angles, sloping & shaping overall If anything, I hope TLG keeps him assigned to PotC ships moving forward, the techniques are only gonna get better & in the case of the Flying Dutchman's front section crazy angle work will come in handy big time -

I second pretty much every word I've also seen someone post a comparison pic featuring the 10365 BP & QAR earlier – quite frankly, an almost complete absence of a defined forecastle does 4195 no favours, not to mention a non-existent upper deck. We truly are spoiled by the revolutionary design of 21322 Barracuda The part I'm the most happy about is indeed how accurately 10365 manages to recreate the silhouette of the Black Pearl while staying completely within your "bigger playset" type of scale (it's only a section longer than 2020 Barracuda & is pretty much identical in its hull length to the 10210 Imperial Flagship). You can easily mod in the ornamentation of various kinds, can add all the skylights, bells & whatever other whistles – but getting the hull shape, the silhouette right & make it as sleek & seamless as possible is no ordinary task, which Mike Psiaki's team has totally knocked outta park here -

I've seen reports about 10365 going out of stock in local stores of Australia & New Zealand, so I guess my words about the current pricing of the set being a hindrance for it to become a hit can be scratched entirely It's good for the theme, ofc, but oh boy – if they do plan on releasing the Flying Dutchman next, get ready for that $500 price tag. Meanwhile, @huguberhart has posted Captain Redbeard’s Pirate Ship with hull extension from Black Pearl on Reddit – looks (and sounds, lol) absolutely brilliant -

At last, it indeed appears to be around 59cm/23inch Seen it in the comments on Reddit & was also confirmed by the Korean reviewer 2 weeks ago, but given it's a Korean video it only got recommended to me by YT today – just in timing In the same vid there's also a size comparison between 10365 & 21322 Barracuda ship – I wish the guy would take the Pearl off the stand, but it's the only comparison between the two I've stumbled upon throughout all this time, so I guess it'll do for now
