LEGO Star Wars 2024 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
ARC2149Nova replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Counterpoint, she married Luke and continued the Skywalker Legacy, was a Jedi Master who played a vital role in the YV War, and was all-round pretty awesome until her death at the hands of the real Kylo Ren, Jacen Solo aka Darth Caedus. Dammit, now I want a Darth Caedus minifig, too. -
That is a sensible argument. I've seen Star Wars classified as Science Fantasy, which is probably the most accurate description. Also, Star Wars' being set in the past is debatable. Some theorize that it's a long time ago from someone else's perspective (say R2-D2) and still in the far future, but that's just nerd talk. For all intents and purposes, it reads like a fairy tale.

Thank God someone gets this. I'm so tired of people not understanding the entire point of that interaction. It doesn't help that later Star Wars writers were too stupid to understand that and decided to make sense of an obvious lie. (Looking at you, Solo. And yes, I'm aware Legends did the same. It was stupid then, too) Ah yes, because sci-fi never takes artistic liberties with the laws of physics. Literally every sci-fi anything ever. Or is pseudo-science too fake to be sci-fi? Star Trek, Halo, Green Lantern, Flash Gordon, War of the Worlds, I could go on. There are always fantastical elements in science fiction, the science itself is fiction. I agree that Star Wars is more accurately defined as Science Fantasy, but that's a blend of both the Science Fiction genre, and the Fantasy genre. Two things can be true at the same time. Besides, a lot of the tech in the OT is designed in the style of hard sci-fi, with few fantasy elements thrown in (such as faster than light travel, which is scientifically impossible).

More Hasbro collabs, mainly Power Rangers and GI Joe (I know these have a building license, I'm ignoring that) For GI Joe, Lego could skirt around the real-world military and weapons by giving everyone the laser rifles from the cartoon. Since our own ISB Agent did a wishlist, I'll conceptualize some sets Steel Brigade Battle Pack ($14.99): 2x Male Steel Brigade, Female Steel Brigade. AWE Striker COBRA Battle Pack ($14.99): 2x Cobra Trooper, Cobra Viper. COBRA Ferret Polar Battle Bear ($9.99): Snow Job, Snow Serpent COBRA Flight Pod ($19.99): Duke, Cobra Commander, Tele-Viper VAMP ($24.99): Flint, Lady Jaye, Roadblock, Major Bludd Water Moccasin ($29.99): Copperhead, Zartan, Shipwreck, Torpedo. HISS Tank ($39.99): Scarlett, Snake Eyes, Baroness, Destro, HISS Driver COBRA Rattler ($59.99): Wild Weasel, Cobra Paratrooper Dragonfly ($49.99): Wild Bill, Airborne, Stalker Or failing all of that: COBRA Terrordrome ($249.99): Includes a Firebat, VAMP, and Sky Hawk. Serpentor, Cobra Commander, Baroness, Destro, Zartan, Storm Shadow, Major Bludd, Zarana, Firefly, Tele-Viper, 2x Cobra Viper, BAT, Duke, Scarlett, Snake Eyes, Flint, Lady Jaye, Roadblock, Stalker, Gung-Ho, Tunnel Rat, Low-Light. For Power Rangers, I'd love a megazord set similar to Voltron. Figures include Jason, Kimberly, Billy, Zack, Trini, and Tommy (molded helmets with extra hair pieces), Rita and Goldar.

They all taste the same...they are clones after all. -
6. We get Option 4, but it's comic figures and Batman still reigns supreme. I don't care for movie figures anyway. It messes with my OCD to mix comic and movie figures (only exception being 2013 Zod for some reason). Props for comic accuracy, but dear God does the Terrific mask look stupid in live action. I get it, though. There's no way around it.

Wasn't into Lego until 2009, so I missed the boat on the original Batman sets. My first was the Catwoman Catcycle City Chase from 2012. From there, I got the Lex Luthor Power Armor, Aquaman on Ice, Black Zero Escape (which I bought to get the Robin Cycle from ToysRus), 2014's main catalogue of Penguin Face-Off, Riddler Chase, and Joker Steam Roller, Green Lantern vs Sinestro, Clash of Heroes from BvS, Gotham City Cycle Chase, Knightcrawler and Atlantis sets from Justice League, Mr. Freeze Batcycle Battle, and Battinson and Catwoman Cycles. From there, I own most of the polybag figures (Nightwing, Trickster, MM, Plastic Man, Cosmic Boy, Jessica, Batman '92), the Create You Own Adventure book with John Stewart, the Cyborg and Wonder Woman dimensions packs, Superboy target figure, Green Arrow from Dimensions, Mister Freeze, Riddle Racer, Batmobile, Lowrider, Fearful Face-Off, and Cave Pod from TLBM, as well as several of the CMFs. Other than that, I've bricklinked and ebay'd a ton of the figures I'm missing, slowly completing the collection that way.

