[LEGO IDEAS] The Royal Flagship
Brickander Brickumnus replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Pirate MOCs
Excellent ship! I like it a lot! Love the two cannon decks! And that it can be split in 3 parts! I have voted for this some time ago and I really hope it gets 10.000 votes and then LEGO approved, but I try not to keep my expectations very high. Just a few observations, according to my opinion and visual perspective: 1. The sails seem to be a little small or few, compared to the whole size and height of the main ship. It is a bigger ship than the 10210 Imperial Flagship, so I think it needs at least the same number and volume of masts and sails. So one big main mast in the center and 2 slightly shorter masts. 2. The front mast maybe it needs to be moved a little backwards. 3. Mast rigging is essential and needs to be added (both for realism and play-ability). Even a simple one will make a huge difference, like using parts 2541-6057-47996. 4. Add this type of sail to the rear mast (green circle):- 10 replies

I read the designers interview, and frankly I don't care about their selling marketing storytelling for this set. This is a toy, so I judge but what I see and what I touch. Their narrative leaves me completely indifferent. I'm very happy and excited for this set because of the great ship it has (probably the best Pirates Theme ship LEGO has released so far, can't wait to build it and hold it in my hands!) and the possibility that, together with the 3-in-1 Pirate ship coming soon, it will lead to more Pirates sets being released in the near feature. And this is the reason why I'm going to buy it. Then I'm going to build the ship and with the spare base parts I'll build my own pirate base. The Idea was about a Pirate Base... I voted about a Pirate Base... they made a shipwrecked ship which can be made into a ship. So as I said... so true.

Hmmm... perhaps you are right and this is a subtle hint. But I'm wandering, what was the sales success of the Islanders sets compared to Pirates and Imperials? I believe it was pretty low. Frankly, Islanders is the only thing from the LEGO Pirates Theme that leaves me completely indifferent. I didn't even know about the existence of these sets till some months ago!

After carefully watching the video review and examining the pictures, it is clear to me that I'll have to do some modding to the middle section of the ship, in order to bring it to my taste and be able to have easy access to the interior from the top, like the easy access to the captain's cabin... and most importantly... to be able to accommodate and carry 8 cannons! Maybe even 10! I mean, what kind of a pirate ship would it be if it can't have cannons? (By the way, I hate it when LEGO does not include the maximum potential cannon load of a ship set that releases, or that it does not sell cannons independently, either in single cannon or multi cannon set) I'll use the interior pieces somewhere else. I love the capstan! Brilliant! And so many details! It's awesome! I agree a lot to these, and it got me thinking if maybe, it would be best for me to buy just one set, for the ship... and use the remaining pieces (and the €200 I'll save, plus add some more €, for extra piece purchase... a lot of them to be honest) and to try to build the original Pirate Bay Idea myself. Maybe with some changes due to certain pieces unavailability. I hope the Original Designer makes the Pirate Bay plans available or at least sell them. €400 for 2 of this set, seems too much the more I examine it. Personally, with the way LEGO has made this set after all, I'm much more attracted to it because of the ship rather than the base.

OMG! It's so botched compared to the original Idea! I'm very disappointed. Mainly because of the expectations the original Idea created. On the other hand, I'm very happy that we have a new pirate set. And it's probably the best pirate set LEGO has released. I'm going to buy 2 sets too, for the same reason. Sneaky, cunning LEGO. You just found a new way to get a lot of our money...

Future LEGO Pirates Set Speculation

I found the post with the Black Seas Barracuda... but what poll about bases? EDIT: I think I found it... I'm not too familiar with Instagram, never-mind. -

Well. it's not stealing. LEGO just has to cut these particular parts in half. And the versatility and potential of the builds will increase a lot. -
Oh my god! This is absolutely so fantastic! How come you haven't upload the pictures on Flickr?

Excellent @pantelis! The only thing i find a little strange is the small balcony, with no access to it. Maybe add it to LEGO Ideas?

Although I am more than happy to relieve you of this heavy burden of pirate sets that rests heavily on your shoulders, I have to admit that I wouldn't sell anything if I was in your place (unless I had more than one piece of some sets).

This is so clever and convenient! How did you do it exactly?

Yeah, it's a nice idea, but you need a shitload of sets in order to successfully implement it. 3 Government factions (British, French, Spanish) 2 Pirates factions (Redbeard, Brickbeard/Blackbeard?) 1 Islander faction Any chance for a better quality of these photos?
