  1. That's when you know it's gone mad, when I can't keep taking the piss
  2. He said yes Mr Imposter, he recommends it
  3. I think it started there but there's too much separation now to really consider it relevant. But yeah, stopping is good
  4. Cmon, you can't be arguing that "there are applause breaks in plays therefore they're fine in movies" they are different mediums, there's a fundamental difference in how they work. Namely one of them involves a live audience and how the actors play off them is a key facet of it. Also, obviously, once again a comedic work having relevant humour based on the society it was made and released in is fundamentally different from the IP dickwagging of modern films. There's a difference between a writer choosing to make their work play off existing works and a corporate checklist of IPs to advertise that they all own from buying numerous companies. I hate being rude but if you're gonna be so condescending please actually read what the people talking to you are saying beforehand. This isn't even tangentially related to LEGO anymore, I think I've gotta stop here it's dumb
  5. That's different still though. My point wasn't legally dubious sequels or remakes of stories, it's specifically the very modern thing where studios show of the IP catalogue they bought with applause breaks. There's always been degrees of dependency on other works in art, but this is a very modern thing. There are outlier exceptions I'm sure of it, there were westerns, disaster movies, zombie movies, superhero movies and so on before their periods of dominating the market. Yeah, it's definitely funny, might have to tap out soon. Far more interesting then the time loop from earlier though
  6. I really don't think you do, I'm not looking for anything static because I'm not arguing about "creativity" because that's a broad nebulous term. Like this is a hard conversation because it's spun into two, one about LEGO and one about the state of the film industry and while there is an overlap there's a distinct difference between using AI to bring back dead actors and basing toys of old movies. Like I've not made any arguments that licences should stop, I've made jokes about it reminding me of the general Funko Pop culture going around but there is a fundamental difference between being inspired and just recreating an old thing, doesn't mean the second thing is without merit but I think it's silly to act like to act like there's no difference or because it makes most sense financially no-one be can honestly dislike it. Dial of Destiny is dependent on emotional attachment to the original films but most people who see raiders have never even watched the classic adventure serials that inspired it. There's a difference there that isn't innately better but fundamental to how the art is viewed. If an original LEGO theme had the almost a hundred quid grey baseplate with figures format it wouldn't survive
  7. Yeah, I thought he was too years back when I decided to look into it, he ain't. There was a private server that added him as a playable skin with other characters a few years back but that was never in the game proper. He's there for Emmet, (He's one of the only Masterbuilders who doesn't pelt him with objects or get mad with him in the meeting) Emmet saves the universe. He's playable pretty much from the start of City Undercover, Chase defeats Rex Fury and his boss. They don't invite him to save imagination? They fail horribly. More than a coincidence is all I'll say, Dummy secretly carries all these heroic quests
  8. I agree, I've never asked for that though, again this isn't an argument for what I've said, you're arguing against points you've made up. I don't think old themes should go on forever, I know nothing is designed to. Once again, not what I've said, I'm not talking about references, that completely irrelevant to the topic of LEGO themes. Arguing the value of inspiration from is more an argument for original themes because they play of classic movies and genres while doing their own thing. And of course if we wanna talk about modern movies it's still not a valid comparison. Of course with all these classic literary works there wasn't a company that bought the rights to them all and made a legacy sequel to king Lear without Shakespeare where Juliette and Othello and a puppeteered corpse of the original actor for Prospero came out of a portal and just said famous lines from theor plays again. Inspiration used to be people take older works and put them in new contexts and formats. Now it's spending millions on trying to exactly recreate every element of how it used to be in that original. A valid comparison to the way literary works inspire future works would be Raiders, it's inspired by classic adventure serials and makes allusions to various ones but tells it's own original story with that. Hell, look at Star Wars! Before it was a thing and spending millions on evil deepfake tech George wanted to do a Flash Gordon movie, only when turned down did he opt to do his own space opera. If he did that there'd be less risk going into the film, he wouldn't have had to bank on toy sales being good to get paid, there'd be an inbuilt audience. In the short term a way better idea, but then you never get Star Wars, everything that all the SW fans here loves about that franchise never get made, because they played it safe with an IP. You know I'm worried I've not conveyed myself well here because you seem smart but you're consistently responding to arguments I didn't make which makes me feel like it's something on my end. I hope this is clearer but I might stop responding soon because I'm struggling to see what I'm not conveying here.
