  1. A big satellite dish build sounds like it could be interesting, if we're talking big enough to be brick-built and not just like a 10x10 dish piece or something. Also adds more fuel to the theories that WW84 will involve Brother Eye. I hope the Wonder Woman minifig has the golden eagle armor! ETA: Going back and watching the trailer again, there's a very prominent shot of a huge satellite dish around the 1:07 mark that is probably the basis for the set - though it'll definitely have to be scaled down a bit.
  2. After fiddling around a bit with saturation on the photos, I'm reasonably convinced the color is Bright Yellow, not Cool Yellow. Basically, I played with the color levels in two different directions - one to make the car look undeniably Bright Yellow, and one to make it firmly Cool Yellow. When I made it Bright Yellow, everything else about the box art looked more or less "right," but when I took it in a lighter direction, other elements of the picture started to look washed-out. I could certainly be wrong - and kind of hope I am, because I always look forward to cheese slopes in new colors - but that is my take on it. On another note, I have to mention that the graphic designers really seem to be stepping up their game on background art! Both this and the Bookshop have really gorgeous settings.
  3. Seems like the Atom Bricks all come in the same shapes as LEGO ones, so I suppose one could easily enough just translate the designs into LEGO bricks (depending on availability of certain colors - Unity Temple definitely uses a few part/color combos that aren't in LEGO's portfolio). But it does seem like this is the final nail for the Architecture theme being about, y'know, architecture, rather than tourism, if the FLW Foundation is taking their ball bricks elsewhere. (Though the foolishly optimistic side of me wonders if maybe Atom could be so wildly successful that it forces LEGO to reconsider their approach in order to compete.)
  4. I first came out of my dark ages with the arrival of the Architecture theme, where every model is a different scale depending on what suits the source material best, which may be why, as my collection expanded into other themes, I never really cared about whether things are in scale with each other as long as the build is interesting. So I have both 71043 and all the System-scale Hogwarts modules; I see them as different but equally valid interpretations of the same source material.
  5. My personal preference would be for Hogsmeade as a D2C - I feel like the pertinent locations could all be covered in a set around the size of the 2011 Diagon Alley set - but for Diagon Alley to be spread across three or four regular sets that connect à la the Hogwarts modules.
  6. So can anyone pinpoint when being a true fan became defined primarily as having a default setting of raging entitlement, or was it more of a gradual thing
  7. The first series was only planned to have 16 at first anyway; it only went up to 22 when Fantastic Beasts characters were added a bit further along in the process.
  8. Oh cool! I thought that might be the case with that vague "big but not a playset" description. (Well, not that it would be Hedwig specifically, but some kind of brick-built magical creature.)
  9. Creator Expert makes perfect sense since it functions as a catch-all for lots of different categories of advanced models. It wouldn't make sense to release it in the Architecture line because there's nothing of architectural significance about it. I know the theme has devolved into being more about tourist attractions at this point, but at least I can take some solace in the Robie House still holding the record as largest Architecture set. It would be the final nail in the theme's coffin if something as boring and pointless as a sports stadium were to take over that position.
  10. I don't own any previous editions of the minifigure visual histories, so this might be worth picking up, though I personally would have preferred a Vibrant Coral variant - you know, really tie together the history by combining one of the oldest minifigures with the newest color.
  11. I think my preference, beast-wise, would be a Ukrainian Ironbelly scaled similarly to 71043's Hungarian Horntail, so it could fit in with the Diagon Alley GWP. I see what you did there... by which I mean I don't see it...
  12. That little bit of description makes it sound like this could have been pretty great... hopefully Gutiérrez will still be able to explore those themes in something else further down the road. (And maybe share some more details on Billion Brick Race in the meantime?)
  13. "In/Out" isn't really a "codename," it's just a term used internally to describe any "one-and-done" subtheme. Don't read too much into it.
  14. So it just occurred to me that the year-end best-of lists are always focused on themes, sets, and figures, but does anyone have a favorite part introduced this year? As a lover of all things pumpkin spice I really like the new pumpkin found in Hagrid's Hut and The Upside Down, but ultimately I think my vote goes to 49307 Plate 1x1x2/3, Outside Bow. A part I didn't know I needed until I got it, it's especially useful in microscale builds but also as a detailing element for stuff like the roof of the Heartlake City Restaurant.
  15. This has been my working theory as well. Not just because it would give the Astronomy Tower some non-murder play opportunities, but also because the Room of Requirement is entirely interior-focused, so it needs to get shoehorned into something with a coherent exterior if it's to fit with the other modules. If we wanna get real wild with speculation on play features, it could be especially awesome if it had wall segments that could fold out or rotate or something to allow the room to switch between DA Training Room Mode and Room of Hidden Things Mode. (Bonus points for a hidden chamber pot.)
  16. It did pretty decent sales. Obviously the customizable approach is worth revisiting, if the Bride and Groom sets are any indication.
  17. Releasing a new product right before Christmas is actually a spectacularly bad idea, as anyone who has ever worked in retail can attest.
  18. Best Theme: The LEGO Movie 2 Best Set: Pop-Up Party Bus Best Minifigure: Bear Costume Guy Most Anticipated for 2020: Bookshop... plus one other one I can't mention just yet.
  19. I have no doubt there will be further Hogwarts modules, though for Talbott specifically I hope to see him take on some Diagon Alley shops - the broader and brighter color palette would suit his aesthetic well.
  20. With today's reveal of the new modular building, 10270 Bookshop, the description included a little profile of the set's designer, Wes Talbott. This line stood out to me: I sure hope that's a hint of what's to come... Wes has also designed quite a few Elves sets as well as the Pop-Up Book, so he could do some fantastic work with the Harry Potter line.
  21. I love it so much! Great to see a return to the half-and-half approach of the Pet Shop, which was the set that got me started on the modulars. And a li'l pumpkin patch in back!
  22. I'd say Jay tops the list for me as well. I see five definite must-haves in this lineup and a few strong maybes. Plus, LEGO has a great talent for packaging figures I don't want with accessories I do, so even though I have no use for the Superman or Bat-Mite I'd like to try to get ahold of those Daily Planet and Detective Comics tiles.
  23. Looks like I'll be staying up late Friday night then...
  24. Given the background of that picture though, the modular seems more likely.
  25. I'm assuming a new design for a joker playing card.
