I honestly can't understand how you'd get so worked up over this, but if you are now happy everyone wins right.- 2,976 replies

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
hoppa replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Newsflash: Lego knows this is not historically accurate. This, in the end is a toy, it is meant for imagination, playing. You know what is also probably never seen in an actual castle? A hidden hideout in the gatehouse where soldiers of an enemy faction live. Lego has always wanted their toys to be for boys and girls and representation simply helps. If my daughter sees an awesome female knight (that may have hardly existed in reality) she'll connect to the set quicker, simple as that. So Lego chose playability and representation over historical accuracy. If we call that woke I love them for it. If mu daughter wants to play being a knight she will damn well play at being a knight.- 2,976 replies

As long as that are the kind of choices some of us get to make, when are we going to spend hundreds of dollars on Lego, I think we're still in a good place.- 2,976 replies

That is so cool! Love it. -
Really cool, even looking at it for minutes I can't figure out how you did the angled beams, especially the top and bottom of the beam itself!

Latest impact of other themes on historic themes
hoppa replied to Wardancer's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Hi all, a question, where are you all finding this pre release imagery? It seems like you all know what people mean when out of the blue they talk about unreleased sets but hardly ever are images or links shared. Current example is about that viking set, but I saw this earlier. This is not a complaint by the way, just curious what I am missing? -
That is extremely impressive. My first thought was that it might be a bit bland from the outside, but it is so realistic and every second you watch you see more details. Really gorgeous, also from the inside.

Wow, I can't even imagine the amount of hours that went into designing and building that. Very pretty design and that you added so much detail to such a large building is astonishing. Great build, quite literally.

Rant: the trend of hoarding LEGO and the pivot to showpieces
hoppa replied to globalbrick's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I am not sure what would be wrong with building for display. What I do find a tad distasteful is some of these YouTube channels with their monthly haul videos stressing that they, again, spend 3000 dollars. That is not unique to Lego however and can be found a million times over in different areas, that is just social media and online content for you. I am not even sure this is not just me being jealous :) -
Lego City 2022 Rumours, Leaks, Information And Discussion
hoppa replied to Powered by Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
I didn't really know about the change of the last few years, which changes a lot to be honest because it becomes more like the hearthlake theme that way. In respect to your second point. I don't think all other sets are for boys and that is exactly my point; why I had a mild distaste for it being marketed towards girls so much. Lego most certainly has no gender issues, they have always been at the forefront of equality and inclusion. Finally you are obviously free to your opinion, but rest assured that my now 20 month old boy can be what he wants, play with what he likes and become his own human being. And if my, currently in progress, second child becomes a girl I will be over the moon and the same principles apply. As long as they become awesome human beings I will cheer them on to the fullest. Thank you so much for reacting though, I learned something I didn't know and that honestly changes how I see the sets. -
Lego City 2022 Rumours, Leaks, Information And Discussion
hoppa replied to Powered by Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
The thing I just can't get over is that it is sort of marketed as Lego for girls with all different elements from other Lego. It sort of sets itself apart somehow. While Lego is for girls by default and had been since the early days. It should have just been a theme like pirates or Ninjago. But I am also the first to admit that it might be non-marketeer and maybe slightly childish way of looking at it. -
I genuinely thought them to be large umbrellas covering a terrace in summer and thought they were awesome 😎
-
That is truly awesome. The detail is so gorgeous and believable. I scanned the thread to see if it was asked, but didn't see the question: how many hours of designing did this take you @cincinatti ?

"Looking in my mirror, not a jacker in sight" It seems it really is a good day ;) I've been playing with some freestyle MoC lately and that makes these kind of builds, where you have to be exact in replication, all the more impressive. Great job!

I think it is very cool. If I might give some unsolicited feedback, it is a bit on the white side. A bit more depth and a splash of color would make it even better in my opinion! Although I must recognize that actual buildings follow this pattern so maybe it is just realistic. Good job either way, I like it!

Aaah this is so cool. This is my youth on display right here. I used to own the smaller blue boat and some of the smaller sets like the tower on the island. I always wanted to have the big red boat and other large sets, but that is not something my parent's budget would allow :) Really cool to see, thanks for sharing and offering a trip down memory lane!

Review: 10299 Santiago Bernabéu Stadium
hoppa replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Special LEGO Themes
That is quite de detailed review for something you don't really like @Ecclesiastes very cool. I was wondering, do you really buy these sets to see potential new techniques and then simply break them down for parts? Is that the cheapest way part for part to grow a collection if you don't require very specific parts? -
Hi am an, almost 40 year old, newly discovered Lego fan. I played and owned quite some Lego in my youth but sort of forgot about it growing up. The last few years I've been eyeing the modular sets but I always got stuck on the price. "What adult is going to pay 200euros for a toy set"... After seeing 21's Christmas house was under a 100 I thought I'd give it a try. I enjoyed building that with all it's little mini builds so much that I just became that adult ;) An added bonus is that my girlfriend enjoys it in equal parts. After the Christmas house I've bought and built Assembly Square, which obviously was next level. I even designed a first small MOC that I hope to showcase somewhere in the next months (when all parts are here), although I am properly awed buy the MOCs I've seen here while lurking the last few months. I intend to get some inspiration and tips and tricks for upcoming MOCs I hope to design and build. And the best ways to acquire parts, because even though I am now that adult, it I still a damn expensive hobby!
