I'm not familiar with that, but I believe Audi recently revealed a concept vehicle with an adjustable wheelbase. -
Another Drift Car (WIP)

How does that battery work for you? I'm kind of intrigued by it--especially why it has six leads per plug! Could some sort of sensor be coming to this PF-based platform? -
A lot will depend on how much room you have inside the tractor, and where, but the simplest solution, in my opinion, would be to get rid of the bevel gears on the linear actuator and then use a universal joint instead to get the drive axle longitudinally mounted, where you could then easily add a motor.

That would work very well, and would allow all three speeds and the bed to be operated, but I was assuming that that wouldn't fit (and would definitely be a major modification) so I was just suggesting to hook it directly up to the wave selector, and then using its three different 90 degree positions to control the bed and two of the speeds (with the third one being ignored)

Probably part of this is a desire to get more usage out of the new parts released in certain colors (Though the Senna was a different blue than the Chiron. I hadn't noticed this either!

Could a Servo be worked into the space for the shifting motor with one of the gears just being ignored?

42130 - BMW M1000RR K66
2GodBDGlory replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I would expect that in order to achieve a realistic enough shape to please BMW they would need either a new mold or just the flexible plastic one again. A new mold would obviously look better, but if they can put the new-mold costs towards something more important and reusable (like a 32T gear!) I would be fine with that. -

I've designed a lot of gearboxes over the past few years, and, at least with current pieces, reliable sequential 6-speeds are extremely hard to make. Not that it's impossible, but I don't think it's too likely that they will do it, unfortunately -

Thanks! The older version is occasionally useful, but this one is a definite improvement. It's release somehow escaped me!- 5,504 replies

tractor 4wd drivetrain
2GodBDGlory replied to wower's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I think you could just get by with a central differential, but the tractor would probably have front torque vectoring because of the greater torque the smaller wheels provide, making it act a bit more like a front-drive than a rear-drive. Like 1gor says, it is a good idea to gear the front up relative to the rear, but I don't think you'll have to be too precise about it if you have the central diff as well. -

Could a 24T crown gear work any better? -

Those would be great to have, but I think the easiest (and hence most likely) improvements would be a ratcheting shifter, a 4-speed, and a clutch. -

According to the internet, the real bike has an I-4 engine and a six-speed transmission, so we can expect something along these lines. An actual 6-speed does seem doubtful to me, since sequential 6-speeds are very hard to build in Lego (I think it's usually easier to build an 8-speed and ignore 2 gears!) -
Zero's workshop
2GodBDGlory replied to Zerobricks's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I actually made myself a custom 12T clutch gear exactly as described. I'm not really sure why, though, since I've never really used it, and now I have two fewer pieces to use! Dang, you're right! We could have easily had a 28T clutch gear! -

I'm quite intrigued by this set. Larger tires should be very useful for making models at scales previously impossible. I also imagine that there will be both skinny and wide tires. There will very likely be a gearbox, and I'd expect a ratcheting shifter, unlike the Ducati and like the 1:8 supercars. Whether more functions, like a clutch or brakes, are included, is doubtful, but they should certainly have room. I guess there will be larger brake disc parts too. -
Nice work so far! I agree, this is going to be a major challenge, but I'm sure you can do it! @1gor Man, those suspension choices do sound juicy! There's a lot of suspension designs I'd like to model (Tatra, twist-beam, deDoin, pushrod, transverse leaf, etc.), but no cars using them I want to build!

I'm really not interested in this set. I was able to respect the Charger and Raptor for their suspension and modeling of legitimately cool real-world cars. This one not only seemingly loses the suspension, but also the real-car aspect (I'm not a Batman fan). I do like the black wheel covers, though!
