  1. As you've said you never attacked anybody or told them to shut up. Your post was right on as they were pushing on this matter for quite some time and we only did reply to those statements. Your diplomacy is honourable and mature but no need to give in to danth just because: As he points out he likes to reinterpret everything to his demands, into something which would show him being the correct one. Also his argument is an endless wine in front of me like loop. "Essentially: "Stop disliking things I like!"" Twisting again. No one said that. It could be turned over again against you just as easily as you've done yourself. You are the one who can't bear that some people had factual arguments. If they'd be so wrong, there would be no need to call on fake forum policing accusations and reinterpreting the things they've said. You've started this whole thing by saying nothing useful, nothing on-topic but just accusing others being unfair with the other side. While nothing of the sort has happened. "And this comes from someone who is thrilled by the changes"? Then stop talking about this nonsense and actually stay on topic.
  2. I see I am being skipped, maybe I'm to inconvenient to argue with, but we have finally some conclusion here. Can we just say that you personally are not happy with this set and you won't buy it because of your own reasons? That is perfectly up to you, only in my opinion there is no arguable reason to picture it as some general failure from TLG to realize their optimal marketing targets otherwise. In this case I think I understand your standpoint. Maybe you're more into PotC type of sets with a little more darker tone. Still, I think you are making too much of an issue of this retro thing, because the figures and the other colors are totally not retro. The ship blocks with the yellow and black parts are the reference, and the presence of a new Barracuda itself may be the only one. The box art is retro for sure, but it does not even focus on the ship - as you've pointed out - so it really does not hurt anybody, does it? Don't you agree with all these?
  3. Oh, I was expecting you, dear danth. Still making a sport of putting things into completely other contexts? To give you an answer: no, it does not sounds like that as I was talking quite explicitly, no need for you to reinterpret. There is nothing invalid or illegitimate about prefering the original version. Only that this will not make poor arguments against the final one any better. Also how is your fOruM eMoTiOn pOliCinG detector going, have you managed to report us to the moderators for being insulting and ridiculous? You're still welcomed to make any counter arguments on your own, but we both know you won't have any and it is not why you are here :)
  4. For. Real. What is your goal here? Your problem now that a pirates set looks like a pirates set and not a NASA rocket? There are like a ton of niched sets like Chinese New Year stuff and a bunch of onetimer Creator expert models. How many people have any Lego displays? How many people have any Star Wars displays? Or Tron Legacy light cycle displays? How many people will display the Creator roller coaster? Do you realize how empty your implications are? Even the box design bugs you know. You are a perfect example of someone who just wants to get any angle to dislike some particular thing. I'd say it is somewhat personal for you, a stubborn affection for the original version or just the constant counterarguments you got which subconsciously may have already convinced you, but you keep pushing it. You may do it of course if you so insist, I just don't really understand the expectations. Your view on casual customer's decision is totally subjective and speculative, considering that any intuitive result to the set shows a majority of satisfaction. Even some blog was linked with numbers only showing 30% of the people liking the original better. Also why would pleasing a very serious fanbase would hinder anything? Do you say the classic box design is not good, kids or casual adults won't like it? Do you say the build is not appealing enough to sell without pointing the alternative build out more explicitly? But you've just said it is fanservice. Pure fanservice would have made more attention to the Barracuda build. Still, if this set is really 100% fanservice does it instantly mean everything is just bad about it for wider audiences? Is it a problem If TLG does not care about their fans, but if occasionally does indeed, that is also a problem? Which one is the greater problem? What is your point exactly? Your arguments are like logical black holes, they do not say anything exact, just taking different angles totally out of context, not being consistent to any previous posts. Pablo, the creator explicitly told us in interviews and constantly keeps telling on the IDEAS comment section that he does understand and totally loves and approves the changes. Do you say he is lying because of the 1% comission? What would you've done otherwise? Release the original idea instead with a blank IDEAS box design? We've been there 3 pages ago and you guys were not very keen on reacting to even half of the arguments on those.
  5. I'm sorry, but this post of yours is so forced. It is already a hit, end of story. Can we move on?
  6. Lovely buildings. Classic minifigures. Clipper. Piglets. Beautiful. Also Frontpaged.
  7. Eurobrick member pantelis has held a unique celebration for the new IDEAS Pirates set in the form of a diorama called: It's time for adventure. Click here for more close-ups of this amazing Port, guarded by the everlasting legend itself, the one and only Caribbean Clipper. Time for an adventure indeed.
