  1. I hope so- lego clearly doesn't have much faith in them, but while I don't think the movie doing well would get us a new set of them, maybe they can be added to the doomsday sets- a year feels like enough time to swap around some figures. I dunno- there are so many characters announced that a lot of them HAVE to have pretty small roles. I think Marvel knows they need more than RDdoom to get the doomsday hype going, and since a lot of cameos and surprise characters recently have been open secrets in these movies (or even directly shown in a trailer like Patrick Stewart, IIRC), I think publicly announcing X-men "cameos" is the next evolution (or de-evolution). There's a whole semantic game about what a cameo is, so I guess when I say I think they'll be a cameo I mean I think they'll get an illuminati in Dr strange level amount of screen time wherein Doom shows up and kills them all and we either forget it's the DP&W universe or DP&W are saved by Loki and sent to MCU616. The whole "what is a cameo" discourse has gotten pretty severe ever since people started saying Gambit/Laura/etc were cameos in DP&W (Absolutely not, they were supporting roles), but I'd argue Patrick Stewart is a cameo in MoM. Very little screen time, big name, doesn't really do anything in the movie. Even Thunderbolts may be too late- from everything we've heard the standard development cycle is a year and a half for a set, and Thunderbolts is only about a year away from Doomsday. But you bring up a very interesting point: Right now, for both the lego sets and the movie itself, Doomsday is in a very unique spot. What Marvel and Lego both know is that most of the new phase 4 and 5 characters haven't been very popular. So they have three choices: 1. Barrel ahead with Samcap leading She-Hulk, White Vision, Shang-Chi, and the Young Avengers into battle (I actually liked Shang Chi a fair bit and love Kate's Hawkeye, but they fell victim to marvel setting up a billion threads and then forgetting about them) and just hope people show up for the avengers group anyway/ hope the doomsday branding sells sets with figs that have shelfwarmed before. 2. Cross their fingers that the course-correct around the time of daredevil (Which, by the way, is super jarring- you can totally tell what's pre and post rebrand, as well as the fact that Jon Bernthal rewrote all his lines, but on the bright side Disney seems to know this and is letting him write the Punisher special) is going to lead to Thunderbolts and F4 being hits, and focus on them/ hope Thunderbolts and F4 are set sellers. 3. Cameofest any characters the audience still has goodwill towards and take the short term cash grab over setting up any long-term characters/ put the now announced and nonspoiler X-men in the sets to drive sales. Marvel seems to be doing a mix of the three (I put RDdoom in the third category), and it's too early to call for lego, but IMO two is the best long term bet. You need a new crop of characters people care about, so better to risk it on Thunderbolts and F4 than go with what you know doesn't work or get one-to-two more cameofests out at the expense of the franchise's future.
  2. @TheBatstan hasn't caught on yet, now's my chance, the opportunity I missed last year: The Lishell Al Gaib has returned. Fitting that Demo Dummy is what brought him back.
  3. No, wait, this makes sense. It's two years to the day after the intended release date, I could easily see there being a provision that stuff like that can't be shown for two years.
  4. Welcome back! I assume it is a joke, but I do have to respect it if he either faked the figure pics for it (they look pretty real) or was just sitting on them for an unknown amount of time to eventually do an april fool's joke.