If it's written well, you can kickstart a DCU with fraggin' Ambush Bug. People seem to forget that new things captivate audiences all the time. If it looks good (even if it looks bad, see the Acolyte) people will flock to it and like it. Batman's great and all, but other heroes need to get the spotlight. I don't think current storytelling climates would stay true to classic shows, so a continuation of previously cancelled works, while exciting on paper, wouldn't mesh all that well in actuality. For a tame example of this, X-Men 97, while great, doesn't match the original show's tone. For a more egregious example of this, Young Justice. Season 3 was tolerable, but Season 4 completely lost the plot, AKA the show's storytelling structure went out the window. So, while I'd love to see all of Bruce Timm's Lantern plans to come to fruition (and I always imagined GLTAS and BTB sharing the same universe), I'm afraid it wouldn't be the same.

I think the Tantive IV set already puts that idea to rest. It's not really a battle pack, sure, but Lego doesn't care. I've always believed in two things: 327th Supremacy, and 212th Supremacy . I'd happily take either or over another 501st pack (unless it include my boy Denal, that I'll allow) I also got a chuckle out of "Double Death Trooper". "bUt tHe BuNkeR iSn'T BiG eNouGh!" _ someone, inevitably (I personally would prefer the bunker to the village, too. Much more useful imo) -
All very good points. The Trinity was cast well (writing notwithstanding), the others were horrible misses. Mamoa as Lobo makes a lot more sense than Aquaman. I will admit that Ray could've worked if given better material. Gunn goes the complete opposite way, though. Too wacky for my taste. A balance is needed for these characters to work well. And for new fans to not get the wrong idea about these characters when they (possibly) pick up a comic. Guardians of the Galaxy will never be the same after the Gunn movies, and I for one am not entirely happy about that. The JLI seems well suited to Gunn's style, I'll admit (its certainly the most free-spirited Justice League), so he may do a great job at writing them. I just don't want to see Kal-Quill of Krypton.
-
Snyder screwed up every Justice Leaguer, save for Wonder Woman. And I liked Ben and Henry in their roles. Gunn will likely do the same. Both directors write characters as they see them, not as they are (still not happy about Adam Homelander ), so until I see Superman, I am not giving Gunn any slack. Keeping Ezra Miller was such a brainless move by WB that it's really no wonder the DCEU died. At least Mera was hot. Reverse-Miller went on a career suicide speed run (no pun intended), and still kept his job. That's honestly impressive.

None of these will do. I need my 327th Battle Pack and I need it now. I've waited over 10 years for this. Also, we just got a phase 2 shiny battle pack. Time to break out the rest of the Power Rang-I mean, clones -

Half of Death Watch looks identical anyway, I don't see much issue with army-building both factions. I do see why it's appealing to view the loyalists as unique, but they are still generic. -

The 2012 X-Wing and TIE are pretty great. Never owned them, but my buddy had the X-Wing and it was awesome. I've always admired those two sets. I'm only slightly intrigued by the Rebel Pilot, since it's always good to have new ones, but not making them an established character is unfortunate. I agree though, there's too much canon (and legends) content for Lego to be wasting slots on their own thing. It was fine in 2013, imo, before Disney gave us a slew of new content, even the Freemakers sets didn't feel like they interfered with the other Star Wars content. This just seems poorly timed. The Droid Factory set looks horrible, like it's objectively bad, the RTG, while an interesting concept, didn't need three sets and its own cast, I'll let the mech slide, it seems that most themes will have a mech sub-line, but I can agree that this year pales in comparison to summer waves past. I still remember the 2013 wave like it was yesterday, those were the days. -
I know you said one off, but since you included Red Robin, I'll just post my most wanted list, Superman: New 52, Black Suit Wonder Woman: New 52 Trunks Batman: The Dark Knight Returns The Flash: Wally West (90s), Blue Lantern Green Lantern: Kyle Rayner (90s), Parallax Robin: Carrie Kelly Batgirl: Cassandra Cain Black Canary: Justice League International

It appears to be unique to this character. Which is unfortunate, as we could've gotten Zal Dinnes' helmet instead (same color scheme, but inverted), but I like it. You can never have too many Rebel Pilots. -

L3-G0 is brilliant! I also love the new Rebel Pilot, and both canon builds seem decent. Even if L3-G0 is secretly a spy for McDonald's, it'll go down as one of the best minifigures in history.
