  1. Looks nice! In some ways that style is like a mid-2010s style, which is nostalgic for me now...
  2. That's about me too! I've got an idea for what I want to build, but I'm at my parents for a few weeks, and away from all my Lego (Except for a long-stalled 42145 Airbus alternate model project that I was hoping to work on), so we'll see if I jump into something in the new year
  3. Wow, very cool! I'm not familiar with clock mechanisms like that, and these are very neat to watch!
  4. Looks very cool! I do love the style of those rally Porsches. Hopefully you get the performance figured out! Also, are you flying all the way to Europe from NZ for that event? That's dedication!
  5. Yes, very nice! Good functionality and detail within the constraints of an alternate model
  6. Well, I guess it depends whose definition of illegal we would have been using. Some seem pretty draconian, and so a lot of models would be bending parts slightly beyond what would be allowed (I don't want to be doing math to ensure something is a perfect right triangle, if it works fine, for example!) Personally I'm probably more comfortable with illegal techniques than most people, but I think for a contest the only options are to ban such techniques with some documentation provided for what constitutes illegal, or to allow it and let voters decide if it bothers them or not. Just my thoughts, thanks!
  7. Wait, no illegal building techniques? I don't recall that being a rule on any past contests, and I feel like that could get really complicated really fast...
  8. I'd assume that you'd get more total power output out of four XL motors, but that would be harder to find space for, and in my experience, there are very few options to hard-couple four XL motors together without breaking parts!
  9. I think that's what I'd prefer. Animals are cool, but it's a pretty intense challenge, and I'm not sure many people would be up for it. I don't know if I would, to be honest! I hate missing contests, but trying to model both organic shapes and organic motions might be too intimidating for me to put off my other projects to compete
  10. Well, EV3/NXT is definitely incompatible with the rest, but the other four are at least somewhat compatible. I think if you wanted to build something using both a Spike hub and a Control+ hub, getting them to communicate might not be possible, but motors can generally be swapped between the four lower systems you mentioned. Powered Up and Control+ are very much the same system, with pretty much full compatibility (It's really just System vs Technic branding, and different apps). WeDo 2.0 has the same motors and some different sensors from the Spike ones, but I'm not sure where software support for those sensors is.
  11. I remember seeing and liking the WIP topic, so I'm glad to see that you finished the model! It looks good! Also, pics work fine for me, on web Firefox
  12. I continue to love this model! The change to Unimog tires and Defender rims is probably wise from a usability standpoint. The studfull dark green bodywork just looks so good, and the scale allows for some interesting techniques! The large-scale V8 is pretty cool too! Similar to the old 2x2 square ones, but, well, round!
  13. Yeah, that is mechanically impressive! Nice work!
  14. Engineering is all about balancing and compromising between large numbers of variables, isn't it! Good work!
  15. Yep! Though I feel like we're usually all disappointed and bored with the winter wave, and even if we're disappointed, the summer wave is usually more interesting
  16. I don't know about the British, but I'm pretty sure Canadian/American English would go with "dump truck"
  17. Great choice with the Arocs! That was my first real Technic set, and even apart from nostalgia, it's just so good for the money. I'd definitely agree that the new lineup isn't compelling, but the great thing is that Technic doesn't generally have great resale value, so you can pick up the greatest hits from years past, often under MSRP
  18. Wow! Interesting to see what appears to be a new product launch, without any marketing or mention of it anywhere I've been looking! Looks like a clever form factor
  19. Awesome! So they're not going to keep it to just 4N-1 increments. Hopefully we'll see 13L and 5L eventually. Ironically, I was about 95% sure that the black one on the tail was a 9L, and I was getting all excited! Then I scroll down, see better pictures, and realize that it's an 11, but then I see that there's actually still a 9L in it, just in white!
  20. Well, this gives me old Racers (well, Technic Racers) vibes! 8146, etc. Probably not in a good way, though
  21. Yeah, I'd agree that there should be a good generic one; I just wonder if that's been TLG's rationale to not do it. Though I suppose they have the good-looking-yet-generic Defender rims at larger scale, so they should be able to get away with something like that for a smaller scale.