  9. Yeah, I really should have expected it, honestly it's on all of us for trying to engage with it
  10. Well it turns out memory did not serve, I looked into it, trust me. Certain series 1 and 2 CMFs were there, the Robot and Spartan I know definitely were, but not anywhere near the entire lot. The only place online claiming the game to have ever had any representation of him is Brickapedia stating his face was in the customizer but online footage of it shows ,while many series 1 faces were, the Dummy was not amongst them. The Dummy was never in the game, every other vendor is documented
  11. This isn't even a rebuttal to the stupid shit I actually said, you made up a different, tangentially related stupid argument and combated that. A formulaic movie series or cat memes aren't really a fair comparison. The Reddit thing about marvel movies is how they're so dependent on referencing other films that people are nostalgic for the the point these movies literally pause for applause breaks now. You get movies like Wreck it Ralph 2 or Space Jam 2 that stop to show the corporation that made it's IP catalogue. But, since I guess I have to say it, I don't actually think that this stuff causes the end of the world. I just think it's a little cringe and exaggerated that mild dislike I don't really care about because I was given a very easy set up to do so. But also Ready Player One was, in fact, the death of not just someone's culture but everyone's culture. That's the beginning of the end. It got stupid long ago, this thread is an endless back and forth of: "They should bring back the way they did LEGO when I was a kid" immediately followed by "You're nostalgia blind, unlike me who grew up with LEGO licences and want them for everything I'm nostalgic about." "It's more creative by my arbitrary standards!" "But it makes them more money!" This entire thing is circular.
  12. No, my point about terminal amounts of Reddit is an absolutely genuine thing I definitely believe and also objectively true. You know this and the fact you feign ignorance says a lot about your lack of integrity.
  13. Listen, I don't wanna come off like I'm biased here but there's no way Mandalorian wins this right? Like half of his declaration of war he's talking about impenetrable armour he has but he's only wearing a helmet. I
  14. I mean these aren't helping your case tbh. These actions are gonna get this completely new user confused with Turtle and banned unfairly I do, however. You see LEGO going this way proves the death of western culture as every single thing on earth becomes like ready player one, every movie, show, game toy and more will be about the sorta pop culture crossovers you can get behind, this process is called redditing. Many people are under the misconception that LEGO doesn't do a Deadpool figure again because of his franchise's R rating, this is wrong, the reason they don't is if they do then the company will become what is scientifically known as "terminally Reddit" which they can never recover from. So to answer the title of this, yes there are too many licensed themes and it's bringing us dangerously close to the point of no return
  15. It's very funny, definitely made some kids cry. All I'm gonna says is if the Dummy was there it wouldn't have gone down like that, there'd have been purple blood on the screen
  16. I mean that's canon. I swear I heard when the game shut down the creators said it was because the Maelstrom won
  17. Fair honestly. I think of everybody in the Aslume you both have done the most for his legacy and been the most open about the themes you're into.
  18. Damn, poor Commando, gotta sting. I think if you're trying to pick holes in his arguments you need to learn a thing or two about picking your battles. TLMs are really interesting as the film models and designs are done by LEGO designers to the needs of the filmmakers, it's an interesting blend of licensed and original (like just think how odd it is that the Ninja designs chosen by the crew behind the LEGO Ninjago movie are still used today, same prints and all) and I think where it lands for each movie is interesting in terms of the sets. If we're talking just about the sets though I feel the first LEGO Movie feels like it leans more original. Especially as the only element from any licensed theme is two Batman figures in later sets. Fun thing to discuss in this context though!