  5. What are you disputing? Are you denying she had influence on the films? That Obi-Wan's death was her idea? I'll add that she cried after TPM because of how bad she thought it was, so to recap, we have: Fact 1: Marcia Lucas had major influence on the original trilogy and was the reason for major story decisions. She was involved in and the reason for major story decisions such as Obi-Wan's death and the subsequent basis for force ghosts through her referral that he serve as a "spirit guide" for Luke after his death. (Source: Literally the credits of ANH and ROTJ, the Icons Unearthed documentary series interview with Marcia herself- quotes include "I said, What if Darth Vader kills Obi-Wan Kenobi? And Obi-Wan Kenobi disintegrates while they're escaping?" and then in reference to the script having Obi-Wan talk Luke through the trench run over the comms "He can still say all that stuff he needs to say to Luke!". She also makes a large number of smaller but still impactful changes, such as making it so Luke only gets one pass at the trench run rather than trying a few times, changing the Obi-Wan's hut scenes to go lightsaber talk- leia message- go save leia instead of leia message- pause to show off lightsaber- go save leia. In addition, Mark Hamill himself stated in an interview "She was really the warmth and the heart of those films, a good person he could talk to, bounce ideas off of, who would tell him when he was wrong.”) Fact 2: Marcia Lucas thought the Phantom Menace was really bad. She had major issues with Phantom Menace. (Source: Howard Kazanjian: A Producer's life, in which Marcia Lucas states that after seeing TPM, "I remember going out to the parking lot, sitting in my car, and crying. I cried. I cried because I didn't think it was very good." (And then she goes on to complain about the CGI, the Anakin/Padme age gap and other common criticisms)) From this, the conclusion that the prequels would be somewhat different movies had she still been around seems pretty much inarguable, right? That's all fairly off topic, but don't come at me like I'm spouting some debunked concept. It's a pretty simple inference to make. Same. Which is part of why the 18+ oversaturation is a shame- there are a lot of good options, they're just putting out a flood of them, a number of which are subpar. I think we're already there. I know at the very least me and most of my friends who collect have skipped a number of 18+ sets we'd otherwise have bought just because we don't have the money/space. Yup- and here's the thing- I'm perfectly fine with all the May 4 sets being 18+. It's even part of my plan for how I think lego should be ordering waves. But when it's 90% of the may wave, half the January wave, and a chunk of the august wave....
  6. I'm sure it'll be replaced by something else- we pretty consistently went Chima-Nexo Knights-Hidden Side-Vidyo-Dreamzz. I'd like to see another action theme with a more singular focus- dreamzz was cool but it felt very scattered at times, and fell victim to the now-classic "kids want the concept of gaming in physical toys", which... I dunno but when I was a kid video games were pretty popular and while I wanted lego sets based on universes that were from video games, I wasn't going around like "oh, man, if only Kai from Ninjago had a Nintendo Wii mech, that'd be cool". Something Castle based would be fun and a good way to stop lego from trying to "modernize" everything, maybe you do a more traditional/fantasy castle setting but give the main knights magic powers. Or do a system Bionicle Gen 3 or something.
  7. Wouldn't actually mind a buildable grievous or Gonk, just... not with so many per year. AT-AT pilot helmet's already out. May is: Bo-katan and/or Jango helmets, Kylo helmet, Kylo's midi-scale shuttle, buildable chopper, etc. I agree, and I mean look, even just two each and up the amount of total sets a tiny bit is up to me. I know shelf space is an issue, but they're breaking into a new market- it's not like half the lego shelf used to be reserved for unrelated items for adults- the system shelf space has been taken up by these. Either get some more space, or keep more of the 18+ stuff D2C exclusive or in places like Barnes and Noble. Aside from the fact that it's widely reported how much influence his ex wife had- she was an editor, it's not like she was just hanging around the film set, and major story decisions such as Obi-Wan's death are attributed to her- it also just... is kind of intuitive? Like, obviously the guy was more reigned in when he was first making them then for the prequels when the original trilogy had been so immensely popular and had so much staying power. (And, of course... we can hear about his ideas for the sequels and how absolutely insane they are.)
  8. It might be slightly more similar to an 1800s westerner with a Japanese culture obsession- isolationist civilization with a very different but just as technologically advanced society. Wim from Skeleton Crew I would say is more of a weeb, but even then the jedi were real, so he's more of like one of those kids who wants to be a cop or soldier or paramedic when they grow up. Welcome back, sir. You are absolutely correct, purple grass would have been much more in-line with the Aslume. No no he's got a point, green grass is horribly normal for the Aslume.
