Marvel Superheroes 2024 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
I think there have been 3 so far- $55 system set with Cap, Rulk, Sabra, and Falcon ll, supposedly a jet for Sabra. $35 (I think?) Cap construction figure with wings $20 (assumably) brickheadz Rulk and Cap 2-pack. -

Huh. Odd. Yeah- my guess is it's the Invincible Iron Man helmet, purely because the rest of the figures sound too good to be true. Yeah, but that's gone. Reduced to atoms. -

I'd be down for that. Almost a Red Squadron coloration. I keep forgetting about Peridea, but I'm excited for that one too! Didn't know Luke was rumored to have a new hairpiece. Do they mean the one from last year, or another new one? I've decided not to get the ISD. I was interested until I saw images- it just really doesn't feel like enough of an upgrade to the 2014 set to me, and Cal, who was similarly a bigger draw for me than I normally allow figures to be, was somewhat of a letdown- in a number of ways I prefer my purist customs, so why would I shell out $160 for a star destroyer and figure who don't feel like better versions than the ones I have? That's not to say it's a bad set- it seems fine, if a little light on imperial figures- but for me personally, no sale. -
Sure, new things can captivate audiences, but for a franchise on the ropes, especially when the best way to reinvigorate the brand is a children's cartoon, you either need to come in from SUPER off the wall (Transformers with beast wars) or come out with your strongest asset (batman). I dunno what sort of complete reinvention they could do for DC, as the supehero genre is so well-populated that the superhero PARODY genre is starting to get a bit crowded. An Ambush Bug series with immaculate writing could probably outdo a mediocre batman one, but if I wanted to try and get a new generation of fans into DC, and I didn't have Timm or Dini on deck, I know which hero I'd choose. That latter paragraph is something I agree with and was actively attempting to point out- continuing previous works isn't a exactly the best way to draw in a new audience. No, it'll be marketed as a batman show with no hint of green lantern. At the end of the first episode, Bruce is killed by a crashing spaceship... one that pilot Hal Jordan finds.

Funnily enough, one of the only ones left- the skiff- is the one I'm most likely to buy.. though the X-fighter is definitely a bit tempting. Still not a fan of the two civilian figs or the generic pilot, but L3-GO is fun and the fighters themselves look good. -

That's another thing- it feels a lot more aimed at that random senator and the government in general than at the people, who cap's speeches are normally for. I'm not asking for Sam to deliver the speech from Winter Soldier every time he shows up, but I need more than the "do better" speech. I mean.... so is the Bugle, isn't it? Oscorp arguably has more to work with design-wise as you can throw some more sci-fi esque architecture onto it, sleeker angles, black coloration, even some tinted green windows around the penthouse if they want. 'Do better' is one of my main gripes, because it sort of just exemplifies the speech in general for me. It feels like something some random guy would say if he confronted a politician he didn't like, not like a captain america speech. The message also just seems to be "hey government, you should help people", which again, just comes off more like Sam lecturing some jerkwad politician than the inspiring speeches Cap is usually giving out. -
But this falls into the same issue- things us fans would love, but ones that aren't as likely to grab a new audience of kids. I think it's really important to start a new universe, and it's probably best to start with Batman. I quite literally only have one built set from DC in my collection- the most recent system scale Tumbler. It's that and <10 figs.

I feel bad for Anthony Mackie. He was a great falcon and I feel he would do well as captain america (though I thought the TFATWS writing for him was pretty weak... especially that end speech. It feels like someone remembered last-minute that Cap gives great speeches and just made something up on the spot for him to say), but man, I have no faith in this movie. The random assortment of Hulk elements, the fact that they've chosen the controversial concept of "captain america fights the sitting US president" which is way beyond MCU writing's current ability to pull off, the fact that it's probably one of the most extensively reshot marvel films for a "solo" film at this point- allegedly due to test scores, the amount of delay after the start of filming- I just don't think this is going to work. My main want from the marvel line right now is Oscorp, so I'm crossing my fingers the january wave has a solid number of spider-man sets with new figures, because otherwise I don't think we're getting it unless the fig count is drastically lower than the bugle. -
The funniest turn will either be a turtle part/build showing up in a batman set, or it being revealed that Turtle is actually one of the designers. But what? There's not a ton we have the power to do. Lego knows us fans want the wider universe. Lego also doesn't believe there's enough of us for those to sell, and they're likely correct at this moment in time. The only way to save lego DC is to save the DC Universe. Which means... A new animated series. Even just batman to start. But you need SOMETHING to get the kids involved. Afols alone can't sustain playsets- hence why we get so many non-playscale batman sets, it's because they're cashing in on the general batman market in adults, not just adult fans of lego. "Trillionaire, actually." Apparently inflation is pretty bad in Ham City. That's true, I do hope Man paid for The's method acting as Reverse for his role in the critically acclaimed and universally loved "The" (2023) Actually Soup usually has some wealth or tech or what have you- not from his reporter salary, which Man is sometimes the one ultimately paying anyway, but from various kryptonian doodads. It's also been a joke in a few DC continuities that Woman merch outsells both Soup and Man merch in universe (which makes more sense for Man when you consider in-universe most parents probably wouldn't want their kid dressing like him), so she probably does well Man's had a bin or two with parents, hasn't he? All I need to do is dye my hair black and wear reggae colors. I completely agree- she's by far my favorite wonder woman.

