  1. Install and adblocker in your browser. Why this ISN'T default in a browser I don't understand? Who the hell wants to see ads?? I'd rather have a paid membership, but that's another discussion
  2. 10193. Will be fun to build for both you and the lady (and you can do one building each). Wonderfull set on display. Get it while it's still there
  3. While they allready knew what to build it means : 3000hours/12 builders/37 hour week = 6,7 days to build the lot! Pretty impressive, I must say - even with unlimited bricks and no-one to bug ya Now if someone would just pay me a decent salery and not bug me for a week, I could .. Also, 6,7 days x 37 hour x 60 minutes x 60 seconds. That's 892440 seconds to put down 2.000.000 1x1 bricks, or one each 0,44 second for twelve builders = 27 seconds for each builder ... and that's just the 1x1 And now, I'm drunk - don't take my calculations for good
  4. Beams with studs are still being used in loads of new sets, SW in particular. allthough the colours are not the most appealing They're only gone from Technics
  5. I think it's because the TLG designer probably did just like you. And then later found out it's actually an illigal technique. I'll let you figure it out I can live with that though and have PF'ed my 3677 front and back. I really like the 3677. It's the best looking trainset in a very long time
  6. That's absolute nonsense. You do not know what TLG designers do or don't. Just because a certain technique is first seen in a moc, it does not mean that it hasen't been done at TLG's lab like ten years ago. Remember, they do this for a living, they have access to every freakin' part and they can even get new parts made. And to boot, they're quite a few people at that headquarter bouncing ideas back and forth
  7. I know and there's even another example But that's two out of thousands of TLG designed sets
  8. Pattern recognition is a fundamental human condition that seperates us from other animals. That's why we have 'useless' things like art. And that's why one can see those 'clues' as well .. That would open a boatload of can'o'worms. TLG have inhouse designers for a good reason. Copyright and lotsa screaming on forums would be a couple of reasons If you think you can do it better than TLG designers, I'm sure you can send them a job application Edit : fat fingers, sorry
  9. Thanx for the review I've completly changed my mind about this mining theme and bought a load of them to create a large mining industry for my train layout Yes, the dumptruck thingy is not done so well. At least it should be articulated! Also, I'm kinda tired of those enormous sidemirrors that seem to grace every new 6 wide truck too - TLG could at least provide us with 'mirror' stickers so they'd actually 'work' On this model they especially looks way outta size. I removed mine Bobcat is perfect. The minifigs in that theme are also way cool. Real workman like and cool helmets to boot Edit : Never had a prob with those wheels/attachement btw And 6581 is looking pretty hot too, thanx for that. I'll dig into my bricks and moc that as well ...

    MOD set 4434

No, I've never seen a truck with wheels/tyres taking up 2/3 of the width. I think the original is just super as it is TLG have really nailed those 6 wide vehicles to a perfection .. if they could just do the same with the 4 wide (loose those modguards and those terrible big balloon tyres, please - allthough the latest VW bus in the 4207 set was just about perfect) I'd be happy Imho, that is
  11. I know that auction/guy. It's not an original 7740, some parts have been replaced. He has a lot for sale. Some trains are MOCs by James Mathis, I think Don't put too much into that auction pic, he probably just lost the bricks or moddded to suit his needs. I can send you his email if you like About my own pantos .. I don't have any All my trains are with a selfcontained supply of power. Also, pantos wouldn't clear my tunnels, mountains, monorails and whatnot. and that's more important to me Cheers, Ole
  12. But hey, you got fancy 6wide vehicles and that's all that boys want!
  13. I'm sorry about your condition, but still - this forum has rules and guidelines and a question like this does not really belong in this thread, imho If you like all your Town/City questions, maybe you could open a thread called "Chri5kng Town/City thread" .. but if that is the right way to do it, I can't really say. Better to pm one of the mods (Ricecracker can sort it out for you, I'm sure) and ask I know you're eager to discuss this subject (and so am I), but it has to be in the right frame Pm a mod You can find them all at Peeron (and loads more, including classic Idea Books) : http://www.peeron.com/catalogs And medium catalogues are also easy and cheap to by at Bricklink Hours of fun .. and nostalgia
  14. Yeah, how about just one megathread we're we can talk classic town all day I'm not too fond of this versus that, really Chri5kng, how about you open that thread?
