Not according to Disney... But you get the idea. All castle stuff is medieval castles and knights and peasants (to most people), all pirates stuff is 17th and 18th century ships, ports, pirates, and (probably European/East India Company) authorities (to most people). But space could be recent past, current, near future, far future, 1950s sci-fi, Star Wars, Star Trek, one-off movies from your childhood, movies from now, etc. etc. It's all so diverse, that each individual option generally doesn't have the same pulling power as something more 'generic' (to most people) like 'castle' or 'pirates'. Just musing on why Galaxy Explorer might not be performing as well as the recent castle stuff and PoBB/Creator 3-in-1 ship.

For Galaxy Explorer, the issue it potentially faces is that, although being a very good model, it's based off something specifically created by LEGO, and had very little relevance to the real world, so harder to relate to. It's not 'real' space, nor huge in pop culture. Pirates and castle on the other hand are real. It doesn't matter if you're into LEGO lore or not, you can appreciate a good pirate ship or knights castle easily. So it's a much easier sell. PoBB was out of stock in the US for ages too, although I suspect that had a lot to do with COVID issues. But it still felt too early to retire it.

To be fair, the post is real - I've seen it myself. The content is obviously sarcastic... There's another Instagram post just gone up saying: I do appreciate what LAN members do, but it tickled me. -

If it's a LEGO exclusive, it's highly unlikely to be discounted. Best would be 2x VIP with a good GWP. Titanic and the Colosseum feel like good comparisons, as they're exclusive and expensive. No discounts from LEGO, and I've not seen any going 'cheap' second hand, as they're not the kind of sets that you impressed purchase and then regret later. If it goes out to retail partners, then maybe more of a chance of a discount, but that will vary by region. -

Have to agree. If you started with nothing and asked for just one Indy set, it would be the temple run scene. It's the most iconic thing in the entire franchise, and they've done it really well. Obviously it would be nicer to have more, and having something taken away is much more painful than being given something unexpected, so it's hard to view it like that. But you're right. On the reveal, the sets are still a month away and most sets don't get press releases until a few weeks beforehand. Rivendell was revealed just under four weeks before release, so it could be any time now for Indy if they follow the same pattern. But equally I could see their plan to reveal and release the first wave of sets as the way to build excitement ahead of the movie release, and then release the second wave with the movie. If the second wave has been cancelled, I suspect that they'd still stick with that same plan anyway. All of which is to say that if they were taking it seriously, I can totally see them not revealing much before release. And if they're not taking it seriously, LEGO just lists loads of new sets for sale with no fanfare anyway, so it's hardly surprising. I don't usually buy sets day 1, but I might have to get all of these April 1st, just in case they decide to pull them early in their run... -

Completely agree that it's unfair to compare directly and all your points are fair. I was more pointing out that there is a wide range of demand for LEGO, from unexpected places. Here's to them developing more in both lines - there are probably some LOTR fans amongst the BTS fanbase who have just purchased their first LEGO set and may look for more. Nice! I find 'small' purchases to complete MOCs (or in my case things from Rebrickable) so much more satisfying than buying a ready-packed LEGO set. Something in the effort required to do it? Must be even better with a MOC. Do you have any pictures? -

I turned up early at my local store on Titanic release day. I was in the area and wanted to get something, so figured I'd wait for 20 minutes until it opened. I didn't realize it was Titanic release day, and they were shocked when I turned down the ticket to buy Titanic and instead went for the Corner Garage. So it can happen. Also, whilst I don't want to diminish the excitement and awesomeness of Rivendell, I think it's worth noting that it's still available to buy online. Whereas the BTS Ideas set that so many people seemed to hate was sold out within a few hours. Obviously it's not really for most people here (me included) and Rivendell very much is (me included). But the cries of 'why doesn't LEGO listen to us' might need to be calmed down a little. Still hoping for more LOTR sets in future though, especially if they can sell this many $500 so quickly. -

RichardGoring replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
There's still a chance that the ToD set is a LEGO exclusive, which is why it wouldn't show up in stores. If it had indeed been cancelled months ago, that should have been enough time to remove it from the packaging of the other three. Maybe. Either way, we'll find out soon. -

Well, that's curious. Rivendell is gone from the LEGO website. Not showing in the Lord of the Rings theme selector (only Brickheadz), and coming up as 'This item could not be found' on my wishlist. -

This could be excellent, if true. Personally I'd love something from the Imperials to go along with my Caribbean Clipper and fight against the PoBB.

Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
Three OT sets have shown up on a retailer listing and we've seen images, suggesting they're happening. The ToD set was rumoured a few days ago to have been delayed, which then exploded into people speculating that it had been cancelled (and a whole load of stuff about why, all of which was wild speculation). Then some credible leakers started saying that it had been cancelled and cancelled months ago, but it turns out that's because the listings haven't appeared, so it's still speculation. And it could be that the set has been delayed rather than cancelled, but no one knows (or at least has confirmed that they know). No one has had confirmation of the DoD sets yet, for the same reason that they've not shown up in retailer listings. Which has led to yet more speculative jumps that the entire DoD wave has also be cancelled. It's all speculation. Waiting it out is probably best here. But there has been a leak of a new figure on Instagram and Reddit, of Indy with the new hat/hair and spiderwebs on his face. Oh, and blurry images of all 'four' OT sets a few weeks ago. -

Well, well, Variety is reporting that Warner Bros is talking about new LOTR movies - Lord of the Rings New Movies Set at Warner Bros - Variety As with all of these things, you have no idea whether it's ever going to amount to anything, but the money involved in their previous films, and how much Amazon is pumping into it, suggests that they think there is value in producing content. And LEGO has the relationship with Warner Bros for sets (and probably not with Amazon, yet), so it might lead to more LOTR sets in the future (although these films, if they ever happen, could be ten years away still). -

It's just the size seems very small to fit in the entrance hall, dining room, and the lab, so none of them will likely have much detail or scale to them, which is a shame as those locations are all very large in the movie. Then again, if you did it to scale, it would be a $500, and we probably don't need ANOTHER one of those right now.
