  1. What an incredibly nice looking ship. 'Chebecs' were used by Barbary pirates in the Mediterranean if I'm not mistaken. Or were those 'galleys'? Darn I can't remember, it were Arab sailing vessels for sure I know that much, their sleek fast hulls were ideal to capture Christian slaves! :-$ I believe it's because of the rather awkward position of the cargo door which makes the positioning of cannons in the middle bit precarious.
  2. I may sound like a terrible newb/noob (whatever spelling you prefer) asking this but what do you mean with the words burps and lurps? *wacko*
  3. Though (and that's sad if you'd admit some bias on my part) most great battles were won by the British that doesn't mean that, at times, the British lost from others. The British have won and lost a fair share of battles from the Dutch, French, Spanish (well not too sure about the Spanish ever winning), the Americans and other colonial powers as well. And just like they handed it out, they also received a spanking now and then. ;-)
  4. I disagree. Humour helps one to relativate situations. To place things in perspective, and it makes people happy in the process too. The minute people can't laugh anymore and start taking offense to what's being said is the moment society is in trouble. The moment something becomes a taboo. Sure, you can still discuss it in a serious adult kinda way but humour shows, in its own way, that you're completely fine with debating every possible topic, no matter how personal. And that's still something else than outright mockery or sarcasm. The entire Dutroux-affaire shocked many here in Belgium yet it couldn't stop people making jokes about a psychopathic pedofile who locked little girls in his basement for many years. But that wasn't because they were out to shock the families of the girls that died, nor the girls that survived the entire ordeal. If you make fun of something because you're deliberately after them (as individuals or as a group) personally and you're out to hurt them (of course meaning what you say) - that's wrong. If you make fun of something because you have a sense of humour, because you want to point out certain things or something else that doesn't involve taking the mick out of people - that's good and by all means will I promote it. Whether such humour is about our daily lives, religion, politics or anything else. But since THAT is forbidden as well on EB I can hardly do so here. (I've been knocked in the chamber once for doing a similar thing and I don't intend to do so twice.)
  5. Though it would probably double the cost of your bridge, have you thought of making it a double decker one? I feel the design you've so far used would be perfect when you adjust it a bit here and there to accomodate a second deck. *sweet*
  6. David guy = my brother = Errorist
  7. It's David, ;-)
  8. Couldn't say it better myself. In spite of me liking to be able to discuss such matters, you have a good point I can only abide by.
  9. I must say your boats swain bears a striking resemblance to Bonaparte. Or do you fail to see so? :-P By the way, as good as the light bley cat head might look, I believe it's simply too big! How 'bout using something else to decorate the end of the beams? Not all cat-head beams were decorated with cat heads afterall. Just a lot, but not all *pirate*
  10. As good as the series if you ask me! *y* Zoidberg's minifig head cracks me up! :-P My only comment, or rather question would be the scale comparison between ship, building and minifigs. The ship seems awefully small. Is he sure he got the scale right or did he do it deliberately?
  11. Well I never expected it to actually come through anyway. Didn't even intend it like that, just wanted to make a small point, no more.
  12. I'd love to have a place where we could, as Tau pointed out, respectfully debate politics and religion in a polite, adult and rational way. I'm always up for such discussions. And it is after all, only by doing it in such a way that we possibly might even learn from each other. I'm far more inclined to listen to another who treats me with respect and explains his point of view in a rational way and is in turn open to counter-arguments. And I believe the same goes for everybody else who finds himself in a debate. I've noticed the people on EB come from many different backgrounds and countries and thus have many different perspectives on life. After all, I can see that the admins don't want people to fight, but we can hardly learn from one another if we bury such topics alltogether, can we? What if the admins "restrict" access to that particular forum only to those they know will not violate the rules? That might be one way of preventing a loudmouth "youtuber" kind of guy to come in and ruin things for everybody else. Anyway, that's just my two cents and that being said I'm not gonna participate in a topic on such a matter unless it's oke for the staff. *y*
  13. Why, yesterday! In the bathtub no less! :-P
  14. Well, that was utter crap to read! :-P Just kidding with ya!, absolutely amazing. you can really see how much work you put in! The effects, the story, the ships and jokes - it all reads and looks terribly, fantastically something, I don't know if there's a word for it My only comment would be the post fight interaction between the officers. I've already told you but just to reiterate, after fights they were incredibly friendly towards each other. Even going as far as inviting one another to fight and offering their sables for 'good sportsmanship'. I guess I've always liked that gentlemen thing about the age of sail. I don't like Bundy/Errorist - he's mean X-D Other than that I support Mister Phes' complaint about the focal point being a tad off, though that's merely a small detail which I hadn't even noticed 'till he brought it up. What I like most about the fight scene is the overall shot from the mast tops. Brilliant! *y* I can imagine you're not able to put a naval encounter in every episode (cause that would minimise the effect of such scenes) just to entertain us but I most certainly look forward to the next one!
