  1. The information topic is live! Now is the time for you guys (and gals) to start asking silly interesting questions
  2. I discussed it with @Andman and we figured "let's see how this develops". Can you post a link to the topic you mentioned? Maybe we can merge both topics.

  4. [PROMO IMAGE TO BE CREATED] TECHNIC STUDLESS RECREATION CONTEST - INFORMATION TOPIC This contest is all about recreating a classic studded set, using contemporary studless LEGO Technic. The main voting criteria is whether you have replicated the sets as close as possible! DESCRIPTION Select a studded LEGO set (or part of a set) and create a studless Technic version (replica if you will) of this set. Lots of classic LEGO sets won't have as many functions as we are used to in Technic, but it's okay to add some functions not present in the original set. However, please don't add functions because you think more is better. The idea behind the contest is to replicate the chosen set as close as possible. It is allowed to replace colors, because it will be necessary in some cases, but you need to stay as close to the original as possible. Don't turn a yellow car into a red car, simply because you like red better. The best entries are the ones which are instantly recognizable without a picture of the original. Keep that in mind. The deadline date is Monday, the 9th of August 2021. The contest will be closed on Tuesday, the 10th of August, OR LATER. Disclaimer: I will close the contest when I see fit, and when I have the time to process the results. This can be later than the deadline date. Please don't complain about this not being fair and all. RULES AND REGULATIONS The following section describes the contest-specific and general rules and regulations. But before that, please take notice of a simple motto regarding the Eurobricks Contests: CONTESTS ARE FOR FUN! Of course, there's competition, but at the end of the day, LEGO is just a hobby and the main goal for each of us is to have fun! CONTEST SPECIFIC RULES AND REGULATIONS There is no scale limitation, but the closer the scale matches the original scale, the better. Try to stay as close to the original as possible. There are no part or size limitations. Try to stay as close to the original as possible. New functions are permitted, but not encouraged. Try to stay as close to the original as possible. Color substitution is permitted, but not encouraged. Try to stay as close to the original as possible. Using some system parts is permitted, but the model should be considered studless! Model Team style building is not permitted. You can use system parts but keep it mainly Technic (studless in this case). 3rd party Strings, Hoses and Rubber Bands are permitted. Mindstorms and LEGO Electronics are not permitted. SBrick, Buwizz and PFxBrick are not permitted. 3rd party tires are not permitted. Other 3rd party parts are not permitted. GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS Each entry needs to have a name (no name, no entry). The contest is open to all EB members (also new members). Members can be banned from voting (when vote rigging is suspected). Voting rules will be explained later in the voting topic. One entry per member. Entries need to be new (never posted anywhere previously or shown at an event/LUG meeting). Only physical builds, so no LDD or other virtual entry. If you have any doubts about the suitability of your entry contact me, or Milan. All entries are to include only real LEGO. No clone brands, 3rd party parts, or digital entries allowed. Custom stickers are allowed. No cutting, sculpting or modifying parts. Entries are to be placed in the entry topic in this forum. Entries not in the entry topic are not eligible for voting. The entry post may be edited at any time up to the end of the contest, so feel free to make improvements if you wish. The contest might be closed later than the deadline. Don't complain about this not being fair. You have enough time to build. Don't ask for more time. We reserve the right to disqualify any entry that does not follow these rules. These rules can be changed whenever we see fit to ensure that people follow the intent of the contest. Jury members are not eligible to participate. WHAT DO I NEED TO ENTER? All participants need to create a discussion topic and create a post in the entry topic. DISCUSSION TOPIC A discussion topic starting with [TC20]. A discussion topic needs to show some actual progress (i.e. pictures of the build in progress) and should NOT be used to "reserve an idea". ENTRY POST The entry post in the entry topic should contain: Entry name One or more images (max 4). You can have combined pictures (4 in 1) as long as the picture isn't bigger than 1024x1024. Include the set number and a picture (actual photo or downloaded image) of the original model. Embedded video is not mandatory this time Link to your discussion topic VOTING The voting scheme will be partially public and partially jury (Milan and myself). Only members who have 50 posts or more are eligible to vote . If you have fewer posts, you can vote, but your votes will be automatically excluded from the tally. More details about how voting goes down will follow. Voting criteria are (in no particular order, except the first and most important criterium): True to the original Quality of the build. Looks (shape, color scheme, etc). Functionality. Originality. PRIZES This time we do have a big prize for the winner and two small sets for the runners up. 1st PRIZE The winner gets this awesome set! Or one of the ones below if he/she prefers hehe. 2nd PRIZE 3rd PRIZE The runner up gets dibs on one of the two sets below and the one completing the podium gets the other set.
