I guess I never really noticed the difference between the eyes. I knew it existed, but never noticed it. I also hadn't thought of putting the old redcoats with the old armada. Unfortunately, I don't think they mesh as well with the new redcoats, so we need to do something with them.

So far, every set with capes has had all the capes together in the little white box/packet thing. I've never had issues with missing a cape, but there is a first for everything. They have forgotten other pieces before. I have never called customer service, but I have emailed them and they sent out some missing pieces to me right away with free shipping, no questions asked. And it was in a POTC set, so that was licensed. But something as big as a cape, I don't know. Good luck! As far as the polybag sets... umm, I want! That'd be a great cheap set to get a black Batman! That's the only reason I want one of those other sets with black Bats. I may just buy a black Batman and call it good.

It would be very welcome to have more Harry Potter lego. It is what brought me out of my dark age and it is what makes me love Lego all the more. I was surprised at all the local shops having Kingdoms and Alien Conquest and Pharaoh's Quest being discontinued and heavily discounted, yet the earlier (2010) HP sets were still full price. I would think if they are discontinued as well, they would heavily discount them to get them off the shelves to allow room for other sets/themes. So either the fall 2010/summer 2011 HP sets are still selling well enough and maybe, just maybe, they will come out with some new sets. Or... I don't know another reason to put here. Let's hope for more HP!

Iron Man and Co. [Warning: Image-Heavy]
TheLegoDr replied to hjmediastudios's topic in LEGO Licensed
Very creative renditions. I am a fan of Iron Man, but only because of the recent movies. I never read any of the comics. Hopefully the new Lego version will be worthwhile. Keep up the great designs. -
Indy is full of adventure, isn't he? Great shots. Hope you had fun in Hawaii.

What will you remember from 2011 with Lego?
TheLegoDr replied to eliminator's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I came out of my dark ages in late 2010, so 2011 was all about my new interest and the new sets. What I remember most is how much money I've spent on sets throughout the year!! I've never added it up, nor will I ever. I joined Eurobricks and discovered Bricklink in 2011. Both are much needed and I don't know where I'd be without them in regards to Lego, that is. My daughter first got into Duplo this year, so that is exciting. Although, now we have to buy both Lego for me and Duplo for her, so it will be even more expensive this next year. I am most excited for the super hero sets, but hopefully the next wave will be more amazing since my excitement has died down. In 2012, I will be organizing my Lego room more, and hopefully MOCing more Harry Potter themed buildings/locations. Here's to a great 2012 for everyone! -
I prefer the photos in-thread. I rarely, if ever, click to view them on another website even if I like the MOC. It just makes it easier to scroll down and comment immediately instead of potentially commenting on another site that I would have to log into. But I agree on limits of the best 8 or 10 or whatever the limit is. Too many more, only diehards would want to look at all the details at different angles.

Review: 6858 - Catwoman Catcycle City Chase
TheLegoDr replied to AlexScammer's topic in LEGO Licensed
Thanks for the review. I already wanted this set since it has two great characters for such a low price, but these photos further confirm it. Catwoman looks much better now than when I first saw her. I really like the other side of her face. I already have the gray Batman, and I don't really care about the glider, but I might change my mind once I see it in person. Keep up the good reviews. -
Great builds. I'm not as big of a LOTR/Hobbit fan as others, but these are very inspiring. I especially like the wargs and the trees. Since I haven't read the Hobbit I don't know what any of these scenes are like, but even without knowing it, they look remarkably amazing. Keep up the good builds. Take that much deserved break.

This is a beautiful addition to the winter village! I love the color scheme and the overall design. The interior really adds some playability and makes one think there is a lot more under the surface. Keep up the great builds. Good luck in the contest! I won't be able to compete with this one.

Very nice city set-up. I think it comes together nicely with all the detailing on the buildings and the spacing of everything. It reminds me of a post-zombie apocalypse without any cars/people. I know you are adding that in later, but it gives off a creepy ghost town vibe. Nicely done. The gumball machine is very clever. Keep up the great builds.

Reason #697 To have a FCS Teacher as a partner.
TheLegoDr replied to dark1san's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
It isn't really false advertising if it says not all sets are included and you already knew the superhero sets weren't included. That is you taking advantage of an employee that doesn't know which sets were/weren't included. And in our TRU, it always says which sets aren't included on the sign. -
charlieboy The 32 boxed sets makes my measly 18 pale in comparison. Nice haul this year. I don't know what to do with all of mine, I can't imagine what they will do with all of theirs.

