"Or more likely he didn't want to walk in on something." "I do now - Thank you." "<Clone that card.>" "<PROCESSING. . .>" "<Switch to Night Mode.>" "<NIGHT MODE ACTIVE>" Yelana glanced around the room. "Okay. . . Not sure where the noises were coming from, but this is just a mess! At least it should make our job easier - No one would ever know we were here."
-
"Oh, I. . . Sorry - You're a traveller, not a spy. I don't actually think he's cute - he looks like the kind of creep who wears orange gardening shoes as a fashion-statement - I just needed a way to start a conversation, since there's a good possibility he's one of our targets. I didn't want to look sus, so I had to make sending the drink over look like a flirty, spur-of-the-moment thing. Sorry I confused you - I didn't mean any disrespect."
-
Yelana leaned over towards Zaria and lowered her voice. "Uh. . . What was that about? Did I say something I shouldn't have?"
-
"Well, one, 'Irgonstead's' problems are now our problems, so we need to take things a bit more seriously. And two, the only way we knew where to meet 'Irgonstead' was through the posting in the Hall - Either someone else saw it there, or the transmission was intercepted. Remember, 'Irgonstead' isn't that guy's real name, so even if someone knew about the device, they wouldn't know what name the tickets were under."
-
"I mean, IDK - The Society is working with M-Tec on their big PR move - I mean, 'reconstruction efforts' - in Nendara, but if 'Irgonstead' is right and the device actually is from one of Aluriel's moons, I don't know how or why the Society would be directly involved. It's definitely something we should keep an eye on, though." "Yeah. . . About that - My sister always says I'm kind of a lightweight. I'll have a club soda, with three slices of Ki'moor lemon." "Oh, you meant. . . right. What kind of noises?" Yelana glanced around the car, slipping the chopstick back into her hair as she did. "You know what, we'll check it out - If you send that cute Dwarf over there a drink for me. Whatever he wants. Deal?" OoC:
-
Yelana surveyed the passengers as she walked down the aisle of the car. "Hmmm. . . <Initiate multispectral sensor sweep - Locate any radiation and energy signatures, and scan for comm chatter or transponder beacons.>" "<SCANNING. . . >" Yelana looked at Soren for a moment, then sat down awkwardly beside Zaria. "You'd think these seats would be bigger. . ." Shifting a bit in her seat, Yelana continued to twirl the chopstick. "What'd she say? I thought I saw an Elf with their logo - Same person or no?" "So, I've been thinking about that. Whoever yoinked our tickets doesn't just know about the device - They also know 'Irgonstead's' exact plan. Remember how he thought he'd already briefed us? I think someone else found out about this mission, got to the depot before we could, then left before we got there. That explains a lot, but unless the Hall has more than one rat problem, I'm not sure how that intel could've gotten out. By the way, I think I may have a lead on that other team. I got a better look at that guy in the hood by the ticket counter - O'Kor'uk, male, I think, and wearing armour. When he walked off, he met up with two others wearing similar cloaks - It could be nothing, but it's a hell of a coincidence."
-
"Okay, not how I would've handled that, but not bad. <Initiate sensor sweep.>" "<SWEEP INITIATED>" Yelana tries again to identify the cloaked figure, looks over the crowd, then checks her visor's psychic filter for signs of unease. "Physical tickets. . . Interesting." Yelana took a chopstick out of her hair and began spinning it around her fingers. "Sure. . . But do we have any idea what our plan is? I've got a few thoughts, but nothing concrete - And besides, you're the leader here." OoC:
-
Yelana surveyed the crowd, her eyes flicking from one person to another. "Hmm. . . No sign of the targets, things look fairly normal. . ." Yelana looked towards the Human on the bench beside her. "<Probably Blackguard - Get confirmation, scan that datapad, and enhance local audio.>" "<PROCESSING. . .>" Catching up to the rest of the party in the ticket line, Yelana tapped Zaria on the arm. "See anything? . . Shit. By the kiosk - Black hood, energy sword; I can't make out the species from this angle. <Enhance visual and identify.>" "<PROCESSING. . .>" "Yeah, no - We're not doing that. By the way, what's our cover? We need to find that device, but it could be almost anywhere, and there's no way we can search like half the train without raising suspicion." Yelana turned. "Oh, and Soren? We're not killing anyone - Not unless we have to. This is corporate espionage, so don't get trigger-happy. Got it?"
-
"Got it." Yelana turned towards her companions. "If that's all, we should probably head to the shuttle."
-
"Riiiiiiiight. . . Maybe with that attitude. . ." Yelana glanced around the room. "So, who's taking the lead on this op, anyway? I suggest Zaria - She's levelheaded, and as a devotee of Varuth, probably knows the ins and outs of travel better than either of us do. Especially the inns. . . Get it? . . Nevermind." Yelana sheepishly finished the rest of her tea, waiting for the others to respond.
-
"I disagree, but whatever." Yelana adjusted her hair for a moment. "Hm. . . Anything else we need to know before we ship out? And what do we do with this thing once we get it? Is there a dead drop in Con'stap, or are we bringing it back here? And how are we getting offworld?"
-
"You misunderstand - I mean that the theft will be traced back to Oc|Tan, regardless of whether we are discreet or not." "Yes? . . You did say your name was Leopold Irgonstead, and that you reserved tickets under your name. Is 'Irgonstead' your pseudonym, then?" Yelana bristled at 'Irgonstead's' surly attitude, taking a sip of her tea to retain her composure. "Yeah, actually - Some of it, at least. Right now, your 'plan' basically amounts to racially profiling a bunch of random Quarm, asking totally-not-sus questions about tech we know nothing about, stealing said tech without being noticed, and somehow getting offworld with it once we reach Con'stap - All on a non-stop train." Yelana sighed and took another sip of tea. "Okay. . . What do you know, aside from what you already told us? And where did you even get this information in the first place?"
-
Technically, it can be whatever range you choose, but Long Range (3 squares) or Artillery (4 squares) would make the most sense. Choosing either of these would render your Short Range Weapons proficiency unusable for this mission, however, since you cannot respec mid-quest (though @Waterbrick Down may allow an exception, since the game and mission only just started). 😕 BTW, you should also have a link to your character's Registry post in your signature: https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/185707-heroica-glory-amongst-the-stars-hero-statistical-registry/&do=findComment&comment=3416950