  9. I can't believe you've only been around a little over a year, feels like you've been here for ages. The original three weren't, although Lucas's ex-wife was also a very important moderating influence on some of his crazier ideas. They also had nothing to lose for the franchise, since it didn't exist. The prequels, being the first star wars films in decades, were always a safe enough bet, and Lucas didn't have any moderating influences on them, leading to a lot of his more controversial ideas. (Not to mention his plans for the sequels... as much as I respect doubling down on an unpopular concept because of your faith in it, "they go ant-man and fight the midichlorians" is one of the few story ideas for the sequels I've heard that's inarguably worse than what we got.) Yes, TFA played it safe and focused on nostalgia, but it also wasn't terrible- most people I know consider it the best, or at least the least bad, sequel, compared to TLJ, which swung big with it's whole "subversion" thing and ended up incredibly controversial, or TROS, which tried to undo bits of TLJ while making some crazy moves of it's own and in the end left itself no one's favorite sequel. I have nothing against creative visions and making big moves, but as I believe you've said rather frequently, a lot of the disney era stuff hasn't worked, and this has damaged the franchise as a whole. Lucasfilm needs to build back goodwill with the general audience, and the general audience loves mando and grogu. In this case, it's better for them to play it safe for a bit, because at the moment their next big swing cannot afford to miss. Imagine if they'd made an Acolyte movie, how much that would have hurt the reputation of the franchise. I know, there'll probably be lists saying clearly false stuff like that we're getting Jedi Bob's starfighter, or an Evil millennium falcon, or wait, this'd be funny, that the entire next year is clones. (Jokes aside, how ridiculous- both intentionally and unintentionally- the theme has been is going to make it trickier to tell what's fake, so this is a good PSA for people to remember the date when they hear that we're getting a buildable Jar Jar tomorrow.) I was about to respond "well, it's just the Slave One and UCS sets tend to be closer to the vest", but no, there's all that 18+ stuff. I honestly couldn't care less at this point. The dioramas were the only ones I really collect, and while I got the Midi Falcon for christmas and think it's an excellent set, I don't really want to start a whole new collection of midi ships and I don't like that they're cutting into my system set slots.
  10. He even put on a bow tie for the occasion. It truly shows how much he respects Soup that he'll come to a gala for his big lego set appearence. I will neither confirm nor deny that that's who it's meant to represent, nor whether or not it's Turtle. (I don't know anything more than the rest of you about it, but I have my own theory.) If you PM me an email address I can send you the part file, but at the same time I don't think it'd be all that hard to mockup from the image- it's not like the heart is the most complicated shape or the terrain has to be exactly the same
  11. I hope so, at this point I think there are more canceled star wars films than there are real ones. I would have loved a trilogy about Luke restarting the Jedi (And meeting Mara) but no, we had to subvert expectations. (Which ties into the whole TMAG thing where being safe isn't necessarily bad- I thought TFA was a perfectly fine start to the trilogy, and then TLJ "subverted" everything set up and TROS halfheartedly "solved" stuff there was no buildup for.) I don't think it's a bad thing per se, but I do think there are more people who would buy a brown one but not a blue/grey one than vice versa just from the brown version being in TPM. It's not a major gripe on my part, but it is why I'm not picking it up (and I don't even LIKE TPM, my best experiences with the MTT are fighting it in battlefront 2017, that's why I'd want it. And you know what? You could even include clones there. There are whole battlefront 2 exclusive legions lego could pull in if the color scheme was so they could chuck in clones.) Yup. They've had a lot of movies in the pipeline with big directors and their "creative visions" that didn't pan out. Star Wars isn't The Godfather, and especially in a universe where you can't get any of those hot new director films out, I don't see anything wrong with putting out a fun adventure movie. That said, I'd also be fine if we stuck it out until 2029 before starting up movies again, but the brand isn't in the best place right now. They need to win back audience support, and TMAG is a low-risk way to gather some goodwill back. I'd guess we have to, it's just a system set, I can't see them hiding it much longer. That said, people had the Onyx Cinder IN HAND before lego revealed it, so you never know.
  12. If I ever make a third build to cap off the trilogy (ideally because the theme returned, but just as likely because they just folded Batman into Icons), it'll be a tower of fate with every single user who ever posted in the aslume thread. soup Thank you! Soup and insanity. Truly, my life's work. That's actually man, with a Beetle and some Juice referencing another famous role by the Man actor. As for the "asgardian", check the transformers thread or the Jurrasic World one and you'll understand. Yup, the officer was meant to represent the Police Commander Police and all those guys. Oh yeah, if I was playing chess I'd be hunched over that table like Chewie was removing my arms if I lost. Good luck against Thrawn's Acolyte. Yeah, it was the Dummy Alter- Not that I put a ton of hours into this but I would have tried to replicate my aslume build a little better if I was doing a microscale. You did, but I had my four-sided stair thing and since you were in both parts of the thread I made the executive decision to maximize the stair build I like. Yeah no they definitely torture dissidents as part of date night. but what can you do.
