  1. For me, the licensed version was just as incomplete as Indiana Jones was compared to Adventurers. Too many scenes left out, too much potential wasted.
  2. Wow, that was a deep necrobump there @Viper Knight. For only one reason it's interesting to see how cheerful people were getting a very original castle theme at the time. Almost historical value.
  3. Approval chances for Pirates things are always slim, but hell yeah. The more amazing builds there are is the better. This is amazing.
  4. Oh my, people keep getting better with these Castle/Pirates builds. TLG keeps getting lessons in the meantime, my my indeed. Is Woligan a member here at EB? I think some courteous invite should really go out for him, this may deserve an own thread to discuss.
  5. Wowowow, Redbeard is returning again! Is he the oldest scoundrel figure being revised now for the third time after so many years? Only Johnny Thunder surpasses him in different appearances if I'm not mistaken.
  6. It's on IDEAS guys, so let's give all the votes we have to put it on spotlight.
  7. Any room left for newbies to join?
  8. Victory. Thanks @Slegengr and @heyitsdisty good Sirs for the great ideas how to start and the tip about adding the angle with manual input. Used them both to achieve this glorious build.
  9. I think social networks are the best (sadly) tools today to promote your work. Instagram, facebook groups, reddit, discord channels, etc.. After a critical mass, the snowball effect will do the rest.
  10. Hmm, but isn't that one of the definitons of steampunk? Or maybe it is not if I think about it now. I'm thinking of David Lynch's 1984 Dune. That was something like that, wasn't it? I would not call that steampunk but it is very close to what you say. Altough, it's a bit more late 19th, early 20th century imperialism instead of 18th. Anyway there's some unexplored ground there for TLG for sure.
  11. Honestly I'm sceptical at the moment that any pirate themed idea would be approved with the Pirate Bay coming along. On the other hand there is no better way to send TLG a message than great pirates IDEAS getting as many votes as possible. Especially with proper designs like this.
  12. Hey guys. I'm experimenting in stud.io with off-grid positioning. I'm trying to create this triangle base with plate hinges. Obviously I'd need an equilateral triangle within so the designer would accept the hinge connections perfectly. I've couldn't manage to do it manually, is there some convenient way to do this?
  13. Brilliant, this is what I've exactly had in mind. If you have the iron under the hood for it, try to create a bigger landscape for it like The Castle in The Forest idea as submission updates. It is a great way to advertise your build. I think you have great potential, keep up the amazing work! I have a feeling we'll get an IDEAS set designed by you for sure ;)
  14. Yes, we're fans of romanticized piracy of a certain historical era. But piracy is a boarder term so it is more like an anachronistic technology incorporated with piracy. So if we'd get a theme like that, I'd say I want pirates in them as well.
  15. I love the idea of the inner section actually being a hideout not just empty stonework. One suggestion: as I've already said with the PotC maelstrom idea, too many redundant details should be avoided with an IDEAS set in my opinion. The skull is very cool but the side parts are too blank and overflooding the piece count. You might try to make it more lightweight there, using plates instead, bigger pieces, maybe some secret storage or any structure which is not so heavy in piece count, like how The Castle in the Forest idea did. Not taking IDEAS viewpoints, this is a marvelous build, truly showing your skills and also the potential of good old classic pirates. Well done!
  16. Just simply love it, especially the additional dimension given by the hold. That's already four explorers in the bag, any news on an upcoming adventure?
  17. Well, as I only buy used classic pirates it's coming together slow but steady. With these core sets you can have the whole thing played out. Also you get the most value out of these. I guess the whole thing can get around $3500-4000 nowadays. I only got half of them as well, so it is a long journey indeed.
  18. I think it has been debated here on Eurobricks a couple of years ago. The official Lego catalogs named the bluecoat governor Broadside whide the redcoat admiral Woodhouse. Quite british names. Someone had also pointed out that the Bluecoat lily (Fleur-de-lis) must be a french symbol. On the other hand british navy were also bluecoats while the army troops and officers used the red one. Of course, it is surely a matter of choice actually. I like the idea of frenchmen fighting the british while different pirate factions are getting involved. Not to mention the Armada and the Islanders. Oh, classic pirates, I luv ya.
  19. In my Lego Pirate realm there's even two different factions of Pirates, one led by Redbeard and the renegades led by Ironhook to take over leadership in the Pirate council :)
  20. I myself would submit the half build version. It's better for display and also too many redundant elements are not a positive thing for an IDEAS set. Anyway you'll get one supporter in me ;)
  21. Well, Treasure Planet wasn't really space nor sea based it was some pseudo-fantastic-vernian mixture of both. It is surrealistic in a Wiener Phantastischen Realismus way. Even describing it is messed up. I think it is better than nothing and Lego isn't really being fond of classic ideas these days, so I'm just making my own out-of-the box speculations. Industrial revolution based steampunk is another story for sure. I might take the Adventurers direction there instead of Piracy myself. The airtight enclosed space freighters mentioned by you is more like the Space Police category, don't you agree? Anyway, I'd be very disappointed with another 2009-2015 one year wave clone again so I am ready for some compromises.
  22. Yeah, I was one of his first followers his Nebula outpust video instantly showed me this is the passion I was looking for on youtube Now with 2k followers his channel is still waaay to underrated, considering some of the basic Lego building channels converge to a million subscribers. Taking the the effort input, Jamie's work can be a bit ungrateful on the short run. Still, with enough time and more additional thousands of followers it can create a recognizable message for TLG, which we're all hoping for in this forum.
  23. Yes, I've tried to phrase this idea before just didn't find the proper words for it, thanks for doing it instead The 45° angle hull piece is a smart move but I myself would imagine the Pirate Bay to be even more messy and shabby, pretty much like the Shipwreck Cove we've seen in the PotC series.
  24. Now you got me hooked. Also no need to spare me, I'm not a steampunk evangelist. I consider myself quite the classic pirate purist on the other hand, I'm just accepted the fact that with Lego it may always belong to the past. Also steampunk was never properly explored by TLG, only Time Cruisers and a couple of Ninjago hodgepodges had something similar. Haha, I help where I can, I'm glad you've enjoyed it :D I think Disney had some pretty interesting era with these unsuccessful but quite unique tales (Emperor's New Groove, Sinbad, Treasure Planet, Atlantis, Eldorado..).
