[MOC] Yet another Super Star Destroyer Executor...
Lobot replied to Bob De Quatre's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Looking good Bob How long before we see it in bricks? -
Hi, I used Bricklink to build a 10143 Death Star II from scratch last year & it was great fun! I also tried a Star Destroyer, but gave up after sourcing 50% of the parts as it was becomming too expensive to be viable; there are several really rare parts (engines, magnets, etc) and these were impossible to get hold of in Europe at a reasonable cost. However, you might have more luck. To be honest I doubt that you'll save much from buying a decent used version...it just depends if you want a challenge or not! Also, if the sets have lots of different parts, you'll need to factor in the cost of postage as this really adds up with multiple orders. I've attached a link to the parts list for 10030 (here) and 10019 (here). Cheers, Robin

I'm surprised to say that I'm most impressed by the calendar, it looks like there's a few nice figures which will make it worth buying if I can get it with a small discount. I'm still not decided about the barge though.....

Amazon have 9398 Technic 4 x x Crawler for £112.00, which is 20% (link here) I couldn't resist at that price

Future of SW Contest: Yoda's Legacy (expanded 01/28/13)
Lobot replied to ACPin's topic in Watto's Junkyard
That's beautiful ACPin   This must have taken a lot of time & dedication to build, I'm sure that you'll do very well in the competition. All you need to do now is to build the Yoda statue with proper bricks!! -
The future of SW contest: Expecting high visit on the training grounds
Lobot replied to Empire911's topic in Watto's Junkyard
Hi Empire, it's really easy to resize them if you use MS Paint: i) Right click on the photo file name > Next select 'Open with' and 'Paint' ii) In the 'Home' tab select the 'Resize' option iii) A new window will appear > You then have an option of amending by 'Percentage' or 'Pixels' iv) Adjust the figures as required (the 'maintain aspect ratio' is automatically 'ticked' so if you leave this it will maintain the ratio of the photo), so you should only need to adust one number > Next select 'OK' v) The image will re-size on the screen; if you want to change it select 'Ctrl' + 'Z' which will undo the change vi) Once you're happy with the size save the file > you'll need to upload this again & then re-link them. I hope that this helps. Cheers, Robin -
Nice work Bob, you clearly put a lot of effort into this There's some nice details in it, and I like the red and grey mixture, although it could possibly done with a little more greebling. Have you considered adding a minifigure in one of the photos to give a better idea of the size of it? Good luck in the competition

The TIE bomber is beautiful, well done!! I hope that the design is accepted by Lego, the old version really needs updating!
-
Wow, that's a lot of gears! It's already looking really impressive & I'm looking forward to seeing the final result. Do you have any idea of the number of parts you'll use? Are you going to cover it with plates, or only use technic? Cheers, Robin

I know that this is a bit off-topic, but I think that there's some very interesting points in the recent posts. With any hobby there will always be enthusiasts that seem to be able to buy anything they want, and those on tighter budgets, but I haven't seen anyone being intentionally judgemental of other member's circumstances on this site. For some Lego is a minor hobby, for others it becomes an obsession (personally, I try not to be too obsessed......!). However, I'm in a fortunate position in that I have a decent job, a small mortgage, no kids and an understanding wife It's a question of your situation and priorities, and I think that most people will know instinctively how to balance this. Lego can be a very expensive hobby if you want it to be, especially if you're in 'aftermarket' territory. (10030, 10179 etc) but it can also be a £10 per month if you're on a budget and maybe save up for the odd larger set, or want to buy a small set now and again. With the benefit of hindsight I would have purchased a load of 7667s when they were available for £5-6 each and I would have built a large Imperial Army, but I hadn't regressed into my second childhood at that point so I missed it. Alternatives for me are now either Bricklink or waiting for a new set with lots of Stormtroopers. Alternatively, if I want to build a massive Endor scene, now is a good time to be a fan....

The future of SW contest: Expecting high visit on the training grounds
Lobot replied to Empire911's topic in Watto's Junkyard
There are some really good instructions on EB to do this (link here) all you need is MS Paint. Cheers, Robin -
I prefer the older single-sided versions (8083 & 8084 for example) but I can see why Lego have gone down this new path. If you want to army build there's always Bricklink or, alternaltively, buy the sets and then sell the unwanted figures on Ebay!!