  13. Thank you! Yeah there's a number of Aslume characters present- Man is wearing an old suit he found in his closet alongside a Joker wig, and holding a Beetle and some Juice. My thought process was moreso that we were designing characters on the holotable, but I like the idea that it's a holochess match and two people are just sitting there watching. Took me forever to get it, too, like he said Dummy usually just takes the bus, so it wouldn't have been as interesting of a build. At the end of Andor Season 2, Vader is about to choke Dedra to death when Cyborg Superman appears, goes "I'll save you Dedra!", and portals both of them away. The disney execs are really worried about copyright infringement but they did promise to give Gilroy creative control... Yeah- I imagine it takes a bit to convince Dummy to go to something like a gala, hence having to summon him out of the primordial elements, but I imagine in general he'd just take the bus or crash a car. Thank you! Thank you! I... I'm out of ice puns. Pretend I said something clever. Thanks! That's why I threw all that context out to start it- dropping these images with no setup has to look absolutely unhinged to anyone who isn't active on that thread.
  14. Oh a buildable Jeff is definitely being fast-tracked as we speak. I hope they're getting some system sets out there too. There's a billion sets they could make- every map aside from New York and Hydra Base is pretty colorful. I have a list somewhere, but off the top of my head- Convoy sets (convoy vehicle and associated terrain): Fantasticar, Spider-Crawler, and Thor's Chariot would all work great. The Bast Statue and Knull's essense would probably have to be smaller sets more about the figs, but I think Knull's essence could work especially if they incorporated the victory animation where Venom bursts out of it. There are also a number of characters who could hold battle pack builds or side builds in larger sets: Punisher's Turret, Peni's mech (normal sized), Monster Hulk, Rocket's inventions, etc Finally there's a number of vehicles shown in maps that could be used- The Quinjet could make a Hydra Base set work a lot better, and on the Spider-Islands map there's a Peni mech that's almost the exact size of a $15 mech set compared to the character model of it. And of course a buildable Jeff. I'll second the Thunderbolts train. Lego, you give me a $20 battle pack with John Walker, Yelena Belova, Ghost, and Bucky, and I'll army build it and put them on a grey baseplate as if it's massable figures. That's what you want, right Lego? Yeah, exactly. The second we got RDDoom my optimism from the Russos being hired plummeted.
  15. Disclaimer: There is absolutely zero logic here. How is it that I have a star wars MOC wave half done, two D2C sized MOCs partially made, and two more MOC waves and Ideas projects in the pipeline but THIS is the one I ended up finishing quickly? Alright, so if you're blissfully unaware of what's going on here, this is a culmination of layers upon layers of in-jokes and irony stemming from the 2024 Batman thread, mainly that: A: The current state of lego DC is so dour and solely batman oriented that Superman, one of the main DC characters, getting his first figure (and just from a mech at that) in 5 years is considered a massive win for the theme B: We had a set last year that included three batman, two jokers, and no one else, just to reinforce that first point. C: That "Aslume" thread has reached a self-replicating layer of insanity and in-jokes, including one user's worship of the CMF demolition dummy figure from 2010, another's love for Andor villain Dedra Meero, and an overall lack of on-topic conversation This is meant as a joke, so I didn't spend a ton of time on it, which means no custom prints, no real building techniques, etc. The idea behind this is, I guess, that it's a celebration of Superman finally getting another figure, as well as a spoof of the X-men Hellfire Gala event which'll be showing up in Marvel Rivals in a bit. Alright, so... let's try to break down what's going on here, I guess. This is a series of vignettes based on different user in-jokes in eurobricks threads. As should be immediately apparent to anyone who knows what a Gala is, I do not, and assumed it was just like a party or dance. Alright so here's the main floor of the Gala, where users such as @Lego Nostalgia, @psqidexslizer, and @BrickBob Studpants dance along with Superman, several Batman and Jokers, and some other Aslume characters. A look around back. I assume most Galas don't have disco balls but I felt it's what Superman (that's where the soup in soup-simmered-on-a-medium-heat gala is coming from, it's just a play on his name that's been around for a bit now) would have wanted. There's also a table with some superman cookies. I felt like a big dance floor was kind of boring so I made some smaller builds for other members based on their recent activity in the thread. Here's MandalorianKnight, @ARC2149Nova, @Swordy, and @CloneCommando99 sitting around a holotable brainstorming characters. A look around the back. This was mainly just an excuse for me to make another set of stairs, I like using this set of two plate high stairs with alternating studs. Here's @Renny The Spaceman (Wearing Demo Dummy cufflinks) summoning Demolition Dummy on an alter of candlesticks and dummy minifigures. He forms himself out of the four primordial elements: Earth, Fire, Water, and Cheese. Here's @Murdoch17 and @Agent Kallus chilling out. Gotta ice those puns, guys. Snow way you were getting a different vignette. And finally @THELEGOBATMAN with Dedra Meero. That heart isn't a physical standee, they're generating that. Now if you'll excuse me I'm gonna go contemplate whatever life choices led me to spend a few hours working on this for a bit...