....yeah, fine. This was a worthy set. I was confused why vader and Old luke were both there, but that's not the point. It's wacky, it's a joke, that's the whole thing. I love the radar dish superlaser. I love White Vader, Dark Rey, and Darth Jar Jar looks great here. I still think C-3PO and Beach Luke are weird choices, but they are FUNNY choices. And Darth Dev, who I thought would be the weakest link, has an excellent inquisitor outfit. -

I don't have time right now to rant fully about the name, but lego is either using AI for their set names now or choosing the most ai-friendly names possible. It's not a name any more it's just a description of the set- this is almost as bad as the new batmobile's name. -

No, she just needs to be in a set. Like any non-batman character in the DC thread. Exactly- assumably, if they were planning on making a set the anniversary fig would easily fit in, they just wouldn't make that fig an anniversary fig. -

Actually, the figures rarely have a real connection to the set- Fives in the Tantive, Malak in the R2 unit, Saw in the sith infiltrator, etc. Nien's from the same movie but a different time and location. Cal on the other hand mostly fits. Point being, they're not primarily in sets that make sense for them to be in, so I think it's perfectly reasonable to have expected a different choice such as Mara Jade, or potentially this legends character called Mara Jade. I'm worried an R2-KT fig might have been a misunderstanding, seeing as she's buildable in this set. I hope not, but we've had bigger leaker misunderstandings before. I'm a bricklink seller and I totally agree. -
Are we going off username or pfp? I'd like to support going off username unless the it's not something easy to put into this scenario (so PGBQW stays Morb Adam). In which case, you can probably take out the phantasm and I guess a pug with guns. DraCain gang. My fighter is pretty vague, but Beskar should provide me some protection (seeing as we're going off name, NOT pfp I guess). I think if my mandoknight can close the distance he's got a shot. I also kind of want to design one now, like the Jake Bartok art but worse because I'm not an artist. ARC's joking, much like PGBQW and the turtle. What are you talking about, turtle bringing up a topic we've already explained to him is a semi-monthly occurrence. I've also cemented my final guess on the turtle irony scale, which is that around 50% of his posts are jokes or exaggerating for humor, but stuff like preferring Batman over other heroes or working on the shadow box are real.

Lord of the Rings Ongoing Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Momotof's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I don't think I made myself super clear- I'm not saying that's where LOTR is, just that the attitude of "bad content better than no content" is the attitude that would lead to LOTR being so. The animated film I actually really think will be good, but I didn't like ROP, and have no faith in Hunt for Gollum just off concept alone. -

"I know what I have to do, but I don't know if I have the strength to do it." As to the wider topic, I'll simply say that "low quality content is better than no content" is how we got the current states of SW and marvel. Though as @BrickBob Studpants says, LOTR seems to already be having as much trouble with their canon as star wars currently is. -
The real Batman (DC Superheroes) 2024 - Rumors & Discussion were the friends we made along the way. Though Turtle wearing clone gear in his honor implies Commando dies in some important thread-related event. But on a "do pugs eat turtles" standpoint, I think a clone commando could take out most of the usernames/pfps in the thread... except for Morb Adam. You planning something, @PGBQW? Are you why @CloneCommando99's now sporting a different trooper as his profile picture? Yeah. I think if the superman movie fails (and more importantly, system The Batman 2 sets don't do well) there's an actual possibility they move Lego Batman from it's own theme into an Icons subtheme. It's halfway there already.

