DC Superheroes 2019 - Rumours, Speculation & Discussion

Wait, what? Is this you speculating or did someone actually confirm the Wonder Woman 1984 set is 4+? -

I could see a Cyborg mech happening. -

Yes, offering a gift with purchase is definitely tantamount to forcing you to purchase something you don't like, and also is incontrovertible proof that the people who created the thing you don't like agree that it is objectively bad. -

I think that phrase was used for the "Zebra" theme, which will include Marvel, but not the Marvel theme as a whole. -
I'll reiterate what I said in a different thread about the Trolls pods, Ninjago arcade, Disney storybooks, and Friends cubes - think of them as containers, not "pieces" in the broader sense. (Like the round pods that have shown up in multiple themes in the past few years.) They're not necessarily about simplifying the building experience like other tiresome-argument parts; they're there to give sets - or at least key portions of them - greater portability so kids can easily bring them along for long car rides, waiting for a table at a restaurant, stuff like that. The balloon though - yeah, I don't know what's going on there. Maybe Dreamworks nixed an earlier design that used the balloon parts we already have.

The tuning shop looks amazing! Does Tread Octane have that "phoenix" jacket that leaked a few months ago? -

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Because it's the modular for 2020? But again, I highly doubt the rumor. I do think an optometrist would be pretty great though, and would actually pair well with a book shop. So that's another thing for me to get my hopes up about... -

2504 pieces (rumored, but from a fairly reliable source) and $179.99 (from a very reliable source). Neither one 100% confirmed yet though. -

The claim of "second largest" definitely doesn't track with existing reports of the piece count and price, so I'm like 95% certain that Wikipedia edit is an elaborate fake. The description of the "Bob's" sign is also a red flag, if only because the letter B would be indistinguishable from an 8 when using the building style referred to there. -

Not to get toooo deep into speculative territory, but it's starting to seem very likely that the new bulldog might appear in the next modular. Leaked pictures have revealed two different colors, one of which is now confirmed to be in a City set, and so many 2020 sets have been revealed by now that there don't seem to be many other options left for where the other one could show up. And yeah, the potential inclusion of a particular animal probably doesn't have that much bearing on the set as a whole, but it being an English bulldog drives my apophenic brain to think the building could have a distinctly English flair. Yes, I know I'm reaching. -

Yeah, the big container parts aren't so worrisome if you don't even think of them as "parts" but rather focus on the "container" aspect. Portability goes a long way in increasing a toy's appeal. So rather than comparing them to a brick-built equivalent, I'm thinking of them in the same category as pods or suitcases, in which case they're an improvement due to the greater System compatibility. Can't wait to see what New Elementary does with them! -

Crazy how AFOLs insist on remaining so steadfastly ignorant of how licensing works. -
Maybe the light brown one - the coloring isn't quite right for Ripper; he had more white on his body and his collar was black, not blue, but probably only the nerdiest of fans (e.g. me) would notice or care about something like that. ETA: As noted above, though, it's way too early for 2HY leaks, so even if it were to show up in a HP set it would just be a convenient repurposing of a piece initially released in something else.

LEGO Hidden Side 2020
tafkatb replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I quite like the Ghost Fair, but I can see how others are disappointed with it - it kind of undersells a concept with a lot of potential. I feel like a haunted fairground could be the basis for a whole subtheme, or even a D2C if Hidden Side were ever to get to that point. Still very nice for what we get, though, and it could even be worked in with "normal" fairground sets if you think of the spooky elements as intentional theming. -
So in other words, the majority of the non-licensed themes somehow magically don't "count" as themes, just so that you can adhere to the assertion that licensed themes dominate even though that is objectively untrue?

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
tafkatb replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I'm completely out of shelf space at this point and just stockpiling sets to build when I eventually move to a bigger place. I'm torn between wanting it to be a book shop since that would be a guaranteed buy, and wanting it to be something easily skippable like a police station so I can save on space. -

That's not how test marketing works. At all. You absolutely do need to "get random children" - you're not going to get any kind of valuable market data by preselecting your test group based on whether they're already fans of the thing you're testing. Every rational person knows that. -
Which set between late 80s and early 90s do you miss?
tafkatb replied to ks6349's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Although I recall that at the time I was more into Space (Blacktron II especially), the sets I feel most nostalgic about now are probably 1989's Shipwreck Island and 1994's Cabana Beach. For months now I've been telling myself I'll eventually do some "neo-Paradisa" MOCs, and Cabana Beach keeps popping into my head as an inspirational starting point. I probably even still have that multicolored baseplate somewhere in all my childhood LEGO bins at my mom's house... will need to do some digging on my next holiday weekend visit! -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
tafkatb replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
People get all hung up on the computer in Town Hall like it's the lone outlier in an otherwise definitive period setting, but plenty of minifigs throughout the sets are sporting decidedly modern clothing and hairstyles. Modulars have always been a bit of an anachronism stew. Besides, look at the clocks: Pet Shop, Town Hall, Brick Bank, and Assembly Square all have clocks, and they all show different times. (Even two in the same building in Assembly Square's case!) If the modulars can't even be consistent on what time it is, why expect them to stick to the same time period? -
Professor Sinistra and Madame Pince (maybe some of the others, I can't remember) actually did appear very very briefly in one or two films, so technically they might possibly pop up, but they'd constitute some pretty deep cuts. I don't think the actress who played Sinistra was even credited.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Bookstore or library is at the very top of my modular wishlist, so I'm hoping this rumor is true. Having worked in multiple areas of both, I can think of plenty of ways to add lots of detail and variety! I wouldn't be surprised to see a café included as well, but that's the thing: I wouldn't be surprised. It seems too obvious, and I'd want to see a more unconventional pairing. -

I was curious about the white baseplate too, but it's been quite a while now since a modular building featured a rare or unique baseplate color. I'm actually tempted to think this might be an indicator of either an Architecture Studio 2.0, or that the "Zebra" theme is indeed mosaics as some have speculated. Of course, neither option rules out the baseplate also being used for the modular, but since baseplates are more frequently left exposed in the backyard than the ground floor, I'd be looking at options where the ground might be white outside. The only two things that spring to mind are a.) snow, and b.) some kind of sculpture garden, which could potentially pair with any number of civic buildings, an art museum, or even high-end hospitality/housing. -

Plus they said a villain who is not currently on store shelves, which doesn't have to mean they haven't been made yet - could just be someone not made recently. You're overstating the expense of printing compared to molding. Every single character in the Simpsons series had new, intricate head molds, and quite a few had dual-molded arms and/or legs, which were a brand-new thing at the time and require their own set of molds as well. Just because the printing was fairly simple (as befits the source material) doesn't negate that. Hell, Simpsons S1 was the first series I ever collected in its entirety, and obviously I wouldn't have done that if I didn't think the increase was justified, but then again I've never been one for the borderline-fetishistic obsession with leg and arm printing that tends to dominate the discussion of licensed minifigs. -

I dunno if this has been brought up, but I was just looking at the upcoming Frozen II sets, and 41168 Elsa's Jewelry Box Creation has the unprinted transparent blue Nexo shield that was exclusive to the SDCC Asis set. Anyone still planning on piecing one together might appreciate that part coming into somewhat wider circulation.