  8. That was the most purist sh#t I've ever seen. Great review.
  9. Okay, I see this is really a thing for you, isn't it? Forum policing, emotion policing. Is there anything out there which is not emotion policing for you? Ridiculous? More like Hughmungus.
  10. Agree. Either the re-release of the flagship oooooor approve this when the time comes. Or even better, do both. SUPPORT NOW
  11. Great job Harry, you've done a great service to this universe. Always nice to see this kind of horrible entropy restored. Also yeah, the Barracuda is the more authentic one (especially the newer edition), and the Schooner is more like a 90's burlesque romanticized version of it, still it will always be a legend amongst fans all the same. That color combo and those sails are just ahhh.... You can also fill the cabin with some piratey details. The best time to have some pillage dinner is when you are simultaneously dealing with some rebellious scums and the Imperial Navy.
  12. Well, there's not a lof of details how did they exactly interpret it before and after but it is mentioned briefly in this one: While developing the set did you consult with any of the original Pirates designers who still work at The LEGO Group?Milan: Niels Milan Pedersen, designer of the Black Seas Barracuda, sat only a few meters away from our desks - we made sure to talk to him about the 1989 launch to get some inspiration. He’s an incredible designer with an amazing portfolio of LEGO sets! And although you may not know it, we also turned to the fan community. We dug through the LEGO archives to take the stories from the back of the original boxes, the comics, the books, and the video games – to add another chapter in Redbeard’s story. However, all the LEGO lore, the websites, forums and discussions in the AFOL community also really brought this to life. Did you browse forums and other online communities to see what fans wanted from the sets, and include such elements? Milan: Absolutely, I took on every comment I could find and made sure to include everything I could. Not all were possible, but we managed many. The fan community was hugely helpful in creating the stories for the characters. We really wanted this to be a continuation of the LEGO Pirates story, so characters like Anne from the Golden Medallion comic could reappear. Others like Spinoza or Bo’sun Will are off on their own adventures, so aren’t included in this set. Maybe the fan community can inspire the next chapter in their story, too.
  13. No we don't. You either believe them considering they're profit oriented and this happened because the majority defines the marketing direction, or not. sArCasMs dEteCted, but yes. One more Millenium Falcon set and I'm cutting up my veins.
  14. That's bank bank bank! Do you plan to expand them now? Interesting, I was also thinking about getting them on ebay. What is the usual price/fig there for a classic, fully geared redcoat, bluecoat?
  15. Also. This is a new Black. Seas. Barracuda. And I mean it like a ♪ ♫ ♪ Blackseasbarracudawhooooooooooooooooo ♪ ♫ ♪ way . That's one of Lego's best identity if not the very best. How many Millenium Falcons we had to survive to finally get something which is the most purist Lego thing ever. Okay, it has probably hijacked the set a lil' bit if you really want to see it that way, but most of us are very pleased with the whole concept. It just fits. (Also did I mention that it is a freaking BLACK SEAS BARRACUDA?) Nope, we only have the interviews with the designers, who mentioned a couple times that they were monitoring the comments, forums, following Lego Pirates fans' opinions and this is the picture they've got. No, no figures and statistics.
  16. It is very convenient I see to jump over those arguments which do not fit into your created picture. Again, you are in a minority of that 10,000 votes. The majority voted because they've been craving for any good Pirates set which is more closer to Classic instead of the junioralized newer lines. This was an opportunity TLG has finally realized and went to kill two birds with one stone. Also we've shown you a lot of IDEAS sets that were drastically changed. You cherrypicked the one which was quite similar to the original. What do you try to prove with this single one? The only thing this shows that sometimes they go without changing a lot, sometimes they don't. And HONESTLY, like you wouldn't be able to reverse engineer the original one if you really want that. Will you buy this final version? Do you think it is not a good set, independently of what you think of the original one? Also Aanchir has just pointed out that what you're refering to as a 'Bay' is totally not a definion carved into stone.
  17. Not to mention that other upcoming castle, hidden deep in the woodlands, just in the middle of a forest stream Remember what I've said, if TLG does not go for it, we rebel.
