Escape from Dragon's Prison all the way. The prison wasn't the best, but it had useful extras for building a larger MOC. Plus 4 figures and a horse with barding. A great army building set for the price (especially since the barding can be expensive). Another good one was Prison Carriage Rescue for another great army building set. An extra horse, plus 3 figures.

Review: 6857 The Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape
TheLegoDr replied to halomaster96's topic in LEGO Licensed
I agree better pictures would make it easier to follow along. The reviewers academy seems to do wonders for everyone that joins. I purchased this set the moment we were able to and have had it for almost a week now. It really is a brilliant set. I didn't have any of the previous series, so this may be the only set I get this year since it has everything you need. Good luck on the next review. -
Thanks for the pictures. I never noticed a difference between the goblin and the orc. Of course, the Uruk were different. I can't wait to see final renditions of them in lego form! I am not as well versed in Tolkien mythology as others, so I will be happy with basically anything resembling the creatures/characters. Also, as far as Gandalf is concerned, I agree about a new beard and hat. But maybe they could do a wizard hat with the hair attached like in PotC. Granted, I much prefer being able to remove the hat to use on other people, that would be a new mold with an already present idea. It might add something to it. I'd also love to see something for Boromir to carry his shield on his back instead of always holding it. I thought that would be really neat to see. I rewatched all of the movies a few months ago because of the hint of a license so that just came to mind. And unless I missed something, by looking at those pictures we will get green orcs in Helm's Deep, reddish uruks in the Uruk army, and dark brown goblins in Moria. So isn't that what everyone wants? And unfortunately, everytime I look at those pictures, I like the prelim sets even more. The reason I say unfortunately is due to my bank account! To add to my post about 10 pages back, it is a nice addition to the dwarf being taller than the hobbits just by use of beard and helmet parts. Good thinking on TLG's part. I really hope the horse mold does allow it to stand up or go horizontal for a galloping appearance.

So as much as Americans like to complain about things, from that list, I can say I am really glad I live in the US. I don't think I could handle this hobby (addiction) if I lived elsewhere. I can hardly keep up as it is! And 2012 isn't looking any better... Thanks for the list. It is really informative. But to go along with that list, at least here in the US, I know some things vary per region of the country too. I'm sure certain toys and products may be relatively the same across the board, but little things like local taxes and cost of living can make leftover money be rather different. I'm sure that is stating the obvious and someone else probably mentioned something similar. I like the list though. Thanks.

Monster Fighters 2012
TheLegoDr replied to Darth Nihilus's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
This is news to me. I had no idea this was going to be a theme this next year! I used to love "monster" movies when I was little and this hits home well with me. I am unsure how TLG can release so many new sets in one year. There won't be enough shelf space!!!! On another note, I won't have enough money! But looking at these sets, I actually like the bulk of them. The CMF use is likely preliminary, but I would welcome them since I only have the werewolf monster and really want the other figures Bringing back the glow ghost shell is awesome, although I liked having 3 from early Castle sets. Now they won't be as rare And I like seeing a glow skeleton horse. Bring on the Hi-res pictures! -
I built the Funhouse Escape last night. It was a rather fun build. It definitely captures the crazy antics of what the Joker would have if he was trying to trap some people. I hope the other sets are a good build as well, although who knows if and when I'll get any of them since I have most of the characters I would want with this set.

It certainly looks abandoned. Great work. Clever use of some pieces. It makes you wonder how the truck's life was before it was abandoned.
-
Very clever build. I also really like the vintage camera. The interior works well. Good luck win the contest.

That police car is ridiculous. As in, awesome. Keep up the great work! I may have to try to build something like this.
-
Great shape to that donut! And great job on the Homer to the other post.

I was in the dark ages forever and this last year finally came out of it. I was starting to get into MOCing modular type buildings and was looking through them on Flickr. I somehow came across some MOCs people did on this site. I would read posts here and there, but didn't join until earlier this summer (about 4000 members ago) and have posted just about daily since then. I have come to love the early images of sets, the release dates, the discussions, and of course the MOCs. Keep up the great work EB. I'll still be around when we see another 20k members come through.

