Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors, Wishlists and Discussion

I think there's a bit more wiggle room when it comes to fantasy settings, because Star Wars and The Hobbit have both had bar-ish sets as well. -

I think that's what Felkin meant, using a literal definition of modular, not necessarily sets akin to the Modular Buildings line. And that's exactly what I'd like to see too - but I don't think it would have to wait until after the current line of Hogwarts modules; there could easily be one of each at a time. I honestly think Hogsmeade would be a pretty good candidate for the next D2C; it's at least iconic enough to be represented in the Universal theme park. (I know I keep bringing up the parks, but to me they seem like the best indicator of public interest in particular locations.) Of course, that's assuming another D2C set would focus on a location - the spectacular new T. rex set coming soon kind of has me hoping for a huge brick-built magical creature of some kind. -
Yeah, that's all I'm really trying to get at - Pirates diverged in many significant ways from then-current design standards, and the most cursory glance at any AFOL forum will show that accepting change is... not a strong suit. Let's not delude ourselves into thinking anything from the past was somehow perfect just because an outlet for the incessant whining that has become the defining feature of fandom wasn't around at the time.

Pretty definitive statement from someone who wasn't even alive at the time. I would bet literally any amount of money in the entire world that if AFOL websites had existed in 1989, there would have been plenty of complaining.

The most memorable thing about that list was the fact that a translation error resulted in the Fat Friar being called "Thick Monk." I think it also had the Weasley twins, Moaning Myrtle, and Madame Hooch, but I can't really be bothered to seek out the full list.

The Lego Movie 2 - The Second Part 2019 Set Discussion

I cannot recommend the Party Bus highly enough! I got it mostly on a whim (I had loads of VIP points to burn and honestly the biggest initial draw for me was getting the first set to feature a new color), but I had a blast building it. The fold-out functions and light brick feature make it the most entertaining LEGO vehicle set I've seen in... well, ever. -

I am 100% on board with these ideas. If I could really have my way, I'd throw in Florean Fortescue's as well, but I don't remember if that even showed up in the movies - I just really liked the ice cream there when I went to Universal Studios. -

As Aanchir mentioned in the Pirates anniversary discussion thread, "twenty years of" is a lot more marketable than "twenty years since," which is why the things that have gotten anniversary marketing pushes in recent years (Technic, the modern LEGO brick, minifigures, LEGO Star Wars) have been themes or elements that have had a continuous presence since their introduction. That said, sets like the Ecto-1, 1966 Batcave, and now the Apollo 11 Lunar Lander have focused on the anniversaries of their source material, so Harry Potter stands a better chance of getting some kind of anniversary-themed marketing than Pirates ever did. It just wouldn't be framed as the 20th anniversary of LEGO Harry Potter so much as just the 20th anniversary of the film franchise. -

Interesting! Out of all the ships from the final battle I wouldn't have picked Lucy & Mayhem's to be made as a set, but I guess that one best represents the spirit of teamwork and reconciliation that was the driving emotional force of the ending. And of course I'm super hyped for musical MetalBeard! -
Oliver Wood uses regular legs, and he was a fifth year at the time depicted in the Quidditch Match set. So depending on the character, I'd say regular legs as early as Year 5, but definitely by Year 6.

So, just to circle back to the brick-built Niffler speculation, an image has surfaced of a Jurassic Park D2C that I'd say further confirms the viability of large, detailed creature models... -

If it's true that it's based on the 1989 Batman movie, I could see the reveal being around June 23rd, the anniversary of its release, much like how the '66 Batcave was revealed on the 50th anniversary of that show's debut. -
The results video does specifically mention the 25th anniversary of the show's debut, so it seems pretty likely it'll hit shelves this year. Possibly September?

I'm curious what makes you think that has anything to do with LEGO's interests. It's not like they have carte blanche with any license they acquire; the studios still have the final say over what gets produced, and if they want the focus on current material, then that's what the toy companies make. Not to mention the fact that there is exactly zero evidence that the Trolls and Minions themes won't include anything from previous entries. (Not saying they definitely will, but why bother jumping to those conclusions now, with nothing revealed aside from a couple teaser images?)

It's certainly plausible, especially if the person who saw them is more of a City fan themselves, which would lead to a certain selection bias in which figures stood out to them as worth mentioning. A modern-ish miner would certainly be different enough from the past (Prospector) and future (Space Miner) versions we've already seen. I know I would love a pizza suit and have been expecting one from the moment I saw the watermelon suit. And there are enough different kinds of chefs out there that it wouldn't be too hard to differentiate from the S17 one. All of which is just to say, I don't see any inherent reason to doubt this list, even if I don't see any inherent reason to trust it either.

The Lego Movie 2 - The Second Part 2019 Set Discussion

Yeah, I'm not exactly clamoring for them, I just see it as a possibility. Johnny Thunder already existed too (and had been produced far more recently), but we saw how nuts some corners of the fandom went when he turned up in a set from the first movie. -

Yeah, people from the stands was what I was thinking - could be our opportunity to get a Fabuland character (though it would likely be translated into a standard minifig with molded head or headgear) and another unique minidoll. And wasn't there confirmation already that Justice Ginsburg would be made into an actual minifig too? -

I think maybe the best approach to a wedding set would be something akin to The Justice League Anniversary Party - largely a character pack with just enough of a build to suggest the setting. -

Hoo boy, try asking that in the Star Wars forum if you want to see it blow up into about ten pages of well-actually comments that go absolutely nowhere Come to think of it, though, it might not be that much of a stretch. Even though Fantastic Beasts is less popular as a whole, the Niffler is easily one of the most popular (or at least most heavily-marketed) creatures in the Wizarding World. The Porg set was designed on an abnormally tight schedule, so if it turns out to have a decent return on investment, they might consider replicating that approach here. -
I just had a thought about the Monster Book - another place it could turn up could be Flourish and Blott's if we get a new Diagon Alley. The storefront at the Wizarding World theme park features a cage full of them in the front window!

LEGO Creator 2019 - Rumors, Discussion, and Speculation

Speed Champions are licensed too, but they have yellow minifigs - since they're not depicting specific actual people. Obviously they'll go with realistic flesh-tones if they're intended to be Armstrong and Aldrin, but it's still possible they'll just be generic NASA astronauts too. I could see that happening if, say, the Armstrong estate declined to sign over likeness rights. However, I'm still more inclined to think it will include official Armstrong and Aldrin minifigs, just because the name of the set indicates this is not just an Apollo Lunar Lander, but the Apollo 11 one specifically. Time will tell.- 280 replies
