Marvel Superheroes 2020 - Rumors & Discussion
hvader replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
I agree with this statement so much. The 18+ line is anything but 18+. Give us Daredevil. Give us Deadpool. Give us Logan. Nowadays 18+ just becomes a new name for D2C and you wonder what’s the point. For the Lego Marvel design team, I don’t believe the designers know more about Marvel than us fans (ex: calling the Iron Man suits Blazer and Tazer and Big Time Spiderman Ultimate Spiderman). I have a feeling that even if there are hardcore Marvel fans in that team, their voices are not heard enough. A true fan would never favor products like Spidey’s helicopter over something that both makes sense and is fun like the Thanoscopter and think that Square Enix Avengers is the most popular Marvel property of all time and deserves more sets than Endgame. I think Lego got the completely wrong message from the Endgame wave’s success: maybe they thought that simplistic builds that make no sense (Cap’s motorcycle) were the reason why that wave sold instead of the wave being based on the most popular Marvel property ever (talking about Lego Endgame just makes me sad). Also, as much as I love Avengers tower, I hope the 2020 sets didn’t sell well so Lego realizes that their current Marvel products don’t work. That’s the only way they’ll change. Does anyone know the sales numbers for the 2020 sets? -
Exactly. In reality, PG-13 movies can be quite violent and mature. The R-rated movies are restricted usually because they, in addition to what many PG-13 movies have, involve elements like extreme gore and excessive swearing, none of which is necessary for a Batman movie. For sets, based on the first teaser alone, I think a wave of 3 sets would be perfect: a small $10-15 set with Batman and Riddler, a $30-40 set with Batmobile and Penguin’s car, and an $80-100 Batcave or larger structure.

Marvel Superheroes 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

I’ve said this too many times, but my main dissatisfaction with 2020 Marvel comes from the fact that 2019 and 2020 had so many popular Marvel properties like Endgame and Miles Morales PS4, yet Lego went all-in on Square Enix Avengers, which lost a ton of money (and was just a disappointing game). I also wonder who decides what gets made. I don’t believe it’s Marvel because every other toy company is making more Endgame products (it’s also unacceptable that Hasbro’s $10 Endgame kids line has more characters and variants than the Lego wave). Here’s to hoping for a strong 2021 with so many MCU movies (hopefully none gets delayed again) and a potential D2C -

It’s very sad because based on product quality, global appeal, and overall value I believe that LEGO, as both toy and collectible, is superior to Hasbro and Funko, but unfortunately we as Marvel fans can never feel Lego’s prestige when it comes to Marvel products. Hasbro and Funko both know how to take advantage of the biggest franchise of all time (I’ve said this too many times but look at the variants Hasbro and Funko are making for their Endgame lines, which included multiple waves. They are still making Endgame products more than a year after the film’s release. Hasbro just remade the entire Children of Thanos lineup and I as a Lego fan can only dream to get more Endgame products). LEGO, unfortunately for reasons that we may never know, decides that Marvel is not good enough for them to make good sets... If you look at the documentary, Marvel is proud of Hasbro’s Marvel Legends products, and the fact that Lego only gets a few seconds of screentime shows how unimportant and irrelevant this theme is. -

100% agree. I sometimes wonder if the Lego Marvel designers actually like Marvel. The people over at Hasbro responsible for Marvel Legends make all kinds of comic book characters and variants and as a result, the line is immensely popular among both adults and children. Over at Lego, we just get Venom Venom Venom and mechs mechs and more mechs. -
I agree with the need for new animated films and shows, but I don’t necessarily believe that mature = good. We need more serious and mature content for sure, and the stories can’t be overly childish, but the most important things DC needs (for films and shows only) are charismatic characters and convincing stories. You could have a rather simple, straight-forward, and light-hearted plot but still make a good film if your character is relatable and your story is interesting. Speaking of the sets, I think Lego unfortunately doesn’t seem to know what to do when it comes to superheroes. Just look at the Marvel theme, Lego gives us random Spider-Man vehicles and mechs rather than popular variants, characters, locations and vehicles.

LEGO Ninjago 2021

Is the Overlord minifig new or reused with a new helmet and shoulder piece? It looks a lot like the Golden Master figure from 2014 but I’m not sure if the head print is the same as the other Legacy one. -

True haha. I just think it’s interesting that they chose to feature that set rather than an actually good one. -
As excited as I am for Snyder Cut I think it should be a one-time fan event rather than any indication that Snyder is returning to the DCEU. I feel that the DCEU is on the right direction without Snyder. Also for the Batman, I don’t know why everyone is saying it will be R-rated? The trailer does not look R-rated at all to me. We can still have a mature and grim PG-13 Batman film, just look at The Dark Knight.

Interestingly I recently watched the Marvel 616 documentary on Disney+ and there was an episode on Marvel toys. In one scene, the Marvel merchandise supervisor was looking at the Spider jet from 2020 and saying that it looks really good. Maybe you’re right, Marvel might only care that their characters are decently well represented in these toys. -
Ok the Overlord dragon looks much better in the out of box image. I kind of love it

It's a shame that the DC theme is seemingly not doing too well. I have a feeling that Justice League's underwhelming performance at the box office diminished DC's brand. The movies released afterward were not able to revive the brand either (Joker, an immensely successful DC film, was not part of the DCEU and did not make too many ties with the larger DC universe. Plus it's R rated, so no chance for Lego sets). I think that explains the lack of DC sets and the absence of non-Batman sets. The DC universe is fantastic, and I think all the upcoming films look promising (The Batman especially). I hope DC regains its popularity, and we see more quality DC sets in the future.

Same. The MCU sets are usually much more interesting than the comics ones in my opinion. -

I just really don’t see how this set is NOT Endgame, or maybe like I said that’s just me being too optimistic -

Speaking of the D2C, I could be overly optimistic, but does anyone else think that the reason why LEGO refused to make more accurate Endgame sets is that the D2C is Endgame? It’s the only explanation for why LEGO didn’t cash in on the biggest movie of all time. -

Me too. I think the helmets would have been perfect chances to give us exclusive figs, like Mark 3 in the Iron Man one -

We don’t know FFF’s exact size in the film yet, so maybe instead of being the main build, he’d be a side build or brick-built character like Steppenwolf I’m also excited to get Shang-Chi in the sets. Licensed Asian heroes are so rare in Lego. -

Me too. A WandaVision set would be fantastic. The other one may be a Shang-Chi or Falcon and Winter Soldier set. I also would not be surprised if they made another Black Widow set with Snow Suit Widow and Red Guardian with helmet -
I think you may have seen the Overlord figure as Nya, since the image was so blurry

LEGO Star Wars 2021 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

WOW this is some pleasant surprise! Love the X-Wing and TIE Fighter. This is perfect for people who want to army-build these vehicles. If I were to nit-pick, I'm disappointed that the TIE fighter was not the rumored Moff Gideon TIE -
Agreed it's not the ideal look, but I'm just happy that after 8 years of wanting an Overlord dragon, we finally got him.

Yeah... I really think these helmets should include minifigs, but I'd be happy with anything Lego does for Venom 2 lol. We need some non-MCU movie sets
