  1. Someone has done the colour swap for the jazz club in real life.
  2. For expensive sets like the Lion Knights Castle, Ideas lighthouse, and Loop Coaster, I've had LEGO ship the packing box to me - so the set inside is perfectly fit and has been in pristine condition. Although some (maybe all?) of the modulars have come repacked. But many other sets are transported in boxes of multiple sets, so they have to repack them, and this is where some damage can occur - although I think it's only happened once to me - so it's probably down to your local courier, rather than LEGO directly.
  3. Agreed. It's a totally different scale to the modulars. More of a vignette style thing. The ground floor is only four bricks high, the top floor is five bricks high. They've put a chihuahua in so that you get something, but a minifigure will look really odd next to it. I was tempted initially to try and get it, but I don't think it's worth the $250 spend. I'll wait for the pizza van with the jazz club, and 40585 World of Wonders looks like it will a more interesting build when that launches, maybe in February. There is a saxophone in the Jazz Club already. And the speculation is that Andy Sax is a character in Assembly Square already.
  4. I'm going to put the Jazz Club between Corner Garage and Detective's Office in my setup. They all feel like they'd fit in the seedier end of downtown, and with Corner Garage on the right, and Detective's Office on the left, you get a mix of colour blocking and heights. Of course, I still need to build Corner Garage (and Jazz Club for that matter - but waiting for the GWP).
  5. Right, who's up for a watch party of this TWO HOUR video of the A-frame cabin? I note, with some distress, that the forest trees not included in the set are much denser and more like the original submission. Which is just mean at this point! Oh yes, there is! That's amazing! Ha ha!
  6. Is that a new clock print on the 1x1 round tile, next to the candle? Just considering the size, this is about as tall as the Brick Bank modular, so might feel a bit small compared to the modulars, but pretty huge for an A-frame cabin in the woods. The Ideas treehouse will tower over it though, so it should work nicely with that.
  7. I really like it, but I'd love them to have some sets with bulkier trees and not these very straggly ones. The Ideas treehouse suffered from the same problem in my opinion. I will definitely get it though. And, is that a red colour for 32607 (stud with three leaves)?!?! I've been waiting so long for that! And olive green too? Woo hoo!
  8. No! It simply has to stop. We can't have years of otter puns. Don't make me report you! I really like the A-frame cabin. It will fit a few deer nicely too, when they're on break from their North Pole duties in the winter. There's speculation that one of the new Harry Potter sets might feature either a doe or a goat in the expecto patronum set (probably more wishful thinking than speculation), but a doe would be great to go with the deer and be placed next to this set.
  9. I can't believe we're getting Dobby's sock. Ha ha! Might even be worth getting just for the memories. Really looking forward to Gringotts, and while $430 is a lot, it gives me hope that they've got the scope do make it compatible with Diagon Alley, with maybe 40% of the budget going towards the street level Gringotts, 40-50% towards the tracks and vaults, and 10-20% towards the ironbelly. I could see them doing: 1. A modular build, so that the street level stacks on top of the vaults, but that might be hard to make the vault look good, from the outside and is awkard to have to separate the levels to put the street level with Diagon Alley. 2. Steps up from street level so that the vault is a small height underneath the elevated ground floor of the bank. 3. A really wide and/or deep Gringotts, so that the inside has both street level and vaults on the same level, but next to each other. Perhaps with a foldout from 32x32 to 16x64 for street level on one side and vaults on the other. 4. My personal favourite, but also unlikely due to cost - A base for Diagon Alley. They create the vaults/track as a base that Diagon Alley sits on, and so both sets combined are multi-level. It would look cool to elevate Diagon Alley, and you'd get a good long length of track. However they do it, if it's compatible with Diagon Alley, I think I'll be happy with it.
  10. I don't know if it's fair to do it, that's why I asked an internet forum, rather than chatting with LEGO customer service, which has the actual answer. My large reddish brown wedge from that set has also broken a bit, but it's a hairline crack, so I'd forgotten about it. It also has a sticker on, which would be annoying to try and replace. Sigh about brittle reddish brown and brittle dark red.
  11. If we're talking about replacement parts, how long before it's not fair to ask for them. I have about 15 1x1 and 1x2 dark red tiles from the Fire Brigade modular, and maybe six reddish brown plates of various sizes from Metalbeard's Sea Cow that are broken (assembled one and disassembled the other recently). Would it be fair to ask for replacements for those, or should I just buy them?