  19. Right? Seriously @psqidexslizer you're really far behind. Hell for like a year now the various Star Wars fans here have been using it to just talk about the series. Anything not against the Eurobricks rules is fair game
  20. I laid out who would very clearly, people who don't like nonces and people who understand contact with Dummy improves things tenfold. Adventurers also general has a much more engaging aesthetic and more variety in sets. Indy isn't bad but it's a downgrade. It's not even like a bad theme, one of the stronger licenses of it's era but Adventures is a lot more fun. Plus Australian accents are fun Yeah, I think it's a shoe in for an eventual icons set at the least. I mean they've remade all of the three main protagonists recently and Johnny's been an enduring LEGO icon in sets, games and the parks for decades now. Not unthinkable but no where near a guarantee. Even if it was success is relative. Adventures was a solid hit for LEGO at a time they needed it, Indy was positioned to be the one of their big hitters like Star Wars in a time they were much more comfortable and it failed to have any legs twice. That's a far more disappointing and embarrassing fate. The only thing nearly as embarrassing would be spending millions on a legacy sequel attempting to "fix" the previous conclusion only to wind up with a movie that refuses to have a single positive to entice a new audience and entirely dependent on an aging preexisting fanbase with enough common sense to steal clear of the dud.
  21. I mentioned this in another thread but Adventurers lasted longer than both Indy runs put together. The people yearn for Johnny Thunder because, unlike Indy, he's not a predator. Also being the bum that he is Indy's never met the Dummy where as Mr Thunder crossed paths with the Dummy twice to our knowledge. Okay, I'll bite how'd you win him? He's generally a psychiatrist who's biggest claim to fame is working out Batman's identity in various continuities. He's most well known for the Arkham games and the "Batman: Pey" comic, the latter is kinda a time capsule to how therapy was viewed in the 20th century, it also includes this panel.
  22. I bet this made his face light up like a bright kryptonite
  23. Elaborate might be a stretch, it's literally one new piece in Power Miners' case. It could be but also the general trend with every LEGO theme is each year gets a refresh, with themes like Adventurers and Alpha Team they had their most major revamp in their last wave, which is almost always just a 1HY wave, hell even something like Agents which kept the same design language rebranded to Agents 2.0 in their last wave. That doesn't innately imply greater plans any more than Ninjago introducing new molds for Stone Warriors and a new colour scheme for the ninja in the 1HY wave in 2013 meant they wanted to do more. With LEGO original themes this is just how they go most of the time.
  24. Sorta weird to lump in Atlantis and Power Miners here. The immediate post recession environment changed how LEGO worked. There's not a regular play theme licensed or otherwise started in the 2008-2010 period that stuck around for much more than 2 years. Harry Potter even back then was quickly brushed aside despite it formerly being of the same pedigree as LEGO Star Wars keeping it around after the movies wasn't an option. It's not really the same thing. Of course going down that rabbit hole we could say themes like The last airbender, Indiana Jones (twice), Sam Raimi Spider-Man, Ninja Turtles, Speed Racer and so on mean licenses aren't worth the effort. Well, to be fair, Adventures lasted longer than both Indy runs put together To be honest I could make the argument that "yes of course there's more money that goes into an original theme (though making a cohesive world is an odd thing to zero in on, like aside from the TV show themes there's very little lore for original themes, it's almost always just "bad guys need to collect all of X to take over the world") but the trade off for that is no licensing fee and by owning it completely it allows them to further monetise that IP and make they're brand stronger in the long run." But that's dumb, I don't really care about that nor am I particularly married to that belief. I don't care about LEGO's bottomline, why would I? Like I feel a lot of the arguments people make for why LEGO should do more original themes are weak, just vague platitudes about "creativity" that haven't really been thought of much, I think it's very easy to argue against so when people start talking about how "well if LEGO does that then they'll make less profit than usual" it's a little embarrassing. They have better arguments why are they using this, they don't really care about that because otherwise they wouldn't complain when say sets based off a license you like are entirely focused on a particular faction that sells better as of late, or a Captain America figure from the wrong movie is included or a certain character not getting new molds or prints. All of these things make perfect business sense because the average consumer doesn't care at all, they probably don't even notice. You don't actually care about how much richer LEGO gets this quarter, you want them to make better products that appeal to you. The people arguing for original themes want the same, you just both disagree on what qualifies for better. Argue about that part because that's the part you actually care for.
  25. A good point though the other Possession vehicles were pretty forgettable, I can't really see a remake of the Jay Walker One or Cole's bike. I think all of those seasons have pretty forgettable and generic Ninja vehicles bar Zane's mech and given how LEGO doesn't like villain or location sets that definitely leaves less options. Wasn't there a planned Legacy wave that was scrapped pretty late for Core? Could those be repurposed?
