That is a beautiful diorama. The scale looks great for a display. I am very impressed. I should try my hand at something like this. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the review. My wife/daughter will definitely want this set. And I am likely to oblige, depending on price. I think there are a few other Friends sets this summer that look appealing. The pieces are to be expected, but the roofing structure is an interesting choice. I guess it adds a nice SNOT look to it all. Getting a few horses with this and then the horse camp will be neat!

Thanks for the heads-up! I just ordered them and will take back my Wal-Mart purchases today. I will save over $70! Thanks to toysnbricks and djmangunz and barnes and noble for this great deal!

LEGO Star Wars 2012 Pictures and Rumors
TheLegoDr replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
The beauty of them re-releasing sets over time is the new improvements/colors/figures. Yes, figures are a selling point for many people (including me), but the set overall has to have some value to it. I only recently got into SW, but the 2012 waves are by far the best renditions of all the sets/figures (in my opinion). If I had earlier versions of those sets, I would probably still pick up the new versions just because of how beautiful they are, even though i would be reluctant about doing so. I am all for bricklinking figures and not buy the whole set, but from what I've seen, if you want the majority of the figures, it usually isn't that much more to just buy the entire set and get a lot of extra pieces for little money beyond the figure sales. That's the only reason I will be willing to buy Jabba and Palpatine sets. Otherwise, I would just bricklink the figures in all the summer sets and call it good. Heck, I would have done that for the first wave also, but most of the time the figures are ridiculously high all on their own. When I first got into Lego in the early 90s, I liked the figures, but the sets were the fun/selling point. Now you still have that, but beautiful figures to go along with them. I love the figures, but I actually do miss the 90s Lego with more simple figures. But that was well before the licensing frenzy also. -
I always wondered how you were able to buy all that Lego! I guess as long as you can pay the bills and provide food for everyone, then money can go elsewhere. I assumed she was the most understanding person in the world. According to Brickset, my SW collection is worth around $350. But I only started buying SW related Lego sets this year...that's a bit troubling. My overall collection is worth significantly more. Brickset doesn't have prices for over 100 of the sets I own, so who knows there. I should look into adjusting my insurance for that. Do you just call up your agent and tell them to add more insurance? I've never done that before I guess. I have a lot of other stuff I should look into insuring also.

Exactly! I don't have any interest in superman, so in order for people like me to buy a new set, I would need to see something new/exciting or some other obscure characters with Superman. The Wonder Woman helped sell that set for me. I didn't have any of the original Batman, so those were an easy sell for me. Something different would be great in the next wave! On second thought.. if they don't release that much new stuff, then it would actually be better because then I could save some money for once! haha

Sextant The trolls was brilliant. Probably pretty true to life too. Bilbo Baggins Both trolls are very true to their character interpretation based on the movies. To say one is better than the other is difficult since they are completely different ideas for a troll. But TLG nailed both of them!

Suddenly losing all interest in a whole theme?
TheLegoDr replied to purpleparadox's topic in General LEGO Discussion
That makes sense to prioritize some themes due to budget. I actually have gained interest in more themes lately than I was in before. I was strictly Harry Potter and then Kingdoms when it came out 2010/2011, and now I have all of the POTC, LOTR, SW, Monster Fighters, Kingdoms, Modulars, Winter Village, etc., etc. We definitely went overboard over the last few years and budget wise it was not so smart. I wish I could lose interest in a theme! And with more and more sets coming out, it is tough to decide what to buy. It is smart for Lego to release multiple sets so people will want to overspend when the time comes, but then it makes a lot of people sad when they can't get all of the sets they want since most themes have such limited releases any more. -
Multiverse I am a huge Harry Potter nut, so the Knight Bus was very pleasing for me. But I have heard others not so happy with the shape. Since all of those sets are at different price points, is there a certain limit you were looking to spend? If you are into modifying the sets, the Queen Anne's Revenge could use some. Otherwise, the color scheme and overall design is nice, just doesn't have much of a cabin. It does have some exclusive figures if you are into that. Since all of those sets come from different themes, is there a specific theme that interests you the most. I am really into Lord of the Rings now that Lego has made them, so the Mines set would be really neat despite the stickers. But if the figures do nothing for you, the overall set probably isn't worth it. TrumpetKing67 Since those are at two different prices and two very different themes, why not get both? It could be a Spongebob in a post-apocalyptic world theme.