  16. Might not be the same thing Renny's talking about but there's a fairly popular youtube channel that makes skits, their most famous surrounding "the cheeseman", a sentient, humanoid piece of cheese. "Marvel Studios' Cheeseman" is their most popular one to my knowledge. It's not what the inclusion of the cheese as a primordial element is referring to, but it's where my mind goes when I hear "cheeseman". Yes that's definitely what I meant, ignore that it's fire in the final renders, that's actually a replication of funnel cake and I accidentally swapped the color off dark orange. Final Soupfire images are rendering. 0 skillful building techniques. 0 custom prints. 7 mental illnesses gained during the build. I know you're all waiting with bated breath. EDIT: Gala topic is up.
  17. Yup, a lot of them have been canceled already. Don't get me wrong, you're correct in general. But TMAG is the exception to the rule- it's the most popular characters star wars has put out in decades, and it's farther into production than anything else got. I actually like that it's only two seasons. A lot of shows get worse the longer they go on, and having a set start and finish can help avoid that. Loki is the best disney+ show besides Andor, and it was only about 9-10 hours in total. Yeah we got early leaks but there's still an august wave and an october set. At most there's one small D2C (I use it in the literal "lego exclusive" meaning as opposed to the "big set" connotation it's gotten) left like the 2008 battle pack combo last year or holiday diorama the previous one. Yes TMAG is coming. The only one of those I have any confidence in is the Filoni movie, and that's just because I think they announced it well before it was meant to start production- clearly he's gonna do Ahsoka S2 first. Levy's I think is also fairly likely if they get Gosling because that's too big a name to pass up. Dawn of the Jedi's been pretty quiet so it could go either way but given how the Benoiff and Weiss trilogy, Feige movie, etc went I wouldn't put much stock in it. I absolutely do not think Obaid-Chinoy's movie happens at all. They're fully in the Rian Johnson/Taiki Watiti "no it's happening trust the rumors of script troubles or inferences the movie won't come out are just grifts" phase- I think a Rey movie is possible but like I said it'll be a ship of theseus situation wherein everything aside from "rey movie" is replaced. Luckily we just got Grogu, but that buildable mando statue is coming. You answer the third part with the second. Lego believes that the clones are enough to sell these sets. That said, I don't think it'll work. The UT-AT or RFT or, you know what, the Big Galactic Marine Battle Pack , probably won't do any worse than many of the $110+ sets we've been getting (Though no way it does as well as the 2022 AT-TE or even the 2023 Guard Gunship), but I think the MTT could become a bit of a shelfwarmer. From the clone side of things it's one singular clone trooper in a pretty expensive set, and while people have been saying we need separatist stuff I think a lot of people, me included, would have preferred a brown one. Not to mention that at the end of the day, if you put the good guy vehicle and the bad guy vehicle on shelves at the same time and they're expensive enough that kids can only get one, the kid's choosing the good guy vehicle.
