Just watched JANG's review of the RioBricks Black Pearl. I have nothing against other brands, but I don't like this one, but I'm not sure why. Anyway, it made me think if the odd name of 10365 as Captain Jack Sparrow's Pirate Ship is because they can't copyright or trademark 'Black Pearl', but they can for 'Jack Sparrow', so they're going for route of being able to sue copycats more easily instead of more successful marketing to sell more in the first place.

Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Gearslover01's topic in LEGO Town
No. Just speculation and wishlisting. -
I was just musing over the included crew and it's probably fair. But I wonder why Ro Laren as the GWP figure as opposed to Tasha Yar, Chief O'Brien, or Dr Pulaski, all of whom felt like they had larger overall roles. Maybe that's just me. Ooh, even more fun would have been Lwazana Troi or Q. But maybe they decided on the shuttle craft and Ro Laren was the best option for piloting it.

I watched Tiago Catarino's review and Racing Brick's, both of which were very good. The way they talked about the build experience has tipped me into getting it. The way they both thought it was ludicrously overpriced entrenched my position to wait until a major offer or sale comes along because it really is very expensive, especially when compared to the Endurance.
-
Something generic seems sensible. I was shocked to see 40729 Shackleton's Lifeboat listed locally for $120 the other day. Even now on Bricklink the current cheapest set in the US is $85, and the six month average sale price is $75. Crazy and there are not event any exclusive prints. But the two head pieces are locked in expensive sets and so have both low inventory and high prices on Bricklink.

The only reason I ever buy a set day 1 is if there is a compelling GWP/offer. It is indeed the only incentive that makes me buy something at all, as I know something will come up eventually and I can wait. This GWP holds no interest for me at all. While it's part of PotC, it doesn't fit with the ship at all and is a massive lost opportunity for them to do something interesting. Agreed. I had to look up who Anamaria was, and when it said argued with Jack about stealing her ship I remembered the scene, but she was clearly a forgettable character. I suppose I like pirates generally, as opposed to PotC specifically, but I enjoyed the films and will watch them again in future too, so I'm not disinterested. Probably still squarely in the target market for this set.

It looks good and the mechanisms are nice and smooth. But it makes the Endurance look like incredible value by comparison. The GWP is no incentive at all to me. And I wonder if it's all too cramped to be a play set, which I really feel that any pirate themed set should be. I won't get it on release, and hope it comes to other retailers for a discount, but I will probably get it eventually. It just doesn't excite me. I don't feel the thrill of adventure with it at all, which is odd.

Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces
RichardGoring replied to LegoPercyJ's topic in LEGO Licensed
I've been figuring out which parts have been removed from my cart. Thank goodness for all the Bricklink sellers out there! Over the weekend I placed three Bricklink orders for things I couldn't get from Pick a Brick and all will be arriving in the next few days. I'm having a lot of fun building things from Rebrickable at the moment, but that may slow down if the service doesn't resume, as it's often hard to get what you need on Bricklink from only a few sellers, and after that postage costs really ramp up. -
Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Gearslover01's topic in LEGO Town
I didn't get the station originally and then got most of it in a bulk buy and came to like it. I spent quite a lot on Bricklink (relatively) adding in the missing pieces. My kids love the bus for quite a lot of additional play value, and I like the colour that it brings to the set. I see what you mean about wanting a larger station, but I personally see this as a small village train station which feels familiar to me and any larger would make it out of proportion with the rest of the village. Also looking forward to the new set to see if it brings something new. A different style of station to go with the train would be terrific. Purely because I have the original, I think a north pole style one would be good to connect the two, but that may be too many in a row. -

That's frustrating. I had a cart that I hadn't fully saved. Have to remember what I was going to order and hope it comes back soon. -
Sonic the Hedgehog - Rumours and Discussion

To be honest, I think just the controller is better. If they tried to do the whole thing it would be a pretty simple black box at this scale. The controller is nicely done and can be added to the Ideas Green Hill Zone very well. -
Disney Properties 2025 - Rumors & Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
I am trying to do something like this with my Disney castle and having a devil of a time creating the garlands. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to create them? Especially the dense looking examples in the second image. I've tried 2423 Plant Leaves 4 x 3 with 2x and 3x 19119 Plant Flower Stem with Bar and 6 Stems. And also tried 2417 Plant Leaves 6 x 5 with either 3x 19119 Plant Flower Stem with Bar and 6 Stems or 2x 19119 Plant Flower Stem with Bar and 6 Stems and 1x 24855 Plant Flower Stem with Bar Holder, Bar, and 3 Stems. All using 24866 Plate, Round 1 x 1 with Flower Edge (5 Petals) on the stalks. In all instances the garlands I create look quite sparse in comparison with those below, but I can't add anything else to them as there is no room. I would love some thoughts on this, or any guidance anyone can provide. Thanks so much! -

Latest news about Lego animal moulds
RichardGoring replied to Roebuck's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Two of the animal CMFs have leaked. The crocodile in full and a very poor quality photo of the fish mask. The crocodile looks OK. Pretty much what you'd expect really. Nothing especially noteworthy. The fish on the other hand almost looks like a scaled up rubber duck as it's a large yellow ball with orange lips (and then into a small body with orange tail and fins). Seems a bit odd and not entirely sure that the minifigure will be that great to go with it. A fish with legs?- 5,902 replies

Agreed. A new larger curved slope would have been good for a variety of reasons. Still looking forward to the full reveal and decent quality photos.

Agreed. It looks great. I love the boat and the way large swatches of colour have been added everywhere. Hope we get a video of the function soon. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I have the Detectives office on one side and then a 50s car wash and music store that Bricky Bricks did on LEGO ideas that I pieced together. I like the Detectives office as it has that Americana downtown feel that is similar to the Downtown Diner, and I think the tan building part of D fits nicely with the DO. I have the Palace Cinema next as it also has Americana vibes, but less so, and it's so large in comparison that it might look odd directly next to it. -
LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Lyichir's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
They don't typically do that though? Expensive elements are reintroduced semi-regularly that tank secondary market prices for them. They rereleased the red and white ones with 10497, so why not blue now. Although they don't do minifigures with these characters since the first, so it's unlikely anyway. Correct. It's the large buildable figures like this - https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/up-scaled-racing-driver-minifigure-40819 -
LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion

It's a shame they don't do minifigures with the upscaled models anymore so we can get a non-Benny blue torso. -

Yes! I have a bunch of them on my (non-LOTR) orcs to add a bit of variety to them, as part of a fantasy castle setting.- 178 replies

The mascot style, showing only the eyes is also good for Halloween costumes, so I could see the style still being used at some point in the future.- 178 replies