Thanks! Torn on the new pfp but ultimately think it's a solid upgrade- the older one looked a little more like a profile picture, but this one makes a lot more sense for a lego forum. Edit: Qouted the wrong one of your posts and now I look like I'm just offering unsolicited thoughts on the PFP. It would, but Young Leia's a weird inclusion in general. That certainly has multiple eyes. Weird selection- Artoo and chopper make sense. R2-KT is a little more obscure but a sweet choice (though now I worry we aren't getting a minifig compatible version- I was going to say minifig scale but that is absolutely not the case for the molded astromechs), and then R4-K5 is WILD. I guess to have an imperial one, but still a weird move in my opinion. BB-8's likely just missing because he's not the same general design as the other four, even if he's technically still an astromech. -

If I'm right, I'm going to put something stupid about predicting the future in my signature. I maintain my theory that this leaked via the parts list like the september sets did, hence why the build isn't known. I'm still not confident on "more than two eyes" being legit, but the interrogation droid's bristling with photoreceptor-looking bits, so it does fit. Thank you, we'll see if it pans out! I dunno why other people don't like it- I have 20 something fleet troopers as well as 2-3 custom units (the grey rogue one outfits with unprinted dark tan endor helmets, resistance torsos with those same helmets, etc). The rebels are a rebellion, yes, but there is an organized unit. There are full companies like the 61st mobile infantry. I certainly wouldn't say no to any rebel battle packs (aside from hoth, as that was our last one), ESPECIALLY some commandos. -

I think we may see soundwave first just because of that ejectable minion functionality (I could see him coming with Laserbeak or Ravage and Frenzy or Rumble, then a casseticon set with the ones not in the soundwave set plus Ratbat and maybe an obscure one, and then a GWP with Buzzsaw and Enemy or something), but I maintain we're totally seeing megatron. Lego has no issue with sci-fi tanks, even if they're not bright colors. It is, unfortunately. The front windshield has to be removed. -

I don't know exactly how it translates, but doesn't disney have the merch rights to spider-man? -
The grey hands and the weird belt that looks so rubbery to me. I don't like it, I don't think it particularly looks like the BTB suit either (though I also don't like that) He would, but that doesn't make him a good batman figure in my eyes. Yeah sorry man there are better ones, I don't think it's particularly well-done. There are funnier ones. Eurobricks isn't a huge team, and it's free to use so they don't rake in a ton of cash- to my knowledge the mods do this for free. I don't know that they'd want to hire a web developer out of their own pockets for something as small as throwing in some emojis. Putting the tactical suit in F tier is a war crime, by the way. (Though I like that the two '66 suits are S and F tier. The duality of Man) Spider-Man or Dogwelder. Realistically, a new red hood or a question. Though I unironically would love a Man figure using the captain marvel helmet mold. I think it'd be a fun little joke figure,

That's technically not correct- in canon, thrawn worked with the republic, but the bigger issue is that the rebels didn't steal it- they made a deal with the separatist holdout. They teamed up to fight the empire and parted ways as friends. But either way, "lego'd never put a grand admiral in a small set containing an enemy vehicle" is such a specific take that you have to admit even if you DIDN'T count thrawn in the phantom there's no evidence they'd care about something like that. (And why would they?) IT'S THE KRIFFING INTERROGATION DROID- 1984- interrogation, truth serum is kinda like mind altering multiple eyes buildable "creature" has to be buildable droid, but I'd stretch it. I dunno. I don't really think this should be a frontrunner just off how weird of a choice it would be (I also don't know for sure multiple eyes is a real hint) but it just kind of struck me. I wish, but no way we get an ISB battlepack. Oh yeah. Lego pushed every other faction to the side in favor of clones. It'll take awhile to shift back to balance. -
This is rapidly approaching TLBM in terms of the Batman/Joker relationship. Damian Wayne in any and all circumstances. He means me. Yeah, I'm man. It can't be ruled out. My personal vote is the realest batman we've ever had, 1966 batman. I'm guessing he didn't quite understand what it meant and had just googled "funny turtle clipart pictures" or something. I was going to be like "cmon man it's funny", but you've convinced me. For a joke suit, it's kind of lazy. Thanks man. here's mine: (Serious suits are ranked first, Joke suits are ranked to the right. Serious suits are ranked off how good they are, joke suits are rated based on comedy and parts that can be used for non-joke batmen)
