Marvel Superheroes 2020 - Rumors & Discussion
hvader replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
Now when I was a kid, I loved the villains even more than the heroes because they looked cooler to me. People need to stop thinking that all kids are less smart than us adults. They know what they want and they know when the products they buy are bad. I think Lego also knows that kids like villains. Otherwise why would they make so many versions of Thanos (but they never made the most desirable version -- Bald Thanos ) -
I actually think there's less to do for DC in terms of D2C. Everything I could think of that fits the $300 price point are already made. It's most likely Marvel (however I wouldn't complain if the D2C is a Dark Knight trilogy set)

Marvel Superheroes 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

To be honest, Lego isn’t the best toy company when it comes to making decisions about what media properties to make tie-in sets for and how to make tie-in products. Producing a million Square Enix sets is not the first time that Lego has decided to invest in an unpopular media property. Remember when Lego made sets based off movies like Angry Birds and TMNT 2014 and the sets flopped with the movies? I don’t know how the Trolls World Tour sets did but a lot of people disliked the idea when it came out (at least it did well on PVOD so maybe Lego made the right call?) Anyways, I believe that Lego needs to do a better job coordinating with movie companies to make sure that they make sets that people want and don’t waste effort on properties that people dislike. I really think the new 18+ line should include actual adult-themed sets, like sets based off the Netflix Defenders (unlikely now they’re canceled but just to make the point) and Logan. -

I respectfully disagree. I was a kid when I saw the first Avengers movie, and I remember wanting Leviathan and Helicarrier over a Captain America motorcycle or part of the Helicarrier's interior. Accurate sets do not have to be boring like Stark's office. I believe that no kid would reject builds like Iron Monger, the quantum tunnel from Endgame, or Sanctuary II. For Wandavision, I agree the builds may sound boring like "Wanda's living room," but Lego already makes these kinds of builds in other lines such as Creator, City, and Friends. Even if kids don't like them, Lego has an 18+ line, and they know that adults collect Lego Marvel too (ex: Iron Man's helmet). I see where you're coming from, but there are so many builds from the Marvel universe that kids and adults can both enjoy more than mechs and helicopters. I don't deny that Lego is a fantastic toy company but they just don't seem to spend as much effort on Marvel nowadays (I believe they have their reasons, but as a Marvel fan, this is a little frustrating). Sorry if I seem too fixated about this topic. I just really want to see good Lego Marvel sets (like the Bridge Battle) that everyone will be happy with again :) -

That’s still not an excuse for to make disappointing sets with variants that no one asked for. I understand that Lego Marvel is more targeted towards children compared to the other toy lines, but children also buy Funko and Marvel Legends. Furthermore, I’m convinced they also prefer to have movie-accurate sets rather than mechs again and again. -

It’s not Marvel’s fault that Lego makes square enix sets instead of Insomniac sets (and don’t tell me it’s licensing because they clearly had the license to make SDCC figs). It’s not Marvel’s fault that we got stupid mechs again and again while Hasbro, Funko, Bandai, and basically everyone else were making Endgame wave 2. It’s not Marvel’s fault that Lego decides to treat Marvel as a kids-only theme and completely ignores the teen and adult fans. All I hope is for Lego to make characters and variants that we want. That’s all I hope for. -

True, however, the AOS and Netflix shows have more "adult" themes, which explains why Lego might have not chosen those variants. Furthermore, they are canceled shows, so I'm not sure how much lego would want to make tie-ins for those. -

Couldn’t agree more. All the other toy companies that make Marvel toys are ahead of Lego when it comes to giving fans what they want The frustration of a Lego Marvel collector: When you collect Lego Marvel, you have to worry about them not making sets related to a popular movie/TV show. When Lego finally confirms that they’re making tie-in sets, you have to worry about the quality of these sets, as they could be terrible. When the other toy companies start making accurate MCU sets after the film’s release (like Endgame) and you’re excited for Lego to do the same, they give you Square Enix sets... And don’t forget we have 0 sets based on the Miles Morales game (if you don’t count the exclusive minifig), an actually good and popular Marvel game -

It’s sad that we won’t be getting anything Marvel this year, but hopefully this means that we are still on track for getting LEGO WandaVision sets. -

Marvel Legends is doing so well with producing Marvel characters and variants fans want. I can only dream that LEGO comes close to that... -
A new Grindelwald hair piece is a must

Now that's a replacement I like. Mads Mikkelsen is going to nail the role

And that’s what gets me confused. The point of comic sets is to give us characters who have not appeared in the MCU yet and thus do not have a Lego minifig form. If Lego is making those MCU characters anyway, why not just make movie variants? They gave us minifig Thanos twice because they know that he’s popular, but couldn't they just release accurate bald Thanos -- the figure everyone wants? -

I feel that the comics version was more like the SS one and the movie version is more like the blue one that we're about to get -

If Mysterio ever returns in the MCU (which I think he will), Lego should rerelease this figure with accurate gold armor printing (kind of like what they did with mark 46 and mark 47, where the patterns are the same but colors are different) and the Sesame Street helmet -

It won't. Lego is already deviating away from that game in the 2021 wave -

These are fantastic ideas! I'd be happy if Lego makes even 1 or 2 of these sets -

I agree with you 100%. What angers me about the Square Enix sets is not just that the character designs are terrible, but also because making these sets came at the cost of fewer MCU sets, especially when the Endgame sets are not even accurate. We could have gotten bald Thanos instead of minifig Thanos, we could have gotten Bro Thor instead of the same Square Enix Iron Man variant, and they could have gone back in history and made Iron Monger instead of random mechs. Nobody asked for Square Enix Lego, and everyone knew the game would be unpopular, yet Lego insists on making more tie-in sets of this game than Endgame. While having 0 info on Disney+ sets, we know we'll get even more inaccurate Marvel mechs... The fact that Lego continuously refuses to give us the most obvious things that we want baffles me. I hope by this point, Lego realizes that it can't just slap the Marvel logo on sets and expect them to do well. Knowing that we're even having doubts about the $300 D2C being a good and proper MCU set concerns me. -

The Square Enix Avengers game lost the company $63 million. I don't know how the tie-in sets did but PLEASE Lego, stop making so many sets with variants that nobody cares about (I desperately hope the Iron Man from the Thanos set is not a reuse of the Square Enix version). -
It’s even more ironic considering that Mads Mikkelsen is Danish... I would love to get a minifig of him if he’s the new Grindelwald
-
I saw a Collider article that speculates the actors who could replace Depp. Aside from Colin Farrell (the obvious choice), I think RDJ could be an unexpected but extremely interesting choice for Grindelwald. He also has great on-screen chemistry with Jude Law based on their performances in the Sherlock Holmes series. No matter who plays Grindelwald, I just hope Lego makes more sets this time than the previous two films.

I think we're near the very last stage of that product's run, if not already at the end. I hope with the Lego Shop@Home release 1) most people in the US who want the set got it and 2) the set's value drops significantly to the Wonder Woman set level (about $50-$60) so everyone can get it. -
I think they'll have Colin Farrell reprise the role. The Lego face print may not necessarily change as the new Grindelwald will look similar to the Depp version.
