Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion
sebastian666 replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
I actually think this is a legitimate possibility. A post acknowledging Harry’s birthday and maybe a little teaser that says something about the best place to buy a wizard’s birthday present would make a lot of sense. Here in the US, we are also expecting some other big news to be revealed tomorrow / this weekend: Vice President Biden’s official announcement of his running mate. This will be a major news event (in the US and possibly abroad) as we anticipate Biden to make the historic decision to appoint a Black woman as his Vice President. This may seem totally irrelevant to the timing of a major toy reveal, but if you were LEGO’s marketing team would you want to announce one of your biggest most expensive product launches on a day that social media will be completely saturated with news of the VP announcement? -
Jurassic World 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

I’m kind of stoked for the bioluminescent Parasaurolophus in Camp Cretaceous. It makes me think of all the creative ways the franchise could rethink how the dinosaurs appear in future films. Like we know Biosyn is back in Jurassic World Dominion - what if their dinosaurs look different from Ingen’s? More accurate based on modern paleontology? Colorful plumage on the raptors, bioluminescent and camouflage abilities, etc. I really hope we get some LEGO sets based on this Netflix series. The early reviews have got me very excited. -

I agree. And @Falconfan1414 never confirmed that he saw the sets. In fact, his response to folks who were assuming he had was that their assumptions were wrong. I don’t think we will be disappointed because we really haven’t been majorly disappointed by anything LEGO has done with this series. But I think everyone can make that decision for themselves. -

I agree ?. I think it looks great and I see so much potential for LEGO to make kid-appropriate sets from this show. -

I have a feeling Hermione will be featured in her “winter wear.” She has a distinct gray knit cap and scarf that I think fans would like. Either that or the purple and gray outfit she wears when she hurls the magic birds at Won Won. -

Have you seen them both? That’s the impression I think @Falconfan1414 was trying to give us with that comment, as well. Maybe he can confirm if that was his intention or if he just meant they will both, undoubtedly, be great. We are dying over here. -

You are correct. Grindelwald’s escape on the thestral carriage was heavily featured in the marketing and promotion of FB2, which did not come out until November 2018 - several months after the LEGO set was released. It’s pretty standard for toy and merch to come out well in advance of a movie’s release. Look at the Star Wars’ Force Friday events which were designed to hype whatever new movie is being released later that year. -

I agree with you on your Bell Towers prediction, but I wouldn’t hold my breath for Umbridge’s office. As @Accio Lego already mentioned, next year’s wave of sets will be primarily Deathly Hallows based. (I imagine LEGO had also planned to release a few Fantastic Beasts 3 sets in the next wave but, with all the uncertainty in the film industry right now, I anticipate FB3 will be postponed. Hopefully, that will open up a few slots for LEGO to fill in a few missing sets from the previous waves.) If I had to wager a guess on the 2021 wave, I’d say: - Hogwarts Bell Towers (large set w/ library, Hufflepuff common room, staircase and belfries where Harry and Voldemort duel) - Escape from Gringott’s (medium set w/ Ukrainian Ironbelly dragon, Lestrange vault, and mine cart) - Skirmish at Malfoy Manor (medium set w/ main hall and dungeon) - The Forest of Dean (small set w/ tent build, sword of Gryffindor in the lake, doe patronus) - The Chamber of Secrets (small two-level tower set w/ girls bathroom and Slytherin common room on second floor, Slytherin Head build and snake hall on first floor, new Basilisk build, Fawkes w outstretched wings) - Durmstrang Ship (large set w/ Karkaroff and Triwizard champions in lake challenge gear, mermaids, Grindylows) -

Does anyone else think the big D2C Diagon Alley reveal could be coming today? It’s the first day of San Diego Comic Con! Yesterday’s Advent Calendar pics felt like an appetizer for the main course we all have been waiting for. -

A small Chamber of Secrets set like this featuring a brick built Basilisk w a new head mould, a Fawkes w outstretched wings, Harry, Ginny, and a Head of Slytherin build would be perfect in my mind. Maybe LEGO would feel generous and even throw in a new mold for the Sword of Gryffindor. -

I don’t really hate the Horntail either. I added one of the tail segments to its neck to elongate it and it looks more like a dragon and less like a bird of prey now. But I’d at least want a new head mold for the Ironbelly. -

This list is absolute perfection. And you are not alone in wanting a new Padfoot mold. He’s supposed to be an Irish wolfhound (massive) and none of the current dog molds come close to the right size for him. The only animal molds I would add to your list are: Baby Thestral Fawkes w Outstretched Wings Ron’s Terrier Patronus Ukrainian Ironbelly (I’d love a totally molded dragon like Smaug, but I would settle for a new head mold) -

A prototype of Fang??? Does anyone else know about this? If they made a prototype, then we are likely to get him at some point, right? Hopefully in a Forbidden Forest set with Draco and Harry (and a unicorn!) -

