  1. Your build is incredible! I am amazed at the quality of the three models. Each is great and my favorite is the... all of them!
  2. Agreed! I did not think of that! Great idea! I wonder if I can automate a point to point system using the PF motor and battery?
  3. My layout was getting a little crowded so I boxed up my 10020, 60051 and 60052 sets and took down my monorail. Lots more space now to run my trains and add some scenery. Below is a quick video of how it looks today with a couple of in video links to my videos on my engines and rolling stock. Enjoy!
  4. Another vote for the battery and motor in the tender. Personally I like to see motor power the drive wheels but if that's not possible the tender is next best. Pulling from the front bogie seems weird and probably presents some unique design challenges. I absolutely love your design and work so far! The canopy on the cars is my favorite part so far.
  5. According to JangBricks review of the set, the wheels and holder are made from different types of plastic, purportedly to reduce friction. Go to 2:25
  6. Oh, wow, it didn't dawn on me those bogies were powered. You solution and explanation are great! Thanks for enlightening us! FWIW, I think the spacing between the cars is great as is, don't let that bother you.
  7. I love this train as well. Nice work. That shared boogie looks a little awkward to me though, with the unnecessary pin in the middle, and the pins on the end certainly take up room in the car. I wonder if you might benefit from using a turntable instead like I did on my shared bogies, all my trucks actually use this turntable.
  8. I did not even know the decals were an available feature yet! Thanks for mentioning that.
  9. You've fallen into the same trap that I did (and probably everyone else) when first building a chassis. You don't have to limit yourself to such large, expensive plates. You could achieve the same thing by using 7 of the 4x6 black plates which are only $.10 each. Multiply that by two layers and you're at $1.40 for the whole chassis. As your chassis designs becomes more complicated you will find large plates become less suitable anyway, or at least I did. You might also consider downloading Lego Digital Designer, LDD, and using that software to examine different train cars that other people have built, to get an idea of some additional building techniques. You can find examples of other peoples work on sites like this or on Bricklink (in the MOC section) or on Bricksafe. Here's a link to my Bricksafe folder, where I share all of my rolling stock and locomotive designs, complete with the LDD file, for other people to examine, modify or copy my designs. https://bricksafe.com/pages/sed6
  10. I found a similar thread here... Looks like he used a butter knife to carefully pry the top off the bottom.
  11. Skip that boogie plate solution. Between their cost and the limited selection of train base colors you're much better building your own color matching chassis, as mentioned already. I find the bogie plate with pin to be way too limiting in my design options. Instead ALL of my rolling stock uses a 2x2 turntable to swivel the trucks.
  12. The blue well cars look awesome. I really like your idea for "heritage" containers also. Well done.
  13. I love the carriages! Great look and shape and colors. Just make the axles black. The engine is neat but it looks kinda sad, just like the real one. So good job there too! I just built an EMD F7 loco and they too look sad from some angles.
  14. I did this recently with the PF train motor. Ironically I took it apart so I COULD reverse the motor. One of two things could have happened. Your motor could be flipped front to back. But that would mean some stretched out or misrouted wires inside. Alternatively the gears could be on the wrong side of the pinion gear, meaning they both (orange and white) need to be flipped left to right (both axles). This all presumes you didn't unsolder the motor, in which case you could have reversed the wires. So basically you put something in backwards and your motor is now running...backwards :)
  15. Mine's pretty small too. Uses the PF not PU battery though.
  16. For real? Does that matter, beyond aesthetics I mean?
  17. You should ask those guys directly. I'm sure they'd share their idea.
  18. Awesome! Thanks for showing the digital view, I was having a hard time imagining the pieces! How about between my middle and outer loops, will that work too, can you show that digital?
  19. I wonder if they will work for a crossover on R4O curves like I have pictured or does the outer curve need to be a bigger radius?
  20. Here you go.
  21. Now this is awesome! I have no use for large radius curves on my compact track, but these will really improve and increase design options for people who run R40.
  22. Pursuit of Flight just needs 50 more votes to reach 10k! https://ideas.lego.com/projects/9f20e63f-79a7-4625-bb09-1b51a7b17842