  18. I maintain this'll be a UT-AT with the name "Republic Fighter Tank" since UT-AT's a bit obscure, but I would prefer one that's got a big separatist vehicle with a normal RFT as a side build. I'm not looking for another big republic ground vehicle but I desperately need some separatist representation on my shelves. If that MTT was brown it'd be on my list for the year. It was always going to happen because it's mando, but you bring up the confirmation that it's actually happening. There's footage. They've been filming for some time now. There was a trailer WITH said footage. This is a real movie that's releasing next year. (I feel like this was also always the one that was clearly going to happen because, like I said, it's mando. With a lot of the movies that aren't ever going to release, they have to constantly and somewhat aggressively go "no, it's coming out, all these rumors that production isn't going well aren't true, the movie's happening" whereas with mando it's just been normal film production information and not this delusional "The Rian Johnson trilogy is real" bs with no backup.) (And yes, I am thinking of the New Jedi Order/ Rey movie as well when I say this. I do think a movie with Rey involved will come out eventually, but we've reached a ship of Theseus level where I think the only thing remaining from the original plans is Rey being involved.)
  19. The marines are the one constant about the rumors, they'll be there I'm sure. Mando's N-1 almost certainly wasn't rushed out and was already in the pipeline. (The Baby Yoda Brickheadz provides us with a bare-minimum for how fast lego can put out the lowest effort set at their maximum motivation) And lego absolutely knows about the TIE avenger, and most likely was given concept art of it by the andor team way before we saw it. There's also no reason for lego to fasttrack a TIE avenger like they did baby yoda- we know it typically takes 1.5 years to develop a set, and I can't imagine lego thinks a TIE avenger would do so absolutely gangbusters that they would feel the need to rush that cycle- if they did, we'd have seen one in the may or august waves. Those aren't 2025 sets, and there is no "fall wave" beyond the AC and Death Star. Maybe we get one more like the holiday diorama or 2008 battlepacks remake, but there isn't a secret extra wave of sets this year.
  20. I really doubt it- 1. The death star is gonna be able to re-use a massive amount of prints. Assuming a print stays "Alive" for about 3 years, we've got- 2025: Haha, literally no one, god forbid we have a system OT set this year 2024: Stormtrooper, R2-D2, Darth Vader, TIE Pilot, Imperial Fleet Trooper, Imperial Crew, Imperial Gunner, Imperial Officer (black suit), Chewbacca, C-3PO 2023: Palpatine, ROTJ Luke, Han Solo, 2022: Farmboy Luke, Princess Leia This alone gets us a fair bit over half the figure count considering the imperial multiples and kitbashes like Stormtrooper Luke and Han, and considering that many imperial staff can re-use heads, there'll be more multiples, etc, I don't think the death star will end up altering the budget any more than the standard fig-heavy UCS/MBS set. 2. Lego star wars would have to have had a pretty massive budget drop for this to become a thing. It's how themes like Lego Marvel work, but not star wars. It's not like 2020 had a massive drop in the number of prints because of the cantina. You know what, it would be pretty funny if the set was a $150 Rebel Fleet Trooper macrofig that inexplicably came with galactic marines and Bacara.
  21. Cheeseman is too powerful to be contained in lego form- Dummy requires the four primordial elements to be summoned (Fair, Earth, Water, and Cheese.) Thank you!
  22. The inmates have escaped the Aslume for the Soupfire Gala tomorrow... this is by far the stupidest MOC I've ever made. The bat-forklift was more sane than this.
  23. Thank you! That's one of the craziest ones to me and I don't get why more people aren't talking about it. Not only is it absurd, but self-competing Not gonna lie I actually do like that, always love the super deep cuts from the movies. Any other year I'd be pretty happy with this GWP, and as is I'd be tempted to get it if not for the fact that since I don't want to buy 3 ARC-170s there's no way for me to reach the threshold with 2025 system sets. Hearing that people thought it could be an RFT instead my money's still on it being a UT-AT with the set name "republic fighter tank", unless you've heard otherwise.
  24. Renown quoted his own Lucky hint when he said consensus shifted, which assumably means the hint was based on info that didn't pan out. Correct. To be fair, this one actually feels like a good choice for a GWP with Jango's Slave One. In a normal year I'd probably think it was fairly cool. It's just that this year is so overstuffed with clones.
  25. Leaked one: Slave One (UCS, May), Slave One (System, August) There were rumors of an additional Cadet Disguise Boba in the GWP, but now it sounds like it's just some redshirts, which is better.
