Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion
sebastian666 replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
Sad to say, but I think you’re right. I just spoke with the manager of my local Barnes & Noble, which only recently reopened on a limited basis. He said the staff knew the sets were coming well in advance of July last year. They haven’t received any word about them yet this year. He said he doubts they are coming before August. I think I’m going to bite the bullet and order the Astronomy Tower now. What was the name of that German site folks mentioned that was cheaper than eBay? Barnes and Noble has them exclusively from 7/1 - 7/31. At least here in my state, that’s how it was. -

Are you or any of our other fellow Americans on here still holding out hope that Barnes & Noble will get the sets as an exclusive early release from July 1-31 again? It wasn’t until June 17 that we got the good news last year: -

Your setup looks great. Love how you’ve incorporated all of the fantastic beasts. I still need to get the parts for the three tiny towers attached the Grand Staircase tower. I think you shared the pieces you used for them on here a while back. Do you mind if I ask how you expanded your Grand Staircase tower? My main problem with some of the current mods of that tower is that people just buy two Great Hall sets and stack the Grand Staircase pieces on top of one another. It looks like you are using a completely different piece, which more accurately depicts the enormous circumference of that tower. Unpopular opinion: I would much rather get the Leaky Cauldron as part of the $400 D2C Diagon Alley than Weasley Wizard Wheezes. I never really liked how WWW’s garish purple and orange colors clashed against the rest of Diagon Alley in HBP... and for the majority of the movies (1-5), WWW doesn’t even exist, so it would make sense to focus the D2C on those iconic moments we experience Diagon Alley in the first several movies. WWW also has a much higher chance of selling like hot cakes as a $100 standalone set next year. On the other hand, if we don’t get a Leaky Cauldron in the D2C, I don’t think we will ever get one as a stand alone set. All this being said, as a betting man, I still put my money on the fact that we will be getting WWW in the D2C. It’s such a fan favorite (just not mine) that I think people may riot if it’s not included. -

Love these predictions. Especially the “random” witch and wizard - Daedalus and Doris - and the “mannequins” with the quidditch robes. I think loads of fans are hoping for Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff robes. -

I have a strong feeling that the D2C will include some part of the Leaky Cauldron in addition to the GWP layout - even if it’s just the moving brick wall with some kind of action element - because it’s such an iconic part of Diagon Alley. I’d personally just put him right by that brick wall. I’d also swap out Quality Quidditch Supplies (even though that scene with the Firebolt in the shop window is also iconic) for a bit of the Leaky Cauldron in a heart beat. -

Your layout looks great. Love the lighting. I would recommend moving the section of castle that you currently have Hermione standing on over to the left so it’s between the Great Hall and the Yule Ball segments. It makes for a much smoother and more linear display. There is no official recommendation from LEGO on where to put the Room of Requirement, but I think it looks best connected to the Greenhouse and facing inward so it forms a bit of a semi circle around the back of the Astronomy Tower set. -

Taking @Falconfan1414’s latest statement into account, and acknowledging that noknow’s clues were hot air... It sounds like we are on track to get a D2C Diagon Alley set that will not feature Borgin & Burke’s and will probably be a system scale version of the Diagon Alley GWP. Given these new developments, I’m curious to hear which minifigs folks expect for this set. My updated list includes: - Hagrid - Harry Potter - Gringott’s Goblins x 2 - Ollivander - Gilderoy Lockhart - Lucius Malfoy - Draco Malfoy - Ginny Weasley - Dean Thomas - Angelina Johnson - Cho Chang - Hermione Granger - Ron Weasley - Fred Weasley - George Weasley - Tom the Innkeeper -

I could not disagree with your statement around “political fads” more. This is a forum for rumors and discussion around LEGO Harry Potter, and JK Rowling’s statements have very real implications on the future of this line and the Harry Potter brand in general. To be clear - Human rights are not a matter of opinion or debate. Black lives matter. Trans lives matter. LEGO as a brand has come out publicly in support of these statements. LEGO’s position on these issues effects representation in future sets including the rumored D2C Diagon Alley set. The color of specific minifigs representing minority communities, which has been hotly debated here, is part of this. I, for one, feel certain that LEGO would not release a set based on the Wizarding World community that does not feature some characters of color - Dean Thomas, Angelina Johnson, Cho Chang, etc. Regarding JK Rowling’s specific comments - I feel like if you are not a citizen of the United Kingdom, you cannot really comment on this. Rowling is referring to some very specific policies that would erase sex and gender in the UK. This would also potentially erase benefits and protections for women around childbirth, breast and ovarian cancer, and more. Let’s not all start trying to serve as mini-mods on this forum. We have very capable mods who volunteer their time to make sure these conversations are safe, inclusive, and on-topic - and I appreciate them immensely for their time and effort. -