No news. A LEGO store employee who was asked said there’s a possibility they won’t even be available by September 1. Which makes me worried about the D2C and CMF releases here... I recommend ordering the sets from Zavvi UK. The sets only cost a few dollars more than the US price, and they arrive in a few business days. -
Jurassic World 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

Same here. I think we are almost guaranteed to get a couple kid-friendly LEGO sets based on Camp Cretaceous or possibly another season of LEGO Legends of Isla Nublar. Now that the Jurassic franchise has moved out of the parks and into the real world, I think Universal’s licensing and merchandising team will be thinking creatively for how to keep a younger audience excited and invested in the content. Camp Cretaceous is a perfect example. I imagine we will still get one or two bigger LEGO sets based on Dominion (maybe one will feature that big crashed cargo plane in the snowy Arctic that’s leaked with a bunch of dinos attacking it), but the rest will be in fun park environments. Fingers crossed, we may even get a throwback set or two from Jurassic Park. I’m praying for either the Ford Explorer with the T-Rex or the JEEP with a brachiosaurus. -

I’m pretty sure that the Fantastic Beasts characters were not a last minute addition to the first CMF series. The whole impetus behind bringing back the LEGO Harry Potter theme in 2018 was the marketing and merchandising blitz surrounding the release of the second Fantastic Beasts film. Thankfully, we fans proved that we will still buy up Harry Potter merchandise like hot cakes with or without a new film release. It’s why since 2018, we’ve seen a massive new influx of Harry Potter merch on the market - everything from Pottery Barn bedspreads and home decor to Funko POP figures and LEGO sets. https://www.theguardian.com/books/shortcuts/2019/jan/04/harry-potter-and-the-explosion-of-hogwarts-merchandise -
Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

I agree ?. But I’ve heard rumors that we won’t get Fantastic Beasts 3 next year and that the future of the entire FB franchise is in jeopardy. https://ew.com/movies/fantastic-beasts-franchise-future-jk-rowling/ If the movie is delayed another year, I wonder what that will mean for next year’s LEGO sets. Hopefully it translates to a few extra spots available for some big “fantastic beasts” sets from the original films. I’m hoping for a Troll in the Dungeon set that connects anywhere on the interior of the castle like the Room of Requirement does. Same for a Fluffy set. And obviously we still need a proper set with the ultimate fantastic beast from the original films - the Basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets. -

Thanks so much for the detailed and thoughtful response @Guyon2002. Really appreciate it. It’s good to have someone on the forum who is well informed and up to date on these issues. I am hoping that, no matter what Universal decides, the quality of Jurassic World Dominion doesn’t take a hit as you said. Do you follow any particular outlets for your Jurassic World updates? I’ve just been using Google News but I found this YouTube channel by Klayton Fioriti recently which is pretty good: -

I doubt it will ever get made, but if it did... I imagine it could be done along the same lines as the D2C Tower of Orthanc. I agree with you - I bet there would be some really clever building techniques involved to get the shape of the hollow triangular tower just right. And look at all the amazing minifigs it could include (along with a swarm of Dementors): -

Just saw some troubling news in Forbes: https://www.forbes.com/sites/scottmendelson/2020/07/18/james-bond-jurassic-world-no-time-to-die-daniel-craig-matrix-keanu-reeves-godzilla-kong-box-office/ It sounds like Universal is seriously considering giving the Bond movie (which was supposed to come out in a few months) Jurassic World Dominion’s June 2021 release and pushing back Jurassic World to November 2021. I wonder if this shift would effect the LEGO sets at all. If the movie is still coming out next year, I don’t see why they wouldn’t still release the sets. Maybe instead of a June release, they will go for a September release to more closely coincide with the movie’s promotion. I’m not an expert on this stuff, so I wonder if anyone else on the forum has any more insight? I agree with what @Guyon2002 said recently - I would rather them have more time to get the movie right than anything else. -

Haha I will definitely deserve it if they troll me, but it’s worth a shot! And I would love a Death Eaters’ Destruction of the Millenium Bridge set! Can you imagine it? It would go great with the Big Ben set! I wonder if anyone has made a MOC of it yet... Hmm... I would love this set too! How have I never thought of these?? -

Can you please stop? Human rights are not an issue that you get to disagree on. Trans lives matter. JK Rowling’s statements about trans women are harmful. But do I agree with cancel culture? Absolutely not. I can look past the person and appreciate the world she and the filmmakers created - which was diverse and inclusive and served as a magical escape for me as a little kid growing up gay. No one can ever tell me to stop loving the Wizarding World and no one can convince me to stop buying Harry Potter LEGO or other merch as some form of protest. Can we please get back to LEGO now? We have so much exciting news to discuss! I think I may still try to slip in my sneaky question about what the designers’ dream sets to design for Harry Potter would be...