"Okay, I'm going to need a little more to go on than that - And by 'a little', I mean a lot. I need descriptions of the two targets and any security detail they have, schematics of the train, intel on the package - rad signature, size - all that, handoff contact and location in Con'stap, any possible rival organisations with knowledge of this device - Hart, Triad, those. . . 'Magpie' guys, and - Wait. . ." Yelana slowly took her hand off of her cup of tea. "Did you say you reserved our tickets under. your. own. name???" Yelana put both palms on her forehead and sighed loudly, trying to ignore her impending headache. "Are you shitting me?! You blew this op before it even started! When M-Tec finds out their shiny new generator is missing - and they will - they'll file a complaint with LRTS, access the train's manifests, and find out that someone from Oc|Tan booked passage - Even if we don't get caught, you still ensured that the theft can be traced directly back to Oc|Tan! Unbelievable. . ."
-
Yelana took a sip of her tea as she sat down at the table. "Good to see I'm not late - There was a line at the spice shop." "Oh, hello. To be honest, with all the glitching, I was expecting a panicked housecat! Also, why are comms always scuffed when I'm around? It's getting weird, now." OoC:

"Um, hi. I'll have a Plasma Potion - Ten creds, right?" Yelana took a small pyramidal device out of a pouch on her belt - It unfolded, displaying a small hologram that read 'Account Balance: 10 Credits'. She swiped her fingers across one of the unfolded triangles to confirm the purchase, the balance changing to zero as she did. Replacing the device, Yelana double-checked to make sure that she had her rifle on her back - She did. "Thanks. Oh, and do you know where I can get some good Crimson Chai between here and the Oc|Tan Refuel Depot? The stuff in the Hall's a bit weak for me." -

". . . grab my rifle, refill MedSpray system, get tea. . ." Yelana had just run into the Hall from the Library as she overheard someone whispering. "Okay, WHO the hells just said that?!" Yelana turned to the Adamite newcomer. "I'm sorry about that - 'Bers', right? I have a mission, so I can't chat right now, but just know that when I'm here, you can talk to me if you want to. Bigotry's stupid and it makes no sense - Yet, here we are. Anyway, I have to go - I'll see you later. Oh, and my name's Yelana Fennix, by the way." -

"Right, okay - I'm just used to having more resources when I prep for field work. Also, the last time I tried to just wing an op, we were kind of an absolute mess." Suddenly, Yelana head an alert chime in her ear. "<Display notifications>" Yelana turned back to Collette for a moment. "Sorry; I have to go - Thanks for your help."