  12. The dark blue makes the jazz club sign really pop. It feels properly neon and lit up. It also works better with the yellow of the pizzeria. And it looks far less like the fire brigade. But I can also see what he meant in the Assembled video when the designer said people complained it was too cold. I actually rather like the azure next to the red, but not the blue - it's too close. Overall, I think my favourite colour scheme is dark blue on the ground floor and dark red above. At least today it is. Who knows what tomorrow may bring...
  13. I will never understand the value that some people place on a single minifigure. But congratulations! To my mind, that's an excellent trade!
  14. I recently bought 75 of the rubber duckies and 75 candy canes from the BAM station. I felt a bit bad, but I did it over several trips and either months or a week after release. But I wanted them for customizing the bonsai tree into autumn and winter variants. So I can see why people might want to get a boat load of something for an odd purpose. I'd love the availability of parts on PAB to be better though. And the ability to backorder them would be awesome.
  15. Although I went for tiles with mine, it was mainly because I found a load of them really, really cheap. But also, while I was trying to get plates to work before that, I was struggling with not wanting to raise the height of things like the counters and stairs, as some of them are built into the walls. It was becoming a mess that I didn't want to deal with, so tiles (especially the ability to have 2x2 45 degree ones) made it much easier. But yes, I like studded surfaces for some things. Especially carpets, grass, and gravel.
  16. I could easily see Nuke Fridge being the new Bathtub bike. To think of it another way, can you think of a reason why anyone wouldn't buy it?
  17. This sums up the entire Internet and every person's opinion in the world, to be honest. I've not watched it, but would like to try at some point. I did see a few episodes of Wheel of Time - having never heard of it before, and not read any books - and was disappointed by that. It felt like they had taken LOTR and changed the characters slightly. It kind of felt lazy. But my understanding is that the books are far better and original. So a shame that the TV show was implemented poorly. All of that said, I can see potential for excellent LEGO sets in all of these kinds of big budget fantasy TV shows. Just because the program isn't great, doesn't mean you can't have excellent sets from it. It gives LEGO the media tie-in that they clearly think they need to be able to produce fantasy sets that can be very easily tweaked/MOCd into anything you like. So I'm hopeful we'll get more.
  18. If they don't make this, it will be a travesty.
  19. And look at how that turned out. A few FB sets, but mostly sticking with the original HP movies. So they could happily leverage RoP for the media tie-in and still produce mostly PJ movie-based sets.
  20. No, sadly. That's for a new in-house IP called Dreamzzz.
  21. Thanks! I considered lines but it was too obvious, so this felt best. I was going to use some 1x1 tiles at the edges, but the Bricklink seller had an awesome deal on 1x2 and 1x3 tiles, so I went that route. Maybe one day I'll update it. I definitely love putting the scenes together though. Costume day is a fun way to use all the CMF and BAM figures!
  22. When I went to a MILS style base, I considered what colour to use as the base for the floors, with the Palace Cinema being the trickiest, as I wanted black around the edges, but the cinema has a single brick wall on the edge and then exposed floor. In the end, I tiled it. This photo misses the 2x2 angle cut tiles that I had to order from PAB and have now placed, but a mix of tiles and a few single studs for figures worked nicely. (I have a costume day going on at my cinema. And a display of Jack Sparrow next to the stairs)
  23. I had a huge box full of plates that I got in a bulk lot a while ago, and just wanted to use them up. Towards the end I ran out of it black, so ordered some more from Bricklink, and the centres were a more mixed colour, but it worked out well for me. 16x16 is definitely a good way to go though. Nice idea about the fire trails. I may have to give that a go!
  24. He has some good content. I've only watched a few videos, but I like the playful nature of the things that he does. Feels very LEGO to me. And there's some imagination and thought that goes into it, rather than 'just' news or set reviews, which a lot of LEGO media is (which is good and useful, but can start to feel samey after a while).
  25. I considered the art 16x16 Technic bricks as the base for MILS when I did it last year. In the end, I had a load of old/used plates that I wanted to include, so it was cheaper to get the cheapest 2x2 bricks on Bricklink, so I went that route. But I did like the black base, so I put black plates around the edges and black bricks (with some Technic 1x2 bricks for connections) to fill it all in. These are the plates: And then some of the buildings on them: But if I didn't have the plates to use up, I probably would have gone the 16x16 brick route. At the time, it was actually cheaper to get them direct from LEGO on Pick a Brick than it was Bricklink. So might be worth considering that too. Especially for large quantities if inventory is low on Bricklink.