I'm actually a bit disappointed. The set itself looks awesome with some great details and a huge piece count. But the price is the one thing keeping me from getting this. A lower piece count than the Modulars (which people keep comparing it to for some reason) and it costs more isn't making it as appealing. When I first saw the prelim photos, I was very excited. I saw the ghosts flying around, so I assumed it would only have a few ghosts and call it good. I'm sure the addition of all those figures, a few of which we will get repeats of, jacks up the price quite a bit. I can only assume the Bride will be pretty pricey on bricklink only being in 2 expensive sets. People are saying they will replace the castle with this set. That isn't too bad of an idea, other than the fact that this is almost double with less figures. I guess it all comes down to what you want displayed or torn apart for pieces. I definitely like this set and the castle, but like most others, I can't afford every large set. I may have to save money and go with the castle in the end just for money sake. Which is unfortunate because this thing is a beauty.

Since only getting into SW over the last few months, I am so far off from ever getting one. I'm only at around 5% since I have over 1000 posts total. I didn't know a thing about tags when I first signed on.

REVIEW: 9464 The Vampyre Hearse
TheLegoDr replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Thanks for the review. This is the one Monster Fighters set I plan on passing on. The reason being the figures will come in different sets. The hearse itself is very over-the-top and looks decent for what you get. I like the bike very much, but I will still pass on the set. The GITD items are neat in this theme though, although I heard they don't last very long. -
It said I was a purist MOCer, of which is probably true. I haven't done a lot of MOCs, but I don't destroy Lego either. I like considering reviews, but I have yet to do any officially. Interesting personality test.

'STAR WARS DARK BUCKET' project has reached 10K supporters on
TheLegoDr replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Since the average price of a storm trooper is $6.32 with over 300 available on bricklink, that'd be the way to go. In the CUUSOO description they said it would cost $300-400, so that'd still be a steal! -
LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 8 Rumours & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Piranha's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Since they have nice new wings with the Geonosians in Star Wars, I don't see why they couldn't/wouldn't have those type of "fairy" wings in the CMF. If both of those came to be, I would oddly enough army build them I'm sure! To think, an entire army of female elves... haha I am excited to hear further news. I've been exciting ever since we knew there would be a series 8! C'mon TLG, don't keep any more secrets! -
That is brilliant! I don't have enough money to buy the large one, but I'd rather build this mini one so it doesn't take up so much room. I love it. Keep up the great work!

I don't think that is an actual crack. I think it is just a seam, probably having to do with the mold and/or color. I've seen that before on other figures. Never once phased me to be a crack. The fact that it has happened other times with the same piece makes me think it is just a random seam, depending on how the figure is positioned under the mold when it gets painted, that would explain the different locations. Either way, it didn't bother me, so I'm surprised Lego sent a replacement. If it really is a crack, then I should request a replacement also.

I think they are pretty self-explanatory. You hold the one end with the studs to either go above or below bricks attached together to separate. Sometimes I use two at the same time to get both the top/bottom to remove easier. The smooth end on the opposite side is great for digging underneath tiles to pop them up. And then the axle rod of course helps take those pieces out. It is a really brilliant/useful tool that I use quite a bit actually. I just happen to have like 20 of them now with this years sets. I only recently got into SW, so I'm not in loooove with it. However, the more I see it, the more I want it. Lego did a great job with printing this year (it is a great year to begin SW collecting). I actually prefer all of the newer figures over the originals, even with size differences. I will definitely pick this set up for the figures and pieces. I can only imagine the figures will go for a pretty penny in the aftermarket anyway. Seeing it displayed like that makes me want to build it and not tear it apart, when I was originally going to buy it and piece it out for other MOCs. It looks like a nice set, even with that price tag. But yes, it is a bit steep. I will probably wait until Christmas for this one. Thanks for the review! It was very informative and it was good seeing some new angles of it.

