I'm honestly kinda surprised there wasn't a DeLorean Time Machine released this year - a lot of new merch was released for BttF's 35th anniversary (no idea why that's considered a momentous occasion, other than Universal trying to keep it relevant after 2015), and I remember seeing an internal document from TLG shortly after the Aston Martin's release discussing possibilities for further film tie-ins for Creator Expert cars, with the DeLorean at the top of the list. As for the Ecto-1 itself, it's an easy pass for me as I'm one of those heretics who prefers the 2016 Ghostbusters over 1984, but it is very well done and looks like a fun build with a lot of interesting techniques.

So the box leak finally confirms the piece count, which AFAIK had been unsubstantiated until now. This makes me want to get the set just to be able to build the "largest set ever." (I missed out on the Taj Mahal in its initial run, and by the time it was rereleased it had been surpassed by something from some silly little spaceman movie in which I have no interest.) But the inevitable problem: eventually something even bigger will come, and I'm not sure the Colosseum holds enough interest for me that I would still want it once it loses the "largest ever" distinction. This will be a tough decision.- 259 replies

There hasn't been much on this front for a while, but the latest update is an accidental byproduct of the Minions delay - a 1x2 tile printed as a peanut packet, originally for 75547 Minion Pilot in Training, is instead making its debut in 21324 123 Sesame Street! Sets that makes your highly emotional?

I'm not a Technic fan so this might seem like an odd choice, but: 42093 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. I worked at a LEGO Store for just over five years and built over a hundred different display sets during my time there, and this was the last one I ever built. It's also the last LEGO build I ever showed to my dad, who was a huge Corvette fan and who passed away a few months later. -
I'd be all for it. Lanky frame, gender-bending fashion choices, made traditionalists angry and uncomfortable... seems like a perfect fit!

Any BrickHeadz submissions are pretty much dead in the water anyway, same as modular buildings, Architecture-style skylines, and anything else that adheres to an already-established theme/format in LEGO's assortment.

I have a couple favorites. As already cited above, the cheese slope - shortly after I first came out of my dark ages, I got 4996 Beach House and remember being fascinated by this piece, which was wholly new to me at the time. (I feel like a lot of people have similar post-dark age experiences, where they come across particular pieces with a "hey, that's new...") I try not to be a completist about my collecting, but I am attempting to gather at least one of every color of this part, just because it's so intriguing to me. Another favorite of mine is the skeleton leg (6266). It's one of those pieces that started with a very specific purpose but quickly found its way into all sorts of other uses and contexts, putting the lie to the back-in-my-day crowd's complaints that "specialized" pieces stifle creativity.

So it's confirmed to exist now, but do we have any further info to back up the piece count rumors? I think that's going to be the deciding factor for me.- 259 replies

Is TLG now definitely phasing out baseplates?

Other uses for LEGO beyond building
tafkatb replied to Bricky Joe's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I have a very... 2020 application for LEGO pieces: using two 2566 parts, held together by a 3L bar through their central holes, I made a clip to hold the ear loops of a face mask behind my neck, which helps pull the mask tighter against my face and also prevents chafing behind my ears. -

May be an instant buy if this is true! Would be nice to see a landmark building reclaim the title of largest piece count.- 259 replies

So, I'm really confused about something - I got an email saying I still needed to accept the Terms and Conditions for Bricklink to keep my account active. So I went to the T&C page, but... there's no button or checkbox or anything to actually accept them. I tried emailing Bricklink customer service but haven't heard back. What am I missing here?

I'll pass on the piano set as a whole, but dang do I want that 30's LEGO logo tile.

Well, if it needs an app to play, at least that will make it easy to cross off my to-buy list. I can pay almost a year's worth of the bill for my flip phone with that kinda scratch.

A hairpiece from Minions could potentially be reused for Bert and/or Ernie.

Admittedly, if LEGO really wanted to go back to the Doctor Who well, they probably would have made BrickHeadz, since that seems to have been the go-to avenue for continuing otherwise dormant licenses, but I don't see any reason it's inherently infeasible. (Not gonna go all LEGODalekbuster523 here, I just see it as a possibility, along with plenty of other past, current, and heretofore unseen licenses.)

I was thinking the same! I will be very impressed with the designers if they can pull off a 13-in-1 design.

So, what are Leaf, IP-2 and Zebra?
tafkatb replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
From an interview with designer Samuel Johnson: -
I was thinking more along the lines of self portrait, since all the other ones so far are faces. As with diamond painting, close-up subjects like portraits and still lifes tend to come across better than landscapes.
-
I'm really excited for these! I'm also very curious about where they'll go with this theme in the future, especially any further music- and art-themed ones. Given the partnership with Universal Music Group they announced a few months ago, there could be a lot of potential for more musicians and/or album covers. As for other (visual) artists, I think Van Gogh would translate to this medium nicely.

Ooh, I really want that Warhol one! My wife has recently gotten really into diamond painting, so these remind me a lot of that. I'm curious about why the Marvel and Star Wars ones are made with plates but the Beatles and Warhol are tiles - is it just a matter of part availability for the necessary colors, or are they assuming the ones with more "adult" subject matter will do better if they're not as obviously LEGO? -
@adwind Look what you did, you little jerk! I mean... congratulations! Very excited for the Home Alone set! Typewriter could be a maybe for me depending on how it's executed. I like Seinfeld well enough, but that one will probably be a pass unless it ends up being a really good parts pack.