  15. Cool MOC I too have never seen that IRL, but it looks really usefull Great pics! But that last one really looks like it's hovering in free air Would also be a nice set for TLG to do I got really inspired, thanx all Cheers, Ole
  16. DLuders, the 'flashing' is built into the 4771 lightbrick. Flip it and it'll flash It's 9V, but not PF Or you can use the x543 from the 7866, but that is 12V Or maybe do something with the fiberoptics unit, 6637 Or maybe use a (micro) motor to toggle a PF switch .. Edit : I don't know if Mindstorms can do it? That would be PF If you wanna go non-LEGO, you just need and AMV (astable multi vibrator) with just a couple of generic transistors or a 555 (there are plenty of readymade kits for that too). A microcontroller is a wee bit overkill for this app Cheers, Ole
  17. I'm not sure I agree with that comparison as lots of the Town sets were available at the same time. Today TLG fazes sets out pretty quickly Take a look at the (second half) of the 2012 catalogue : http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=72566 That's police, fire, mining and not much more. Not a single house for the civilians to live in Looks very boring. I know my son feels the same ('cept he prefers the SW to classic Space but I'll turn him away from the dark side sooner or later), he just love flippin' through those old wonderfull catalogues
  18. If that is true TLG should only sell buckets of bricks. They don't. They sell sets. While I can moc all I wan't, LEGO would most certainly not have been the same, nor have reached this popularity if they just did buckets of bricks
  19. romdam Also, I'd like to point out that it's not a nostalgia thing for me, I'm not wishing for those 1983 sets to return. I'm just missing those type of houses etc from todays catalogue Modern vehicles are great, they've never been better (at least the 6 widers), but they do live in an odd City with only a firestation, policestation and the robbers hide out
  20. Just because that's the xxxx (and that's imo) that's on telly, doesn't mean you have to let your kid watch it I know my son prefers Tintin to any of that Oh, and Cars is the biggest digital cartoon hit ever. Quite a lot of city in that
  21. Now, two people have pointed out the Playmobil isn't very popular in the US. The US is not TLGs only market Playmobil and LEGO are both huge in Germany and is most certainly competing for the same target group. In fact Playmobil is quite popular in all of the EU (and in _south_ America I hear) I don't buy the idea that TLG isn't doing (much) City because of costs Cost most certainly is _not_ the only factor for TLG. They could probably lower their costs significantlty if the did more outsourcing (and they're not, in fact they're about to 'back source') and/or skimp on the plastic quality/colour (<-- like they do with yellow right now, sigh) No, they decided that City ain't cool. Wonder why?
  22. I'm not sure you know what you're talking about? TLG is a private company, they'll never hit the stockmarket How do you know that the designers have less freedom today? Detailing can be good, but at the expense of the overall picture? I think not I can only conclude that City just isn't very important for TLG
  23. But in other parts of the world Playmobil is a major LEGO competitor, directly targeting the same group TLG puts out themes all the time that does not sell as well as SW. Should they, by your logic, stop that as well? I'm sure TLG have loads of people hired to look into their target group deepest wishes I'm also quite sure they had the similar people telling them just what those boys need when TLG almost went totally down the drain LEGO is also educational and TLG tend to take the moral high ground from time to time. I think they should tone down the conflict/action sets, at least in the city. They got plenty other themes for that If would be nice to learn young kids that there's a lot more to daily life than conflict. Kids needs guidance Afterall, I'm sure if you ask a 10 year old boy if he'd like some modern LEGO military tanks, 99% of them would say yes in a heartbeat
  24. I just bought one for my kid It's quite stable and well balanced. Highly suitable for play. The head is not that heavy but it's very nicely constructed in an advanced way No flaws as I could find, drives easily over carpet Don't have the Mech, sorry
  25. Really, you get a sore thumb by pusing that little green switch on that long, grey crappy batterybox? Pneumatics are fun, but they suck at precise powerfull movements. Motors ftw!