That is awesome. I've only recently started collecting the Lego SW world, but this is really neat to see. I would almost consider doing something similar to house my other Licensed figures as well. Keep some nice themes going with brickbuilt displays. I just need to take the time to think about that. But this is brilliantly done. The lettering and stars with the ships is amazing and well thought-out. I'd hate to directly copy something like this, but I may have to "borrow" some build techniques to justify it. Thanks for the shot. It looks great. Can't wait to see the expansion!

As expensive of a license would be to secure for DC and Marvel, I would guarantee another wave. I don't have any details, but TLG would be business-incompetent to only secure a one year license since this is a growing theme.

Suddenly losing all interest in a whole theme?
TheLegoDr replied to purpleparadox's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I wouldn't say I necessarily lost interest in a whole theme. More than likely I never wanted/liked an entire theme to begin with. I don't particularly care for a lot of the themes out there. I don't like ninjago spinjitsu, but my daughter likes seeing the things spin around. I liked some of the figures from various themes, but sometimes the actual sets do not appeal to me (regardless of theme or skin tone). With that in mind, I like Pirates/Castle and am now getting into SW, so seeing those figures in "fleshie" isn't a huge problem. The printing and the figures are really neat seeing Gibbs or Gimli or someone in Lego form, it is worth it to be in "fleshie," but I also love the original yellow. The only thing I don't like is not being able to mix them, to make my figures interact together. Some people don't have a problem with it, but I just can't seem to make it look right. Yellow is too extreme of a color for some reason. The POTC zombies in the dark orange/nougat color and the dark brown/reddish brown plus "fleshie" worked well together because it was not so in your face yellow. Keep in mind, I love the original yellow figures. But I couldn't imagine some of these figures in yellow form (like the early days of SW). The bigger problem is budget. How can I purchase every single set I want, regardless of what theme it is attached to? I don't think there ever will be an answer to that question. -
That car is beautiful! I definitely want to attempt something similar for my city. My dad has multiple classic cars in his garage, so I've always been a fan. I should build one of these for him. It will be a much smaller version than the one he is building for me, haha.
-
I have seen them before and as much as I would want to get something for free, I am an honest person that could/would never steal. I ended up just leaving them there and didn't tell anyone, so I'm sure someone else probably stole them afterwards. But I should have let someone know. More than likely they wouldn't do much about it, other than put it in their discard pile, but at least they would know. They may keep a closer look out in the future though. If it was a figure I absolutely needed and it had all the pieces there, I would probably try to buy it. I've opened food in the store before to help calm down our toddler for a snack, and we take it up there to buy it and the cashier just asks, "you know this is opened right? Do you still want to buy it?" They may say something similar with a toy. And I have also seen feces in a store before. It was in a changing room though. Someone either thought it was the restroom, or they are just a sick individual and have no human decency.

Thanks for the positive feedback. It was my first build, but after not looking at it for almost 2 months, I can see a lot of things I would do differently. But I'm still glad I built it. Yes, the revolving door involves a turntable on the bottom and an upside down one on the top to hold the 1x2 clear tile in place. Luckily I had the one old set it came in, otherwise I don't know what I would do. I'm pretty pleased with it.

What size helmets can fit into a clear dome?
TheLegoDr replied to badbob001's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I never even thought about doing something like that. That is brilliant. I may have to try it. I have lots of the old helmets and a few of the domes. Very clever. I do not know about hairpieces though, I'll look into that.