I am going to get a whole box too. Doesn’t LEGO S@H sell them by the box? -

Thank you for this @Falconfan1414! My money is still on the big set that people want being a minifig scale Diagon Alley in the same layout as the GWP Diagon Alley (another theory noknow made a point of shooting down). No Burgin & Burke’s as noknow boldly claimed. Just Gringott’s, Ollivander’s, Quality Quidditch Supplies, Flourish & Blott’s, and Weasley Wizard Wheeze. Any word on WHEN this evidence is going to be revealed? Those of us in the US are desperate for some info to keep us going while we wait for the sets to be released here. Thanks again. -

I feel like this means we are getting D2C Diagon Alley but without Borgin & Burke’s since that was the one shop youknowwho went out of his way to “confirm.” -

I disagree. We are talking about a 2020 LEGO Harry Potter D2C set. I think the conversation is fine right where it is. -

I can also see a $400 D2C Gringott’s set as a possibility. Something similar in design to the Creator Expert Corner Garage set: https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/corner-garage-10264 but quite a bit taller and longer, with the marble entrance hall with the chandeliers taking up the second / third floors and some interior roller coaster tracks on the “ground floor” as the Gringott’s Vault. I also see LEGO wanting to redeem itself after the highly criticized Hungarian Horntail dragon with a Ukrainian Ironbelly dragon that is more similar in design and complexity as the D2C T-Rex. The dragon is massive at Universal Studios, with one of its wings draping all the way from the roof of Gringott’s down to the first floor of the building. It would be cool if they added some light brick elements to make the dragon look like it’s breathing fire. All this being said, I don’t know that even a big iconic building with a coaster and a big dragon build would warrant a $400 price tag. I could be wrong. Harry Potter is one of the most lucrative licenses in history, after all. I think it would be smart of LEGO to release the rest of Diagon Alley as separate modular sets next year. Just throwing out ideas since everything is up in the air now. -

This looks AMAZING! I love how you’ve backlit everything. I am planning to separate that one little section of castle that you have currently have Hermione on and use that between the Great Hall and the Yule Ball sections to create a bit of a smoother transition from GH to CT, but this looks great -

Does anyone one know how far in advance they leaked before CMF Series 1? With a September 1 release date, I’m guessing we’ll see them mid-July, but I really hope some elements start leaking sooner. Like I would pay money to see a little blue Cornish Pixie accessory. That would sustain me until for at least a couple weeks -

Such a good question. I have a long list: - Fang (I guess he’s more of a medium creature than a small one) - Crookshanks - Pygmy Puff - Pigwidgeon (baby owl) - Baby Thestral - Baby Norbert - a proper Bowtruckle - a purple printed pentagon shaped chocolate frog box - a printed Bertie Bott’s box - a mug of Butterbeer - a new Werewolf mold head for Professor Lupin - a big mean Hog’s Head to hang inside Hog’s Head Tavern (like the one in Universal Studios’ Wizarding World) - Grindylow - The Elder Wand - Cornish Pixie (I want LOTS of these. Part of the reason I’m planning to get a whole box of CMF Series 2 is that I’m banking on this being Professor Lockhart’s accessory - if we get Lockhart) - And finally - I know this isn’t technically a small creature but I have waited for this Lego piece my entire life - a UNICORN. How cool would it be to get a Forbidden Forest set from Philsophers Stone that featured: Harry, Draco, Fang, Firenze, Caped Quirrel/Voldy, and a Unicorn. How could I forget Fluffy and Padfoot?! Must have these too. -

Yes! Haha You’re right. I always forget to count WW as a set. Thanks for catching that. I agree ?. I think the layout will be very similar to the GWP Diagon Alley with all the shops lining up neatly on a street like the current City Expert sets. -

Thanks for the advice. I think I’m going to wait, as well. I have a feeling Barnes & Noble will have the sets July 1 just like last year. It’s so tempting though... Can’t wait to see photos of how folks choose to connect all three (three and a half technically) castle sets. -

Did you get yours from eBay too? I’m so tempted to just order mine now but $180 is twice retail. -

Do we, though? Even Falconfan (I believe it was Falconfan - apologies if it was someone else on here) said it was possible Kingnono had a source in the beginning. I’d be careful on asserting what we “know” and don’t know. People were listing Kingnono’s clues as “confirmed” facts on here just a few days ago, while others were careful to continue referring to them as rumors. Anything is possible. Only time will tell.
