LEGO Star Wars 2024 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Arjo replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Wise decision… though my personal guess is that it will feel quite small for the price and/or not compare too well to other big sets coming up later in the year such that I don’t expect to be tempted. One never knows though! -

What are you May 4th purchase priorities? With the number of sets available and inflated prices it won’t take many to reach whatever threshold they set for the gwp. I actually added the price of all the sets of potential interest to me and the sum total was absurdly high. A bit depressing. Every year I tell my AFOL-self to stop purchasing to get gwps but given some SW sets I have never seen on sale so far (gunship, ghost) I might just break my tentative rule yet again. -

Jang has reviewed a city space set… I watched out of curiosity and thought a) plenty of useful parts e.g. for a Kaminoan lab, b) that little backpack in grey would be great for arc-troopers. The set is now on my watch list should it ever get discounted. -

I would have bought the justifier at 50% off. In my region the discounts were minimal on this set. Win some lose I guess. -
Dang… they increased the torsos by 37%!!!

I did order some from PAB, a small batch to test the water. Result is meh. Ultimately they might not be perfect but they are available and relatively cheap so that’s that. Getting imperials at all from TLG is half a miracle these days. The one piece I am yet to pull the trigger on are a handful of admiral hats but the price is steep for that one (as much as an entire reg soldier in my region).

You’re right, I had missed that at first. Then another reason to try to find that guy then! -

Think i’ll try to get my hands on one pair just to give it a try. Will be too pricey to swap in numbers anyway. -

Random question: expensive option but what about the legs of the new CMF M-tron for coruscant guards? -

Ytb video from Goldfyre showing improved roofs and inn recolour. The latter surprised me and I think it is indeed an improvement. For the roofs it was obvious given how poorly finished they are. Funnily enough, in pics and videos I like the “cottage” side of the set the least… but seen in the bricks at the store it has in fact a nice presence/volume. The inn and castle part feels a bit too small and limited in depth in comparison. Still, a set I will try to get when the time is right. Hope you enjoy your purchase for those of you who pulled the trigger already! -

Obi over Ani any day in this set, oh well. What’s the price again? They know it will sell to AFOOLS just because of Saw… -
I disagree re. Looking like a mess. It is a couple steps further into a “realistic” direction. It spontaneously feels “different” (rather than better or worse than the original set). Kudos to the brave who didn’t shy away from adapting the set to his own taste. I also saw mods where the cottage roof was replaced with “claw” pieces similar to other buildings/LkC and of the three it looked the neatest to me but this mod here is grittier looking and kind of makes sense.

For those in the UK: 5.25 for the magazine whereas it is currently possible to buy the 501st specialist battle pack for ten apiece… I know which one I went with:) -

Not sure it is actually worth it this time around: I think the battle pack will eventually dip to 18, if you put 5 on the corruscant guard vs. 13 on the rest of the set, I am not sure the magazine is the way to go. That is unless you are for some reason after multiples of that one clone. -

Back from the second biggest lego store in the world… but the set is not built and on display yet. The box looked smaller than I had imagined if it is any indication. Snow white cottage looking good though (for those of us who might be considering “medieval” options). -

Report from the lego store: midi scale Falcon is really tiny, feels even more expensive when seen in the brick imo. The TIV hallway (inc. Fives) looks good but the off white stickers are a shame. R2 is quite small as well, doesnt look the price. Maybe the build experience compensates in part for the modest volume of bricks one is left with. Haven’t bought any yet but at the moment the TIV hallway is number one on my list, hopefully with a discount whrn the time comes. -
The gold is in the tunnel, literally!
-
Yes, the one from the BL designer programme. I’d love to buy it comes the Fall but I can only imagine the asking price will be very high.

I believe there already is a large forrest men set coming up in the Fall. I doubt there will be two back to back but who knows?

Whether you’re disappointed in the set or not, sharing my recent discovery of “castle world moc” which recycles 10305 into a bunch of smaller medieval builds. There is some pretty decent stuff in there (only the boat doesn’t do it for me but it’s understandable as he went with what spare parts he had left). Given the price of 10305 there won’t be many willing to get a second but the moc offers good inspiration for potential additions to MTS provided one has the parts. -

Out of curiosity, between the BL mountain fortress and the medieval townsquare which do you like best (in absolute terms, and relative i.e. bang for your buck)? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I find the BL set much more aesthetically pleasing, some design choices of the MTS are really rough imo. Also, the juxtaposition of interior spaces don’t make much spontaneous sense to me. Awaiting to see it in the brick but it looks a bit small too, though in scale with LKC in ways the blacksmith and hocus pocus clearly aren’t. Glad the set exists, like the rest of you I was patiently waiting since the survey leaked, but I am not too sure I will in fact pull the trigger on this one (unless, one can dream, it was possible to get a really nice gwp and 2x vip in which case that would be decent enough value for me personally). -

3000+ parts for what are probably not fully enclosed buildings so I expect a non-trivial amount of smaller elements. Given few minifigs and animals I hope the price is reasonable (don’t recall what was announced). Also next to the snow white cottage it looks a bit rougher (though that one is dear). Ultimately in terms of medieval vibe, the hocus pocus one might still be leading for me (to add to the blacksmith shop). Awaiting a potential drop in price though… name of the game for all things lego in the new world. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Arjo replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I take everything I wrote back (inc. reservations re. Colour). I’ve seen it “in the brick” at my local store and it in fact works very well. So I’m in… at some point, so as to maximise bang for buck and compensate hefty price tag (though not egregious by Tlg standards these days). For those of you who might have been disappointed by the pictures, go take a look if you can, it might change your mind. ps: for the most AFOL of us outthere who buy multiple copies of modulars… this might not require much as it could be sticking two of these side by side makes quite a statement already ps2: comments above as a “stand alone” modular. Integrated into a street or city, it will be a game of trial and error (as well as personal taste) to find the best pairing -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Arjo replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
My initial reaction, and post, was pretty lukewarm. Whilst I am still not a fan of the colour scheme overall, I think it will be easier for me to “acquire this particular taste” than Jazz Club’s. I do stand by my comment re. Building techniques. Going by Police Station, a small sample admittedly, Chris is an efficient designer but not the flashiest, which is fine I guess if one is content with the end product. Still unsure whether I will take the plunge, particularly at this price point, but it stands a better chance than JC so at least that’s that. Parting note as I read and hear so many comments touting BH as the cream of the crop… I don’t get it (I have it and built it but don’t feel there is anything that special about it). Oh well, the beauty of the modulars is in the eyes of the beholders. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Arjo replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Re. Dumbed down building experience, I obviously do not know that for a fact. Just my personal feeling building more recent modulars (bar for bookshop, I didn’t like its size and choice colour but enjoyed building the little house). Maybe my lego building skills have improved (courtesy of modulars and all) that I am no longer in awe. re. Gatekeeping, again to each their own, I wouldn’t see the point. I tend to be underwhelmed at first then certain modulars grow on me (or they don’t e.g. jazz club). Ultimately what makes so down on that one is the choice of colour. It took me the longest time (and FOMO) to buy the parisian restaurant because of that very reason. Olive green walls don’t make much sense in my eye and, in the present case, it seems to be driven by the desire to make “call backs” to older modulars (which is def. A trend of recent years). Anyway, I an down on it, no big deal. The rest of you will still enoy it very much which is fine. Forum of individual opinions and all.