I just did the poll and have skimmed at some of the responses. I can see both sides of the argument here. There are things I like and dislike about this line. I'm not entirely sure why so many people are up in arms about the whole theme though. Girls like pink, some boys like pink. It doesn't matter the coloring really. I can tell a lot of AFOLs are excited for this to incorporate new colors into our existing Lego palette. If you look down a "girl" aisle at a store, it is filled with pinks and purples because for whatever reason that is what marketing has found a long time ago, and those dolls/colors have sold well. It makes sense TLG would do something similar and find similar results with their market research and offer those colors to the young girls. Most girls aren't walking down the Lego aisle because it has other action figures and "boy" toys that don't appeal to them. I would prefer Friends to be with the other Lego aisle so the parents and girls can see that there are other options available instead of ONLY pink and purple pieces. I do agree about the change in figure may exacerbate the current social stigma of skinny is better and normal is fat (when that is not the case at all). I much prefer a healthier image for young girls since they are more susceptible to the media. I am torn on this theme. I like the new pieces and colors, but I don't particularly care for the mini-dolls. Yes, I am a grown man so I'm not the target audience, but as an AFOL and purchaser for my daughter, I don't know if I want this to fail or succeed. I do not, however, think the theme is any more or less sexist than any other toy ever made, so why the sudden surge of controversy is beyond me. And to add to the discussion, we do buy Barbie for our daughter as well. But only the fully clothed, modest dolls, not the skank-style dolls that have no clothing. My wife was excited to see the new Rock Hudson doll because he had molded hair and a suit instead of the douche-y hair that the new Ken has. Anyway, that is for another time and place.

Thanks for the review. It will definitely help people get a feel for the set and what to expect. I like the new police hat for sure. I like that you can put two people in the vehicle also. Keep up the good reviews.

Interesting build. A coffee house is definitely a worthy addition to any winter village. I hope they serve hot cocoa also! Good luck with the contest.

If you can't build out, build up! Those towers are impressive. Keep up the good builds.

If those prices are at all near accurate, then I won't be able to buy that many and I'm sure many others will be in the same boat. I have no idea how you Aussies do it with those price increases. There are too many sets I want next year to be able to spend all my lego fund on LOTR. And I do agree that LOTR will have a huge following while it is available, but I could not picture it lasting 8-10 years. Unless they kept rehashing the same sets over and over with new mods, similar to some of the Harry Potter sets. HP at least had movies and books coming out during a good chunk of that time. We will get a few really good years with LOTR and they may continue it based on the initial surge, but if prices were that high for too long I can't imagine multiples being purchased. Especially of the uruk-hai set, which is THE army building set. I guess we will wait and see how expensive they actually are to determine how many multiples can be purchased.

Very clever build with a nice back story. I like the light brick and trans-yellow pieces. It really shines, so to speak. It's interesting seeing two dwarves without the trademark large beard. It's a nice change. Keep up the good builds.

Review: 6857 - The Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape
TheLegoDr replied to AlexScammer's topic in LEGO Licensed
I ordered this set the moment it was available, so I didn't wait for any reviews. But thanks for the review, seeing new photos of an existing set is always welcome. I think it must be an unfortunate mistake on printing and packaging for you because my instructions/comic came out as crisp as can be and none of my printing had any problems. The only thing I have noticed, the white on Harley's torso does have a slight pinkish hue similar to the early Kingdoms torsos. But I wouldn't say it is as bad as they were. Just not a brilliant white is all. Good luck with customer service. -
An internet tale Winchester/Shaun of the Dead project on CUUSOO
TheLegoDr replied to Yatkuu's topic in Special LEGO Themes
That's awesome. I remember that MOC, it definitely had a strong resemblance. Granted I haven't seen the movie since it came out. Good luck with everything. -
I've noticed that a lot with reddish-brown. It definitely irks me when it is off enough that it is extremely noticeable.
-
I concur about them being too large. It can be difficult to store them all, even when flattened. I have noticed everytime we order from S@H, the shipping box is really oversized as well. They don't even put much, if any, packing material, so a smaller box that fits the inner boxes perfectly would make more sense to me instead of wasting even more cardboard. Oh well, maybe they will shrink that down too in the coming years.

REVIEW: LEGO Friends 3933 Olivia's Inventor's Workshop
TheLegoDr replied to lostcarpark's topic in LEGO Town
Looks like a great little set. New colors are always welcome and some of the new pieces will look good too. I am excited for new hair for my minifigures. Plus I like them showing little girls that it is okay to be smart instead of just pretty. Keep up the good reviews. -
Great review. I am excited for these sets for a few reasons. One, my daughter is named Olivia (although she has blue eyes). Two, new colors. Three, more foliage and brown pieces!! This looks like it has a lot of new pieces that I will welcome into my collection. I may need to buy one for myself and one for my daughter. Good thing the price isn't too bad. Keep up the great reviews.
