Wizarding World 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

Those hat/hair combo pieces are great. Hope that they come to PAB and aren't license locked. -
Licensed Lego Ideas - Support & Discussion

So many good ideas were rejected, but hopefully they allow them to go into the Bricklink Designer Program. The selected ideas are great though and I look forward to seeing them developed. -

I think that if they did Minas Tirith it would likely be the Citadel/top level with the hall, courtyard, white tree, and outcrop. Maybe raised a few bricks off the ground to give a sense of the height, but not much more than that. It would allow you to do detailed minifig (ish) scale elements and yet would still be very large and imposing. The Ideas sets trying to show the levels of Minas Tirith just don't work for me. They lack the detail and interest that you'd want from a set of that size and the figures look totally out of place. Yes, it's a shame not to have the ability to do the siege and play elements that come with it. But it would just be far too large to get everything in at something approaching minifigure scale. If they did it, I suspect it would be like Hogwarts at nanofigure scale, as you could get a decent balance between presence and detail. -

Agreed. They've captured the iconic locations really well and blended them together pretty seamlessly. If they'd have done a microscale version, half of it would have been rockwork, and the other half would lack the detail required by having to use LEGO elements. Diagon Alley was $400 on release and is $450 now. This is very nearly as wide as Diagon Alley (32 inches vs 40 inches), and much deeper, so the mass of stuff is there. I think the product shots are not doing the size of it justice. Compared to the Lion Knights Castle it's a bit trickier to say it's 'good value' (if you can call any LEGO set good value), and Ninjago City Gardens blows pretty much anything of this size out of the water. Obviously a lower price would be better, but I can certainly see that it's inline with similar sets across the LEGO portfolio. What I love about the display aspect of it is that it's a decently solid mass of stuff to behold. A bit like the Lion Knights Castle. With some height variation to make it interesting. And then an explosion of natural colours with the roof and trees. -

Might be exclusive for three months, which seems pretty common for these larger sets. There are quite a few stickers. All the art work, the bed sheets, the mithril shirt. But the floor tiles are all printed (phew!). It's a wonderful set. Looks stunning, I suspect it will be terrific to build (except maybe the roof tiles), and the trees are awesome. Really looking forward to this! -

Oh, I thought it was $160. But yes, terrible in comparison with the teal car. -

More liked AND at a lower spend threshold. And a load of new sets coming in March. -
Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
Ah ha! Mystery solved. Two quotes on this one and the Raiders logo. Yes, it looks compact, but it actually has a sizeable footprint, to the point where bigger might make it less manageable, and fewer details would likely lose a lot. I'm looking forward to seeing what mechanisms they have. I hope it's not just static, but they've done something fun across the entire run. -

Typically, a tease like this results in a full reveal the following day. But they could always change things and make it a longer wait. -

Whatever it is, it's not the final model. It's either a prototype that someone has put through an AI for some bizarre reason. Or it's a MOC that has been through an AI. Or it's all just AI generated with lots of prompts of what to include. I suspect that if you put the leaked description through an AI and added one or two extra bits (person behind, figures on a card, white figures in the set), then you could get this image. Either way, it's not very different to what I imagined it would be with the description. And there is no decent detail that you can accurately believe. Also, it's definitely not aliens. It's interdimensional beings that have generated it... -

The car and plane look great, although shame it's not a seagull battle pack. Not wowed by the other two, but that can often be the case with potato leak pictures. I'm going to wait until they are fully revealed, as they may be hiding something cool. -

That's true. And with so many more of LEGO's media partners pushing things in Chin, even more important for them all to protect what they are doing there. -

Titanic, Loop Coaster, Real Madrid, and Haunted House didn't have a specific GWP. Eiffel Tower and Colosseum did. And you could also argue that Lion Knights' Castle did, but it wasn't exclusive and was released before the castle, and then sold out immediately on the second release when the castle went live (Forest Hideout). These are just the Icons sets currently available, but past ones have also been mixed. -

I'm also going to wait until they're is a good GWP, but will enjoy seeing others build it immediately! -

r/lego on Reddit has 989k subscribers. r/lepin on Reddit has 47k subscibers. And it's likely that people who buy Lepin are TFOL/AFOL for the most part. And even then, some will only buy the Lepin original ideas, not the ones stolen from LEGO. Perhaps very casual buyers who don't know the difference, but you can't get LEGO set clones on the major online stores, so that might be hard. Which suggests that Lepin buyers are a very small proportion of TFOL/AFOLs. Who are themselves a relatively small proportion of the LEGO buying market. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Actually, very nice. The stuff inside it is cool. Things to send to the Downtown Diner, Boutique Hotel and Art Gallery, Jaz Club, and possibly Assembly Square. -
My six year old loves it too. And is obsessed with cats. I hope it's good, because I'll probably end up having to get at least one of the sets!

Ah yes, good old Uncle Generic Weasley. He didn't make it into any of the films though, did he? I thought it was only a few references in the books. Nice list. Agreed that a break is probably needed, but having a permanent main castle setting, transportation set, and smaller intimate space is definitely a good balance. -

And to take it even further, do you then use a black 2x2 plate, like Brick Bank Parisian Restaurant, and Detective's Office, or dark bluish grey, like the more recent ones?! -

What is the difference between a moving van and a removals van? Aren't they the same thing? Anyway, it's nice that we finally get a GWP for the townhouse renovation with the petshop... -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Agreed, but, as you point out, it's to its benefit to be smaller, as anything larger would be massively more expensive and likely a more tedious build experience. It's the problem that doing minigure scale versions of real places suffer from, as they do have to reflect the real-world place. The Home Alone or Simpson's houses are a much larger scale than the modulars, so to my eyes don't fit alongside them. The Daily Bugle and Sanctum Santorum are much smaller in scale, so while they fit, the Sanctum is supposed to be four floors (from the outside), but it's the same height as a three storey modular, and, I think, a bit too small to be truly minifigure scale (with all of the inherent arguments about what scale you measure to for minifigs vs people). For me, the modulars nail the balance between looks, scale, detail, playability, cost, and all the other things you'd want from a mass market set. Despite the compromises that have to be made as a result. It also shows you just how good Friends is, for including a bathroom in EVERYTHING! (small children LOVE this, and they clearly know their target market!)