That's beautiful  I've resisted the urge to collect modulars until now, but this is really tempting!

Excellent work, as usual M<O><O<DSWIM  It reminds me of the original Megatron (which shows my age!); the only way you could improve this would be to make it actually trans-formable!!

Future of SW Contest: Yoda's Legacy (expanded 01/28/13)
Lobot replied to ACPin's topic in Watto's Junkyard
This is beautiful ACPin, well up to your usual standard! I love all of the little details in the walls, especially the statues. The only part I'm not sure of is the Yoda Keyring, it just doesn't fit somehow, although I can understand why you used it. Good luck in the competition, although I doubt you'll need it -
Thanks nrg, that's interesting news I'm hopeful that the 'Duel on Geonisis' will be a decent size if it's got a £40 RRP and that the Sail Barge might be better than the preliminary images (on the basis that it's a £100 set.....!)

Future of SW Contest (small category): Resurrection of the Emperor
Lobot replied to Lobot's topic in Watto's Junkyard
I've added some more photos as promised. I'm waiting for a Bricklink order, so it might change a bit before the deadline ends. Thanks, it's from 7754 Home One - (link here) to the Bricklink catalog entry. You need two!- 14 replies

Future of SW Contest (small category): Resurrection of the Emperor
Lobot replied to Lobot's topic in Watto's Junkyard
Thanks for the comments everyone, really appreciated! I'll try and add some other photos tomorrow; we're in the depths of winter in the UK at the moment & the natural light is rubbish!! It's based loosely on the command room on Geonosis (Episode II Attack of the Clones) Thanks, it's my other main hobby and I've still got a lot to learn! I've been hoping to do a lot more this winter but the weather has been truly awful I need to invest a fortune in a specialist (GEM) mount at some point so that I can take longer exposures....something else I need to save up for (apart from Lego!)- 14 replies

This is my entry for the SW Contest (small category) - 16 x 16 studs. I'll take some more photos when I've finished it, and the lights better, but thought that you might like to see a little preview It's illuminated with two sets of Technic LEDs which are all held within the main structure to comply with the competition rules. The saga continues.... Episode VII – The resurrection of the Emperor 20 years after the second Death Star is destroyed a small band of loyal Imperial forces has managed to clone the Emperor from a sample of his blood, and are once again planning to take control of the Galaxy. Deep within the Geonosis catacombs they plot their revenge.... via the construction of a third Death Star!! “Yes, I know that the first two didn’t work out as well as planned, but I’ve got an idea” said the Emperor. He continued “What we’ll do with this one is ensure there aren’t any small exhaust ports on the outside, and we’ll also have a defensive shield for it...and this time we’ll generate the power needed for it within the Death Star!” He chuckled at the thought of his evil genius. Edit: Additional photos added. Apologies for the quality for the quality of the photos....it's rather dark in the UK at the moment!! I'm quite pleased how the rocks turned out, I've never tried building them before & it was really fun! Side view: Reverse side: Full view: The battery box was a bit of an afterthought....I didn't know how else to hide it!! C & C welcome! Cheers, Robin

Thanks, it's a nice set, just a little expensive. It's will be a bargain if it goes on sale at 25% off; the keeper is one of my favourites & I'm surprised how much I like the Rancor. Cheers, Robin

Thanks, it looks really promising (link here) to save anyone having to look for them! That's also a great collection, you must have a serious lego addiction

Hi Empire911, that's looking really impressive! Could you post some more photos; perhaps you could start a new thread? I'm sure that a lot of other members would like to see more details (including me!!). Cheers, Robin

Hi & welcome the Eurobricks! I'd also recommend Bricklink (link here) - I've used it a lot in the last year and everyone I've dealt with has been great. It's also, usually, far cheaper than Lego's 'Pick a brick' (link here) although they can be good for larger plates and, oddly, 2x2 tiles! If you're looking for inspiration, I haven't seen any better than brickplumber's version (link here)  although it could be fairly expensive to replicate!!
-
Hi Doc, thanks for clarifying this, I should be able to hide it without too much difficulty!
-
I don't think that it's been updated for a bit, my reviews of the Lobot Planet set  & Rancor Pit haven't been added yet. I'm sure that the Mods will get around to it when they have time.
