great models! as for alternative motors go have a look at modding a micro servo to allow continous rotation and depending on the way you mod the motor you can either have a normal small geared down dc motor or if you keep and mod the electronic board of the servo you can get a motor with integrated esc in it.

i am waiting for fxtracks motors aswell. will go dcc when they become available.
-
thank you! yes it is kinda sad but thats just the way things move now
-
yes true true. without that child like curiosity everything would become rather boring and robotic i guess.

another model: this one is a factory that makes bricks complete with its own "feldbahn" system. these where common back in the day but now they are sadly pretty much extinct. brick factories dismanteled the rails and got rid of the rolling stock. now everything is transported by forklifts and lorrys.

Here is some scenery: first is the typical mountain mine entrance with the bba b360 loco (can be seen along with all her siblings further up this thread) next is a wagon loading station. and finally a wagon carrying freshly burned bricks

dcc uses a patern of alternatingly pulsed ac to transmit power/data to the decoder. for powering the decoder itself it has to be rectified first anyways to power the decoders microcontroller. the output then can be pretty much whatever the manufacturer wants it to be. some trains even use brushless dc motors to power the train and there needs to be a three-phase esc on the decoder to power that. so no not all dcc decoders output two wire pwm but most of them do.

thanks for the compliments! what i was suggesting is that everyone (not just here everywhere) has a little kid in them. for some shows in the love for cars for some shows in some sport they do or heck even model trains and for us it is lego. Thats my take on it. Wish you all the best aswell! Simon

thank you! i think we are all still kids at heart tbh.

I restored some 9V track and motors with guitar care products
XG BC replied to McWaffel's topic in LEGO Train Tech
just to go a little of topic here and have a bit of a laugh: not 9v but 120v after you have used this guitar you maybe never ever need guitar care products ever again! ;-) -
can you read my mind? this is EXACTLY what i did yesterday. making some small dioramas with these probably only issue i see is the gearing side of things but thats coming from a guy that put a motor and gearing into a 4-wide monorail with only two studs of space inside before so... yes that could be possible as stated above. your models are very nice aswell. sadly i dont have a cirquit cube so someone else has to test this hypothesis edit: could maybe even fit a motor into the hood of the gmeiner with panels.

now onto some more locos. these where used in a much less sinister enviroment namely in quarrys and to transport turf and clay. Some where used during the dark times after the second world war in cities to remove all the rubble from destroyed buildings. many of them are still in good conditions repaired and cared for by enthusiasts. first is a typical dumpcar used on these narrow gauge railways. there are three variants: from left to right the first one is for the typical 4 wide lego track, the second one is for the brio wooden track using my rubber tire method and the final one is using the inverted wheels trick to run on the brio track. thanks for showing me this trick @Pendra37! all of the following locos can be modded in these ways (including the ones i showed yesterday) next up is a typical gmeinder 15/18 HP loco with its fairly rectangular construction: next is a typical schöma one with its inwards angled hoods. some where without covered frames, some with ones: and finally a dima loco with its angled parts at the top of the hoods. some where without covered frames, some with ones:

thank you! @Paperinik77pk

Here is something different but kinda the same: BBA east german mining locos! these kinda had a dark background though. they where used in mines where uranium was mined for the soviet union and by extension for the soviet nuclear weapons. some where also used elsewhere. first up is the oldest design of the bunch: the metallist mining loco. rear view: next up is the b 360 which a further developement of the metallist. rear view: then there is the b660 which is just two front portions of a b360 with the drivers compartment hacked off and enlarged + suspended between two front parts what do you do when you need more power? well you just add more front parts with the el71 which was two bba 660's or two bba el61's (similar to the 660 but based on the older metallist design): and what do you do when this is not enough? well more power is always the answer so just couple two more to it with the el 79 forming this monstrosity: and there was also one with a pantograph the el30: rear view: there was also one which used the bb660's drivers cab suspended it between two el30's with the drivers cab cut off at the top and replaced with pieces of sheet metal. the EL30T (T stood for tandem.) Hope you guys like them even with their kinda dark history.

maybe a supply issue? remember that this is a nice product produced in low volume
-
thank you! yes i have to agree it really is very smooth running not only that but it also includes a spring loaded clutch mechanism that prevents the gears/motor from getting damaged incase it stalls. great job brio engineers!

looks pretty good and like new! thanks for the tip! -
Here is a video of my small train running: I had ti change the rear coupling to make it swivel so it likes curves better because of the overhang that my design creates because in order to fit a full minifig and not make the loco stupidly tall you have to have the drivers compartment behind the rear axle rather than above it. Edit: here is the loco in detail: i also made an electric version removing the exhaust and adding a pantograph: hope you like the model and the mods i have made to it.

i thought of that aswell because it would fit in really well with the whole indiana jones revamp
