Toyota MR2 Mk1 MOC
zonoskar replied to midlife crisis's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It's a good looking MOC. I wonder if any of the curved slopes can be used for the front fenders, like 7217 or 85970. And it should be in red, somehow I associate MR2 with red. -
Working on the Extra Pimped parts list when you do have the original set and want to build in in the BLO color: https://rebrickable.com/users/zonoskar/lists/429543/ But there are many pieces in red in @astyanax's MOC that are not available in BLO, like the bionicle eye piece, the flexible hoses and 1x13 liftarm. So I'm not sure if I'll be building this MOC, also because the pieces from the above list are going to be around 200 euro on top of the Lego set. The MOC uses a few expensive pieces like the DBG panels in the dash (6.5 euro per piece) and the exhaust is also 20-25 euro, maybe I can brick-build this piece. I just got the set, so I'm building it over the next few weeks and keep an eye on the diff with the extra pimped build.

Weird, I have the same list of missing parts. Could it be different moulds? How do you compare a list to a set? I want to build this in the BLO color of the original set :) Found it. I'll just delete all the red pieces. /edit: Why did @astyanax include piece 6797? That's a 100 euro piece new and 25-30 euro used. Did you have that lying around (from set 8465)? Any alternatives? Also for the red mudguard 67141 there is no BLO alternative, only the 80284, which is 2 studs shorter. How to fill the gaps? Just follow the Lego model?

I wonder why they didn't announce the Red Bull car. Maybe it's not coming? -

The DRS flap seems to be connected with tan pins (no friction). Could we get a mechanism that deploys the DRS instead of a manual operation? -
From the leaked pictures, the new F1 sets appear to have wider rear tires. Pretty please... Or are my eyes deceiving me?

Yeah, I painted mine :) Not something normal people do. But apparently there is a custom sticker sheet you can get to fix the color issue. I also updated the front a bit. Not the MOD from Lucas. The bottom doesn't touch the wings anymore, but I kinda like this look. It def not correct for the car. Oh, and if you don't like non-Lego pieces or 3D printed parts, you can get old wider tires (https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=6594#T=C&C=11) that have the same diameter as the normal tires that are on the DeLorean for example. They just have treads. And the only rims that fit the color scheme are white (but I painted mine, again not what normal people do). They're about 3 euro per piece incl rims.

I revisited this set a few weeks ago, sorry for the huge topic kick. Initially I didn't think it was a bad set, just a bit unfinished. But I completed the bed and did a full recolor of the set. I like it now way better. It still has the silly pendulum axles in the rear and no suspension in the front though. The bed was so easy with very few parts, I'm astounded that Lego themselves didn't bother including it.

42172 - McLaren P1

So the nose should have been 2 studs longer. I still think Lego still did a better job than Bruno, but they also had more (newer) parts available. Must be me then, not a real petrol head, not a Lego fanboy as I hate all the unicorn vomit inside of these cars. -

I don't get the fuss about the front. To me both look similar. I wouldn't want to trade the nice wheel arches for the flimsy flex axles, nor the sturdy hood and bonnet for more flimsy ones, so I'm glad Lego made this choice. I still need to get the set though, so I'm basing this on internet images alone. -

There seems to be a new piece in the suspension, check this video @ 4:09 It looks to be a trailing arm of some sorts. -

I did mess up there. But the statement remains true for all the other pieces. Why are there lime axle pins in there? Why does every cog have to be a different color? I could live with all pieces indicating a function being red or blue or yellow. -

OMG, why does Lego have to make pieces in those weird colors. Even the new suspension arms are in yellow. WTF Lego? -

I think I'm going to hold off on buying this set until 2026. This could be the last of the 1:8 supercars and in that case I will get it. But if in 2026 another lackluster supercar comes out, I'm done with the series. Availability isn't going to be a problem if the Sian is any example. -

I hope the door handles actually operate door locks and not just be cosmetic. So far I like the set. More so than the McLaren P1 I must say. -
People in the Netherlands can find the printed tires on marktplaats.nl for around 10 euro + shipping. They look great. I found that RAL 9010 matches the Lego white almost perfect, so after a little effort i got this. Still have to do the nosejob :)
