It's good to see that I'm not the only one who's tempted to do this sort of thing! In theory, 10175 would be a good choice, due to the low part count, but I've just had a quick look on Bricklink and the essential 'Trans-Clear Windscreen 10 x 10 x 4 Canopy Octagonal with TIE Advanced Pattern' isn't available anywhere at the moment, so unless you can source one somewhere it's probably a non-starter. 10212 is a beautiful (and very underrated) model and I'd recommend building one, although I found it rather 'challenging' to dis-assemble However, it has 2,500 parts and 220 different types so it might quite difficult to source all of the parts for a reasonable cost, and I doubt that you'd end up with much of a saving. If you want one, I'd suggest trawling Ebay as the price for it is still surprisingly reasonable. The same goes for 10221 as it's still readily available. In addition, it's has already been on sale at 20% off on the Lego website and I've noticed recently that Smyths Toys now stock it, so you might be able to find one with a decent discount if you keep looking! If you're trying to make a decent saving 10143 is the one I'd recommend, especially if you're new to Bricklink. Most of the 3,500 parts are readily available (and cheap!) and there's only 138 types of them!! Cheers, Robin

I prefer the version posted by HJR, although I'm not sure about the clones .... perhaps I'm too much of an OT purist for them!! I'm waiting for Brickplumber to finish his, which will be the one to beat; it's already looking stunning

Great work LegoFjotten, even though it's for the Rebellion

Thanks for the comments everyone, really appreciated Good point Doc, I struggle with building straight walls, let alone curved ones!! It's probably best to put the 'anomaly' down to differences in the different Falcons they used during the OT films; the one I copied had straight walls in the Hyperdrive room, honestly

'Fixing' the hyperdrive Hi, this is my entry for Episode I of SoNE. The main problem with this MOC was a lack of source material that I could use, just Google 'Hyperdrive' to see what I mean Anyway, I based it on a design that I found in my, ever useful, 'Millennium Falcon Modified YT-1300 Corellian Freighter' Haynes Manual. And, for non-UK folk, the wonderful people at Haynes usually write manuals on DIY car repairs.... so it's a bit of a change from their typical books! In my MOC, Lobot (still in Stormtrooper armour), makes some delicate 'adjustments' to the Hyperdrive so that the rebels won't be able to escape the Imperial blockade. I originally intended to make this a lot larger, but from the cross-sections in the manual it's really cramped, so I decided to keep it small. 'Isn't that pretty, it's almost a shame to break it': As usual, I've illuminated this using Technic LEDs. Side view: I'm quite pleased with this, especially the main 'cooling tower'; it took far longer that I'd hoped but I'm a very slow builder. Another side view: This shows the entire MOC. I built it to be modular, so the sections can be split apart. View from above: I used lots of dark bluish-grey grills this time, I thought it might help to break up the light-bluish grey Completing essential repairs on the Hyperdrive: I appreciate that in The Empire Strikes Back, Chewbacca spends most of his time trying to re-build C-3PO, but I just couldn't have a Falcon MOC without Chewie. In this scene Chewie is overseeing the repairs to the Hyperdrive, by a Cloud City technician, or is that vice-versa? C & C welcome. Cheers, Robin

According to Wikipedia: 'A company is a military unit, typically consisting of 80–250 soldiers and usually commanded by a captain or a major. Most companies are formed of three to six platoons although the exact number may vary by country, unit type, and structure. Several companies are grouped to form a battalion or regiment, the latter of which is sometimes formed by several battalions' So it's between: 100,000 divided by 80 (min value) = 1,250 companies, or 100,000 divided by 250 (max value) = 400 companies. It might be helpful if you could take a little more care with your posts in future, as they're not the easiest to understand

I've said it before, but I'm feeling pretty underwhelmed by the new sets, and I don't think that I'm alone in a, well, 'meh....' response. The range appears to be mediocre, at best, unless they've got a gem hidden away such as another UCS Star Destroyer, or similar I just hope that these are really 'prelims', and just possibly that TLG has noted the reaction and needs to do some serious re-designs so the final versions will be in a different league!! If not, 2014 is going to be a inexpensive year for me, and I don't want it to be!