REVIEW: 6863 Batwing Battle Over Gotham City
TheLegoDr replied to montgocloud's topic in LEGO Licensed
Thanks for the review. I am still on the fence about this set, but this shows a bit more to help me decide. I don't have the earlier version, so to be a completist, I would have to get this set. But seeing I already have the Funhouse, I don't really want/need two Jokers (even though his copter is pretty sweet). The Batwing is a must have for vehicle purposes, but I'd much rather see him in a batmobile or tumbler or batcycle. The henchman is certainly a must have for this set. I will wait and see how I feel when I hold onto the box, but I think I may pass. Keep up the good reviews. -
If you look at the Mines of Moria box, it looks as if Gimli is just a little bit taller than the hobbit next to him. Which is exactly what people were wanting, different sized legs. More than likely it would be one millimeter or two, so very tiny difference, but maybe enough to add different heights to figures. I am all for that! I will reserve my judgment for the sets when I see better pictures. I am not too impressed right now, but I know they are early shots. I like the idea of the new horse mold, but at the same time I don't want many of them (which you will get when building up your Uruk-hai army battlepack) I like the new coor and would like some regular horse molds with that. I can understand having a few different action poses for horses for extra MOCability, but I don't want to build up my entire army with just that horse. And I would agree with other people about the sets with Merry and Pippin. I do believe you get basically every figure you would want (minus the lovely ladies and other Elves of course). I can't wait to see the new pictures. I'm surprised the pre-lims leaked so quickly though.

I love HP Lego. It is by far my most favorite theme. But I believe it is probably ending. But to keep the optimism alive I enjoy reading future "potential" sets. A new Hogsmeade type would be great. I missed out on the Shrieking Shack the first go round, so a new version would be neat. Certainly adding in Three Broomsticks and Hogs Head since they played such major roles in the story. Further additions to Diagon Alley would be (of course) Weasley Wizarding Wheezes. The only problem is they already came out with the twins in the other set which means they probably had no intention of doing their store. I am currently working on my own version to the scale of the Diagon Alley set shops, but if Lego did it for me, it would be easier haha. Further additions to Hogwarts would be great, especially if they incorporated the other two houses, but since the world revolved around Harry and Malfoy, they probably didn't see the purpose of doing any other houses. They had the perfect opportunity during the Goblet of Fire series to have some Hufflepuff themed colors/torsos, but as far as I can tell they avoided that. New figures are too numerous to name. As long as they didn't throw in any of the trio, I think they'd be set to add in a couple of other regulars that we need.

Great log cabin. It looks very cozy (as a cabin should) and it looks Christmassy to fit right into a village. Brilliant job. The endcaps are nice indeed. Keep up the good work. Good luck in the contest.
-
Very neat build. I like the use of the slopes for siding. It would make a great cedar shake look with the right color. I may have to borrow that idea in something. Keep up the good work.

I like "fleshies" in their own right. I haven't attempted to mix them due to the sharp contrast of tone. I understand the world is full of different tones, but if they had more inbetween yellow to "flesh" to help with the transition, it would be easier to incorporate them. However, if you are willing to modify the figures, just use a yellow sharpie permanent marker. It is an incredibly close match to the Lego yellow. I did that with a Jack Sparrow and you if I hadn't known I wouldn't be able to tell that it wasn't originally yellow. The reason it works is because even the yellow chest area on torsos isn't always a perfect match, it is normally off a little. So the flesh under yellow sharpie doesn't look much different than it normally looking. I'll have to post a picture sometime of the two side by side. (meaning, you can easily make elves and whatnot into yellow to match up with 'fantasy era' and the like). Although, maybe it won't be as easy in this next line with different molds or the plastic not accepting certain color modification applications. Either way, bring on the next line of castle oriented Lego. I am excited either way.

I love the roof and the door. Brilliant work. I almost want to build something with that roof style now. Good job.
-
I like the layout. The backstory really works well for this character. Those sirens are always getting their way, huh. I like the different levels of decay with those heads. Keep up the brilliant work.
-
As far as inaccuracies to the real Pearl, I will say this still looks like a great build and a great ship. I love the stern, even if it isn't exactly like the Pearl's. I think it adds something extra to this ship. And the lights at night picture looks incredible. Keep up the brilliant work.

The scale is massive. The fort looks awesome. The color scheme matches the redcoats exactly, but I wonder how it would look in a different color with just the white/red flags to accent it. Either way, it's brilliant and above what I can do.
-
Give nothing back! Great MOC. I really like the flames on the right side. The overall feel is great. I think those redcoats should be opening fire about now.
-
Brilliant MOC. I haven't seen the movie in years, but I can remember it well with this rendition. Great pub scene too!

Welcome aboard. Good to see more people from Nebraska on here. This site is a great resource for ideas and information on upcoming Lego sets, etc. I couldn't imagine parting with all of my old lego bricks. They sat in storage at my parent's house for approximately 16 years before I finally got back into them this last year. My daughter is starting to get into Duplo (she's 2) but she much prefers playing with my smaller scale items. And I bet they taste good too.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 6 Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Since they are capable of putting print on the sides of the legs/arms, why can't/don't they put printing on the back of the legs to avoid the "thong" issue. I agree, the Roman definitely needs a cape of some sort. Otherwise, the figures in the "flesh" look amazing. Much, much better than just in picture form.
