Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Just to bring it back, ever so slightly, to modulars, I'm currently putting together Lego Artisan's SitComplex MOC of the various sitcom sets. It's really fun for the most part. The core of the excellent sitcom sets are retained, but then he's added details to complete it into a modular building. It's a different scale from the standard modulars - maybe more like the Ghostbusters' Firehouse or Home Alone. I do somewhat regret keeping all the sets in their original bags, plus separate bags for all the additional parts needed. But as I've been building it over several weeks, it felt like the easiest way to get it all out and put it all back again between building sessions. P.S. It's tomorrow very soon. -
Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion

LEGO typically does Christmas in July, and will restock the set. I suggest getting it then, because trying to find it later in the year can be stressful, and it will likely retire at the end of next year. -
LEGO Monkie Kid 2022
RichardGoring replied to Anonknee Muss's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
It's easy to compare it to Ninjago City, but remember, it's half the price point. I think for the price, it's terrific. The design means it's an excellent playset as is, but also allows customization to for into an AFOL setup alongside NC. -

There's always something to disappoint in a battle pack. At least they're consistent. -

I'm also in the 'early modulars aren't great' camp. They set up a fabulous series, but looking back now, they're not to the same standard. I bought a second copy of the Diner with a view to creating the Car Wash. When I got into it, there's not many pieces that overlap, so it's not really a saving. Although now it's retired, it definitely wouldn't be cheaper! I really hope we get a version of it through the Bricklink Designer Program in the future. It's such a cool set. Bricky_Brick's modulars are awesome and deserve to be built. -
Thanks! Will do! Might take me a while to build it though. Need to move house before I have space for it. Hopefully soon.

Yes, I'm tempted to put some lighting in it. Not sure whether to light the engines and display them outward, or try to get some shadows on it, to make it dramatic like the box art. But looking forward to it!

Curiously, the Titanic set is marked as an Ideas set in the LEGO Instructions app, and not in Creator.

The clip looks like it's dark bluish grey, and in comparison to that, I think the owl is sand blue.- 5,934 replies

I think it's very clever. A 2 in 1 (maybe more) that keeps the same core frame, but you can then quickly change things around. It allows more varied play and encourages actual building on a regular basis, without it seeming like you've 'lost' the original set. Also, it looks cool. -

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Promobricks says that there will be a double VIP event Dec 10-11. And that there will be a GWP promotion starting Dec 6 that isn't on the calendar. They also speculate that the white reindeer is in the Santa's Living Room GWP or another, as yet unknown GWP. I'm not so sure about this, as the reindeer graphic is also currently used in the store displays and I think it's likely a graphic design decision to look nice and blend in with the white aesthestic of a Christmas snow scene, rather than a large area of colour alongside the large area of colour on the girl. They have loads of rebuild the world things in the store displays and calendars that are great, but never turn into sets. LEGO Store Calendar December 2021: Preview of new set and double VIP points? Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Home Alone just feels like it's on a different scale to the other WV sets though. Not just larger, but a different scale. I think it comes from trying to represent a real-world place. It's the same with the sitcom sets and The Simpsons. Compare that to the modulars or WV sets which are impressions of places and so don't need realistic scales. I do think that the modulars and WV are the same scale. Different sizes, as they represent different types of building, but they feel more cohesive to me. Home Alone and the sitcom sets stand out a bit too much. However, it's nitpicking, and I certainly think that you could put them all together and have something that still looks fabulous. -

My understanding is that they will release instructions, which seems to have changed from the original plan. Although they may be something you pay for, which is fine. In such a complex operation, delivery times is something I feel ok compromising on. If they have limited production capacity, then allow the sets to sell, ideally to a many people as want them, and then decide how long it will take to deliver.