  15. OMG! There's some kind of furry beast making its move to attack! Watch out Phred! X-D I see you too trust the power of the (X)box. Wow, those spardeck walls are gigantic. Nonetheless it's shaping up great! I really like te side ladders, probably one of the most mundaine details you put in *wub* Keepu up the good work, is all I can say *y*
  16. Well, I don't quite know what to say. At first glance the new banner is a vast improvement compared to the old one. The new darker colours add a little something I can't put my finger on to the forums. I'd guess seriousness is the best I could describe it. But that is and remains, for me at least, the positive side of it all. The new layout, especially the darker colours combined with the new background, make reading or even looking at the screen for that matter, and incredibly fatigueing job. Almost an overflow of info, too much for the eyes, and after a while the brains, to handle. It gives me a headache. That being said, this is purely commenting on EB as a site. I greatly appreciate the admins spending so much of their own time on doing research and coming up with something everybody likes, or dislikes the least. So while it's a nice effort you've done ... and don't hate me please for saying so (you after all asked our opinion) ... I feel overall the old look was a tad less stressful.
  17. Well, the LDD ship he's more or less basing his WIP on is complete. Errorist' frigate - bs gallery That's the link, though technically a WIP, I believe the LDD design is a worthy MOC in its own right X-D and can be added to the digital design section
  18. I was just going through the Ship index when I noticed the Digital designs hadn't been updated. Errorist's frigate design hasn't been added yet: X-D Frigate - BS Link By the way, why are the two big WIPs (Phred's Constitution and Errorist' frigate not included either? :-$ Or do only finished works get added?
  19. They look so *wub* I love Ghenghis Khan and Attila by the way, though I find the Mexican bandito the funniest by far X-D *y* I like a man who knows his (world) history ;-)
  20. oh really?, last time I checked only admins gave titles and there's only one admin who speaks Dutch that I can think of, X-D unless klootzak means the same in French, English and/or other languages which I doubt :-P :-D
  21. I'm learning German as well actually, though I have massive trouble as well. If only the Belgian education system would start German training in elementary like they do with French I now might actually be able to constrcut decent scentences without making every possible mistake there is to make! >:-( Though being a native Dutch speaker, German is easy to understand. I'd recommend the uncut, German version of Das Boot as well as the traditional German channels such as WDR and such (if you have hem in the states) And also, this very funny schlager song my German teacher made us listen to last year X-D X-D Reinhard May -
  22. Congartulations Benk! And thank you Captain Klootzak for a very fun contest *y* :-P Nou, nou, nou, Wie zou je die title hebben gegeven? X-D
  23. I wouldn't comment in a thread about a ship ebing built in the house I live in if it were not for my incredibly lame understanding of the concept 'humor' :-P And maybe I'll overcome my laziness, get my megablocks off the couch and walk to the next room to look at it with my own eyes instead of surfing to EB for pictures! X-D ... Nope, couch it is! :-D
  24. I don't get Fox where I live but isn't the colbert report the show where the guy invites people to respectfully tell their point of view and subsequently literally tells them to shut up if they deviate from his right wing thinking? :-D Don't even see the point in a debate if you've already made up your mind about the other guy and refuse to listen. :-/ I quite like this topic as it's the only one I've encountered so far in which politics can be openly discussed without ripping each other's haeds off, hell without even insulting one another. All political systems are based on a certain philosophy, following certain reasoning. All try to (in theory at least) achieve what's best for society though all do it in different ways. The same reasoning with different values in mind can lead to quite opposing systems. Doest take away the fact that you can learn something from it. If people in a political debate would sit down and listen to one another, as opposed to being obsessed with winning, the outcome would almost certainly be better for society as a whole.
  25. And thou needs suggestions X-O ? That's absolutely wonderful, you are indeed a clever building and your techniques never cease to amaze me! *sweet* I really like your cannon's smooth barrel I'd install some kind of shop (perhaps a fish shop?) in the lower left-hand building, I feel the setting is just great for that. I'm not so sure though about the right hand building. While cleverly and superbly built, it looks, especially in combination with the floor and the left hand building, kinda dull. I suggest adding a bit more colour to liven things up. :-$ (making the floor brown, parhaps?) I'd also remove the toilet and turn it into a tavern/hotel where pirates, traders, soldiers and all kinds of other filth wander in and brawl. :-P If you want o add anything else, you might want to extend the docks for more room though I guess that goes without saying. :-D Those are just my suggestions/preferences though, X-D