Thanks for the comments everyone, really appreciated! Doc's correct. I use Technic PF LEDs (8870) linked to a 9v battery box (8881). To be honest they aren't that bright individually, but if you use 7-8 pairs it generates quite a nice level...I also use quite low ISO camera settings which help. Obvously they're compatible with Lego, but I've found it's best to mount them via 3738 (or similar). If you want a more 'diffuse' light the coloured (translucent) versions of 2654 work really well. I hope that this helps. Cheers, Robin

Episode I - SoNE free build - Cloud City This is my first attempt at a free build for Episode I, and I'd like it to be scored As most of you know I'm just a little bit obsessed with all things Cloud City. In my opinion it's the best Star Wars environment in all of the OT & PT films, it's just magical, nothing else comes close. Actually Dagobah isn't that bad....... Anyway, all of the scenes below show Lobot (in Stormtrooper armour) searching through the Incinerator Unit and two of the corridors of Cloud City whilst looking for any remaining rebels. All of the scenes have been illuminated with Technic LEDs and I designed them to be 'modular' similar to the classic set 10123. Incineration unit: This is the room where Chewie finds C-3PO in lots of pieces. If you look closely, you'll find part of him left behind, the facility has been totally abandoned by the Ugnaughts who usually work here. The incinerator unit was horrible to photograph, never again! Main corridor: Lobot contines his search of the facility, supported by another Imperial trooper. I based the design on the corridor where Luke & Darth duel, insert music to Pulp Fiction here Another corridor: Lobot encounters a solitary droid who continues to monitor the weather station, oblivious to the choas erupting around it. Over-view: An over-view of the build without all of the LEDs, showing how it links together (well almost!). Oddly I was most happy with my design of the weather monitoring equipment (they had a lot in the City, just take a look at the scenes where Luke is hanging beneath it!) Apologies for the rubblish photo....it was late, I was tired and just wanted to finish it!! C & C welcome

Excellent work Scrat! I love the design of the ruins; the mixture of greys gives it a realistic 'weathered' look with the darker gray showing beneath the lighter exterior. The vegetation is also excellent and really adds to it

It's always difficult to tell from preliminaries, but my first reaction to the majority of the new sets is a underwhelmed 'meh' I can see why they used the AT-AP as the (flagship) of the range, as it doesn't seem to have much competition! Is it me, or does the range look a bit thrown-together at the last minute....? I was hoping that the Death Star BP might include a couple of Stormtroopers, plus the Officer & Death Star Trooper from 9492...but it's not to be Also, since when did the Royal Guards ever have grey lightsabers, I'm really hoping they're 'place-holders'

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here
Lobot replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I purchased this at full RRP, when it was first released and don't regret it. Yes, it's expensive, but all SW Lego seems to be these days! The only bits I don't like are i) the 'bridge' which is simply ridiculous ii) some of the internal coloured parts can still be seen when it's finished and iii) The greebling is a bit repetitive & could do with a few alternative parts. Some reviews have criticised the flat base, but it does have some shape and, after all, the 'original' is approximately 17km long so it's going to look flat! If you can get it at a 20% discount it's a bargain -
Amazon (UK) have 9516 - Jabba's Palace for £70!! (link here) A total bargain at that price
-
Gungan Sub (9499) from Amazon UK for £33.73 which is about 40% off. I couldn't resist at that price, simply as a half-decent parts pack. The only downside is that I now (technically) own a Jar Jar Binks....

SoNE Contest Episode I: Shadows of Nar Eurbrikka
Lobot replied to Brickdoctor's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
There are loads of environments in Cloud City, the possibilities are (almost) endless: Landing platform (Falcon, Slave 1 or Cloud Cars), Main corridors (mainly white, but also dark red), Dining hall, Duelling corridor & platform Central core Exterior top (background scenes of city),Exterior lower part (with the aerials!) Carbonite chamber Connecting ducts Torture room Prison cell Junkyard/waste recycling You could also use all of the utilities (pipes, ducts, mining machinery..... it's a mining facility after all!!) And to all of my fellow Imperials we must win this Episode at all costs; I've got to have one of those Han in Carbonite tags  Crush the rebellion! -