  5. Like I stated earlier; you can pretty much do anything you like. But the contest is about replicating an older studded set (or part of a set). So you can use different colors, but the more you deviate from the original, the less "points" you will get. However, it doesn't need to be an exact match (see Erik's comment below). This Yes. Nothing happens. No.
  6. I probably have the next contest covered. I will try to get my hands on some prizes, so we can move on right after this one. For now, let's focus on the current contest. I will try to get the current content topic published tonight.
  7. The contest is about recreating the model as close as possible. I’d recommend not turning a yellow model into a black model And studless doesn’t mean you can’t use studded parts at all. Just think about how modern studless set are designed.
  8. Hi. Please scroll back a few posts or pages. There’s a link to a topic explaining the issue. In short; you need to host the pictures elsewhere, Bricksafe or Flickr for example and use the link to embed them in your post.
  9. You just won the Volvo No electronics. Pick another set. Licensed is allowed. For everyone: I am AFK for the weekend, so will create the official topic on Monday. I will try to make that as clear as possible in the official topic. Need to think about that for a bit. Just remember; bigger isn't always better. I would love to see some smaller scale models. And we will have some form of jury voting Like I stated earlier; don't add unnecessary extra functions for the sake of adding stuff. This contest is about replicating an original model. The first one will get my vote in this case.
  10. The same rules as we usually apply. Any official LEGO part and 3rd party strings, hoses and rubber bands.
  11. No electronics. You need to make the model resemble the other model as close as possible. That means using the same color scheme. I know this won't always be possible, but you might want to reconsider your source model. True. That's because I still have some mixed feelings. Some things I need to think about. Reading the second line, you formulate that pretty well. Of course a car can have a piston engine, steering and suspension. But don't add stuff because more is better, if you understand what I mean. I'm okay with that!
  12. Well. that's debatable. Of course, you can add functions like steering etc, but this contest is about making a studless version of a studded model. This contest is not about looking for a fire truck in the City theme and creating a Technic Firetruck with thousands of functions. Maybe I need to clarify this in the voting criteria. It's not about making the coolest fire truck. It's about recreating a studded firetruck into a Technic studless one.
  13. Me too! I will be away for the weekend, but I post an official topic shortly.
  14. Rebuild a studded LEGO set (any theme) into a studless Technic version.
  15. Let's go with option A to make it more interesting, but we need to ditch the scale requirement. Rebuild a studded LEGO set (any theme) into a studless Technic version. Doesn't have to be an exact replica, but you need to get as close as possible. Use the same shapes Include as many details as possible etc There will be probably be some sort of jury voting or 50/50. No electronics
  16. Stuck between a rock and a hard place
  17. This is not in the spirit of the contest. Spybotics aren't studded LEGO sets, right?! Rebuild a studded LEGO set (Technic or other theme) into a studless Technic version. The scale thing can indeed be an issue. Hmmmm, how do we solve that. Maybe we need to lose the same scale rule. And maybe we need to skip electronics alltogether. That's not what this contes is about.
  18. I will work out the details, but this will probably be the contest. Rebuild a studded LEGO set into a Technic version. Doesn't have to be an exact replica, but you need to get as close as possible. Doesn't have to be the exact same scale, but you need to get as close as possible. There will be probably be some sort of jury voting or 50/50 or so. 1st prize will be
  19. This is a problem with most of the contests. We will do a contest with limits in the future, but not for this one.
  20. You of all people should be thrilled by Crazy....creations?! Since the majority of the people seem to prefer option B, I will do what every decent government would do....go for option A Jokes aside, I am still leaning towards option A to make it more fun and see more interesting (crazy) creations. I do think that I will be enforcing the "more or less the same scale" rule, so people won't be able to make a big yellow supercar, because there is a tiny LEGO car in City. So it needs to be (more or less) the same size/scale.
  21. I do like your example. That is basically the reason I don't want the contest to be limited to Technic sets only. But it's a slippery slope. This slippery slope. So it's either... Option A Rebuild any LEGO set into a studless Technic set. Option B Rebuild a studded Technic set into a studless Technic set.
  22. We are working on a GBC contest, but like I stated before; I will be supporting it, but I won't be the captain. Or as we say in Holland "I won't be pulling the cart" :D Let's keep it simple
  23. I was thinking about ANY studded LEGO set to make it more interesting, but I am not opposed to only Technic. What the majority wants. With an optional picture to show both sets side-by-side.
  24. So....I'm kinda leaning towards the studless remake idea.
  25. Nice! Thanks. Okay, looking at that video, I will abandon the modular car concept for the next context. Thanks for pointing it out.
