  1. Great job! Not trying to discredit you or anything, (I don't have anywhere close to the talent required for such a creation), but the real car is way boxier than your MOC, as pointed out by other people too. I think regular System bricks would create a better result, this looks more like a 90s reincarnation of the F40. But then I generally dislike using Technic to recreate real life cars, the end result is always a bit... jagged.
  2. I'm glad you like them, I've had tons of fun with just 10 bucks for this set. I think it was overlooked but it is really great and versatile. The bucket and 6 gears make for a lot of possible builds, and it inspired me to trying MOCing for the first time. I'm out of new ideas for the time being, maybe I'll try with the new 42148 snow groomer I got last week.
  3. This is my fourth alternative build of the 42116 Skid Steer Loader set, the Excavator. I always prioritize functionality over appearance, so it may look a bit crude but I tried to replicate a real life excavator's arm movements. This set has 4 functions: Real wheel hand of god steering Lifting boom via worm gear mechanism Upper arm rotation via a lever and gears with a low end limit. Rotating bucket Free instructions here: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-139808/johnny.tifosi/42116-excavator/#details
  4. This year is getting worse and worse.
  5. I think this is the most interesting set in this March wave among the usual licensed car borefest. The lever mechanism for the propellers is quite cool, and the inclusion of "water" is a nice touch. However, it's way too covered in panels to admire the nice mechanism, two and a half functions for a 1100 piece set is a letdown (if you can call the spring loaded door a fucntion, and why is there no mechanism for the ailerons or the rear fin?) and the removal of B models even in unlicensed sets is a deal breaker for me. The 10 euro sets paradoxically still remain the highlight of 2023, the play value per euro on those is still great.
  6. I've come to love this tiny set, it's just so versatile. This my third alternative build of the 42116 Skid Steer Loader, the Telehandler. For this MOC I copied extensively the official 42133 Telehandler set. This build features three functions: Hand of God steering Lifting fork via worm gear mechanism Tilting fork via a lever. This build uses two spare black bushes. Free instructions here: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-138985/johnny.tifosi/42116-telehandler/#details
  7. This is my second alternative build of the Lego Technic 42116 set, the Wheel Loader. It features three functions: Rear wheel steering Lifting bucket Tilting bucket Free instructions here: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-138181/johnny.tifosi/42116-wheel-loader/#details
  8. The bucket is aligned with the chassis as you can see in the last photo.
  9. Side Dump Truck alt build of the 42116 Skid Steer Loader. This is my first MOC so there is some shoddy build quality in a couple of places. I don't know if this was due to inexperience in MOC-ing, but this took me several evenings to figure out and make it into acceptable quality after getting the rough idea in my head. I've been building vintage studded Technic sets since I was a kid, but coming up with your own design, especially with a different system of pieces, was especially challenging. I've got to admit that in contrast to the mostly disappointing modern Technic lineup, I've been loving some of the recent 10 euro sets. They are true to the old Technic spirit of functionality and reusability, and the community behind them is huge. Anyway, enjoy the free instructions here: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-136872/johnny.tifosi/42116-side-dump-truck/#details :) Functions: -Hand of god steering -Worm gear driven dumping bed. Spare parts used: 1x black bush, 1x Pin without Friction Ridges.
  10. Awesome job! I'm intrigued by the bulldozer, do you think it would be possible to lift the front blade using the steering arm piece, in a similar way to the snow groomer? I'll give it a shot myself when I get this set. And that dragster... damn talk about imagination lol. Have you actually built it or is it only a render? I can't fathom how these chains stay in place like that.
  11. Looks nice! But you would need to gear down the rover a lot to be usable, the original is way slower and easier to manouevre. And probably route the cable through the top hatch to avoid it getting tangled in the wheels.
  12. Damn that is some dedication remaking both models of the legendary 8480. Congrats! We need the video of the sub too!
  13. I built the Cada Master Porsche 911 recently and part quality was maybe 90% of Lego. System pieces were indistinguishable to Lego, some Technic pieces were a bit lacking. Axles had a bit of a rough finish, and some axle connectors were a tight fit. And no yellow, blue or brown colour vomit whatsoever. Considering I paid 38 euros for a 1400 piece set that was vastly superior to the Lego equivalent, any minor shortcomings were acceptable.