  18. The link is accidentally deleted I think.
  19. I think you still don't want to understand, that this was done only to please multiple market targets as well. A lot of us have been waiting for a classic vibe pirates for years and we also hadn't got any for last years 30 years celebration as well. The final result has the soul and layout design of the original idea, with more colors. Why is that reddish brown so unique you can't accept a new Barracuda built into it as well? I've just made a similar post showing other IDEAS set, which were altered just as deeply as this. You guys are still jumping over these arguments. I can only say at this point: This is what we've got. I myself think it is better, but if I would'nt think so, it would still be better than nothing. Of course, easy to say this, considering that the original design in my opinion was never that special, as I've pointed out: It was just a blank reddish brown build on a baseplate, using a lot of cute pirates accessories. It was truly an IDEA. A lot of us have voted because we vote anything pirate-themed with good quality, and this was obviously huge quality all the same. I don't think refering to this 10,000 voters all the time should make you right in my opinion. As the designer's have said, they were constantly monitoring the comments and other forums and they've recognized the truth: most of the 10,000 voters were older classic fans. Believe it or not, but it seems you are in the minority in this 10,000 people. Yes, couldn't have said better. Now this is the first criticism I can agree with. I also think some darker blue would've been better. Maybe they were trying to get some kind of shallow laggon water feeling? That is obviously brighter. But it is also so clear it is practically transparent, while this one is obviously not.
  20. @BillyG I'm honored to make your MOC as my first Frontpage news post. Also how is the rigging idea going? I think you should definitely try to add more. I am not a fan myself of non-lego string riggings, they brake the immersion a bit for me, also making dissambly a lot harder. The piece you've already used could be an interesting basic ground to go on. Have you thought of using 1x4 black bar pieces to connect them? That might be a good middle ground between molded and non-lego string rigging.
  21. Freshly joined Eurobrick member BillyG has introduced himself with his fabulous implementation of the Tintin Unicorn Ship from the iconic belgian comic books. Click here to chek out more details and even the featured Tintin and Captain Haddock custom minifigures.
  22. Haha, what a coincidence, I believe to be a contrarian myself as well! Just don't start to overpraise the set even better than I could as I'd had to start taking it apart ferociously...which I don't want considering it is really my favorite set already since the Architecture Studio.
  23. It suggest nothing like that, you are suggesting it. It does not say other opinions aren't legitimate. Stop putting thoughts into other's mouth, please. If you read it that way, it is your problem. I was saying we should be happy, yes. If you don't like it, well it is your business. If you are not happy, that's your own thing as well. I was trying to point out positive things about the idea and trying to find counterarguments why is it not "totally different". But saying it is forum policing is super hypocritical and BS. No one said it is necessary, but you can't forbid it. If I want to argue about something in a socialized manner, then that's what I'm going to do. No hostility or bad intentions were meant by that. No, I just like to point out things as well. Until no one is being personal or rude, or simply aggressive, no one should come here and talk about forum policing and stuff as well. That is the moderator's job if they found it to be the case. I myself may be nitpicky, that is for sure. I admit I don't like this wishy-washy attutide about everyone is constantly being right with everything they're just eager to say. No, they're totally not. Why would I accept that the arguments of both sides are valid when they're not about personal tastes. Personal tastes and objective observations are not the same. I have no problem with the first first one. But with the latter I'll have my word as well. When I say "that baseplate is not manufactured anymore" it is not a personal taste. It is a fact. I may be wrong with my arguments, but you are welcomed to prove me wrong and no need for creating any backdoor accusing the other doing forum policing (I know it was not you legotownlinz, just saying). But again I totally mean no hostility towards anybody. I just like to argue, I think it is an important aspect of any forum. I'm really satisfied with the set so I hope someone with a probably more acceptable fashion will point out my arguments and make a better view of it in the original idea fan's eyes.
  24. You cherrypicked the only sentence in my post which was actually not an argument to other arguments but me expressing my personal emotions, which is just as my right to do as for anybody else. This was not an order, nor a threat of consequences, like I'd be a moderator here or something. You're nowhere near to the definiton of forum policing. If you commit something which the Police and the Law does not like very much they take you to prison or fine you, not just suggest or point out nicely the optional alternatives. This is why I've said what I'm still saying: what you're contributing here is actually passive-aggressive vigilantism. If you have any counterarguments to give for either sides or you have anything personal to share with the set, please contribute, otherwise you should stop accusing people of something which is actually only done by you so far.