  14. You just made my day! CaDa's designs and value are just on another level compared to Lego. I recently built their classic Porsche 911 and it blows the official Lego set out of the water. I was never interested in any 1:8 supercars but this caught my attention. It's instantly recognizable, it doesn't looked like a jagged pile of panels and the functionality looks great. This is what all the official Lego 1:8 sets should be. Is there any mechanism involved in the doors or engine hood? Will there be any motorized version?
  15. 7/7 licensed sets, and if true, the price per piece on most of them is absolutely ridiculous... 2023 is a waste for me. The Rover sounds somewhat intriguing at least... I'm hoping it includes some space related B-model too (lol)
  16. 8 sets with B models vs 16 sets without B models is half the value though ;) The exact same pneumatic steam engine got 10000 votes in lego ideas this year but of course they rejected it for some Polaroid paperweight instead. It was a brilliant concept :( And I agree that both studded and universal sets are badly needed, but this ship has sailed decades ago unfortunately. In the first case, TLG seems to ideologically avoid Technic bricks even where they are necessary, like structures requiring rigidity (for cost cutting reasons I presume, just check the cost of equivalent Bricks and beams in Bricks and pieces). In the second case, when even B models are gone, TLG putting the effort in a 90s style universal set with 4 models is only a pipe dream.
  17. I was more thinking of the 90s when talking about 8 sets per year but you get my point. And even if we got lots of cars in 2016, we still got some bangers like the Xerion, the Volvo handler or the bucket wheel excavator, with B models and power functions.
  18. I'm right there with you. They have hugely bloated the lineup (16 sets in a year? Seriously?), so they are skimping on functions and B models. In the past we got 7-8 sets per year at most but they were properly designed, with solid build quality, B models and motor upgradability. Nothing of these is true for most current sets, with lazy, bending builds and lacking playability. And ffs I'm so bored of the licensed cars. Not much to differentiate and they look like crap, like the Mitsubishi Eclipse looking Ford GT. When you're trying to recreate a real life car design with lego technic parts, it's just going to look like it's been hit with an axe. It's only the plucky little 10 dollar sets that still keep the Technic spirit alive. Both the dump truck and the snow groomer look brilliant. Unless Lego get their act together I'm done with modern Technic. It has been in a downturn at least since 2016 or so, and especially 2019 when they started ditching B models. But if they keep doing it, it must be working for them, so my rant possibly is worthless anyway.
  19. Thanks for the update, too bad we'll have to wait longer for the 10 euro set reviews. That cute snow plow thingy looks really interesting and the only one I personally think is worth spending my money on. Proper Technic.
  20. When is the review embargo lifted?
  21. Good posting, how were you able to figure out the build without instructions? Three functions, five gears, tracks, and a B model in a 10 euro set? This is a winner, it's got as many functions as some 150 euro sets (looking at you 1:10 licensed cars).
  22. Bracing for another year of disappointment. A bunch of pullbacks with no functions, a bunch of overpriced licensed car model kits that look like crap and lack functions and B-models, and so on. Only the tiny 10 euro kid's sets are still earnest. Technic has really lost its way. I came out of my dark ages last year and I still haven't purchased a new set. 6 out of 11 new releases will be licensed ffs.
  23. Not really when the "pistons" are brown ffs...
  24. Digging up an old thread but there was some solid info here to keep it alive. I recently got a used 8082 set but I found out the 9V micromotor didn't work (of course). I dropped it on the floor as some people suggested to no avail. I pushed the 4 tabs with some pins and opened the case, and it looked in good condition in the inside. The gearbox worked fine, the magnet and coils seemed intact. I rubbed clean the rotor shaft and the metal contacts and put the motor back together, but no luck. I tried to place the shaft between the contacts while assembling but I can't be sure about that. How would one do it correctly? I later gave the motor to a colleague who has access to a multi-meter and found out the motor is shorted, but I couldn't know if it is due to my reassembly. Anyway I just forked out 18 bucks for another micromotor from Bricklink and hoping to be lucky this time, but I'm still not giving up on this because of its rarity and seemingly good appearance. Any ideas?
